Black Copium

Black Copium is a decadent mix of black coconut and Opium. It's good! Kuumba Made perfume oils sit close on the skin but they are noticeable, especially this one.

I read about this in a list of spicy perfumes under $10, on the fragrantica homepage. $10 for perfume is a red flag for me, and printed on this proverbial red flag are the words “too good to be true”. Red flag aside, I kept an open mind and ordered a small bottle. Black copium began very waxy. I saw a comment somewhere that said it smelled like “cheap clove candle”, and for the first few moments that was my experience. This fades, though. After the candle wax has subsided, it becomes a spicy potpourri bar of soap with buttery coconut oil. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t smell very much like perfume.. It was too good to be true.

I put this on as soon as the mailman delivered it. Hours later, my husband got home from work and the first thing out of his mouth was "What is that stale pee smell?" Spectacular fail.

I just can't nail down how I feel about this one. It's very cheap- and fake-smelling at first - a little like hot plastic - but as soon as my body warms it up, the scent goes into a softer mode. After about 10 minutes, I get really peppery-sweet notes - spice-like. After about 15 to 20 minutes, it's faded out so much that I have to put my nose to my skin to get a whiff and what's weird is that faint smell is what I wanted from the fragrance. It's a soft musk-with-honey smell. Too bad it fades to nothing. This was cheap enough that I didn't mind the blind purchase. I am using it as a base for Kuumba's Vanilla Bean and the Amber Paste. This is nice with the Vanilla and together they both last a tiny bit longer. It's nicer with the Amber Paste but still doesn't last as long. I wish they all had the strength and staying power of the Egyptian Musk!

This perfume oil is my favorite of all oils that I own. It is a creamy spice scent with an undertone of coconut, but the coconut isn't cloying or synthetic smelling...it just rounds the fragrance out. When first applied it has decent sillage that settles close to my skin after 3 hours. My daughter, in her 20's, loves this oil as well and calls it her "cute boy magnet" as all of her dates tell her she smells delicious.

Yes this is indeed Opium by YSL.. but... as it is oil based and has a wonderful punch of coconut, this has a stickier, more intense vibe to me! Kuumba Made is a natural brand which makes this a healthier alternative to YSL if you care about that sort of thing! Sexy, dark, and alluring. I have found the longevity to be outstanding, 6+ hours.

Intense, but very good at what it does - just use sparingly and you'll notice the difference. This is one that's best left to waft, not smell up close.

Chouli Galore nailed it. This oil does smell extremely similar to Opium. A fun, inexpensive scent that lasts about 2-3 hours. Highly recommend.
