Black Oud

I purchased a sample of this and it was immediately very manly. I used the small sample sparingly and it gave a earthy, very ashy smell. It took a while to grow on me. It is very niche smelling, some folk probably won't like it but I certainly do. It smells like it is very expensive too. This smells really dangerous, initially a bit like motor oil. It's the kind of smell you would need to wear when you are in trouble and are having to meet HR. It's a subtle warning to your employer, do as I am saying or you will be taken to court and will have your backside handed to you. I ended up purchasing the 100ml bottle and this bottle seems to smell slightly different to me, I don't like it as much as it seems less mysterious, natural and strong. I suspect that it will need some time to stew in its own sauce and I expect it to shine in days or weeks as that's what it took for the 5ml sample to seduce me. I think this needs many sprays to get maximum sillage, a good six or eight with two of them behind each ear and a couple on the chest will get you there. Edit: so I have used this a fair few weeks later and I have to say, as much as I love the smell, it has such poor sillage that I can't really recommend it. Maybe it's a problem with the bottle I purchased but this just dies down to a skin scent after about an hour. Second edit: I let this macerate on its side for about a year and a half. The scent, on a winters day seems slightly less complex (maybe just the climate) but the sillage and longevity as improved significantly - highly recommend buyers do this. I will likely buy another bottle once this one goes and let it macerate on its side for months or about a year - completely worth it and a complete bargain. I have changed my rating accordingly. I have another Khalis (Oud Syeufi) that has also macerated superbly! I think that once you let them blend, Khalis provide some of the best bang for your buck in all of perfumery.

I recently purchased a 100 ml bottle of this fragrance from a seller in Lemon Grove California, The Oud Store. (Excellent Source) The bottle is gorgeous with the gold accents on black. Beautiful bottle...really very majestic & appealing. The cap on my bottle is different than the one displayed. Mines cooler ! The atomizer on the other hand, rated below average in its performance. It could just be defective, but it still worked pretty well...just didn’t pull very generously when pulling the trigger. Absolutely not a deal breaker. Black Oud by Khalis.......what an excellent fragrance!! ** The notes listed are NOT ACCURATE as listed by Fragrantica, but I am glad they added this fragrance after I made the request. Its soooo much more then just Oud. It is a dark, brooding yet smooth incense. The Oud is quality, and is reminiscent of the actual Oud chips i burn in my burner. Leaning masculine...if that matters to you. Its a slightly smokey oud of the somewhat medicinal variety & very authentic. It wears beautifully and goes through a wonderful progression of notes while on your skin. The opening is smokey incense oud, rich amber & spice ...with a smoldering coumarin sweetness reminiscent of burnt sugared vanilla. But the sweetness is mild. The drydown is an absolutely gorgeous but delicate symphony of dark purple flowers, like violet or perhaps blue lotus.....intermingled with the incense, rich amber, & smokey sugared Oud. Longevity & sillage are average to moderate..which is great sometimes , because re-applying it is something you will enjoy doing over & over again! Has quickly become one of my favorites. Its sexy, rugged & majestic. Highly Recommend The Verdict : EXCELLENCE!!

I'm glad it's finally addes to Fragrantica database. What a beast of a scent. One of a kind, although it reminds me of Black by CdG. It's heavier I believe. Oud? This is ashes, burnt fireplace, with smoky leftovers from barbecue ;) Purchased it for 25 bucks here in Poland. Smells like 200 bucks niche scent, performs very well. I think about stocking up with backup bottles, cuz like many others hidden gems it could be gone soon.

Smokey, Ashy yet sweet. Incense, Oud, Birch Tar, licorice And Vetiver and as others have stated smells very unique and niche in quality. I find it a great change of pace fragrance from the normal sweet ambers and Blue woody fragrances. This marches to it on drum beat with a very rental vibe . where would you wear this. Date, work or wherever. Wear it for yourself if you like it if its your style.

My body chemistry amplifies all the warm, sweet tones of this perfume. They are magical to me - it's like a walk by summer night through a dark forest, smoky, resinous, with fresh damp moss and sweet incense ash in the background. Love from the first sniff, they will stay with me for a very long time.

A dark, woody , smoky and a bit of animalic accented fragrance with a very noticeable synthetic blend. Starts of with the opening, a strong and pungent ashy synthetic coffee bean like scent, blended with a little bit of spiciness. blended to a black tar and liquorice. the combination of this notes make it a little bit animalic. this opening to mid dry down accentuated by woody oud in the background. Then, the spiciness fades to the background. Replaced by dry woody scent (oud + maybe iso e), smoothens the dark, ashy notes that are present in top and middle notes. At this time, its already becoming a skin scent. 2 - 3 hours of usage. The scent is not where you would let down because its pretty unique in itself or relative to your collection. But the longevity and the sillage is a bit disappointing for me. it gives me approximately 4 - 6 hours on my skin with minimal to moderate sillage. 8 hours on cotton, leaving a dried campfire smell. the longevity and sillage is relatively disappointing after a bombastic and pungent opening. Khalis Black Oud might be a scrubber to some. but its relatively easy to learn to like it. its a very synthetic blend but for the price, you cant really complaint.

Khalis Black Oud is a dang good value proposition for lovers of smoky, birchy, resinous, and dark fragrances. Fragrantica has the notes wrong (shocker) so here are the actual ones: Top: black pepper, incense, coffee Heart: liquorice, leather, birch Base: oud, vetiver, cedarwood, olibanum Now let's look at the notes in CDG Black, for fun: Black pepper from Madagascar, incense of Somalia, leather, liquorice, birch tar, pepperwood, cedarwood, vetiver. As you can see they are basically the same, with Khalis adding coffee, oud, and olibanum, and subtracting pepperwood. That said, they are pretty similar but Khalis has a more ashen, burnt feel, with less licorice. The woody notes are turned down and the blend feels smoother and less sharp and spiky due to less pepper and licorice. I'm missing the glorious sauna cedar drydown from CDG Black. I don't pick up coffee, but I could see where that impression comes from, hinting at dark roasted beans with some sweetness. Black Oud does stay a bit sweeter throughout, whereas CDG Black opens sweeter but loses some sugar by the end. Side by side, the Black Oud has less robust woodiness, and is replaced with a hint of greenish rooty, slightly salty vetiver. I actually don't get any strong or noticeable oud standing out, it's part of the blend to my nose. It's mostly smoky, ashen, sweetened, birch. If you absolutely love Comme Des Garcon Black, you'll probably also dig this. However, it will not scratch the itch or serve as a substitution for the original, and has some noticeable differences. The Khalis is far more linear, and contains less nuance, and feels a bit smoother and richer. The projection is medium-subtle and longevity is solid, and I think CDG Black wins out here again as well. I'm happy to have both in my collection, but If you are looking for 1:1 clone, just save a little for the original. If you are a dark, birch, incense fanatic (such as myself) or really like the CDG Black profile but just want something in the ballpark for less, it's a no brainer.

Smells a little bit like a barbecue, I like it but there is a slight element that might remind you of bbq sauce. Mate of mine didn’t agree with me though, thought it smelled like a bonfire. Overall nice, though not strong sillage, lasts long but doesn’t project much. Edit: I actually really like this, weirdly enough it gives me a mental image of a burning building or skyscraper on a Saturday night. Weird I know but all the same that’s what always comes to mind. Very nice for the price, but it’s literally just the smell of fire smoke and ash.

I am not about the romanticizing a fragrance. but to me, it smells fresh, not sunny fresh but dark damp wet fresh. like near a waterfall in a heavy vegetaded area. love the scent, can wear this all year day and night, its just different. although performance leaves something to desire.

This is really different... I agree with the reviews, so what I do is I make up a little travel spray and touch up with this one every few hours. Yes, I know... But it's worth it to me to have all the notes throughout the day. 👍😊 MJ
