Krizia Uomo

[Like many fragrances that have been around since the eighties, Krizia Uomo has been reformulated at least once, and perhaps more than that. This review pertains only to the latest formulation. As someone who’s been wearing it irregularly for about fifteen years, I’ve never noticed a significant change in its contents.] So many scents created in the seventies and eighties have fallen by the wayside due to ever-changing tastes in fragrances. There are a few that remain on favorites lists, but these are the exceptions instead of the rule. Having watched YouTube fragrance reviews for about six months now, I’ve never seen a review of this, and considering the quality of the scent, it’s a shame. It’s not for everyone, but it wears so incredibly well in the winter that I just had to share how much I enjoy it with a bigger audience. (And since winter is just ending, what better time than now?) It’s too good to be kept a secret. According to Fragrantica, on the top we have: aldehydes, Artemisia, juniper berries, mandarin orange, basil and lemon; in the middle, cyclamen, carnation, sandalwood, jasmine, cedar, pine tree needles and geranium; and in the base, leather, patchouli, musk, oakmoss, and vetiver. It was released in 1984, and created by the Swiss company Firmenich. It’s really more complex than this, but in the beginning what you get is pine, pine, pine. Some reviews online accuse it of being a Pinesol-like smell, but I don’t get the medicinal or detergent-like quality at all. What the opening reminds me of specifically is going out at Christmas time as a kid and cutting down your own 8-foot tree in a gigantic, sprawling spruce or pine forest, and the smell of your hands for the rest of the day when you have that sharp, sparkly-smelling, resinous sap on your hands. The opening has that harsh, resinous, pine-sappy grating quality in the nose. If you don’t over-apply, this only lasts 10-15 minutes on me before it starts to develop. It never loses that deep, sea-green earthiness, but as time goes on I start to pick up some of the more (very slight) floral notes, the oakmoss, and the vetiver. It never turns “floral,” per se, but there are the barest hints of carnation and germanium. It is VERY strong – so strong that I usually apply with the atomizer at a fair distance from my skin so as to get a faint mist instead of a full-on spray. When I’ve sprayed this on my clothes, there are times when I could easily smell it a whole two days later. The projection and sillage with Krizia are off-the-charts good. With as few as three sprays, it will last over ten hours. I would classify this strictly as a late fall or winter fragrance; you definitely don’t want to sport this in three-digit heat. If you’re light on the trigger, I don’t think it’s going to offend many people at work, especially if you have a commute to work where it can settle down on the skin first. This isn’t for everyone. It’s unquestionably bold, piney, assertive, and uncompromising, but some might not find it unique enough to be a “formal occasion” fragrance. That’s fine. My favorite times to wear it are when it’s freezing outside, something I’ve been doing ever since middle school when I first laid my nose on a bottle of it. It cuts through cold air like no other fragrance I’ve ever smelled. Maybe the best part is that you can buy 100 ml. of it on fragrancenet for $15.99. If you like deep, dark, sparkly, sharp, resinous, piney scents, you could do a lot worse than to blind buy this, or get your hands on a sample. This deserves more play in the world of reviews, even if they are from people who don’t care for it.

In times of uncertainty, not just of the world as we know it, but in personal uncertainty, of which I have much right now, I reach for the remedy of nostalgia. The faded hopes and dreams and past lives through the dusty lens; the aperture closes and once reopened, the lives lived are gone. The only evidence is the artifacts we may hold dear to us. I donned Krizia Uomo, and I had to pause. I listened to Brian Eno's "How Many Worlds." I realize that I am growing weary of the prosaic approach to describing scent ("just tell us what it smells like"), but for the sake of being helpful, Krizia Uomo has elements that are first may seem standard, even somewhat gruff and acrid to certain noses in its beginnings: sharply aldehydic cold snap green leaves and brisk pine needles. However, it quickly diverges into a coniferous floral heart, and what I detect is the use of cyclamen aldehyde, with its verdant, plant stem, waxy quality similar to that of the flower. Herbaceous adornments run throughout its development, while its coda is a caraway leather-musk. It is less pungent than its peers Polo, Quorum, One Man Show, etc., and tempers machismo with a more contemplative feel overall. Perhaps this is why it's giving me what the kids call these days "the feels." Its coarseness smoothing out into elegance is stimulating much the same way that dissonance resolving into consonance is so satisfying in music.

Krizia Uomo is a fantastic 80s perfume that's still wearable and of great quality. The slightly citrusy opening with mandarin and lemon makes for a pleasant initial impact, and that scent lingers for a while. Then the pine needles, geranium, patchouli, and oakmoss become the soul of an absolutely well-crafted perfume. It exudes 80s urban elegance; in my opinion, it must have been considered very sexy back then. Excellent performance; if you find the Parma spa version with vertical gold stripes, you'll hit the jackpot! I'd avoid using it on hot days; otherwise, it's a versatile perfume suitable for men 35 and up. A gem worth rediscovering! Fantastico profumo anni 80 da riscoprire. I wore Krizia Uomo for many years. I came to relish its Firmenich-crafted magic, and it became a key component of my fragrance collection. I used to make a special trip to Jacobson's in Winter Park, FL just to buy it. I went through bottles and bottles of it. Both Krizia Uomo and Jacobson's became victims of changing times. The Krizia Uomo you see online now is a dismal facsimile of what it had been. Instead of looking for vintage bottles, I chose to savor my supply of the original release to the very last spray or splash and commit the aroma to memory. I still have a very smart, olive green toiletry bag with black piping and foldable metal twist lock closures that came with a set of eau-de-toilette and aftershave. I now use it to hold small mementos. Alas, Krizia Uomo is just a Fragrantic memory in a rather large collection of ghost aromas that haunt me. Such memories are as sweet to me as those of family, friends, or life events. They are moments lived and worth remembering. I will always love Krizia!

Purchased at a discount store yesterday for less than $20. My initial "get" is that it's what Silvestre Pino wants to grow up to be. I get a real blast of pine/juniper initially with the adelhydes amping everything up. Love that first half hour--I don't do subtle, pretty or aquatic. I find there to be very little "middle," with some florals; I'm not the best figurer-outer on individual notes during transitions. I catch mostly moss with the base after a several hours, though the patchouli is there for awhile. Similar to Tsar (especially) once the initial phase is over; similar to Quorum but without the lavender or staying power. This is masculine. Don't know about 80s-era. I will share this with my 14 year old as he's nearly done with Tsar. Works for work for me. Edit: I get a 20 minute drydown on my skin. A couple hits on fabric helps keep the initial and midnotes present, especially the juniper. Much improved. Scent: 7/10 Sillage: 5/10 Longevity: 6/10

This is my all time favorite; A powerhouse of a fragrance! I am down to my last three bottles. Oh how I wish Krizia would bring it back. I have been wearing this for years; since it first came out. Piney, Woody, Vetiver - what a combination! Just the impression I want to leave as I walk through a room, without saying much. There is nothing like it 10/10. Good for hours and hours on me. A flannel shirt, a pair of corduroys, my timberlands and Krizia: I got it all going on! You know it! Who am I kidding; I would wear this with a Tuxedo (2-3 sprays). Stands up to cool or cold weather. I wear it whenever! Because, in the end, your signature scent is who you are- not who you want to be! The one with the atomizer incorporated into the cap and the two gold stripes going down the front of the bottle. I also have the Body Shampoo and the After Shave Balm. How is that for overkill?

Krizia Uomo resembles a blend of the best elements from Quorum and Paco Rabanne, as well as a touch of Polo, backed by subtle florals. For me, this easily replaces all three as the King of Green. Immediately it comes across as shockingly smooth for a woody-green fragrance with such normally sharpish elements to it...but...there is something else here. I don't know what but (I mean this quite literally) it smells buttery. Whatever that is, it overlays the whole presentation: gorgeously rich, smooth, sedate, and gentle, where, say, Boss Sport - another ancient favorite of mine - is bold and outgoing. Krizia Uomo is a true gent who reduces One Man Show, yet another favorite, to a crude, shouting lout. If this fragrance isn't considered a classic, that's a shame and a crime. Should it ever be faithfully reproduced note for note, it will top my Would Insta-Buy list.

So Cool! Pure Italian beauty from the 80's! Love it! The pine/juniper/citruses/aldehydes combo is perfectly done with the main accord being still the pine. Its juicy, fresh, lush and green while also aromatic and classy! Very easy to use and cool looking bottle. This juice is in the same vein as Sergio Soldano (nero) for Men (1985). Performance is very good, the dry down lasts you til the end of the day. I consider this to be a signature fragrance for above 35 and though it has that outdoorsy, woody, forest vibe to it, I can also see this perfectly working in a big city environment like NYC. A true Italian statement! Love it!

Mine is the older version with the stripes on the bottle with the integral atomizer in the cap. I wore this yesterday and I'm compelled to say this scent is remarkable! What a masterful orchestration of spices and "coniferousness" and slight soapiness. Very good longevity. Look at my Fragrantica virtual shelves, and you will see I placed it near Quorum and Montana Parfum d'Homme Montana for men, because of the similar spiceiness of the three.

Tenho este perfume há mais de 30 anos e ele sempre será o meu preferido. Perfume amaderado com notas de almíscar e âmbar, com leve fresco cítrico e excelente fixação. Foi a opção que me foi oferecida na época em que eu não tinha dinheiro para comprar o Polo da Ralph Lauren e supriu com elegância. Ele traz muita nostalgia da minha juventude.

An old school pine/woody fragrance. Krizia is really lovely. Distinctive pine and aldehydes with a fresh uplifting sillage. In my opinion, this is nicer than OMS but, I agree, it is similar - Krizia is closer to GBH Red. Longevity and projection are very good. The drydown stays aldehydic and fresh. Very masculine and great value.

Professor,the old one is the one you see in the picture above,with the built-in atomizer and golden stripes,the new has a similar bottle but not as spikey like the old one and no stripes,and it has a cap and under an indipendent atomizer,the old version is still easy available,at least here in Europe!

I'm really starting to love this the more I wear it- the strong clove-cinnamon-orange-peel opening is marvelous... but I tell you: the far drydown is really dominated by smooth sandalwood- and good quality stuff from the days before it was over-harvested. Beautiful.

I have loved this fragrance since it was launched in 1983. I used it a lot in the 80'd and 90's. After many years, I recently bought a bottle and I am glad I did. It smells the same as it did years ago. It has very good silleage and it lasts a long time on me.

Think of a snow covered pine forest on a mountain range,fresh flowing river,crisp air and a cold breeze.This is what I get from Krizia Uomo.It is very green,cool and refreshing with satisfying longevity and sillage.In hot summer days this will cool you down.

Gorgeous green lemony piney juice which keeps itself green, happy and cheerful for a very long time. The drydown is mossy musk with the happy factor also present. A happy fougere to lift your spirits at any time of the day! Thumbs up!

A powerhouse of a fragrance. Got my first bottle many years ago and sourced another about 10 years ago I think from Fragrance X. Great longevity and sillage - one to used sparingly &would suggest mor of an evening fragrance. Love it.

Very well done and a lovely classic now discontinued. However, it seems like Dior has recently retained the same 80's DNA in one of their classics. Krizia Uomo smells strikingly similar to Dior Jules (2016).

Man I loved this stuff. I used to keep a bottle in my MGB. Once it was finished, I'd get a new one and throw the empties in the back. It was my signature scent for years. I miss it. Those were the days.
