RSVP

AFter 40 years of buying colognes I have to say that I trust my nose. If I hate it on the paper, I will hate it on, so I usually don't even bother. When I first did a test spray of RSVP, to be honest, I hated it, and I hated it passionately. It was just harsh and rude, although there was something orangey-citrus that was appealing...well, that was just wasted. Awful..... Then, a few days later, out of nowhere, I started to have this Proustian recall of RSVP and I really was intrigued by how it had worked its way into my brain. I made it back to the store and put some on paper. I can't say I liked it, but I didn't hate it anymore either...Though a little stronger and intense than colognes I tend to like, I put some on just so I didn't have to be haunted by it anymore. I wanted to get it overwith. Just rent a room and get it out of your system, know what I mean? Needless to say, as it mellowed a bit and got it on with my chemistry, I absolutely LOVED it. I had to admit that I'd made a big mistake based on that first impression. This is one I adore for the bottle & box design, for its functionality, and mostly for its bold yet evolving scent as the day goes by. One of my favorites that I reach for when I am feeling adventurous -- or when I am not, but need to be feeling that way. Very unique fragrance to have in your palette....

RSVP scent is basically, the scent of a wood panel with citrus and spices added, a a little floral sweetness. But it works. My bottles are the ones that came with the wood box, it seems they change the package, maybe they changed the scent toó. I mention this since this lasts and projects very well on my skin, which is the opposite of many new reviews here I like this one a lot, and ladies like it toó, many compliments from this one. And the best part is, it can be usted for any ocassion, even nights. The best from KC is still Black.....if only that one lasted more, like this one does.

This was the third scent I ever bought back in the day, the OG formulation with the wooden box. This was night/date scent for years. Very spicy/peppery/woody with some subtle sweetness hiding in there. Definitely not mass appealing, but got some good compliments. It doesn't get worn much these days with so many choices, but I do pull it out in the winter a bit.

Ok, I got this a couple of years ago thanks to Jon Bon Jovi!!It is a fabulous fragrance and screams grapefruit but in a manly-way! Lasts throughout most of the day. I spied my junior colleague creeping up behind me and taking a deep breath but I didn't pull her up on it 'cos that would be embarrasing!!I use the shower gel now which is great as well.

Don't know why all the hate for this one. Out of all the colognes I own, It's probably my number 1 compliment getter. It's a very nice unoffensive smell that is good for pretty much all occasions. Added bonus is the fact not many wear this so I am happy for others to hate and continue to snob it because it's better for me :)

I find this to be really nice. When I first tried this all I smelled was woody and spicy notes. But now that i've owned it. The aroma is very warm, sweet, creamy, yet bright. It has a wistful dry down. Along with Reaction, my favorite Kenneth Cole.

This is an interesting fragrance. It’s a gentle, woody, slightly creamy, slightly sweet, but still a masculine smell. It reminds me a bit of a cross between Baldessarini Ambre and Eau des Baux L`Occitane. On first application I got a nice strong sense of spice and fruit, but that very quickly gave way to the cedar and sandalwood. Within about 20 minutes I swear I could already detect the start of the woody, vanilla & musky drydown; but it still stayed predominantly woody. After that I really couldn’t detect too much other than a close, musky, mild, woody skin scent. However, for a seemingly gentle and low key scent, it’s certainly gets a lot of compliments. The first time I wore this to work, the woman I sat next to on the bus in the morning lent over and asked me what I was wearing, saying that I smelt delicious (30 minutes after application). Later that day when I went into the copy room at work before lunch (about 5 hours after application), the boss’s PA also said that my cologne was delicious and wanted to know what I was wearing! Then when I was out buying lunch, the woman behind the counter at Subway asked me what I was wearing. You guessed it; she said that I smelt delicious. I kid you not, this all happened on the one day. I honestly didn’t think that much of it or that it projected that well, but obviously it does have very good sillage and the longevity isn’t too bad either. Considering that this can be found relatively cheaply, I would recommend for anyone who likes easy to wear, sweet/woody masculine fragrances (and definitely for those of you who want to be thought to smell delicious!).

I am going to start off by saying that I have to agree with 'RobbieX's statement but with one exception. I wouldn't go as far as to say it is less pleasant but I think I understand why it was said. One of the Top notes is kind of sharp and annoying and I aggree that I didn't like that, however, over the course of the dry down that scent mellowed out and seems to work more harmoniously with the middle and base notes. I personally feel that RSVP by Kenneth Cole is a very successful scent BECAUSE of the difference between it and Juicy Couture's Dirty English. When you do a side-by-side comparison between the two, you notice that the RSVP utilizes more citrus fruit and flower fragrances than Dirty English which might be why it has that "cheap scent," as stated by 'insolence', and would also explain the 'rough"ness that 'RobbieX' experienced. This review isn't intended as an attack on anyone's experience or opinion. I just thought I would investigate what people were talking about and maybe shed some light on to why some people were feeling this way. All in all, I really enjoy comparing and investigating the different opinions so I thank everyone for providing them. :D

The term RSVP comes from the French expression "répondez s'il vous plaît", meaning "please respond." If RSVP is written on an invitation it means the invited guest must tell the host whether or not they plan to attend the party. To me this name sets the tone/ mood for the scent. Sophistication and class are in order. It’s meant for an older sole, age would be irrelevant. But a state of mind is required. It blends the essence of what a man’s cologne always was meant to smell like, but with a softer modern feel. It’s like wearing an inexpensive suit that fits tailored. Definitely a late fall to early spring scent. It’s projection is certainly not overbearing nor do I think it’s meant to be. Where as some frangances demand they be noticed, this demands nothing. This just simply says I am a man, to women and you are invited,

Saw a 3.4 oz bottle at Burlington on clearance for $35 and bought it after reading some of the comments posted here. So, it smells nice, fruits on top, then the woods, etc. But, the sillage and longevity are really poor. Projects about 30 minutes then straight to skin scent which I have to put my nose right up to my wrists and arms to even smell it. No wafts coming from my neck or any "there it is" moments. Lasts about 4 hours as a skin scent then fades to almost nothing. Will have to spray about 12-15 times. I'm guessing to make this standout for at least the same duration. I'm going to put it away for now and try again in late fall, see if it performs better. This was the black box with the dark bottle. I'm beginning to wonder how truthful some comments posted on this site really are. 🤔

This is definitely a woody floral fragrance. Not saying this smells like the issey miyake, but it is definitely in the same vein as issey miyake disey leau blue. It's a lot smoother and not as piercing. This has a lot of green qualities to it to my nose. Not very youthful, not really a safe blind by unless you are familiar with mossy, semi-muskey, dominant woods, and flowers. If you are into those notes this fragrance smells delightful. It's right there at average performance on me, the brand new gray bottle, five or so hours, one to one and a half hours of pretty decent projection. I have zero complaints and zero regrets buying this and I will be wearing it often

I have to say this was a fluke - not knowing it I got it together with some other samples on ebay for test all of them I was more curious about - and it turned out to be the very best of them all! At first it seems to be nothing special indeed - nicely fresh but gentle AND quite elegant (the latter being an attribute that doesn't fit many male fragrances though)... But what really got me hooked is the drydown - it's incredibly sexy!!! Not sure if I (being a woman) can actually wear it, because it is a man I imagine when I smell this - oh if only I could find him!!! X)

I like it. However, I think its the weakest link in the Kenneth Cole arsenal. By a pretty decent margin, actually. However, with that said, it really is a good fragrance. It could actually really hit the spot if you are a big Patchouli/Vetiver/Cedar fan. It's pretty much woodsy through and through. There is a hint of sweetness right at the top which makes up for the darker, warmer tones for the rest of the scent. It's absolutely a night time/rainy day type of cologne to me. The age range is about 25+.

This stuff is STRONG. I've worn it a few times, and LESS is MORE. I've made the mistake of over-spraying and hating this. Almost sold it until I gave it another chance. Something like a half-spray to the chest and half-sprays to each arm get the job done. At that amount, this stuff smells wonderful. Very good for cold fall and winter days/nights. This is very similar to jaguar pace. However this is shower gel-ish at first and settles with a slight sandlewood undertone. This is a versatile cheapie. If you want something you can wear to work or the gym or just out the shower, this is the way to go. I prefer more complex fragrances that aren't just simple spicy, either way still a decent scent, and deserves a 6/10 for it's versatility.

I found a red bottle of this at Ross. I must say, I'm very impressed. Sleek, sexy yet restrained, this lasts on me about 7 to 9 hours, becoming a skin scent half way thru. The cedar is there, but the sandalwood and orchid do come thru nicely. Not groundbreaking, but for $17.99, definitely worth it. Office friendly and casual. I like this alot.

Good masculine fragrance one can easily sense the transition of notes from top to bottom. Each part has distinct notes. starts with strong spicy notes midnotes are soft/floral and basenotes give a trail of woody/spicy fragrance. Good projection and silage. i actually like the fragrance very much. Overall i give it 7.5 out of 10.

Great office cologne, as stated woods and flowers probably need to apply a little heavier, around 6 sprays and get about 2 hrs of sillage and 6 for skin scent. Definitely woods and flowers. Opens with a pepper and lavender and drys down with the vetiver standing out

I paid 17 euro for a 100ml bottle and that is exactly what its worth. The smell is nice, but there is a certain lack of quality. So i do recommend this one because its cheap. I would not pay more than 20 euro. Overall a 6 out of 10.

I have the old formulation and new formulation. If you can try finding the old forumulAtion, so much better and 2 completely different scents.

Great scent this however is just another one where the performance makes it a one time buy ! Very very weak.

Just bought a bottle at Burlington. It’s the grey bottle in the cardboard box. I’ve seen people saying that this only lasts about 15 min, but It lasts 6 hours on my skin, and is quite strong. Smells slightly more mature than I was hoping, but I still like it.

I tend to like Kenneth Cole scents, and I can appreciate this one. It smells good, it's just not for me. It feels pretty mature and formal/serious.

Flowers and wood. Don't blind buy this. Not a mass appeal fragrance in my opinion, but it's a beautiful scent in it's own right. Here's why I don't like it. Admittedly, with the right body wash, I end up with a Play-Doh smell from this. Also I'm not trying to smell like pungent flowers and wood. That's not my type of scent. But for the right person, this would be a fantastic cologne. I picture someone that lives in a log cabin really enjoying this. I tried Gucci Guilty Absolute after this and I was surprised with the similarities. Absolute is ultra masculine with tons of petrol and leather with some wood. RSVP is like a softer version of that. It's got some of the petrol, more of the wood and the flowers to add complexity to the mix. It's not quite linear, but darn close after the opening. I don't get massive projection or silage from this, but I never stopped smelling it on myself until I took a shower the next day.

This is really truly wonderful. The composition is dominantly woody, but each note adds something and comes together soo harmoniously. Where to begin? The snap of pepper that jolts you to attention and makes you wonder, "Who's that?" The crisp lemon that keeps it fresh and modern. The tingle of the vetiver/patchouli duo vibrating against the heart. The light blanket of aromatic lavendar, soothing, reassuring, and in control. Smells goooood, real men only please, I highly recommend for a calm cool guy who appreciates good cologne. Edit: it's worth noting that the lasting ability is tremendous. But further and further into the drydown, the cologne becomes sweeter and heavier, if you're into that.

I bought a 100 ml bottle of this one in college and, looking back now, I honestly have to ask myself "what was I thinking?" I find this scent to be a muddled mix of wood and spice. It is so confused nobody really knows whats going on. Take a look at the scent pyramid. As of today the second highest rating on this scent is the scent of orchid. Seeing as you can't actually harvest the scent of orchid and that many of them smell different this is marketing talk for "generic floral smell". Combine that with powerful and droning synthetic sandalwood (among other weird wood-like odors) and you have a real one-two knockout. Ouch.

Is there a difference between the black and red bottles? This review is for the black bottle: Very mature. Very formal, but not for those who like to steal the show. This is for those who wish to compliment those around them, at best. (Not for me) I finally remember what this reminds me of... Preferred Stock! But Preferred Stock was actually better than this back when I wore it... in this genre of scents, I prefer Brut Black.

The weakest cologne I have ever owned. The first 15 seconds is amazing. Then it's like my ex wife.... Gone with the wind.

This is a very nice fragrance to my nose. I have the grey bottle in the cardboard box, not the wood box. Much lighter and floral than I expected. I remember smelling this when it was released and it was very woody. That was the wooden box bottle. My bottle is sweet fruit with florals, and wood to hold it together. The wood box is missed, but not needed if it stays this way. Maybe reform gone good? This is masculine, but not super heavy or outdoorsy. I get more florals than expected, along with more citrus.. very very nice. One of my favorite from KC I've ever smelled. It is a bit of everything imo. Fresh, classy, sporty, dress up dress down, dates or casual. Very strange since almost all of my frags are season and situation specific.. besides Aventus and a few here and there. The more it dries down the more the woods come through (like they usually do) but it's still a sweet fresh scent. It also has a bit of an upscale vibe for what I've smelled from Kenneth Cole.. maybe the wood box is meant to be for wine and RSVP.. fits the bill. Not super synthetic, and blended pretty well. I'd say college and up, all year round, day to night, all occasions. Love it. Overall highly impressed by this one. Great juice.

Not sure about this note pyramid. I have a sample from when it was originally released, and what I get upon the drydown is mostly a plum/spice wood scent of moderate sweetness (those used to non-sweet scents might call it very sweet). The lavender at first is a bit strong, but that does weaken a little - a problem for me is that it creates a note clash (I think this would be a lot better without any lavender, at least for me). The big problem I have with it (for anyone who cares about a sense of naturalness) is that is has that circa 1990s mall/designer, creamy/synthetic quality that I find quite unappealing. The strength is at least good but it doesn't work for me as a scent to be worn for hours. Yes, if I smelled it on a piece of paper in a magazine I'd think it smells "nice," but wearing it, I find that it soon becomes irritating. It might work well for others to smell but as a "personal fragrance," there are too many others that are actually very enjoyable for me to think twice on this one. For a somewhat similar idea (in terms of the note pyramids), at similar pricing (or less), I'd suggest Vizzari Homme.

This fragrance reminds me of YSL La Nuit De L'Homme. Really leans in on that Cedar, Lavender, and Vetiver. The touch of pepper, cashmere wood and iris add a bit of depth and masculinity to that powdery musky woody YSL dna. This lacks the polarizing earthiness from the cardamom and caraway seeds in YSL but has that same powdery musky woodsy vibe. Only downside is the lack of projection and longevity, wish it was stronger. Make sure to overspray this and watch the compliments rack in.

I bought this almost by accident once and after coming home was near disappointed. But I didn't want it to go to waste so I started using it. I quickly not only got used to it, but actually started preferring it over some other ones I liked previously. It's one of the longest lasting fragrances I have in my collection and I use it at work mostly because of it. My girlfriend also likes it but for some reason she cant remember what it is and constantly keeps asking me what I have on.

Tried it in the fragrance shop, and it was awful, I put some on my wrist, and though it was bad, then the two women asked for a sniff, they said it's nice, then I gave it 20 seconds, and said to them have another smell, and they agreed, it is terrible, I had to walk home stinking, I said to the woman at the shop, I will probably get a swarm of flies follow me, and she said, not even the flies would like that. It's a no for me.

Really nice fragrance that smells like a blend of guaiac wood, black pepper and chocolate-covered cherries. It's both woody and creamy, but not super sweet. It's distinctive (no one else will be wearing something like this), yet inoffensive and discreet. I imagine a guy in a nice suit wearing this to a night dinner date, like something James Bond would wear. Lasts all day too!

I recntly purchased this at a local ross. many years ago this was my go to club scent. i think its been refomulated. i owed the original edition that came with the wooden box. i purchased it but mainly for nostalgic reasons. it does not stand up well to the current frangrances that i owned.not a bad scent at all. just not very modern. longetivity seems poor also

Very woody forward with spice and florals balancing it out. Very masculine without going barbershop, something I'm not big on. I can see this as attractive and appealing to those who want an appreciate a man to smelling distinctively like a man without going heavy leather/tobacco and not a fashion model or icon (prada, dior, valentino, etc).

Looks more like a red fruity-sweet than floral-sweet I think, but not like Joop's fragrances. There is a woody tone somewhat synthetic and very sharp during the first half an hour or more which could be agressive. I hardly use, but is interesting and youthfull, not particularly teen. Can be a good alternative indeed.

I definitely dont agree with the majority of folks who say that this stuff performs moderately. A couple of sprays of this is pungent on me. Less is more with this bad boy. I like it. Im not crazy about it but i do like it when worn in moderation, if sprayed a bit more than necessary it can make you feel queasy.

A bargain bin goodie. It's definitely one for colder weather. It smells of woodys peppery and lavender. It runs in the middle of the mill for me with, but like I said it's good for cold weather and it's starting to get cold here in CA and I got it for only 15 bucks for 3.4 oz now that's a deal regardless.

No idea why guys are giving this bad reviews.. I get women I don't know stopping me to tell me how good I smell when I wear this. If I wear something else girls that know me notice I'm wearing something different.. No other cologne I wear gets close to as many positive comments.

nice, pleasant smell. not too havy, not too light. can really smell the lavender! i like to wear this in the day. it lasts for a couple of hours, then to really smell it someone needs to be really close to you. i like the red bottle, and the wood box it comes in!

I bought this one for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it... It's a nice, woody, masculine scent. I enjoy hugging him when he's wearing it :) Smells so good. The notes of cedar bring out the best in it. The box it comes in is awesome!

my husband thinks that this doesn't have lasting scent. He likes to spray cologne on and wants it to last thru the day so that other people make comments about it. It smells awesome. will buy it again for him

I've seen some rave reviews from this one and when I tried it I was disappointed. What's so great about this? Another one that does not smell offensive but does nothing to make me want to buy.

I get a ton of compliments on this fragrance. I’m stopped almost every time I wear it. Last about 7 hours on my skin, and it lingers once you leave a room.

Quite a nice spicy aromatic scent. It's like Dirty English but a little rougher and less pleasant. D.E. is MUCH nicer than this one.

It is very elegant, warm fragrance, with nice sweet and herbaceous notes, and warm woods. Not aggressive at all, modern and calm.
