Triptych

Once again Kerosene gives me something new and exciting. I feel like I have to say this in most of my reviews of their work, "I've never experienced a fragrance like this before." Looking at the notes, this is not one I'd normally be interested in trying but when it's from John Pegg, well just hang on and enjoy the ride! TRIPTYCH opens with clean rose and lemon, the whole lemon, blitzed in a blender with the rose petals. Just at the start of this scent story and it's so fun to see where it goes... It becomes more green (rose stems?) and rounded as it settles. Full and bursting now, stronger than when it first hit skin. The woods creep into the background, softly, softly, just supporting the florals. The rose and geranium start moving further forward and I get flashbacks of church ladies. A hint of spice appears, the pepper adds an interesting touch. The detail that goes into these scents it amazing! This is teetering on the edge if being just too floral for my taste but the freshness of lemon and woods keeps it from going too far... TRIPTYCH is fresh, bright, happy, and welcoming. It's a bit unusual but also nostalgic. Perfectly unisex. This would be a great signature scent if you are into this style and want something unique. I have to say it's not for me though. The long dry down, or the end game, reminds me a great deal of helping to clean the church I grew up in. Not a bad memory but not at all but not what I'd like to smell of. The florals, especially the rose, makes me think of all those wonderful women who tirelessly worked helping others (rose always does that to me). The citrus mixed with wood here brings to mind when I would dust the back railing of the wooden pews in the sanctuary, my little rag full of Pledge pressed against the polished boards, running along the long rows just delighted to be helping while also allowed to run in that sacred space. Happy times! Thanks for the trip, John. P.S. The lemon in this fragrance does NOT smell synthetic like furniture polish! The citrus and warm wood combined just reminded me of my happy childhood. Working and playing at the same time in a safe and sunny place... NOTES FOR ME TRIPTYCH took about two hours to develop. Brilliant citrus opening. Just too much rose for my taste in the end. It was great for remembering.

I’m not much for roses or florals but there’s something I can’t stop sniffing with this one. Has a blast of black pepper in the beginning which I enjoy. Dries down with a twist that I can’t put my finger on- almost sour. Reminds me of a gueuze or lambic mixed with grass. I get plenty of depth from this one, maybe even more than some other kerosene fragrances- even if it’s not my favorite. Really interesting.

This is a very floral fragrance. The rose and geranium in this are strong. So if you do not like rose or geranium, stay away from this. But this scent is not screechy or overbearing. The pepper makes it more interesting. I quite like this one. I like the ambergris and sandalwood in this. They make it smoother.

I like this more than i thought i would. Primarily a sour mixture of citrus, rose and geranium. There's a slightly animalic vibe from the ambergris but it's not offensive by any means. As it dries down i get a kind of dry freshly cut wood vibe from the blend of ambergris, pepper and woody notes, like someone cut open a cedar log with a bandsaw and you can smell it in the air. Interesting concept but definitely not something i'd personally wear. Kinda unisex but i think this would smell better on a guy.

Very natural smelling, almost so much so that it smells like essential oils. The rose geranium and lemon morphs into lemon oil in the drydown. Like the stuff you put on wood. It's not bad but I wouldn't buy it. This might be someone's taste but not mine. Scent 5/10 Performance TBD

Starts out strong, with an effervescent blast of an ambergris accord, like something you might get out of Creed, but more synthetic. And quickly degenerates into a cleaning solution lemon and geranium blend that drowns out the subtle rose, black pepper and wood. Drops the ball.

I have just got done cleaning my toilet and scrubbing the bathtub with a cleaning product. Went to go test this eventually and it smells exactly like the cleaning products I used! A very strong disinfectant smell, like Clorox. This can be greatly attributed to the spiky nature of it's top notes, as well as a domination of ingredients commonly found in detergent fragrances... citronellol, limonene, geraniol, etc. When it dries down all it smells like is geranium and lemon, the faintest rose, like rosewater... a very bright natural tone to it. Similar citric bite to ‘Unknown Pleasures’. Geranium stays prominent throughout. While it’s much more wearable as it dries, the smell is still a bit too *sterile* for my liking. Absolutely not for me. 5.5/10

Fresh spicy fragrances are one of my least favorite genres, but this came as a free sample with the purchase of another bottle. This smells completely focused around geranium, with some pepper, cedar, and rose in the background. I don't smell the ambergris at all and the lemon and sandalwood are faint. If you're like me and don't like this genre, don't even consider buying this. If you do like a geranium/pepper combo this is a good option. The sillage and longevity are average.

I was really intrigued by the strangeness of this upon first spray onto a tester. It is spicy, stinging and somewhat chemical in almost a sour way. I get an overwhelming geranium but not in a deep earthy powder floral way but more acrid bug spray citronella vibes. I do have to say it is unlike any other perfumes i own or have sprayed but definitely not something i could wear, i could see this easily being a headache inducer.

I’m so sorry! But this is the most awful scent I’ve ever smelled on my skin. It must be the ambergris and my skin chemistry that’s doesn’t get along. I can distinguish the rose note and lemon, but the ambergris is underneath. Metal and death on my skin. If you like morbid scents, so maybe this is the one for you.

Smells very artificial. I know perfumes and this one is so fake smelling. It’s one of the worst of Kerosene. I can understand why it’s been discontinued. It didn’t sell because it’s terrible. Just horrible smelling perfumes

Way too much pepper John. It’s screams PEPPER ...lol Not for me. But I’m a big Keeosene fan.

My impression is a watery rose-citrus. For being Kerosene – it's surprisingly light, and I understand if fans of the house would think this is too plain, not complex enough. It's light and for me centered around the rose, reminded me for a second of Comme des Garcons' Odeur Chatelet, in terms of the floating, watery freshness of the rose. The citrus plays a secondary role. The pepper is very subtle. I think the combination of the rose with the lemon is not working. On my skin it becomes a little bit sour, which for me is somewhat unpleasant. If not sold, but I'm somewhat intrigued, perhaps it's just my weakness for rose. Reviewed at a later point. This has grown on me. It's still a bit weird, but actually quite nice.

On my skin I got the astringent citronella at first sniff, but at the dry down, I love this. On my skin it seems most dominantly woody, but I get the lemon/ambergris ocean breeze and soft floral as well. I really enjoy it.

First Spray, and I was reminded of the SenSen candy. It was very medicinal to me. As it drys down I get a lot of rose and a lot of crayons. Will need to see what it is like at the end of the day. So far..a no

This is a pretty linear geranium scent. That's it. Smells like the essential oil I got for 5 bucks. The most disappointing from the Kerosene frags I've tried so far.

Guys this is being discontinued as of 9/1/23 - get a bottle if you love it!

all i get is sweet chemical lemon, with rose and geranium. boring as hell.
