Fields of Rubus

Let me say this, Kerosene fragrances are nothing if not unique! And that's not a backhanded compliment by any means. Not since I discovered Comme Des Garcons have I encountered a fragrance house which produced such "outside the square" scents. I guess that's the advantage John Pegg enjoys in being a "indie" perfumer, if I may put it that way? As such, he's not burdened with the kind of baggage that many in the industry seem to be, thus freeing himself up to be truly avant garde. Also, being answerable primarily just to himself,rather than a structure of corporate masters, must help. Fields Of Rubis is a wonderfully different scent that primarily explores the use of patchouli with complimentary elements of chocolate, raspberry and tobacco. And when I say patchouli, I mean real, down and dirty, patch lover's patchouli, not the kind of cleaned up, air brushed patchouli that we encounter oh so regularly. The note list is more extensive than what I have just listed, but those four elements really stand out to me. If you're expecting a gourmand chocolate/raspberry, you might be a little disappointed. Those notes are striking in the composition, and very loud in the first ten minutes, but they then dry off a bit and just sit wonderfully in the background for me, with the patchouli and tobacco being the upfront stars. There is a vanilla note that floats in and out, which worried me initially, but it is more on the bitter side thankfully and avoids that horrid sweetness that I usually avoid like the plague and may well have proven to be a deal breaker in even a great perfume like this. Honestly, the patchouli note and the tobacco note here are as good as I have encountered anywhere quite frankly. I also get subtle hints of cedar and sandalwood in the dry down, which is an amazing kicker and sets up this fragrance for an outstanding experience. So far I have four Kerosene scents, all of which are entirely different to one another and each one is a seriously delightful surprise and something no one else has even tried to pull off anywhere else. Another great thing is that Kerosene fragrances are very reasonably priced, so your bank account will like you again! Take note also if you are interested, that Kerosene offer a sample set of all their fragrances for next to nothing. If memory serves me correctly, it's 10 x 2ml samples at around $50, which is just a no brainer in my book! Bravo John Pegg & Kerosene! PS: I forgot to add that unlike the other Kerosene fragrances I've used, which all project well and have tenacious longevity, Fields Of Rubis falls down just a touch in this department. It dries down to a skin scent reasonably quickly and whilst it does last, I do prefer scents that have a bit more projection than this one. It's only a slight drawback and it certainly won't put me off wearing it!

What a beautiful scent, I absolutely love this one. I’d say out of the 18 samples I got, I love 7 and like the rest. So I only got 7 full bottles. I sold this one because it just didn’t last long on me. Half hour does not justify the price imho. It is a beautiful unique scent that I love, but it’s gone all too fast. I don’t know what he did to his scents because they USED TO BE very strong and so worth the money. But this years scents are all weak. The samples I ordered this year are but a ghost of the ones from years ago. I realize every perfume house eventually reformulates their fragrances but this is butchering it. This is 25% of what Fields Of Rubus used to be. It makes me very sad. I would rather he up the price by even $50 and keep it as strong as it used to be. But he chose to butcher it and keep it the same price and for that, I will not be repurchasing any more of Kerosene’s frags when my bottles are finished. I even used one of those perfume primers that work great on other perfumes, it barely did anything for this one. It maybe lasted a half hour longer with the primer. Still unacceptable. He used to be a reviewer, he KNOWS better. He knows the frustration we all have with perfumers reformulating and weakening their perfumes. He has no excuse. What he did was pure greed. I hope he learns his lesson when ppl stop buying his watered down frags. These perfumers never learn til u hit them in the pocketbook. Let’s hit him in the pocketbook. He can not be allowed to get away with this . Pisses me off! Another perfumer sold out.

Nothing I can add to Scentzilla's TERRIFIC review. It has captivated me since I first smelled it and don't take the smell out of the bottle put it on your skin. Raw patchouli, sweet thick, jammy rasberries and though not mentioned I get a little dirty musk. So for me the notes are: Apple+Patchouli+Rasberry+Musk. I don't know much about the notes above so I will only speak from my experience. It opens with this unique apple+patchouli combo (and the first of its kind as I know) then the apple subsides and the rasberry comes in and that combination is so good it is unreal. The Patchouli stops the rasberry from becoming high school girl fruity and overly foody and the Rasberry takes the rough edges off of a dirty patchouli note (as Scentzilla points out this ain't the recent patchouli folks) keeping it from headshop but it does not tiptoe at all. Patchouli fans will love this one. Great job again. This guy is special and takes risks that many perfumers steer clear of. I may dedicate a shelf to the entire line!

I've been smelling the Kerosene samples in my tin blindly and this one is fantastic. I haven't smelled too many feminine fragrances but this one doesn't smell like any I have smelled before. I got a juicy, red fruit first that I struggled to identify. I thought it might be something like apple, watermelon, or fig. I also picked up on the vanilla and woody notes but they're not at the forefront like the fruits are for me. I didn't guess tobacco and had to read the note breakdown to smell it. This fragrance to me smells like walking in an outdoor market with plenty of fruit stands. I could see this fragrance fitting a playful, adventurous woman. John did a great job balancing the vibrancy of the fruits with the smoothness of tobacco and wood. So far I've liked every Kerosene sample I've smelled but this one is in the top two. Can't wait to see about the others.

Intoxicating as a patchouli lover who also enjoys raspberries, plums, black currants and blackberries mixed in with my earthy, wet patchouli. Fields of rubus is a masterful blend of patchouli and raspberry with a hint of ashy smoke, cream and warm gourmand notes. This is a scent that reminds me of raspberry bushes in eastern europe - collecting baskets full of ripe raspberries to later make into a syrup. Sticky, sweet but never cloying. Very creamy, warm, sweet but with a hint of freshness. The earthy patchouli rounds up all the sweetness and adds in sophistication, veering away from hippy territory (for me). This has a very natural quality to it unlike a lot of synthetic fruit fumes. Very long lasting with large sillage. A must try, another instant kerosene love.

First blast of sweet luscious musky ripe raspberries and rich chocolate. I want to eat my arm! There's a brightness there too; looking through the notes, and it must be the apple. It's crisp and light like a palate cleanser and doesn't allow the scent to get too heavy and dark. After a minute, the tobacco and woods come to play, aromatic and brown. Overall, a winning scent! Unisex and I'd say would work for all weather except for a hot summer day but I think the sweet raspberries would beg to differ. 6+ hours later: Sadly, this did not last on my skin past 2 hours. Too bad, because I would have bought this. On the other hand, the price isn't exorbitant either.. hmm...

I really enjoy this fragrance a lot.. The raspberry is there but it is well blended and not cloying or overly sweet. . This is one of my favorites from kerosenes line. When you first spray it, it comes off a little harsh, but GIVE IT A LITTLE TIME. It dries down and everything starts meshing really well together.. The longevity is really great, and the projection is moderate. Def an awesome fragrance.. But I repeat let this dry down a little, don't be to quick to judge it.. This is a common thing with kerosenes fragrances.. they hit you really hard at first and than it mellows out and you can different things out of the fragrance.. His scents are complex

Oh this is a good one! Dark and earthy patchouli playing together with girly and light raspberry - a unique composition indeed. As soon as the heart part arrives I get whiffs of a fantastic tobacco note and what there is not to love? Fields of Rubus has so many faces, it is dark at some times, then switches to being light and crispy with fruits, then goes to the vanilla-tobacco part just to slide back into darkness. It is like a playful kitty with sharp claws. Worth a try and worth a full bottle. Kerosene finally surprised me.

First impression: A friend of mine found a bottle of this discontinued and extremely hard to find 2012 release in London and had it shipped to the states. I think this is the best fragrance I've tried from JP's house. Raspberry, tobacco, plum and patchouli is a fantastic combination and this one sings on my skin. Very complex and feels substantial but not suffocating like some patchouli can be. Really well crafted fragrance that hopefully will be released again. The 3.76 overall rating doesn't do this one justice IMO.

This is an amazingly dirty fruity patchouli monster! I absolutely adore it. It reminds me a lot of Zoologist Bat as the patchouli in this is very earthy, almost damp, and deliciously dirty. I've been savoring the remaining sample I have, as I know this has been discontinued, and I can't find a FB to save my life. MY HUNT BEGINS!!!! Edit- 3/18/26 I ordered 2 bottles of this delicious juice and couldn't be happier!!!

This is the discontinued Kerosene that I felt the need to snatch up before they were all gone. I'm a big lover of patchouli, but not usually a fan of fruitchoulis. This one leans in hard to the earthier/dirtier depths of patchouli and doesn't overdose the sweetness. Smells more natural and crunchy hippie than most fruitchoulis, and that's meant as a compliment. Happy to have added it to the collection.

Earthy, spicy patchouli and woods. I can pick up the fruit notes but as others have said, its not very sweet like most fruity fragrances. Smells like soil and undergrowth plants with some spice mixed in. Reminds me of foraging for wild raspberries. I honestly love it, but keep in mind its not very mass appealing!

This gives me soil notes and I'm not mad at it at all. I actually had been looking for soil notes today and I forgot I had this sample. so well blended. Very soft and cozy! I did a thing and layered with just a dab of TF Neroli Portofino for a wet soil/rain vibe and it’s working very well

Absolutely stunning, a masterpiece, and easily the most underrated scent in the Kerosene line. Dark, earthy raspberry, tobacco, vanilla, and yes: patchouli. This scent is so gorgeous that it will change the mind of any patch hater out there. So glad it's back!

Gorgeous patchouli bomb! I can hear the other notes, but patchouli is by far the most prominent. Dirty, monstrous, very heavy and intense! I love Kerosene fragrances, and this is one of their best releases. So unique, and unusual.

This is a super interesting scent. Like most Kerosene scents I’ve sampled, it opens loud. Dark fruits and earthy notes hug me with intensity and let up a bit after about an hour. This is where this starts to get really interesting. Top note throughout the life is very much raspberry, but not overly juicy and sweet, more subdued, and restrained. Think raspberry compote or a heavy spiced raspberry tart over fresh fruit or syrup. Earthy notes of heavy patchouli and light tobacco with almost a gentle incenses keep the raspberry from being cloying while a dark earthy musk allows the deep fruit notes to dance in the air. Closer to the skin, the patchouli lingers where the raspberry mutes, while sandalwood gives the undying musks an almost vanilla crème brûlée (with extra brûlée) creaminess that sits close to the skin. As the subtle sweetness wears away, the patchouli and musks linger a bit longer and don’t float to far from the skin. Solid 4-6 hours of performance, with the earthy notes hanging around for about an hour or so extra. This may be one of my favorited Kerosene releases, and as expected, it has a unique take on a very pachouli forward fragrance. I also don’t think this is a scent everyone will enjoy, the way the raspberry and pachouli meet, especially at the opening can be found a bit off putting and “dirt” like to some, and the musks and deep earthy notes can be a bit cloying as well. Very much a love or hate scent, but something worth sampling due to its unique nature alone.

Kerosene is a very original and avant garde nose, he has a knack for painting excellent impressionistic portraits of setting with dazzling realism and fantasy in the realm of scent. This one is a glorious send up of the darker, earthier patchouli fragrances of old with a luscious bowl of raspberries sprinkled over vanilla ice cream on top that should conventionally contrast with each other but don't because of Kerosene's attention to detail in placing the plum and soft tobacco between them in the composition to offset the interplay of the two and create a fuller, more textured palette that quickly calms the scent into a beautiful journey to Central Europe and Southern England when the berries ripen in late summer and the smell of dry leaves and fruit trees with soft woods is common. Fields of Rubus is one of the few fragrances I have come across that smells soft and subtle to the wearer's nose but is omnipotent and incredibly strong and can be picked up two rooms down the hallway by a colleague. This is highly original and leans on very organic notes that all surface during its fascinating evolution. Has a wide range and diversity to its composition in the gourmandish, earthy, soft woods and fruity hues. Longevity on my skin is outstanding at 10-14 hours consistently. Best suited for evening wear in late fall, early winter and early spring when the creamy warm vanilla and raspberry can stretch out a little more over the earthy brown toned base of tobacco and patchouli. A fun wear.

The opening of Fields of Rubus evokes in me the childhood memories of a violently pink Panadol syrup for babies (that'd be paracetamol or acetaminophen for you US heathens). It's this sweet and jammy raspberry with just the barest hint of something slightly herbal/medicinal. Again, so hard to describe but I swear it's that syrup which is somehow stored in my olfactory memory in so much detail. After this unique "Madeleine de Panadol" opening we have distinct notes of patchouli and tobacco appearing relatively quickly. The drydown retains quite a bit of the jammy sweetness and some fruitiness, all on a strong dirty patchouli base that's unlike anything I've ever smelled - now, I'm not a super experienced sniffer but I've been carefully sampling a lot of patchouli-forward fragrances and this one is just... so interesting and unique. Performance-wise: ca 3 hours after one hell of a dramatic opening it's faded to a very intimate scent that sits close to the skin. Still, 8 hours after application there are definite leftover notes of patch and sweetness on me.

This is the only patchouli fragrance I have ever liked. I didn't know patchouli could be soft and smooth like this (it's always so loud and moldy when I've encountered it before). This patchouli smells more woody than like mold or pungent herbs. The fruit is also smooth and soft, not screechy or piercing like I often find. I would have NEVER sampled this fragrance based on the note pyramid but I'm so happy to have tried it out of curiosity. Many Kerosene Fragrances open with a slap that turns to a caress but FIELDS OF RUBUS is soft and silky from the start. And WARM, such a cozy surprise! I'm trying this in the dead of winter, in Alaska and it sings. As it settles the sweet white musk is showcased with just a touch of berries. In feel it reminds me of BLACKMAIL, with the berries peeking through, albeit a much lighter scent story. A very unexpected and rare take on these notes.

This would be super yummy on a dude. I considered it for myself, but it's a potent scent, one of the strong notes being cedar, which i love for scented candles, but not so much on my skin, as it comes too close to my pug's natural cedar flea spray (wondercide). If you want a softer, lighter, more feminine version of these notes, try Drew Barrymore's Sultry. It doesn't have cedar, but shares patchouli, plum, and vanilla. Instead of raspberry Sultry has blackberry and cranberry, plus darker notes pepper and musk, adding a touch of weight.

As most have noted,it's very well blended. All notes are detectable at different stages of the fragrance. The opening is a loud and robust jammy berry with plum. As it dries down patchouli is the main note as the jammy vibe becomes lighter and tobacco musk and woods kick in. Point blank you have to at least like patchouli to enjoy this scent. I am not a lover of the note but it's tolerable here. Not my fav from the brand but a nice unisex/masculine leaning patchouli scent that lasts 8 hours with great projection.

Call me crazy, but this is a pirate-y fantasy. The tobacco and incense mix reminds me of glamorized cannon smoke, the fruitiness makes me think of bopping around Caribbean islands, and the boozy dry down is reminiscent of spiced rum. It's leathery, damp, spicy, delicious. I've seen a few people call it chocolatey too which I see too. It's a bit headache inducing on me personally but I use it when I want to feel in touch with my swashbuckling side. Sensational, one of my faves from Kerosene.

I like it. It's raspberry and patch at first, and the drydown is a simple vanilla and patch combo. I personally did not get the complexity perhaps I should have, but the fragrance was very pleasant nonetheless. The patch here is dry and dusty, not musty and wet, not medicinal at all. The raspberry smells very natural, not like Torani syrup nor cough medicine. I would put this in the category of L'Artisan's patchouli with a bit more going on. Nice, and smells natural.

This is such an interesting scent. Tart raspberry accented with smoky, spicy wood and patchouli, and with the dry down comes a softness that makes it all work for me. I normally stay far away from patchouli, but I'd not tried a raspberry/patchouli scent before, and since I love raspberry, especially when accented with darker elements, this is kind of fantastic.

I got this as a sample vial with my order. Very pretty patchouli scent. Fruity and sweet for awhile before settling into a very nice base of what reminds me a bit of Lush's Lord of Misrule, just minus the overpowering sweetness. As of 2/14/2026 it is in stock on the Kerosene website.

Deep, earthy and extremely patchouli forward. At first I got a very damp, rich soil and patchouli smell that was almost petrichor-like, which slowly fades into a more sweet and fruity scent throughout wear. Not my favourite, but it was pretty and I can see people loving this a lot

It's not often I can pick up virtually every note listed in a fragrance, but here I can. Strong, earthy patchouli with a sweet raspberry and plum. The tobacco, vanilla and woods are playing together in the background. A pleasant, dark fruity fragrance. 7/10

I smell oud and I love it. I dont see it listed here in the notes. Im.about 20 minutes in all I smell is a soft amber and oud. People say it's short lived if that so it can't be real oud right?. Maybe the sandalwood is playing tricks on my nose.

This smelled too sweet at first but as soon as i put it on the tabacco unfolded in a silky leathery way that was soooo nice and luxurious For me the rasberries/ jam quality are a little too full throttle but its awesome

This is, quite honestly, what I *wish* Demeter's Dirt (which was a chemical mess on me) would have smelled like. Fields Of Rubus comes across as extremely earthy, to my nose. Yes, there are raspberry bushes nearby, but if you're expecting a sweet, mall-style "fruit-chouli," or the smell of crushed raspberries (or raspberry jam), all I can say is... well... don't. This is *not* that. It's not even close. It reminds me of actual raspberry bushes, growing in a garden. Natural, pure, unsweetened. This smells very much like damp soil... freshly disturbed... with the green leaves and still-ripening fruit of raspberry bushes nearby. There might be an earthworm poking its head up through the ground; one never knows what might happen when toiling in the garden, after all! It conjures images of working with the earth, combing through soil with bare fingers, getting dirt under your fingernails. It's quite "alive." This may appeal to you -- or not... depending on your taste and personal expectations from a fragrance. If you enjoy digging in your garden and appreciate the smells you experience while doing so, this might be perfect for you. It's absolutely beautiful in its own way, but it's not for everyone. I appreciate my sample, but (as much as I love digging in my garden) I'm not sure it's for me... but I'll continue to sample it.

Field of Rubus, to my nose, is not fruity in a bright or juicy way. To me the fruits in here feel dried or stewed, like stewed plums or dried apricots. It reminds me somewhat of the dusty fruitiness in Camel by Zoologist. The dried/stewed fruits are the opening, with a nostalgic dustiness which I can't quite place. I have seen people referencing a berry patch, and I can totally see this scent as walking through a dry forest through berry bushes, with decaying leaves and brush below your feet. As this continues to dry down, the patchouli and tobacco intermingle and create this cozy, calming sweetness. The patchouli that Kerosene uses is more of a dry earthy patchouli, as opposed to something more pungent or "dirty." This does sit rather close to the skin, so sillage is relatively intimate.

Extremely patchouli forward - chocolately, soily, intense. A little juicy raspberry plays in the background, but it's squashed by the patchouli. This is a unique and beautiful scent, but you have to love a dirty, rich patchouli!

I kind of feel like I have no business reviewing this one - I got my sample quite by chance, it's so far from my thing that I never would have picked it out for myself, and on top of that I'm obviously testing it in the wrong circumstances (it's an unseasonable 30°C here today, and Fields of Rubus is if anything a clear fall scent). Also, everybody else seems to love this one, and I loved every other scent from this house I've tried myself, so all in all I feel kind of bad admitting how much I dislike this one; this shouldn't really be considered a review, more just my very personal impression. And that impression is, unfortunately: this smells really bad to me, actually bordering on vile. Patchouli and tobacco are difficult notes for me generally - I can mostly only appreciate them when they're the warm, dry, comfortable kind, and preferably not too dominant. And it's the exact opposite here: these two notes are all I can smell, and they're both at the earthy, damp, mouldy end of the spectrum. Unpleasant to the point it's kind of hard to stomach, honestly. It might have helped to balance things out if I could discern any of the fruity notes, but I can't. After a while it does calm down a lot, and I don't mind it as much then, but that's small comfort after the ordeal of the opening (and that's an exaggerated way of putting it, of course, but only mildly so). I tested this one twice to give it a fair chance, and I don't think I'll ever want to try again. All this might be because my sample has turned, or because the sun really does horrible things to an otherwise nice scent (although the first time I tested it the weather was a lot more normal for April, and I reacted to it just as badly then). More likely it's just that my taste is just too wimpy for Fields of Rubus, though... Recommended for those less faint of heart than myself!

Every time I see a review of people who don‘t like a Kerosene scent, I‘m happy because I know I‘m not the only weird one, I guess. This is my very last scent to review from my sample pack. It makes me kind of sad because trying all those different ones was so much fun.. now I know them all and I want to start all over again! This was great! Honestly, I have never ever smelled these notes before so I have absolutely no idea what they are. Do I smell tobacco and some kind of fruit and flowers, maybe even roses? It‘s hard to say. What I can say is that this is very sweet. Too sweet to me, to be quite honest. It reminds me of fall, of older women wearing avant-Garde types of clothes, very exclusive and expensive clothing and maybe divas and Paris during summer/fall? I know this sounds little odd but that‘s what I get from this. It‘s not good or bad, it‘s actually neutral - just my personal impression. I actually enjoy this because having a scent remind you of certain situations is fun! I like that. Now, this is very far away from stuff I usually wear and/or enjoy. To me the sweetness is just too much and I also think this is more on the feminine side. For some strange reason this also reminds me of medicine, specifically cough syrup, which I actually liked as a kid but don‘t like smelling as an adult. It‘s great to experience this one though! Had a lot of fun with it, although I didn‘t like It at all.

Very heavy opening, resinous and medicinal with already lots of patchouli. The something sweet and fruity starts to peek around the corner. Tobacco and other dark notes are coming out now, with soft sweet fruity notes on top. The scent now clearly splits in two, a lower base layer of heavy and dark notes of sandalwood, tobacco and patchouli and a top layer of red fruit. Then, the scent softens a bit with a little ambroxan and settles down into a tobacco/sandalwood/patchouli with fruity notes on top. Sillage is heavy, so be careful. This one is easy to overspray. Longevity is moderate to long on me. Quite an interesting combination, I am in love with the warm tobacco notes and the patchouli opening, topped off with fruit. I don't like the ambroxan, which doesn't work well on my skin and gets quite overpowering. I don't get any apple or musk. This would smell great with the right skin chemistry, not on me unfortunately.

This smells like patchoulol and raspberry ketone, nothing else. No apple, no tobacco, no plum or vanilla. The top is either not there, or completely overpowered by the base. Just dusty patchoulol and raspberry ketone. Pretty let down, I like the gourmand kerosene fragrances, so I figured this would be a fruity warm winter frag, nope, just dust with a raspberry tinge to it. Edit: ok I take it back, while it is a dusty dirty patchouli fragrance, it has chilled out, and I’ve found that it is nice and warm. The top still gives me a dusty vibe, but the dry down has much more body, a nice warmth of vanilla patchouli and the raspberry gives if sort of a rich chocolate cocoa vibe. Not in the kerosene gourmand category, but pretty nice. Definitely not worth the slander I gave it earlier.

This is my first blind buy fail. I was so excited to try this frag because I find all the listed notes appealing, but whoa, this smells nothing like Fragrantica's main accords. It is not sweet, fruity, or woody. There's the faintest smell of overripe plum in the opening, but I don't get any raspberry or apple, no vanilla either, just damp earth and leather. The tobacco in here is nothing like the warm and rich tobacco I get in Noir 29 (one of my favorite frags); nope, the tobacco in Fields of Rubus is dirty and dank, a bit like burning rubber. This leans very masc to my nose. It's a harsh fragrance with rough edges.

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but on first application, I find that this smells exactly like nail polish remover. Obviously all perfumes are a bit alcoholic at the very beginning before they dry down, but this is strong enough that it's off-putting. After that, the scent becomes a very strong berry flavored jam. It actually reminds me of the filling inside of a strawberry nutrigrain bar, which is... not a gourmet scent. While most gourmand fragrances evoke delicious artisanal baked goods, this smells like a weird off-brand breakfast cereal, so it's definitely not for me.

I don't know what exactly is the problem with this scent, but I find it really off putting, even despite very appealing notes. Yes, I get some kind of vintage berries with it, but at the same time it smells like some very strong and old cologne that your grandparents would wear (yes, unisex). The notes are there, but they are twisted in unexpected ways (I.e. patchouli is weird here but I am not someone who dislikes patchouli overall, quite the contrary) and I find that combination almost nauseating.

Thanx Allinug for the sample! On my skin this is VERY male'ish. I can't call it unisex at all. Just dark with a sharp note, maybe the tobacco. I can't smell any plum, vanilla, Rasberry at all. Shortlived on my skin - about 1 hour. Tack Allinug för provet! På min hud väldigt manlig. Jag kan inte kalla den unisex alls. Bara mörk doft med en lite skarp not, kanske tobaken. Jag kan inte känna någon plommon, vanilj eller hallon alls. Kortlivad på min hud- ca 1 timme.

One of my favorite Kerosene creations. I get a blast of some very earthy notes, soil, mushroom, and dark fruits, but not a bit sweet. When it dries down, I get a soft hint of raspberry jam, only without the sugar and some wood chips. It lasts on me a good 6 to 8 hours and has good projection for the first 2, but someone will be able to smell you 4 hours later if they get close enough. I will be buying a bottle for sure. Again, very different and unique.

This scent is mostly some machinery oil type of smell on me. It also reminds me the way inside of a dirty car engine smells. I don't get any fruity notes and no sweetness at all. Patchouli is non existent in this one... The same with vanilla--not there. I love a few of their other scents, like Unknown Pleasures, which is one of the most wonderful and sweet scents, very wearable and unique at the same time.

Buttery black licorice, spices and earth. Slightly medicinal or herbal. Very strange. No sweetness whatsoever. I don't see this appealing to the masses like Tom Ford perfumes. Maybe someone who is into hippie culture, lives in the mountains, has a cabin and likes the smell of earth and herbs. Unisex. 4 out of 10. For reference, I'm female.

Fields of Rubus is an intoxicating and paranoid scent. It makes me alert and hyper-aware in ways very few fragrances manage to do. The scent story about traipsing through fields of brambles and berries leaving smashed fragrant patchouli in your wake is right on point. Matter of fact: I'm mad at this scent. It has ruined patchouli for me. Side by side with other patchouli heavy scents, I can smell the wide gulf of difference between the startlingly realistic patchouli in this Fields of Rubus VS the often too-highly-treated (and now synthetic by comparison) smelling patchouli's in other perfumes. This isn't as cavity-inducing sweet to me, as others seem to get out of it, and the other notes are harmonious and none stand out too much besides the sandalwood and raspberry to my nose-on my skin. There is no "pickle" scent in this or any other Kerosene I have smelled. If you detect a dill scent then I feel sorry for you because I don't and can't figure out where that is coming from. Beautiful evolution from potent and complex at the opening to more soil and patchouli and woods aboit an hour into it. Scent: 7/10 having tried it a few times and just having gotten into my first bottle. This will likely grow on me and raise itself in rank. Really amazing patchouli bomb and well balanced on the notes not taking center stage. Projection: 6/10 I sprayed this on in my kitchen and someone in my living room 20 feet away asked "what just happened!?" Less then a minute into the first and only spray. It projects very well for the first 15 minutes but I think I go nose blind to it after that and haven't had too many other long-range reactions so I can't tell for sure yet. Sillage: 7/10 this leaves a mean train in it's wake for the first 30 minutes and calms down to about a two foot train from what the person I was with told me they noticed walking behind me-after the second hour. Four hours in and there isn't much left sadly. Longevity: 6/10 I only get 4-6 hours of wearable play out of this before it is too faded and I need to reapply. I have naturally oily skin and all fragrances last about half as long on me as most other people claim so if it lsts that long and projects that well on ME...you would be in beast mode if you are more normally balanced. Would I buy another bottle: hell yes.

PATCH' LUVERS TAKE NOTE ! ... Seriously, Fields of Rubus is an absolute MUST TRY for any lover of Patchouli in all it's glory. That full-blown patch' in all it's 'earthy-chocolate' deliciousness. (And not that wishy-washy scrubbed-clean patch' that seems so popular nowadays, and which in IMO has no real right to be called 'patchouli'.) No, this is patchouli as it should be, with all it's light woodsy facets & all the 'wet-soil' earthy notes still attached. All those nuances that make patchouli the rich captivating note it is. - Trust me, if you luv patchouli you'll luv this 'fume, guaranteed. ~ (Could've easily been called "Patch-Noire" for example, & it would've suited it.) :) This has quickly joined Coromandel as my absolute fave patch-centric frag and easily my fave scent from the Kerosene line so far. Who would have thought that blackcurrant would be such a lovely match for good ol' 'patch' (??) But they really are perfectly suited and beautifully harmonious, bringing out the best from each other. This is, I suppose, a 'fruitchouli'. But don't let that fool you, it's robust, grown-up and not at all 'too-girly' or too fruity or even overtly sweet. Instead quite the opposite, rather dry and earthy and totally 'unisex' in character. Fields of Rubus opens immediately with one of the most delicious patch notes I've smelled in ages. And it's so good that it's fortunate then that it pretty much never leaves, continuing to shine right through the 'fumes development to it's denouement. And the more it progresses the woodier it becomes. Picking up a quality like it has been aged in antique oak casks. With the berry notes adding a richness and light sweetness. These berry notes, of which blackcurrant is to my nose most evident, is not of the juicy freshly picked variety, but rather more 'jammy' like smelling a rich jellied compote. (Altho' still only adding the most subtle hint of sweetness. And the patch always remaining the star attraction.) It's almost like it just adds colour to the patch' turning it into the olfactory equivalent of rich purple-black crushed velvet. - It's this perfect match of blackcurrant & patch that makes Fields of Rubus so delicious and so special.

The past few days it’s been unseasonably cool, so with a limited window of opportunity to wear heavier scents before warmer weather arrives, I decided to spray Fields of Rubus. This is my first time sampling anything from the house of Kerosene, and I didn’t expect much from looking at the fragrantica low rating. But my mind is wowed. From the first spray, I was won over. My picky husband agrees. Part gourmand and a whole lot of patchouli, Fields of Rubus reminds me of winter Holidays— the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, and the weeks in between until Christmas arrives. It’s a warm hug in a bottle. Gorgeous opulent opening. For some reason I picked up a cocoa note. The only logical reasoning is that the patchouli, plum, vanilla and tobacco note are creating that illusion. A very light, realistic raspberry note follows into the drydown. Sandalwood and and musk become more pronounced as time goes by, but patchouli is always present. If you are a patch fan, a must try. If not, walk on by. This is polarizing but I don’t understand why as I happen to love it. I’m in the initial stage of searching for a divine patchouli. Combined with excellent performance, Fields of Rubus is a contender.

Fields of Rubus is one of seemingly many Kerosene offerings that is a bit controversial and divisive, though from the notes breakdown, I was optimistic I'd have a good shot of liking this one. The fruit mix of raspberry and apple is provocative, and mixing in tobacco, woods, and vanilla makes for a harmonious group, leaning toward cold weather usage, but the patchouli factors in a bit too heavily for me to readily enjoy the blend. One has to be able to embrace the patchouli side to embrace the fragrance, but fans of patchouli should fine this a fun, fruity mix. Performance is decent, applicability is unisex, probably year-round, though I'd gravitate toward using it in the cold weather since the tobacco and patchouli factor in heavily. This one would take but a push, a reduction of patchouli, for me to perhaps like it to the point I'd want to try it some more, but I'm already pretty much done with it after one usage. It's just above average, only slightly better than a fragrance I might never want to smell again. 6 out of 10

Opening smells exactly like paint! Yes, it opens really loud, and I suspect the patchouli is mostly what gives it that paint smell. But in a couple of minutes, that fresh paint opening reveals the raspberry, plum, and apple notes that smell so good. It’s too bad they don’t last very long before the woody drydown starts. Thankfully, the cedar note isn’t as strong as the patchouli, which I think blends well with the vanilla, although I'm not crazy about patchouli in general. The opening, after that initial blast of paint, reminds me of a breakfast buffet with plenty of jam, but the drydown is woody and patchouli and reminds me of Home Depot. Overall, I think the fruit, vanilla, and patchouli blend is slightly interesting, and sometimes I like the smell of Home Depot. Yes, it reminds me of lumber, but BRIGHT lumber, if that makes any sense. I would describe this as a "happy" smell... but it still reminds me of paint.

For me.... This smells like something familiar. Can’t quite explain it any other way than that. It’s a patchouli punch; I can recognize the tobacco in the far back, along with the wood notes lingering in the beginning. As it dries down and sets in a bit you get the berries and vanilla and musk. But it’s not juicy berries.... it’s a very raw, first beginning growing stages, kind of a bitter/sour tone. I’m a huge fan of layering frags. So I put a good amount of this on and hit it with a spray of Lush’s Rose Jam. Super jammy and sweet to pair with this jewel of a fragrance. I honestly love it. Personal opinion. I did stop by my local plant store to pick up a plant and the girl said “You smell amazing!” I responded with “Really??” It was nearly 3 hours later and not just me but others were able to smell it. Take that for what it is. This is truly unique and so glad I was able to snag a bottle
