FIFTY SHADES OF VETIVER This fragrance uses iris root essential oil instead of regular iris essential oil. Iris root is simply the root of the iris plant. It has the typical iris scent, lipstick-like, but it is much rounder and without an excessive amount of the characteristic powderiness. In short, it's a different note, but quite floral (violet/iris type) and sweet. In the opening, the dominant dark iris is accentuated by bergamot and pepper, which emphasise the floral proximity of the dark iris. The lemon note is fleeting and the fragrance evolves into a more oily and earthy note. The resinous sweetness of cardamom and a musky note emerge. The pepper and frankincense notes are not noticeable individually. As the scent dries, it becomes more woody, resinous and darker, with no discernible transition. Everything revolves around the interplay between the woody amber and the dry, woody vetiver, which remains throughout the drying process. At the beginning of its evolution, the similarities with Dior Homme (2005) and Dior Homme Intense (2011) are obvious. But its freshness is not enough to maintain this link, and the fragrance is characterised by an oily, woody resin, underlined by accords of iris and cardamom (before) and amber and vetiver (after). It's not a typical vetiver scent, but it is, frankly, pleasant and stands out simply because it's elegant and sexy. I'm not going to say whether it's better or worse than its Dior counterparts. It's a little darker and has a hint of vetiver. It really depends on your taste. This fragrance preference for colder environments is well known. The openly unisex opening becomes more masculine towards the end. The longevity is remarkable, but the sillage is below average, almost embarrassing, which doesn't detract from its elegant sexiness. It shares the typical scent of the iris, lipstick type, but it's much more round and without an exagerated amount of the characteristic powdriness. In short, it turns out to be a different note, but quite floral (violet/iris type) and with a sweet smell. In the opening, the dark and dominant orris is cheered by bergamot and pepper, accentuating its dark iris floral proximity. The citric touch is fleeting and the aroma evolves into a more oily and earthy touch. The resinous sweetness of cardamom, as well a musk note, becomes apparent. The pepper and the incense notes are not perceptible individually. Without seeing a notorious transition, the fragrance becomes more woody, resinous and darker while it dries. It is all about the game between the woody amber and the dry woody vetiver that is maintained throughout the drydown. At the evolution beginning, the similarities with Dior Homme EDT 2005 and Dior Homme Intense 2011 are evident. But its freshness is not enough to maintain this bond, and the perfume stands out like an oily woody resinous by chords of orris and cardamom (before) and amber and vetiver (after). It is not the typical vetiver scent but it is frankly pleasant, drawing attention by its own merit and sheer elegance and sexyness. I am not going to state an opinion about being better or worse than its Dior counterparts. It's a bit darker and with a vetiver twist. It really depends on your taste. His penchant for colder environments is notorious. The overtly unisex beginning becomes more masculine in the end. OK,I have to change my mark from like to love Tried it once more and I simply adore it,it's strange because while I always like dior homme line I never loved them.I usually love sweeter and more spicy colognes,something with lavender,tonka,tobacco,chocolate or coffee and spices.but this dark,gentle woody,powdery scent is very elegant.dry in a good way,bitterish in a good way.it's dark and at the same time soft.very comforting and impressive.it has personality,ofcourse different from my usual preferences which remind that sexy bronze badboy with six packs,tattoos and good sense of humor;korloff black reminds a gentleman,quiet but with impressive charm,nobel,trustable and soothing It's soft and sillage is moderate but longevity is good and how much can you e expect from a less than 40$ Cologne? It's categorized as unisex in fragrantica but I can read on it's box a big "for men".never mind since I could never wear it myself I still can't pick up any cardamom.to my unexperienced about men fragrances feminine nose,it's all about vetiver and dry,subtle woody notes,powdery iris and a touch of incense but it was just my second test and I'm gonna explore it grad ❤❤❤❤❤ خیلی خیلی دوسش دارم و خیلی عجیبه برام چون خیلی شبیه سری دیور هوم هست و سری دیور هوم رو هیچ موقع تا این حد عاشقانه دوس نداشتم یه عطر تیره ولی سافت و بسیار جنتلمنی.. شیک و آروم و قابل اعتماد..خشک و پودری و تلخ اما دلپذیر برای من ترکیبی از وتیور و چوبهای خشک و زنبق پودری و کمی اینسنس هست.پخشش نهایتا متوسطه اما موندگاری خوبی داره و درمجموع واسه یه عطر زیر دویست تومن عالیه..هرچند تو فرگرنتیکا نوشتن یونی هست اما رو جعبه عطر نوشته شده برای آقایونه

I agree with other reviews,it really reminds me dior homme line.although there's no cacao note here,as usual vetiver and other woody notes trick my nose and appear as something cacao-like to me I find it unisex,however more leaning towards masculinity because of it's lack of sweetness It can make a very good fall,winter/night scent according to it's reasonable price tag because this iris,dark woods combo smells very classy in a formal,dressed up way Longevity and sillage weren't as bad as I expected ❤❤❤❤

Iris and Orris are the same. Iris flower oil doesnt exist, it’s iris root (orris) that is used to give an impression of iris, slightly « freshened » to give the impression of flower. When it’s not freshened and appears true to its smell (buttery), it’s referred as an orris note. Here, the main player is definitely the orris root, with 2 stages. In the very early opening, the orris is beautifully freshened by the bergamot, thus expressing more an iris flower note. Shortly after, it morphs into its typical smell - buttery iris with a hint of earthiness - with a strong support of a cardamom, amber (aka overly synthetic vanilla+benzoin), and a milky note (aka musk). It will stay linear until the end. Pepper and incense are not noticeable, and only present to mold the blend. Only the most trained noses may spot a (very) subtle vetiver in the late drydown. I confirm what has already been said before: the first few minutes are nearly identical to Dior Homme EDT. But it quickly looses its freshness to transform into a buttery orris supported by a cardamom pastry. Aside of the misleading name (should have been called Black Orris), overall a good blend, even if I wish the transition top to base notes was smoother, and that the base would keep some of the opening freshness. Also, the projection is bad since it becomes a skin scent after 10 minutes. That said, it may be advisable in this case since the strong buttery face of the orris may be too much for some. Unisex, leaning feminine imo. As a man, just a like for me (I may review it again in a few weeks to see how it develops with a little air in the bottle). Best worn on colder days. Edit: my gf states that it's too masculine for her to wear it, but loves it on me.

I'm glad i found this today, because 3 weeks ago I searched for a review to the perfume and couldn't find any. I would just like to stress on the point that it does smell very Grey after an hour, on my hand the sample smelled pretty long lasting and it has to be mentioned that it is very similar to Dior homme, this makes Dior homme a little brighter in comparison, when tested on a paper sample, after one day it outlasted DH, but it smelled like a good perfume with a note of dust. For the first 5 minutes it smells completely like DH with a hint of dust, or an earthy note, after that cardamom starts kicking in, and remains there until the whole scent fades away, the scent is completely grey cardamom with dusty and vetiver notes, may be a whiffs of incense every now and then I honestly still like it and consider it very worthy especially when compared to Dior in price and will probably buy it.

Yet, it's crucial to acknowledge a notable drawback: the sillage and longevity are disappointingly among the worst in my collection. Initially, the fragrance is piercing, yet it fades immediately during the drydown, occurring swiftly within 15 to 30 minutes, leaving behind only a pleasant, balsamic vetiver skinscent. To even detect this subtle scent, one must press their nose close to their skin. For those in search of a similar effect, I would suggest Bentley for Men Absolute. This alternative is notably similar, like the fragrance under review, it too falls short in longevity. Maybe not that much. Black Vetiver surpasses even the fleeting nature of Armaf Excellus Men, redefining the meaning of 'worst' in terms of longevity, setting a new benchmark for disappointment. Despite its potential, the fragrance appears as if Korloff opted against unleashing its full capability. This fragrance defies my usual numerical scale of 0 to 10, resembling more of a scented body mist, making it challenging to confine to standard numerical assignments.

top note is very good, sweet and powdry. but in middle and base note just iris. smell cosmetic bag. base note similar to dior homme,but dior homme without cacao. همه بوی دیور هوم رو میشناسیم کاکائو+ لوازم آرایشی حالا شما کاکائو رو حذف کنید، نتیجه میشه کورلف بلک وتیور. فقط بوی لوازم آرایشی و ماتیک! انتظار وتیور داشتم اما فقط و فقط زنبق البته این رو هم بگم تاپ نوت این عطر واقعا جذاب تر بود چرا که زنبق در ترکیب با روایح دیگه خودنمایی میکرد اما در ادامه فقط زنبق موند و بس 4/10

Picked this up in Dubai relatively cheap compared to prices of other fragrances. Smelled nice and reminded me of Dior homme. Gave it a try but projection is poor it's a skin scent within 20 minutes and longetivity equally poor after an hour.

Basically, almost everything said by andy the frenchy below......!!!! The "DIOR" vibe comes in on the drydown...on my skin. The scent does go thru "phases" on me. At first I get aromatic/incense alcohol smell...which dissapates quickly...the I DO get a soapy-vetiver/floral in the middle....then lipstick/makeup powdery....then finally Dior Homme...???...Yup !!! I do enjoy this scent a lot so far. Great price on Fragrancenet, nice classy bottle,nice packaging too. Nothing omg or wow....but it is a nice mainstream scent. Moderate sillage/projection/longevity. Skin scent territory here. But still...I like...I like...

A very quiet and less sweet kind of Dior Intense. To me it picks up the smell in the dry down. Very classy for casual occasions. This can be a year around fragrance. A great pickup for the price. Last on me a good and decent time.
