Flower by Kenzo Legere

For this review I am comparing three versions of Flower by Kenzo: The orginal from 2000, the Eau de Toilette you can find listed on Fragrantica as well (though I mean the older version, not the 2021 version) and Légère. Out of the three Légère and the original resemble each other the closest. The EdT is lighter, without incense and in general has less components. For that reason the EdT is the most summery - it is simpler, lighter, the floral side a bit more prominent - albeit still very much recognizable as Flower. The sillage of Légère is comparatively weak, the longevity lacking. I bought it for 18 EUR, though, so I can live with that. The original has been one of my favorite perfumes for a long time now, so I hope it's going to be around for years to come, in all its glorious lasting power and sillage.

I’ve been following this for some time now, it’s just that I didn’t get a chance to buy - it’s a bit rare here. Such a lovely scent! I don’t see how anyone could be bothered by this. Somehow similar to Cacharel Noa, except Flower is more shy with the sillage. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, sometimes I just don’t want to choke on perfume. This is the kind of scent you wear to a family gathering, when your dear aunt or grandma comes and hugs you and they notice you smell nice and clean. 😊 I’m glad I added this to my collection. I’ll wear it when I don’t know what to wear or when I need a boost of joy and optimism, cause this is what it inspires me. Very nice performance in colder weather, even rainy.

Lasts all day on my skin. I sprayed it around 9 am and by 5pm, could atill smells the whiffs as I mov3 around. Leans more of a warm powdery flowery scent with a tiny orange freshness. Thr rose is bareyly there. Migrane friendly. Suitable all year round except very hot summer days. Very well-blended, more of a serious flirty scent rather than fun. I like it very much

After Flower by Kenzo EDP arrived in the market, in the year 2000, Kenzo Parfums discovered what we call the "golden goose". Since then, numerous versions have been released, always bringing the poppy as a source of inspiration. Just to remember, Kenzo tried to represent it as a singular flower, which is alive in the city. In 2015, was launched this version, originally made for sale at the airports and created as a limited edition for the summer of that year. Flower by Kenzo Légère also brings in the box the term in English (Light). Unlike the other summer versions already launched, which sought freshness through citrus and fruity notes, such as lychee, this one remained more faithful to the original fragrance, betting on the use of a synthetic compound and the reorganization and dosage of raw materials in the composition. We have then, the same notes of Bulgarian rose and cassis, plus a touch of cassia on top. Then, once again, Parma violet, opoponax and hawthorn appear in the heart. Here came the novelty: the hedione (synthetic compound of accentuated freshness, which may present floral nuances - similar to jasmine - or citric ones). Ending, we have the same base with notes of white musk, vanilla and incense. Flower by Kenzo Légère/Light is the Eau de Toilette version that so many women have been waiting for. The fragrance has the same DNA, but had the explosive power of before reduced, tamed. That strong floral start from before gained a lighter tone, fruitier and luminous. The cassia is a tree that is part of a species with more than 1700 variations. From one of them, the Chinese-cinnamon is made, for example. It confers an herbal-aromatic tone to the scent. It is different from the cassis, which is born from the gooseberry (of the Ribes species) and has sweet-sour taste and smell. Over time, it is possible to notice the nuances of violet and myrrh and realize that the perfume of 2000 is still there, but it has lost that strong powdery smell of jasmine. And the base also lost some of the personality, showing more of the musk at this time. It's a summer perfume, no doubt. And it responds, perfectly, to the complaints made about the original version. The projection is low and the lasting is only good because of the use of hedione, which works as expected of a synthetic. But for an Eau de Toilette from Kenzo, it behaves more like an Eau de Cologne. The impression I have is that they did not find the middle ground. If it exhaled a little more, I would score ten. It is also a great option for teenagers, who grew up desiring to wear the Kenzo Flower EDP from their mothers.

I like this, but it’s not the first thing I’ll usually grab- I love the florals, but once it’s dried down on my skin I find the musk a bit overpowering. I usually spritz into the air and walk through it. Lasts ages on clothes.
