Canfield Cedar

Huh.. this is a weird one! So I‘m fairly new into the niche world and after smelling a bunch of cheapies, middle class perfumes, luxury and designer stuff and knockoffs, this is certainly something very different. Every single one of the samples I got from Kerosene had some weirdness to it, which I really like. It takes some time to get used to but it‘s fun to play around! This one starts off kind of sharp and stingy, which is not very pleasant to me. It‘s far away from being sweet, I almost smell something bitter, which i never got from a perfume before. After a while it comes down to this very realistic, woody smell. First thing that came to mind: Pencil shavings! It also reminds me of wood that‘s been in the sun for a long time. Like my grandma‘s furniture in summer! It‘s very straight forward, not sweet or even perfume-y smelling, just very woody in a realistic way. It‘s not that strong and while I really disliked it at first, I‘m actually starting to like it. Wow! Once I tried Santal 33 in a store, I got absolutely nothing from it. Zero. Like actual water. If this smells somewhat like it, then.. well that‘s interesting. I don‘t know if I‘d get a bottle of this but I can imagine this to be great for layering, which people seem to do! Not a massive fan but it‘s certainly growing on me.. I hope it stays this way because I have to limit my bottle purchases anyway! The more I don‘t like the better. Oh well..

when i was a child i used to spend summers at my aunt's house, in a very hot and humid climate. my cousin had a hidden cedar closet in her room, and i used to climb in and hide because i thought it was the best smell i'd ever encountered -- the cedar was enhanced dramatically by the hot temperatures. canfield cedar is that cedar closet, albeit without the heat. it's dry and extremely straightforward, which is why i think some people find it uninspiring, but that's what i love about it: there's no pretension; it's not trying to be something it is not. i also adore this as a base for layering other scents when i need or desire an enhanced woodiness or earthiness. totally unisex, i find it rather chic in its refinement. i agree the longevity could be improved -- but i still encourage cedar lovers and earth mothers to check this one out.

Wow, this is a great, spicy sandalwood opening, full of warmth and sparkle. Then it settles into delicious warm woods. Canfield Cedar is easily my favorite cozy-woods spicy-warm scent. It’s not as plush or feminine as, say, Bois des Iles or Trayee, and not as syrupy as Femininite du Bois; it’s just good wood, friendly and warm and richly fragrant.

This was by far my most complimented fragrance this winter, and I have a lot of good ones. If you like sandalwood then you will like this fragrance. End of discussion, I will add like others, when you spray it first its strong and dirty woody but then it cleans up and becomes a fresh smooth woody slight musk fragrance.

This initially seems like a straightforward cedar scent, until the drydown when you realize how nuanced and complex it is. Hint of oakmoss, pepper and musk keep the prominent cedar note grounded. Cedar fans need this one! Looks like it's back on the Kerosene website in limited quantities.

If anyone has a bottle / decant I can buy message me please!! I miss this fragrance so much. Very woody scent as many have said. In the very best way possible, it’s very linear but it smells really good.

Discontinued and I believe Kerosene is completely out of stock by now. It's worth hunting down though. As a cigar smoker, the first time I smelled this it hit me like an air jet through the fog: an unseasoned brand new fine humidor. the Cedar comes off to my nose as a red Spanish cedar. Slightly sweet and very dry but not in a "sawdust" way. It's light and transparent but very present at the same time. I sadly do not get the tobacco note but I do get lots of woods and especially that cedar. It is the most realistic cedar scent I have ever come across and I am so glad to have snatch a bottle up. Scent: 7.5/10 it is beautiful and transparent but slight deduction for the dominance of the dryness, I'm still in love with the scent but super dry doesn't always play well for me so wearing options are limited. Projection: 6/10 it is not a beast mode at all. Intimate and comforting, sitting next to someone they will smell you for sure though. Sillage: 9/10 for the first hour, it leaves a massive but fleeting train in your wake but settles down to a more reserved 4/10 after an hour and a half, eventually stops trailing after the three hour mark for good. Longevity: 6.5/10 this is where I got a bit let down. It might just be my chemistry but I stop getting anything other then a point-blank skin scent after the 4-5 hour mark, and barely anything within an hour or so after that stage. Just something to bear in mind, you will have to reapply if you have a long day planned. Would I buy another bottle?: I would, even though it has limited application for me. Assuming I could even find another bottle anyway :0/ KEROSENE: if you are reading, please consider re-releasing with a much more prominent moist tobacco note and add some honeycomb? As a cigar guy that sweet, damp, earthy, floral, dry cedar mist when you open a well kept, well stocked humidor is like catnip.

If you're looking for a realistic cedar fragrance, this might be one to sample. Unlike many of Kerosene's offerings, Canfield Cedar is relatively linear. I smell cedar -- unmistakably. And that's about it. The other listed notes do not announce themselves on my skin. However... in this particular case, I'm OK with that. Cedar is a hard note from me to pull off (it tends to veer a bit sour or sweaty in many compositions), and it's a pleasure to encounter such a naturally-rendered woody fragrance. It's straightforward and uncomplicated. I feel like I've been spending a few hours in someone's workshop, watching them carefully measure, then saw cedar planks to the proper length; there is an unhurried flow to the moment. I'm witnessing the beginning stages of the project -- before all of the nails and wood glue and varnishes/stains/paints come into play. At this point in the process, it's just a craftsperson with an idea, some cedar wood, and a hand-held saw... the sawdust blooms into the air, and some of it lands on my hair and clothing. This is the scent I carry with me as I leave the workshop. Canfield Cedar is also unusual because of its relative lack of sillage (most Kerosene fragrances leave a more prominent trail than CC does). This one is practically a skin scent on me -- again, as though I were sprinkled with a fine layer of cedar sawdust. It doesn't "read" as a perfume, as such -- I get the impression that, if someone were to notice the scent, they might make the assumption that I'd been around lumber recently, and leave it at that. It's gentle, grounding, and reassuring, in a way. Longevity is not the best, but if I want something soft and simple and cozy that isn't likely to attract attention all day long, I'd consider reaching for this perfume.

I thought I had reviewed this previously but see that I neglected to. I got this in the sample kit of all the Kerosene fragrances, if you're curious about this house, definitely grab the kit. I love this stuff. Growing up my dad had a cedar memory chest, and I was always enamored with the scent of it. I am a huge lover of cedar and sandalwood in fragrances. I will say when I put this on from the dabber, my partner came into the room after and asked me what it was because the entire room smelled of Canfield Cedar. I've been through a fair amount of sandalwood fragrance trials afterward but also come back to this one. I know others have written that this is more masculine, and I suppose you could say that but I find it purely unisex. It's a wood cabin, or dad's cedar chest to me. A memory of simpler times.

Kerosene Canfield Cedar is pretty straightforward in its cedar dominance, generally a token sign that a scent will be pleasant but inspiring. Cedar is a safe, soft note, perhaps the easiest wood to wear and smell in general, whether in a room or or skin or outdoors. In this case, the fragrance includes not only the eponymous lead note but also sandalwood, teak, pepper, and musk. The pepper is palpable as the spicy contributor apart from the cedar, but the sandalwood and musk blend in rather seamlessly. Performance-wise, projection is moderate but longevity is very good. This is, for me, very enjoyable so I'm surprised to see that it's received lackluster grades, but the ceiling is relatively low for cedar-dominant scents, generally very pleasant but quite rarely great. 7 out of 10

Very smooth cedar with sandalwood. Reserved, expensive, understated. An incredibly well blended fragrance that gives the impression of being... well, polished. This would be an excellent signature scent. Appropriate for all occasions and seasons. Clean without soapy, aquatic, citrus, or floral notes. Professional at the office or casual in a t-shirt. Perfectly unisex (but leans more "traditionally" "masculine", just because it isn't sweet at all or floral). This is simple yet sophisticated. If you are looking for a clean classic, CANFIELD CEDAR is timeless. Review of official sample directly from the house of Kerosene. NOTE FOR ME Full bottle worthy but not a need right now. This is like a fresher version of SANTAL CARMIN. No leather and less warm.

I'll be honest... I found this one a bit boring. It wears relatively lightly on me and reminds me of wood shavings. I enjoy the smell of woods, so I enjoy this and find it relaxing, but I don't feel excited to smell this. My skin tends to pull powdery notes pretty strongly, so this gradually fades into a very light powder on me. Pleasant, but not my favorite from the house of Kerosene.

Feels unfinished - like an accord that’s supposed to be an ingredient of something. Smells of old wood. Use as woodifying layer?

I think it's really similar to boccanera but more woodsy and spicy. Really masculine and heavy

Honestly I only smell cedar and musk. Usually when I keep smelling I can pick up other notes but I can't with Canfield Cedar. If the tobacco and the pepper are in this they are faint and blend in with the cedar well. I'm still a novice when it comes to smelling fragrances but this one is almost like smelling a wooden board and adding musk to that experience. I can't like this because it's one-dimensional to me. Maybe I'm a hypocrite though because Follow was one-dimensional as well but I love coffee so much that was a plus for me. So maybe if you want to smell like cedar and almost nothing else, this could be something to look into.

At first it's a daringly bracing, uncompromising, almost-sharp cedar - so ruthlessly no-frills that you could close your eyes and almost smell wet, industrial cardboard rather than anything more enticing. A nice smell, in my wood-loving nostrils at least, but not really adding up to a perfume. But hold on a moment. There are sweeter, rounder, more assertive contours popping up, swelling and rising and gorwing until it's nearly Santal 33 - and then, even better, it sweetens more, goes closer to real sandalwood, and before too long you've got a nichier, more powdery and cinnamon-dusted new edition of Diptyque's Tam Dao, which is never ever a bad idea. Yet the longevity isn't what it should be for the price (4-5h only) and the sillage dies back quickly after reaching maximum loveliness around the 90-120minute mark. Such a great aroma, so bizarrely inconsistent on different metrics. Very seductive proposition for the sandalwood fanatics like me, but it might be a bit of a damp squib for those wanting something really special, opulent or more innovative than this. Like it plenty but its slightly unfinished quality leaves me a little baffled. Would love to get to know it better, though.

This smells exactly like a cabin my family used to stay at in coastal Maine- it's very evocative for me, so I enjoy it on that level. Without taking that association into consideration, though, I don't think this is super impressive. Like all scents from Kerosene, it definitely delivers on strength and performance, but I don't find the scent complex enough to hold my attention. Again, that weird, bitter blood orange that's so common in Kerosene fragrances is present here, and I find that it prevents me from picking up on the other, more subtle notes. This is a fine scent, but not worth purchasing a full bottle imo.

Yup, as stated from other members, this is straight up wood. Do not worry about this being discontinued because everyone and their momma can make their own singular wood scent. Update: I see why this has "tobacco" in it. They were shooting for (and this is pure speculation) for the original versace man which also features tobacco but it feels like their own tobacco accord rather than the authenticicated cigar tobaccos or a pipe tobacco. I just happen to notice this familiar aromatic unification on the drydown to this canfield cedar!
