Frankincense & Myrrh

A bit citrusy and rather sweet. I almost get a hint of bubblegum, which I get from other resinous scents (e.g. Bal à Versailles). As others have noted, it has a head shop thing going on. I'd feel weird wearing this one with formal or office wear, unless I was in the mood to let my freak flag fly. Still, great bang for the buck, and never hits an off note for me. Layers well with other scents (esp. citruses, florals). Most recently I wore this with an oil dupe of Stella by Stella McCartney (a bright, citrusy rose)--I meant to apply more of the Stella and grabbed this vial instead, accidentally concocted a stunning oriental rose, and spent the rest of the evening delightedly huffing my arms.

Balsamic, comforting sweetness of resin with a pinch of citrus hint that penetrates and envelopes everything around. With that thing on you are blessing location with heavenly presence. No smokiness registered for me :) Straightforward composition, for one it might be too linear. On the other hand, I want nothing more, than this obnoxious duo of "church"-like resins. Oil-based; the only substance causing allergic reaction on my skin, but only behind the ear area. Longevity is good (great for 4-6h, close to skin for about 10h), but projection and sillage are great during first 2-3h. Loving it, 10/10 even though it's not perfect.

This. Is. AMAZING!! People are dogging on it as being sharp or for not smelling like incense. False (imho)! Rich, intense, warm, a tad vanillic. It smells identical to the incense we burn at Catholic mass. To each his/her own, but I am blown away by this. It's like Shalimar, and Opium light. Very reminiscent of a gorgeous perfume from the past, it even sports a certain aldehyde effect. Excellent sillage for an oil fragrance.

My nose takes this slightly differently than many of the reviews. The frankincense and myrrh notes are unmistakable, but besides those I smell a spiky, bitter, green accord, possibly galbanum. This is neither sweet nor sour, but a refreshingly green-bitter, which I really like. I wish they made it in an ETOH-based spray at EdP levels.

I love this. Resinous, woody, subtly spiced. Castile soap vibes. Longevity is fantastic for a fragrance oil.

Sometimes you just want to smell like a spooky old church. 10/10

Kuumba Made’s Frankincense & Myrrh is a lovely autumn evening fragrance with a new agey mystic twist— or headshop incense one, or that of a Catholic church— whatever floats your boat. In my opinion it’s more hippie than priest, and not quite the perfect analogue to real frankincense and myrrh. The roll-on oil smells strongly resinous, musky, and quite spicy sweet. It’s warm and cozy with a certain woodiness and a bit of a vanilla note as well. Very light smokiness. And while it’s not distracting nor front and center, it is also slightly soapy. There’s an air of religiosity in the fragrance, yes, but also nonconformity. A Catholic woman runs off to the free-love commune (although I’d also add it works well as a gender neutral fragrance). A tarot card reading behind the curtains at the inconspicuous metaphysical store downtown while you’re on vacation. I like it, but it definitely doesn’t work for every occasion.

Standing at the marble font early for Saturday evening mass so you can go out partying later. You get incense, the starchy, slightly over ironed burnt scent of vestments and wooden pews. If the mood strikes and you suddenly want to smell like a Catholic Church, this is a good option. More on the masculine side. Lacks frivolity, sweetness and mirth. It isn't playful. Smells like a religious authority figure you don't want to cross or a strict private school headmaster. It also reminds me of 80's goths, who mostly did not wear perfume but smelled of the incense they burned in their old-house attic apartments before everything was upgraded to boring conformity. People used to have tiny 1940's kitchens with wood floors and steps leading to a fire escape. Students and artists could rent a place for like four hundred dollars. Their clothes smelled like incense or cigarettes or both.

Sharp citrus, spicy, resinous, medicinal, a bit smoky. Dense and sparkly, deeply pigmented sweet balsam syrup with a bitter astringency. The olibanum is strong, the myrrh is toned down by comparison. The base is powdery and musky with vanilla and a woodiness, it has a bit of a soapy undertone. One of the best ambers from the brand. Not catholic church (Tunisian Frankincense) or headshop hippie (Tunisian Patchouli). Frankincense & Myrrh is Youth Dew's clean beauty-loving, crunchy, independent business-supporting niece. "Amber & Myrrh" is similar, but it's sweeter, more myrrh forward, with a definite pine, conifer type note. "Tunisian Frankincense" is even less sweet, colder, spicier, smokier, more astringent & medicinal.

This is a sweet, slightly spicy scent with a fizzy vibe. It reminds me a bit of Coca Cola, but that's just in the opening of the scent. Towards the heart and the drydown I can detect the frankincense, which gives the scent that lovely incensy church smell. But the sweetness still lingers an keeps the scent from being too spiritual and serious. I kind of miss the myrrh though. It might be the myrrh that gives the scent that fizzy feeling, but it still doesen't smell like real, slightly bitter and incensy myrrh. But still a lovely scent that I really like to wear. Longevity is 7-8 hours and sillage is medium.

I grew up Catholic and one of my favorite smells from childhood is the incense burned in Catholic mass during special occasions. This smell is incredibly similar to that and I love it! It's wonderful. I've been using it more by smelling the bottle for its soothing quality and for the pleasant feelings it evokes than as a perfume.

These roll-ons are really good. I was surprised at how good, sniffing them at Whole Foods (before covid) and expecting them to not be good. I like this one and the amber and myrrh one...some of the others aren’t as good or are very weak, but these two scents are good (and very similar).

A little sweeter than I expected - ambery with warm spice. I was hoping it would be more dry and Smokey. Maybe I can layer this with my dry woody scented when I want some sweetness or some simple vanillas

Just got this in the mail yesterday. Best description I can give-head shop hippie oil. A bet on the sweet side, not as resinous as I would like. It's just OK to me, not great, but OK.

A yummy incensy scent, like root beer incense. I bet if I layer it with vanilla it’ll actually perfectly be root beer incense...

I tested this oil while at a health food store today. There is a big frangipani note in this. It's that generic incense-headshop smell. Back in my 20's I would've rocked this. It's not a bad fragrance at all. Smells pleasant and has a hippie/yoga enthusiast/pothead vibe going on. At first I found it cloying but after it settled into my skin the frangipani mellowed nicely. The myrrh is much more pronounced than the frankincense. I might buy this one day.

I bought this for the Christmas season a while back, as it seemed appropriate. But the resins were just so incredibly sharp, strong, and soapy-sweet that my gut reaction was a slight headache and an unsettled stomach. I probably just don't have a great tolerance for such high doses of resin without something to dilute the effect. Anyway, I gave this away as a Christmas gift...

Uff da, this one is a lot. Heavy headshop vibes. I’ll admit, I don’t know what frankincense or myrrh smell like on their own, but I get a heavy, resinous, smoky wood, with plenty of Kuumba’s fluffy, powdery, musky base. Ultimately a scrubber for me, but it’s strong and would last well.

Kuumba Made Frankincense & Myrrh: Not very much in the way of olibanum or myrrh here, to my nose I am getting cinnamon, vanilla, florals and amber. Strength and longevity are insane (16+ hours on skin, Heaven forbid this gets on your clothes...) but it’s a sickly sweet, cloying, headache inducing mess. Unwearable Kuumba Made Sudanese Frankincense (not in database): This stuff smells a lot better. Olibanum is detectable in the mix with it’s pine feeling. Unfortunately there is still a lot of cinnamon and amber sweetening it up, but a quick dab or two is admittedly moderately pleasant. Both oils caused my skin to break out, first wearing in a rash, second wearing with small bumps. I had to throw them in the trash.

Smells as cheap as it is, very overpowering. Reminds me of an old scented eraser, or a decaying soap on your grandmas shelf. Caramelised iodine. Headache inducing. Oversweet and acrid, sharp. Somehow both shallow and heavy, synthetic smelling. Very much the smell of a hippie health store and not in a pleasant way. Cloying. I use it as a layering scent together with yuzu, which improves it a little (at least until the citrus fades, five minutes later...) It does give me a mild allergy rash but I have sensitive skin. VERY long lasting, both in the sense that you have to put on absolutely minimal amounts and in the sense of longevity of wear.
