Wicked Maria

Oh my god! This is so good! Ah! It has that fall/winter vibe that would do really well around christmas time if you celebrate it. The most dominant notes I get are patchouli, horchata, tobacco, almonds, and cinnamon. Cinnamon isn't listed but it's probably the horchata that is giving that vibe. It's milky, creamy, and spicy. I smell that true patchouli that's hidden throughout the fragrance and I love it. I would only wear this for winter only because it's so thick and creamy that I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing it in spring or summer. I would be too nostalgic of winter. The projection is soft and longevity is moderate but that's good because you wouldn't want that. You want people to smell you but you don't want it to get cloying and this would be if amped up. It's so dense and thick! I love it. Some have said it's like A*Men by Mugler and I would say it isn't like it at all. Yes that milky quality is there but this is horchata not straight cows milk. This is different enough to sample and then buy. If it was like A*Men then it would be a future flanker called Pure Christmas or Pure Almond. This isn't quite what I expected based on the description, which is not necessarily a bad thing -- I'm just getting used to this fragrance so it's a journey. One other voter described the sillage as heavy, which I find very surprising, because of all of the King's Palace Perfumery scents I've tried thus far, Wicked Maria has the gentlest sillage. Opening notes are quite heavy on the patchouli, and I'm not getting much if any of the hemp blossom, almond, or vanilla. A pleasant surprise is the not-too-masculine hint of tobacco that comes through occasionally, which separates Wicked Maria from the more dignified Tian Tan (also from King's Palace). I'm not a big fan of fragrances that smell like food, but nevertheless, I'd gotten myself completely geeked about the combination of cacao, horchata, almond, and vanilla, and I didn't get any of it in the first hour or so. On drydown, these notes are beginning to appear, telling me that this fragrance is a bit more complex than meets the eye... or the nose, for that matter. At times, my nose fools me into thinking I'm getting civet, but that may well be the almond. (Luckily for the civet population, most perfumers now use synthetic civet, but it's not listed at all for Wicked Maria.)
