Korloff Pour Homme

@MrHonest, maybe you got a bad batch. I cant detect any fish/ fishiness in this. Mine is Korloff edp 9214B35. The initial blast of elemi and cypress come off a bit strange and holds the main accord for a substantial time. The rather synthetic apple quickly becomes absent to my nose, but I agree that the violet and leather appears quite prominent and remains during the dry down as the main players. I picture this scent belonging to a confident chairman of a large company, with stylish tailor made suit. As being a bit sharp I also consider this slightly below niche quality, but with a bold and interesting personality. What saves this scent being too flat or stinted, is imo the tolu balsam, that sneaks in during the dry down and makes KPH slightly cosier and warmer. It ́s actually a uniqe scent. A pity that it only lasts a couple of hours before becoming a skin scent. Still I ́m glad I blind bought this one and it ́s a strong like for me. Furthermore, I found a soulmate to Mr Korloff, in Morabito black agent, They blend perfectly together, creating a more long lasting, and fascinating scent mix. scent-7/10 longevity-5/10 projection-6/10 overall-7/10

Midnight at the fish market? After finding out that this one retails for 103 euro, and since some of the notes intrigued me, it was a no-brainer blind buy for 1/10th the price. Unfortunately, the elation didn't last. Confusion. Is what I felt when I first smelled it. Initial impression is that the gold atomizer is amazing. Beyond that, I got some back-draft on the first spray and immediately thought, "Oh gawd... not Sauvage!" Luckily, it's nowhere near Sauvage, but that sweet apple/pepper/elemi kick has a similar vibe for a fraction of a second. Unfortunately, what you get is far more bizarre. Spicy elemi, pepper, violet and cypress comprise the opening, with a WHISPER of a sweet apple in the background. Wish that apple would stay because after it disappears, this stuff takes a strange turn. To be blunt, it smells like the cartilage of a smoked mackerel. You read correctly. Fishy. Not like fresh fish, but more like the kind you get at the grocers wrapped in white paper. The effect is definitely caused by the elemi, violet and leather and remains for a solid 3-4 hours. After 4 hours or so, the fishiness subsides and the violet and leather take over combining with the Iso-E and synthetic ambergris to create a concrete accord similar to the one found in Narcisso Rodriguez for him, although nowhere near as good. This is when I can actually tolerate the fragrance, but certainly not enough to like it. Performance ain't great either. But heck, for 12 bucks? Sharp presentation, I'll give it that. But what a bizarre smell! Definitely unique and I can't place the quality either - maybe somewhere between designer and niche? Maybe? NOT mass appealing IMO, not long lasting, and not sweet. If you want something decent from the brand, I also picked up Royal Oud Intense and that one is a winner. A great entry-level soapy rose-oud that can be worn by just about anybody. But despite enjoying the apple note in Pour Homme, it's a solid pass. Me scusi. Scent - 4.5/10 Longevity - 6.5/10 Projection - 6/10 Overall - 5/10

The re-visit @finnlev appreciate the feedback! After wearing this one for over a year now, I can certainly say that I don't get the smoked mackerel assocation anymore. What I do get is more of the sweetness from the amber and apple pairing well with the spicy tolu and sour elemi. The first 30 minutes when everything is singing are probably my favourite, because after that the tolu does tend to take over and the sillage becomes a bit of a single, spicy 'meh'. Certainly layers really well with something like Zara's Tone Indeterminee, Eau des Missions Cologne and Bvlgari's Man Black Orient; although I always double up on the sprays with KPH since it's a bit weak. Not a bad scent at all and definitely more unique than what's on the market nowadays; but it still tends to sit at the back of the collection, relegated to occasional layering duty. As a quick postscript to the review directly below, I get no similarities to Creed's GIT whatsoever. Whereas GIT is a blast of verbena and violet leaf, KPH is more of a dark and brooding spice with a tiny hint of amber and elemi. The black colouration of the bottle is a fair approximation of the vibe imo. Hope that clears things up!

Perfect old batch 120 ml Green Irish Tweed vibe! No Cool Water, just violet with green notes. Sounds very classy!
