Black Coconut

I just bought this today. I was recommended it by some people over on reddit, as I was looking for some coconut scents. Coconut is my favorite note, and I mean FAVOIATE of any scent. I want to drown in coconut. Not overly sweet, and not super tropical either. Just coconut. And I feel like this gets it exactly how I want it! The notes list on the site are as follows: Top notes: Toasted Coconut, Bergamot Middle notes: Jasmine, Cacao, Chocolate Base notes: Vanilla, Musk I bought the $11 3.7 ml roll on from WF. When I first smelt it, my first thought was sunscreen. Which wasn't the vibe I was going for, but I didn't hate it, so I grabbed it. I mean, it was $11, can't go wrong. I immediately put some on after check out, just a couple of circles on my wrist. I would like to say, I did already have some Coconut Water Eos lotion and a few sprits of Milky White by Dossier on. I've had perfume oils before, so I knew to let it set for a bit before trying to smell it. Perfume oils need to sit on the skin and mix with your body chemistry to get the full effect. (Although it labels its self as a "Fragrance oil", based on the ingredients, it is in fact a perfume oil) And I am so glad I waited. The scent is pure coconut. True, toasted coconut. It's just ever so slightly sweet, and the musk really comes through. It mixed very well with my natural body chemistry, laying on nicely. It almost completely lost that sunscreen/Tanning lotion vibe you get smelling it from the bottle. I went to my mom's house for a bit, and my younger sister could not stop smelling me, saying I smelt good. I put this on around 4:30 this afternoon, and now at 11 o'clock at night, I can still smell it on myself, Although, I will say it is much more subtle now. I would say that up until about 8ish, I could still smell it at an arms length. And a little goes a long way, as it will with an perfume oil. This tiny little bottle will last you MONTHS. I feel like this is the perfect base to layer with other products, or, in more intermate settings, on it's own. The combo with the Milky White and Coconut Waters seems to do very well. I would also say it would layer good with Dirty coconut by Heretic. If you have other coconut perfumes or body mist, it honestly will layer very well, even if the mist/perfume is more tropical or sweet leaning. It will truly just bring out that coconut note to the MAX. Overall, 10/10, perfect, could not recommend enough. On the Website, it is a little cheaper at $10.90 instead of the $11.40ish I paid in store, but after shipping it comes out to closer to $16 for me (Will differ based on location), so if you do buy it, I would try to get it in person, unless you are buying the bigger bottle. I believe only the smaller roll on is available in stores. They do also have a Black coconut lotion available, so I am curious to try that!

Kuumba Made is a brand I keep returning to....because in the market of Natural Perfumery, their products are superior. Simple as that. I had purchased their Black Coconut offering in probably 2022 and still continue to use it! A little goes a VERY long way! It is exactly what it says....BLACK Coconut! In this SIMPLICITY, however......lies an un-adulterated, no-frills, totally chemical-free essence of the most fragrant aspects of raw coconut one could ever hope to find. The truth is, many people who love coconut fragrance love ‘The Version of Coconut’ that has been manufactured to represent a more “commercially enjoyable” coconut scent by use of Aroma-Chemicals and other means....and when a person finally does have the opportunity to experience something like Coconut in its Natural State, it can often seem different than where a person has set their expectations. All that Aside, now on to the actual fragrance: The Black Coconut you will be experiencing is still sweet, but much much less-sweeter than artificial coconut notes found in nearly all other commercially manufactured & sold coconut products. I enjoy this quality very much. There is very little or NO “Lactonic/Milky/Creamy” aspect to Black Coconut. (Kuumba Made has a separate Creamy Coconut product that may be more your tempo if that is what you desire.) Black Coconut is very rich, and very bold, and very robust with some very serious staying-power! One or Two drops on back of hand, or wrist or etc will waft for hours and hours and on clothing could last days. I can say this having experienced this many times and I love it. The ‘darker’ plant material like husks, shell, etc, plus the ‘typical’ coconut plant material like the water, meat and milk were all used in the creation of this oil making it very unique and very pure, but also lends itself perfectly to the Darker/ BLACK coconut scent profile that makes this so very unique. VERSATILITY wise, Black Coconut is a masterpiece because of how it was made and what it was made from! I have used it by itself, I have used it to layer with alcohol-based EDP, I have used it to layer with Oil-Based fragrances, and I have used it as an additive to lotions to very great success!! I love how it interacts with Sandalwood, especially. Vanilla, of course...or fragrance or ANY scent profile that a person could conceive of that could use Coconut as an additive or layer!! The Verdict: M A S T E R P I E C E 🌴 🥥

Oh yay this has been added to the database! Black Coconut is a very natural intense coconut. Lots of olfactory/photo realism here. It is like you are smelling the husk/hull w/ a natural sweet coconut. It is not an overly creamy milky foody kind of coconut, does have an organic sweetness. Beachy, tropical sort of coconut. This is a GREAT layering oil or is very nice on its own. It also works well to increase coconut notes in other perfumes. Has fairly nice longevity. Easy 6-8 hours wear. Sillage goes up depending on how much you apply. Kuumba also makes one called Creamy Coconut - which retains a little more creamy milky quality, also natural smelling and very nice. Hopefully they will add that one and I will also add review.

I recently obtained a .5 oz bottle of this fragrance oil as part of a much larger order. It is indeed a coconut lovers dream. It is not a gourmand coconut.....it is more natural and less saccharine. If you have ever been to the Caribbean and have came across sun dried coconut husks, the “dark” part of the dark coconut gives off this sort of vibe. Very easy to wear nd very enjoyable to wear. As Butterbean pointed out, it is great for emphasizing a coconut note in a different scent or adding it to one that the designer perhaps overlooked. Concentrated, dense, long lasting excellence. The Verdict : Excellent

A coconut lovers dream! This fragrance oil is as it sounds. A ripe dark coconut with a thick delicious buttery pulp, sitting in the shade hidden away from the hot summer sun. Thankfully, this fragrance oil doesn't stray into the suntan lotion coconut scent territory I do not want on my skin. Honestly, I enjoy this Black Coconut so much, I even wear it in winter when I am thinking of summer. Wonderful layered with a vanilla fragrance. My only issue is the longevity. I wish they made this into a perfume so I could enjoy the delcious fragrance longer.

i def get the playdoh smell if i apply this too liberally... if i just do a drop and rub it in then it's more of a true coconut. but smelling it up close - yeah, it smells synthetic, almost spicy, and like playdoh. thankfully nobody is putting their nose to my wrist so i don't care too much, plus once it warms to your body it seems to go away. it's less sweet and sunscreeny than creamy coconut, this one smells very toasted and a bit like almonds. not sweet almond extract though, just pure almonds. i love this, when used correctly.

I assumed I would prefer Kuumba Made's Creamy Coconut because I tend to like sweeter scents, but I was wrong. Their two coconut scents are definitely similar in scent/application/performance, so I wouldn't say you need both, but if you have to choose between the two I would definitely go with this one. The Black Coconut is richer and more natural smelling, while still having the same sweetness to it. Sillage and longevity are pretty good for an oil, and the value is great.

A fantastic budget coconut scent!. Dense, potent, rich and tropical. There’s a lot of sweetness and some dark woodiness. If you like Lavanila Coconut and Pacifica Indian Coconut, give this one a try too. It’s about the same quality-wise, but it’s a different face of coconut. Wonderful for layering (as Butterbean pointed out) with vanilla, citrus, other fruits, musks, smooth woods, or white florals. If you want something more noir you can also layer it with amber or spices.

I've had the rollerball for over a year and it used to smell richly of coconut. Most oils get richer and deeper, better the longer I own and use them. Not this one. It no longer smells like coconut. It smells now only like whatever the base that's used for this fragrance. Not sure if these have expiration dates but I definitely won't be using this anymore as it has lost all of its scent. I'll need a new one.

The best coconut fragrance I own. Like others have said, no extra vanilla or sugary notes (if you want that, check out Kuumba Made Creamy Coconut). Just a ultra-realistic copy of a real coconut. Absolutely great scent. Love layering with it, and love wearing it on its own. Highly recommend. For $10, you really cant afford not to buy this if you're into coconut scents.

Straight up delicious, warm coconut. Perfect for layering and lingers beautifully on the skin. Honestly, 10/10 for the straight-forward coconut scent, quality and affordable price! <3

I can't tell the difference between Creamy Coconut and Black Coconut. But I love them. Gives the smell I wish body creams had.

There it is, the perfect coconut to wear alone or layer. Strong AF, long lasting, and a beach lover's dream.

I got this to layer with some summer scents and it’s straight up coconut in a bottle. I don’t get any other notes than coconut, not even sweet notes. I actually really like it but it made my sweet perfumes less sweet, which as someone who likes to smell like a sweet little treat most time, not the vibe. I ended up giving it to my bf and it layers well with literally anything. Instantly makes any perfume feel like summer. I will say sometimes it’s the bottle it does smell off but on skin that goes away. Also it does stain since as the name says it’s black coconut

Curiously strong - just apply tiny dots of it and let it do it's thing. Don't try sniffing it from your skin, let it waft and billow and you'll get a seductively dark coconut aura. Less is more with this one.

I like it especially to layer or if I want an oil instead perfume day nice smelling simple

This was okay at first. It kinda smelled like virgin coconut oil but not as natural. It had a slight tanning lotion vibe. However after having it for a couple months, it now has something rancid floating in the background that reminds me of the stench of a dead rat. It's not an overpowering stench but I had to throw it away because once my brain connects the dots to what I'm smelling, it's game over. A couple other things that bothered me about this oil was the black color. I don't know if a natural dark ingredient was used but it kinda just looked like food coloring or something. I put it on my chest and had some pimples in that area the next day so I assume that was the cause. I won't purchase this again. It wasn't the type of coconut I was looking for.

Meh.... I was really hoping to like this since I was on a quest to find a "perfect coconut" scent for summer but this one is not it. Horrible longevity, zero projection, I don't see a point in this "fragrance oil". Might as well use a coconut-scented body lotion, at least the body lotion can still be smelled on the skin a while. This oil disappears from the skin almost immediately.

It doesn’t smell good. It smells like straight up incense, and made my skin irritated (i don’t even have sensitive skin, and didnt have the same reaction to creamy coconut by the same brand). I could get why people like it, but it being compared to comptoir sud pacifique coco extreme is CRAZY to me.

It starts nicely and sweet, like real coconut. But after about 10 minutes it becomes earthy and “herby”.... (tonka?) Not too unpleasant but definitely a different kind of fragrance... Not too in love with this one, as I thought initially.

This is not extraordinary. It’s just coconut with a vanilla twist. I think it’s okay and nice for layering. I have grown out of this scent and don’t wear it much, but it is an easy office friendly coconut vanilla.

Very waxy coconut scent, like old sunscreen. No chocolate or almond at all. This was so disappointing. I reached out to the company and they told me to put them in hot water for a while to “wake up” the scents. Ummmm... yeah, not good enough. All I can smell is wax. Waste of money

Terrible. Plastic melting pretending to be coconut. I ordered the creamy coconut and received a free sample of this. Both smell like headache inducing burnt plastic that burns my sinuses. No sign of anything that smells remotely like a coconut. The creamy coconut is melted plastic with a touch of vanilla. The black coconut is plastic with a touch of dirt. I don’t understand why/how these terrible fragrances keep getting pushed on us as “coconut.” I have the same issue with yves rochers green coconut spray, sol de janieros coconut, dolce garden, and others. Pure plastic, burns my nose, gives me a headache, makes me nauseous. They’re all truly awful, and I’ve never said that even about the scents I hate the most. I never smelled a plastic “coconut” fragrance before about 5 years ago, before that I spent 30 years of slathering myself in any cheap coconut on hand with zero complaints. Something changed in the fragrance world when it comes to coconut, and it’s a really bad change.

In my head, coconut-centric fragrances tend to fall under these categories: 1) tropical 2) fresh, clean, creamy and true to a real coconut 3) sweet gourmand. This one takes the sweet gourmand route, which unfortunately is my least favorite. To me this smells like a coconut cookie, cake or macaroon. I was expecting pure coconut, but ended up with vanilla, sweet amber and toasted coconut. It's not a bad fragrance, but certainly not what I was looking for. I'm not frantic to return this and instead see myself using it for layering and adding a sweet mellow note to dry, heavy or musky scents. I see this one as having mass appeal to people who like their coconut sweet, edible and toasty. For under $10 it's a pretty safe blind buy if you enjoy the preceding description.

It's a little bitter and rubbery on first application, then dries down to the scent of nutty, buttery, lightly toasted unsweetened coconut. It's GREAT! A very grown-up, natural coconut scent for those who don't want to smell like baked goods or suntan oil. And don't let the tiny 1/8 oz bottle worry you. This is intensely concentrated and you don't need much.

This is beautiful. It's simple-- coconut BUT to me, it's a little more complex than the "Creamy Coconut" scent from Kuumba Made. Creamy Coconut is more of that artificial coconut, the kind that's added to flavors of food. But Black coconut is just... I don't know, its just a little more tropical and real. Both are delicious but this one is the winner for me. I layered this with the famous EOS lotion- Coconut Waters and a bit of Amber Paste from Kuumba made. Wow I smelled like a vacation goddess!

This is gorgeous - roasted coconut husks rather than the sweeter white flesh. A really deep rich coconut aroma without a suntan-lotion vibe at all. Excellent for layering - it seems to go with everything I've tried - and just nice to wear alone. I've had dozens of compliments for this.

Smells sweeter than their creamy coconut, but still has that salty note that the other coconut has too. Which makes it smell like playdoh to me. Warm playdoh.

Should be called dirty coconut. Has a weird chemical scent, not in a good way.
