Black Sugar

I'll just make this a short statement to agree with Sobbok: this fragrance does deserve more praise. Really don't understand why it's not more appreciated in reviews. Korres edts are on sale where I live, and I can't believe I haven't tested these before! Black sugar reminds me a lot of VCA's Vanille Orchidée, only better: on my skin she's smoother and not as overly sweet. She's a pretty, intriguing, caramelised sugar and vanilla with a hint of florals. Soft and sophisticated. Educated, not loud, with a touch of something rebellious that's really, really subtle, maybe even hidden... Or am I projecting my personality onto this beautiful scent? :D On my skin I don't get any soap or burned smell. Longevity and projection are really good today in 18 degrees celcius, humid weather. 6 hours and she's still there, projecting. If you like VCA's Vanille Orchidée, this is a must-try! I'll probably end up buying, though I really shouldn't. At this price, who can resist?

I made a profile specifically to clear some of the bad rep this fragrance has. It was a blind buy for me as well, and after I had already ordered it I decided to check out some reviews. And boy, I saw so many people say they disliked it that I got scared for a moment, but it arrived today and I couldn't be more pleased. It smells exactly how I thought it would, starts off very sweet and sugary (reminiscent of Prada Candy) but then becomes deeper and more sophisticated, I can definitely smell the Brazilian rosewood and the more flowery rose notes. It settled into a very dark feminine fragrance, ala Armani from the early 2000s (personally it gives me a similar vibe to Armani Mania, which sadly has been discontinued, although I believe the fragrances don't share any notes). It is definitely not soapy or too artificial, and it warms nicely into the skin. Only real downside is the longevity, but I still think it's worth it for this price point.

Is hairspray listed as a note? Just joking!😂 So finally broke down and bought this the other day. Have been looking for an autumn fragrance for a long while now and was just tired of wasting money on blind buys. Also was looking for a more clean fragrance or natural fragrance. So opted for Black Sugar as I have sampled it 5 times already. It was really between this or Midnignt Dahlia, but Black Sugar is a tad more unique i think. Midnight Dahlia is sultry and great for evening but essentially a dupe of Armani Si and a liitle more mainstream of a scent but has better projection. I really like the powderyness and spun sugar smell of Black Sugar but not sure if this will work as yet for nights out. Its really that soft!!! Projection nor longetivity isnt that great and there is a hairspray vibe to it too, especially when first applied. But I'm now hooked!!!🤣 Wish it came in a travel size for topups.

This perfume has terrible performance and projection. However, it smells amazing. This is my bed time scent and I spray it on my wrists and arms before going to sleep. It helps calm me and just sends another signal to my brain that it’s bed time. Because I wear this every single night to bed it’s one of my most used fragrances and I would never be without a bottle. P.s because I love this scent (the OG EDT) I bought the newly released EDP hoping it would have better projection and might last more than an hour or two. The EDP does not compare to the EDT and smells like a different frag. The EDP is heavier and less sweet, misses the airiness. It’s a totally forgettable fragrance. The EDT is 100 times better

What's wrong with these comments? Soapy? This Black Sugar soapy? Are we smelling the same Black Sugar because on my skin this is heavenly divine and it's pure crunchy brown sugar with a boozy spicy note, very nice heliotrope and caramel and lots of vanilla but not gourmand. It's clean and slightly powdery and maybe lipstick-like but not soapy at all, to me, but warm spicy. The skin chemistry is very interesting. Not soapy at all on my skin. The longevity is good but the trail on the skin is very faint, after 30 minutes you can only smell it if you get really close. If the projection was better it would be my #1. I love it so much.

Updated review- Hi guys i think I will be returning this back to Mecca. I am not enjoying this smell tbh. It's very synthetic smelling and is kind of making me feel sick. I do not recommend this fragrance. I love the White Tea & have bought twice. Vanilla Freesia and Midnight Dahlia are also lovely, though very heavy on patchouli. I have been wanting an autumn fragrance that doesnt have so much patch, so settled on Black Sugar. However you struggle to smell it its so faint, and need to overspray it to get anything. Then you get choked out by a horrid synthetic hairspray smell. So no thanks...but will be returning.

This fragrance must react differently depending on body chemisty, because on me the notes seem to be very true to the chart. It's close-ish to Prada's Candy, but this seems more ''organic'' in a way, less synthetic than Candy. It has a slight freshness to it from the lily and rose which elevates the scent in my opinion. It's a beautiful, sweet and soft scent, a perfect choice for those who aren't such gourmand lovers (like me)! Longevity could be better but it's an EDT and with this price point you can't really complain.

Love this little musk gem! Combines the sweet notes of black sugar with the powdery scent of oriental lily, the floral aroma of violet, and the warmth of caramel. Rich sweet skin scent experience, while the oriental lily gives off a sense of innocence with its dominant yet unisex scent. Violet adds a woody floral aroma, reminiscent of early spring. I find it works beautifully at work, bedtime, on a date, or just for yourself. It is a great blind buy at this price point and would make a great gift.

God I wish this lasted longer - it’s so delicious. “Black sugar” is the best name for it, at first it smells like caramelising sugar, with a touch of bitterness - but not ruined! It just adds depth. It becomes a very close skin scent within a few hours and is a ambery, sweet floral by then. Extremely comforting and delicious, it’s truly a lovely smell and would easily be top 5 if it had better longevity and sillage. In Australia it’s not very cheap either, being sold at Mecca.

I'm surprised many people dislike this. There's something in this that reminds me of Celine's Black Tie. Smells like brown sugar milk tea (boba) with a woody undertone. I love it. Projection is not good which makes it okay to wear even during summer. It's a skin scent kind of gourmand. Longevity is not the best but for it's price, I'm not even mad. Will purchase again.

Found this at a greek pharmacy and realised that it's the perfect dupe for Prada candy, since it's a lot cheaper, basically identical and with better longevity (not great, but better). A warm and sweet and at the same time clean and light scent. Love it. I also bought their vanilla cinnamon body lotion and the layering with this scent is greatness.

This is prada candy and I do not care what anyone else says. If you don’t like sweet scents or crass candy it’s not gonna be your cup of tea. It’s warm vanilla candy, and kind of oriental? It’s creamy smooth if you dislike this scent i don’t really trust you 😭

It is not a sweet scent as I've expected. It is a beautiful woody-spicy fragrance. I smell similarities with VCA Bois d'Iris. Can be unisex.

Sweet, powdery, and absolutely magnificent.

I love Korres skincare products but I have not tried any of their perfumes until recently. Black Sugar is the first perfume I've tried from the brand and I got totally addicted to it! I don't own any perfume where sugar is a dominant note. So this smells very unique. It smells like when you're making sugar syrup and it's still hot in the pan, blending so well with the caramel note. It's not a heavy scent, it's rather airy. It can be an everyday perfume for any occasion but I prefer to wear it in the day time and it's perfect for spring. I love it so much that I keep sniffing the bottle at least once a day! For an EdT, the longevity is pretty good. I make 5~6 sprays and it lasts for 5+ hours (I spray this on my clothes rather than my skin). Projection is pretty low though. Overall, a great purchase 😘🥰

This ridiculously yummy! The opening is a gorgeous floral, sugary scent that is neither cloying or sickening. Caramel can be a tricky note for me, but this smells more like it's name: dark brown sugar, like those hard candied sugars my grandpa used to eat (not burnt, just slightly caramelized). There are enough other things going on to keep it from being boring, and as it dries down the vanilla steps forward. I have to agree that projection and longevity is on the weaker side, I too wish it had slightly better performance. It is not like I would discourage anyone from buying it though, it is still very much worth it. It's a very comforting and beautiful fragrance

I don't know if it's just me but I looove the scent! I find it perfect for an everyday autumn choice. Its eau de toilette, so after I read the reviews I thought it wasn't going to be long lasting. It proved me wrong! Idk if it's my skin but it stays for 4-5 hours. For an eau de toilette ( here in Greece 25 euros 50ml) I believe it's a good performance. When I wear it my friends notice and I get many compliments! So now it's my fall perfume! 🧡

Its a nice groumand scent, not very offending and polite. I thknk the problem is its perfomance i would like to be more powerfull. The scent is beautiful and its really good, smells delicious and the juice is intoxicating. Scent 8/10 Sillage 5/10 Longevity 4/10 Price: cheap but the perfomance is weak so needs to be even lower to buy it 6/10

This one smells so creamy and comforting. Sadly it doesn't project much and most important, at least on me, it doesn't last at all. I use it mostly when I travel as it is a small 50ml and sometime at home in the evening. Too bad because the notes' accord is great and different from anything else.

When I saw the notes I immediately bought it. But when I sprayed it was so faint and flat in a way. In the opening you definitely smell the sugar, after a while the caramel sets in. But longevity isn’t great and it’s a skin scent. Too bad, because it smells really nice otherwise

A guy can rock this. Yes it's close to Prada candy, but at the same time,.the backbone of Korres Black Sugar is open, airy and floral in a way men can totally rock. The caramel drops off rather quickly leaving this a soft, approachable yet classy scent.

for me its kinda smelling like sweet play doh it is very faint, you really gotta get in there to smell it it is nice, im not getting soap like some others do its kind of what id imagine someone would smell like after using a brown sugar scrub

A sweet vanilla scent for people who dont usually like vanilla (me) A dainty vanilla and sugar scent with a fresh opening. Too bad the lasting power is so nonexistent, would love this more if it actually lasted on the skin.

This perfume disappears within an hour and is hardly noticeable. If you want people to actually smell you I would not recommend only time I use it is to layer and even then I don't think it does anything.

Yes, so similar to Prada Candy! Deep Caramel, maybe a tiny bit darker than Prada Candy. And with better staying power. After finishing my bottle of the Prada, this might be a really good replacement.

Really nice scent all the way from opening to dry down, only negative is that it does not last very long as doesn't project super far (although it is an EDT not an EDP). Could be good for layering.

I can get the faint sugary smell of the black sugar and caramel...but it’s unfortunately overpowered by the smell of soap. I don’t think it smells bad by any means, just not what I expected lol.

This stuff reminds me on the Layrite pomade I used to wear in high school, which I always loved the smell of. Not a super syrupy vanilla fragrence. Pretty solidly unisex.

This had potential to be a pretty gourmand but alas it disappears in seconds....Korres bring it out in a decent EDP and you will have a winner on your hands....

This is definitely a Prada Candy dupe. I would say Candy is a little stronger, but the scent is the same.

Category: Sweet, vanilla, powdery Notes: Sweet caramel-esque brown sugar, powdery heliotrope, lots of vanilla and some maturity from the tonka bean and rosewood. Overall this lands somewhere between a light woody vanilla and baby powder. Vibe: Expensive lotion. Hotel lobby. Almond milk. Satin bathrobe. Tiffany lamps. Lipton caramel & vanilla tea. Face powder. Chesterfield couch. Bouquet of roses. Sillage: 3/10. Very, very weak. This is pretty much the definition of a skin scent. I think it works here, but obviously if you're looking for something with medium-strong projection or you struggle with skin that eats fragrance then this might be a disappointment for you. Longevity: 6.5/10. This lasted me about 6-7 hours on skin, which I think is fairly decent, especially considering the price point. Wear: Daytime. In my opinion this an all year round kind of scent, perfect for everyday wear. Definitely office wear approved as it is incredibly mild and inoffensive. Leans quite feminine on me. Also a decent option for those traveling through East Asia where wearing very loud and bold perfumes is considered rude. Overall rating: 5/10. This really toes the line of being a light and sweet floral vanilla or just a straight up baby powder perfume. I really don’t like fragrances that skew towards the baby product/talcum smell, so I’m frankly not quite sure how I feel about this? Part of me likes it, but part of me feels like it's just a complete mismatch with my vibe. The baby powder aspect makes it feel clean and light, but there's an added intrigue from the caramel/brown sugar lending it some sweetness and depth. The vanilla leans deep and ambery and the tonka bean adds a very mild spice and a bit of maturity. Together it creates a weird mix of traditionally juvenile and refined & old-fashioned. While it is sweet, I would not qualify this as a gourmand as the florals and rosewood takes this out of the edible category. This smells suspiciously like another fragrance I've tried but can't put my finger on what, only thing I know it is definitely something vintage. After a few hours of wear this becomes a very light, pretty vanilla, but the amount of time it takes for that baby product powderiness to disappear unfortunately makes this a fail for me. I have been a fan of their shampoo, shower gel and body lotion for years, and been always curious about their perfumes. Finally, I got a chance to visit their store in Athens on my trip to Greece and was so delighted to see the full collection of their products and test their perfumes. This is one of the bottles that I bought eventually. Before testing it, I had a rough idea that it would be sweet but dark or rich referring to its name "Black Sugar", but it turned out to be quite different from my expectation. It is sweet and warm, yet very light and fresh. The initial sprays give creamy sweetness with gentle touch of white flower notes. It smells delicious but not boring, as the floral notes really adds some freshness. I get the brown sugar, vanilla and tonka beans here. They together make the perfume smell warm and comforting, but not too heavy and cloying. After about half an hour, I start getting some musky/soapy scent, which is well blended with the sweetness. However, the performance is relatively weak. After one hour it becomes a skin scent. I agree with some of the reviews that it is a good idea to use it for bedtime.

For me personally, Black Sugar was a letdown. I have heard it mentioned in a couple of YT videos that it was an affordable great gourmand vanilla scent but my experience was different. What I got was a very faint, muted, subtle vanilla perfume with hints of sweetness. But I wouldn’t call Black Sugar a sweet perfume by any means. Has a touch of powderiness to it, probably because it has heliotrope added in the top. But overall it’s pretty disappointing. I was expecting sweet brown sugar and caramel and some vibrant florals. It has rose, lily and heliotrope apparently. Has so much notes and smells like nothing consistent! Do not recommend Black Sugar. While it’s a very affordable brand, in this case you’re better off with Rio de Janeiro body mist if you’re into sugary sweet scents! No joke...

I blind bought online, expecting a gourmand sweet, sugary, caramelized fragrance with some soft clean undertones from the florals. I was a bit disappointed because on my skin it isn't really that at all. It's kind of powdery/soapy and the sweetness is very much hidden in the background - wouldn't call it a gourmand scent despite its name. I still wore it quite a lot just to use up the bottle, and I didn't mind it. But maybe that was mostly because of how weak it is (couldn't really smell it at all after a few hours). What I enjoyed the most is the design of the bottle (the amber glass, the matte white cap, the clean font). Maybe some other Korres scent for me?

This would be a great easy-wear fragrance when you just want to smell of something rather than nothing....but its so faint I can barely smell it on my wrist, even with 3 sprays. Shame. The faint smell is good though, ambery caramelised sugar with a white floral, soapy breeze to it. Nice. I was hoping for gorgeous warm, sultry depths but it's not reaching anywhere close to that. The other fragrances in this line have miles better sillage. Cashmere kumquat has a more sultry tone than this one.

I so wanted to love this, but I have to agree with others who have reviewed it as smelling of soap. I am not sure if this is the heliotrope coming through, but it is reminiscent of an older lady fragrance and 1 hour in the sharp soapy fragrance has still not settled. I genuinely don't get any of the other notes which would've added a lovely complexity to it.

Ordered this once I saw the reviews and watched a few videos about it. Not a fav, I didn’t get any of the sweetness, but a faint floral. I ended up selling it. If you want something intimate, and non offensive for the office, this might be the one for you.

THIS IS NOT A GOURMAND VANILLA THAT YOU EXPECT. this is an Airy cotton candy, caramel-ish, kinda soapy scent i got for 21€, unique for spring, kinda feminine for me but for the price definitely worth to get for ur collection, the longevity tho is terrible

I blind bought online looking for vanilla, got caramel and powder. It's not awful and doesn't give me a headache. Not synthetic but natural and clean. More disappointed that it dissapated so very quickly. Classy bottle. More vanilla less amber please.

When I first sprayed this it smelled like parma violets, which is a sweet soapy smell I quite like, but as the day went on it was like i had a bar of soap around my neck, I really didn't enjoy it. It doesn't smell foodie or like vanilla to me.

I think this is great everyday fragrance and one to layer with stronger profiles. It definitely leans more soapy, suede on me though and I was expecting a bit more gourmand to come through.

Very safe blind buy. It's a very light fragrance that turns into a skin scent (to me). I like using it after my nightly shower since its so light and warm.

Can see the appeal but for me it smells a bit too soapy (from the florals) and watered down tea-like to really enjoy.

Nice sweet cozy daily smell, just dissapears after 1 hour. Sol de janeiro mists last longer than this

Boring perfume and it was a blindbuy..

Not what I was expecting at all from the notes. This has been on my list for a long time and was bought as a present for me. It's more of a floral scent than a gourmand. I don't find it sweet. I find it soapy, like baby powder and floral. The heliotrope and lily are the strongest notes, with a slight amber and vanilla base. I'd have loved the other notes but they are non existent. Not sugary, not sweet. Edit: After giving it to my neighbour and I started really enjoying it on her, I gave it another go and started actually liking it for what it is rather than what I was expecting. I think I was hoping for more gourmand, but it's actually really nice dusky, light, powdery, floral, a little soapy with slight sweetness. Its very mild and not what you would think of as "black sugar". The name doesn't fit. It has terrible projection and longevity I know it's an edt but the longevity is still relatively poor. It's cheap enough that I dont mind respraying. I've grown to really enjoy it.

idk if I bought an old batch back in 2024 or what, but it has always smelled musty like a badly stored vintage musky vanilla perfume. I guess it probably smells like a badly stored bottle of Prada Candy since it is supposedly a dupe for Candy (idk, it's been years since I smelled it. I remember Candy not smelling candy-like to my nose but a vaguely sweet powdery musky fragrance kind of along the lines of Curve Crush). Again, idk if that "mustiness" is just how the notes smell in this particular fragrance and I am smelling it right, I just don't like it OR if it was actually badly stored before I got it and when I smelled it a couple years ago when I first received it this is why it smells bad to me.
