Walk The Sea

This is my signature scent :) I never would have imagined a harsh, salty, white floral ambergris to be so serene. These notes were made for each other. This year (2021), Kerosene made limited edition bottles only for this scent and the're still available for purchase. They might be gone in a month or two. I smell everything but the cedar without looking for notes, and the cedar when I am. The opening is very loud for about 10 minutes before shrinking to a much smaller but noticeable sillage. For the next few hours, I smell ambergris complimented by white florals and a bit of salt. I really do smell the sea mixed with a lotion on my skin. It's a surprisingly more soapy than I expected. Hours later this fragrance has become a skin scent. The florals have died down a bit, leaving more of an animalic/salt combination. What remains on your skin is eternal, one spray remained faint on my skin for a day an a half. I would recommend this fragrance for people who have muscles! I can't imagine everyone would like to wear a fragrance with these notes, but I think it would fit much better on people who sweat. I would also recommend this to Ambergris lovers! It's quite a unique composition. I would not recommend this to people that know they prefer mainstream note combinations. This is a very specific scent with harsher notes.... it will turn many away. If you aren't adventurous, definitely purchase a sample of this first.

The heart is layered with marine accords and soft woods, lending it an earthy, natural vibe that feels organic and unforced. There’s a slight mineral quality that reminds you of driftwood and wet rocks underfoot, adding to the authenticity. Unlike typical “marine” scents that can feel overly synthetic or sharp, Walk the Sea maintains a balanced freshness that’s both calming and invigorating. As it dries down, gentle amber and musk notes emerge, creating a smooth, skin-like warmth that lingers subtly without overpowering. This makes it versatile—perfect for casual daytime wear but with enough depth to transition into evening. Longevity is moderate, comfortably lasting 6–7 hours on the skin, and projection starts moderate but settles into an intimate aura. It’s an excellent choice if you enjoy clean, fresh, nature-inspired fragrances with a bit of depth and complexity. If you like Heeley Sel Marin, or Maison Margiela Replica Sailing Day, but want something a little less sweet and more grounded, Walk the Sea is definitely worth exploring.

I ❤️ this stuff! First sampled during summer 2020 and I was fond of it then but, for some reason I didn't go full bottle. Revisiting now (spring 2024) it's different; I used to get a sweet creamy white floral accord that was slightly salty and animalic with hardly any aquatic presence...now, the florals have been toned down, whereas the salt and aquatics have been amped considerably. I don't know if it's just me but, by chance John did reformulate it? If so I would love to own both versions (I could be remembering the fragrance wrong though 🙈). I wore Walk the sea on the back of my hands recently, the next day (post shower) I was out and about and picked up a dry woody slightly sweet fragrance...I couldn't figure out what it was. I smelled the back of my hands and it had to be remnants of walk the sea. It was such a pleasant surprise. This leads me to believe that the cedar that was in the Canfield fragrance has been used here and probably in most other instances where he has chosen a cedar accord. The cedar put me in a pensive, calm mood and I really want to find out if it's the same as Canfield cedar or not...I need to put my suspicions to rest! Back to Walk the sea...GREAT fragrance and I will probably end up putting a huge dent in this through out the spring and summer. PS: My wife thought it smelled like Watermelon and so wanted to wear it. 🤷♂️

walk the sea is all about warmed skin. at first: sunscreen on warm skin, specifically. then: warmed skin in a cedar sauna. its brilliant, and in that shift, it's nuanced. first blast is of the (unspecified and closely guarded) white flowers with sea salt, with a current of ambergris lifting it up. the floral is what alludes to the sunscreen. after that settles--anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes--the white flowers fall to the background and the cedar emerges, the salty-skin effect still fully intact. beautiful. i find walk the sea transforms the most of any kerosene fragrance, and encourage anyone who tries it to it wait to draw their conclusions until that second phase happens. when i first smelled it, i thought it was a pleasant beach scent but not necessarily my bag -- but the moment the sauna emerged, i fell in love and got a bottle. for kerosene collectors who really want to speed up or enhance the sauna effect: layer on top of canfield cedar !!

I think this is fantastic! It is impossible to create a fragrance that suits everybody, we all should know that by now. I can understand why this is not everybody's cup of tea. There is definitely a sweetness that is not typically in other oceanic fragrances. The sweetness in particular is why I enjoy this fragrance so much. The subtle art of fragrance making is similar to trying to capture the feeling of reminiscence. Walk the Sea is trying to evoke just that: the memory of walking along the shore next to the ocean. The flowers surrounding the sea were obviously huge for John. Walk the Sea is straightforward and cuts to the chase. It doesn't care if it's not your favorite. It is beautiful in a very natural and carefree sort of way. It's sexy like having sex in the middle of the day and then going right back to work afterword.

I've spent my whole life in and around the ocean, and this is exactly what I've been searching for as a signature fragrance over the last year. I was super disappointed to find out that Oud Minerale was discontinued last summer, but it turns out, I like this much more. Some good, salty, oceanic funk, lifted out of low tide-stank territory with the white florals. As others have noted, it could be perceived as having a challenging aspect to it, though not nearly as much as something like Squid, and I don't think anyone would find it off putting. It's quite different from your usual aquatic, which is a very good thing to me. Love.

This is sweet flowers growing by the seaside. I have been sick to death of these salty marine fragrances but I got this one from a Kerosene sampler pack, and it is hands down my favorite one. Flower and sweet dominate, but they use the salt and ambergris as the supporting cast, making it a 'seaside' scent by happenstance. It just elevates what's there. This also smells like springtime flowers- not just the flower but the stems and greens too- but lightly. Like, dang. I'm entranced. Winner winner- this is grand. And since its Kerosene, the sillage and projection are monster without being alcoholic. *chefs kiss*

This smells like the Pacific Ocean in a bottle. It's the wind on the cliffs and the wet rocks and the salty water all in one. After a bit of time, it melts into something spicier that on me almost smells like anise (?), which I think may be the ambergris note. My skin usually eats fragrances, in that they never stay on for very long, but all of Kerosene's scents have stayed on strong for my entire day. Not a blind buy, but for me its FBW. Edit: My mom smelled it today and said it reminded her of cake. Really not sure how she got that, but it could be helpful to someone, I suppose.

Oh this is so nice! It's not really aquatic for me. There's a lot of white, a bit green, natural, wild flowers here. The back is a bit salty and ambery warm. The longevity is not weak, about 12 hours on my skin, but the projection and sillage are moderate going intimate/skin scent in 5. I don't understand why so many people hate on it - it is very nice and natural smelling. It's not even very salty or animalic to be honest. Mind you, this might be considered a bit simple or some might be unhappy with the performance. Unisex, anytime anywhere even office safe, but best for summer.

I love this fragrance. It makes me want to take to seaside cliffs and read Moby Dick. This fragrance combines my love for the aquatic (Beach by Bobbi Brown was my first summer signature) with my love for the animalic. I’m so taken with the ambergris note, particularly. Most fragrances with ambergris notes, in my experience, disguise the note until the dry down. This one does no such thing, it gives you the delicious ambergris right up front, and I love it for that. I only got a sample of this, but I’ll definitely be out for a full bottle once summer rolls around.

Contemplated this all winter after getting a sample in the fall and finally went for it. This is salt air in the medium of windswept white florals and musk. On my skin, the dry down is slightly sweet and then peppery. I don't detect the cedar note. Walk the sea is the most atmospheric fragrance I've encountered in a long time. It's very balanced and not too briny on me. I live in a big city and previously wondered what business I had smelling like the ocean, but now I will be wearing this all summer and beyond.

I don’t think I could really add much comparative to what’s already been said. To my nose this is the ocean. This isn’t a day at the beach, a mix of sunscreen / tanning lotion mixed with sea notes. This is the ocean, period. I had been searching for such a scent and shiver me timbers, at long last, here it is. Perfecto, at least for fulfilling precisely what I’d been wanting in my rotation... and just in time for the last throes of summer in the northeastern US. Bravo Mr Pegg, bravo!

Extremely well-done. An evocative, true ocean/beach/marine scent without the cliches of Hollister-type marine colognes. It smells like you're on the shores and can smell driftwood and some animalic oceans smells. Could be a bit too animal for some, but I think it sits just below being too animalic, and close enough to being the smell of skin of someone who has been on the coast all day. It's amazing how much is accomplished using cedar.

For me, this fragrance reminds me of lazing about on the beach. Imagine yourself putting on some sunscreen. Then you take a quick dip in the ocean, before lying under the sun and just lying there thinking about life. It's a comforting, intimate scent that evokes memories. However, I do wish it projects more, because it's quite hard to smell unless you get very close. Don't get much of the "salty" notes that people mention though.

This smells like the perfumer’s love letter to the ocean. You can smell the rocks, the salt, the marine life, the sand. This is the sea at night. I love it. If you genuinely love the ocean in all its glory without all those solar and suntan lotion accords then this one is for you. This is the sea in a bottle.

I’ll keep it brief: Walk the sea is an imminently more wearable version of Tom Ford’s Oud Minerale and in many ways is superior. It projects at rest very well on my skin and does so in an authentic transparent way that feels like it could be the environment, and not a perfume. Gorgeous stuff, bottle worthy.

It smells like a plesant sea breeze like you’re standing right next to the ocean. Nice marine aquatic ambergris scent with some white florarls. The sea salt gives it that kind of citrus smell without the actual fruit. 9/10.

Whenever I wear it, I feel like a heroine of a gothic novel during the Victorian era, strolling on the beach during a gloomy day, dressed in a dark dress with cold sea mist hitting my cheeks. Gorgeous gorgeous scent.

A cold day at the beach. Smells very similar to Ellis Brooklyn Salt but less sweet, more white floral, and better longevity. A very versatile scent that can be layered with just about anything.
