Rice Cake

Oh this is horrid. I love rice notes and I grew up eating rice daily so I am very particular about the rice steam accord in my perfumes. The only perfume I've ever found that has a true steam rice accord is the opening of l'eau papier. Every other perfume that claims to be "rice steam" has fallen short and KST is no exception. This perfume smells strongly of alcohol and even as it dries down I do not get any notes of rice. It smells somewhat like the Korean rice wine but that's not what I signed up for when I bought this fragrance. It has a strong plastic scent. Cammy reviews on tiktok talked this up and honestly it was disgusting. I've learned I cannot trust her taste.

Rice Cake is my most favorite from the discovery set and probably my favorite rice fragrance right now too! It's a sweet, fluffy, airy rice cake scent with both lactonic and starchy facets. The fig leaf adds a little bit of a fresh and green touch that really balances the composition and makes it even more photorealistic. It's so comforting and cozy, feels like a hug in a bottle. Easy reach on any occasion, any day, any season. A great longevity and sillage for a skin(ish) type of scent. 11 rice cakes out of 10 🍚

This fragrance is so unique and captivating! It lasts a nice amount of time on my skin with a very intimate projection. I have a lot of rice fragrances and this one really stands out. There is a TEXTURE and chewiness to this fragrance and the steam note is captured perfectly! This fragrance is creamy and warm and sweet but just the tiniest bit from the rice. It's so cozy and I'm very thrilled to have this in my collection!

This is such a beautiful and comforting scent that could be worn year round, day or night. It has the perfect blend of starch, sweetness and musk while the sesame and amber give it that coziness. This was my favorite from the discovery set, followed by Tambae and Gay Oppa. What a fun house! Even the scents I wouldn’t wear on my skin are a creative scent journey & I enjoyed smelling them all.

I love the scent and its notes; it's perfect for day or night and suits almost any season. I usually wear it during the day and again before bedtime. If you love the aroma of rice cake, I highly recommend this fragrance; it captures the essence of rice cake perfectly!

I got 2 bottles of this blind, as I don’t have a proper gourmand rice fragrance in my collection (L’eau Papier doesn’t really count) and I’ve tried so many others (Strawberry Mochi, White Rice, Dirty Rice, Sweet Farewell, Vanilla Eclat, Nearly Noon, and Santal Basmati) that were not quite what I was looking for, or performed very poorly. This is lightly sweet, starchy and powdery with a nutty sesame note and does last very well, although it leans gentler in projection, like a skin scent. Really glad I got 2 bottles as well as the Pride sample set in 1 order as the international shipping is pricy. My favourite of those was Z Straight 1 which opens with the most luscious and photorealistic muscat green grape nectar note I’ve ever smelled in a fragrance, than transitions into a slightly metallic, clean soapy herbal and green drydown. All of the scents from KST I tried so far have this ephemeral quality that makes me feel like a fairy wearing them — these fragrances have pixie dust or something. James is a magician. All the suggested “similar perfumes” on this page are wrong. KST and D.grayi make some of the most unique scents out there so there is nothing niche or designer that even smells remotely the same just because it lists rice as a note.

yummy dry down. initial spray was sweet in a strange way - like it had a plastic smell almost? thankfully that disappeared into a delicious, creamy, sweet scent with this underlying curious note that i can't fully place! could be the sesame and rice mix, so yummy just makes me wanna huff the smell! sadly, it doesn't last very well on me. maybe 2 hours. 2.5/5, would be a 3 if it lasted more esp as the dry down is my favourite part :(

I find this very pleasant. For me, the steamed rice and a vanilla-type smell (the cake?) is very strong at first, and then it dries down to something slightly sweet and milky. It might be too similar to Phlur Not Your Baby for me (the milky/powdery aspect) which is one of my favorites, so I might not get a full size.

Like sticking your nose in a steamy bowl of vanilla sticky rice. This is lactonic and kind of reminds me of Blanche Bete. Not as savory as I anticipated, but I still enjoy it. Wearable and perfect for a girl who’s kind of shy, if I’m being honest.

To me, rice smells like if you took Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Milk and added a green figgy note to it. The sesame is present, as well as a sticky, cooked rice note- very similar to a a cooked rice cake used in tteokbokki or other korean rice cake dishes. It's not super sweet, just has a hint of creamy vanilla. I wore this to bed and it was very pleasant aside from the green note which was a bit too sharp for me. Otherwise really nice and a solid rice frag!

ugh i'm so sad!! i think i'm completely anosmic to this D: i love rice fragrances and most of the other reviews are raving about this but even with overspraying i can't tell the difference between this and my skin? i'm going to pretend that's just because my skin naturally smells as amazing as all the other reviews mention and it's not just me being noseblind to it lmao. overall rating: 🩷🩷💔🖤🖤 2.5/5

So where is rice cake in Rice Cake? I am reminded of Moncler. Vanilla. Snow in Moncler must be like the steam note in this.

Wow. Simply put, WOW. I was beyond shocked by this fragrance. As a self proclaimed rice and sesame note connoisseur, I could not pass up a sample of this. It’s now risen the ranks to be my favorite rice fragrance of all time. It’s savory, soft, enveloping, intimate, and tender with just a touch of sweetness. Perfectly encapsulates the feeling of opening up your rice cooker and getting brushed with the steam against your cheeks. The fig leaf is not super green to my nose, but instead adds an extra depth of creaminess and almost a lactonic aspect to the fragrance. The sesame shines through so beautifully in this. It’s toasty, nutty, and so effortlessly comforting. Similar to the sesame in Diptyque’s L'Eau Papier but more detectable and better blended to my nose. The amber and musk in the base notes round out everything else PERFECTLY and make it feel like a warm hug. The projection is great for what the scent profile is and the longevity is amazing! On my skin it lasts more than 6 hours. I cannot recommend this more for the rice lovers out there and especially for those who don’t like a super sweet gourmand (that’s me lol)! I will be purchasing this over and over and over again. I cannot wait to see what this house has in store for the future! I cannot wait to try their other fragrances. Gay oppa is on the top of my list!

I’m certain rice cake is going to be the money-maker for kst! This is so photorealistic- it expresses the sweetness of a rice cake while maintaining its savory quality. I’m sure the gourmand infatuation will continue in this more savory direction and with that- this is a total trend-setter. It lasts quite a while but remains close to your skin in a very intimate way. I love it. It’s like if you got some rice cake on your skin and you licked it off. ;)

Truly incredible!! Musky, savory, sweet and starchy what more could you ask for! This scent is so special and delicious. It immediately wraps you in a luscious warm hug that I never want to end. My partner was glued to my wrist all night after I sprayed this on myself, smelling it multiple times just huffing in the sweet smell. This is absolutely on my full bottle wishlist because I am obsessed, as is my partner!

Milky, slightly sweetened rice! As someone who enjoys a rice fragrance and owns several fragrances in this category, this has a very special place in my heart and in my collection. It’s incredible how the lactonic facets of this perfume is captured so wonderfully, in combination with the starchiness of the rice. So comforting and so unique! One of my new favorite additions for sure!

I’m picturing this smelling like i’m hovering over a plate of hot sticky rice, its the starchy steam caressing my cheeks on a rainy day. pots and pans clanking in the kitchen as grandma prepares the rest of the food. homely comfort and bonding over food.

This is L'artisan Parfumeur Havana Vanille (2009) if you tone down the greenness and make it a tad sweeter. Rice Cake is more affordable though considering $/mL as Havana Vanille is very hard to find these days and you're paying a premium.
