Lavender Lace

Time to bust out the big guns and heap praise upon this overlooked, inexpensive gem. Not the antimicrobial, aromatic, somewhat bitter and cold "English lavender" of linen drawers and cleaning products the world over. That lavender, the lavender most imagine when they think "lavender". No, not at all. Instead... We're treated to the dreamy, idyllic variety. Touches of rosemary and sage in the top, but this is that rare and wonderful caramellic, floral, softly herbal, powdery, "French" lavender. As Lavender Lace progresses, it transitions to a soft iris-y floral with a deliciously tempting, creamy, fluffy, powdery vanilla-musk base. You may catch yourself drooling if you allow your mind to wander. I must confess: I've never been a fanatic for lavender. It's certainly a great home scent, but I rarely reach for lavender perfumes. This one though. ...It is phenomenal. It's like being wrapped in the arms of one you trust. All warmth and softness, utterly cozy, comforting, calming. Lavender Lace fills a massive void in my collection. I ache for French lavender, and the modern formulas of Jicky and Caron Homme simply don't do the material justice. Easily the best perfume from Kuumba Made, and it's certainly my favorite. I've never wanted to eat lavender before. Now, I get cravings on the regular. I'm buying the large bottle as soon as I burn through this $10 rollie. If the famous, referential lavenders of the French maisons smell a bit flat, thin, and metallic for your liking (ashamed to admit), I urge you to test KM Lavender Lace. It's a much more enveloping, well rounded experience. I'm no chemist, but the formula is quite literally a deep purple color. It looks and smells as though there is a high concentration of natural materials within the blend. As such, it doesn't have the best longevity... at this price point, I'm willing and able to buy and reapply throughout the day. If you love naturalistic lavenders, especially French lavender, you will be pleasantly surprised with and potentially love Kuumba's Lavender Lace.

Linear silky lavender, a hint of musk, and natural-smelling vanilla on my skin. Another scent that feels comforting from Kuumba Made. I purchased the sample from them directly, and will buy the rollerball if I ever use up the small vial. It sorta smells like fancy hand soap, but in a good way, and it blossoms out from my skin in a nice way. The musk and vanilla keep it from getting too astringent, as lavender can sometimes be. I am surprised that neither are listed as notes since they are both most definitely there. I thought I'd like to layer this with KM's Vanilla Musk or other oil-based perfumes that I have, but for right now I like it plenty on its own.

lovely musky lavender!! starts off with a realistic lavender note (think essential oil) that dries into a vanillic, musky floral. super comforting but also brisk and energizing at the same time. the dry down is the most interesting part to me; there's like the waxiness that all candles have but it also smells cozy and warm like dryer sheets and laundry. even just a couple dabs of the oil on my pulse points makes it project like CRAZY and I can smell it on myself all day. genuinely one of my favorite lavender frags.

Ok I will say that I feel like the lavender part fades away pretty fast, but I also love the sweet, vanilla-y musky scent that replaces it so I'm not too upset. I get how that could be disappointing to someone expecting a straightforward lavender scent, though. I've been wearing this for about 2 hours and that sweetness really kicked in like an hour ago, and I'm totally into it.

One of my most comforting fragrances. Not cleaning product lavender. This gem has the perfect balance of herbal nuances that make this lavender interesting. I have the rollerball and admit I keep it handy in my purse in case of blood pressure raising traffic jams. It's a steal for the quality of the juice.

Oh my wow! Is this lovely. Goes on with a very true lavender note, which melts quickly into a powdery, slightly sweet, vanilla-lavender scent that lasts for hours! It is a great scent for a warm summer night. Somehow both comforting and seductive at once. Love, love, loveeeee!

I mostly get a powdery, creamy vanilla scent. It’s beautiful but I don’t get lavender in any sense large-enough-to-pinpoint. Dudes will hate me for this, but it smells a lot like Dior Homme Intense to me, hahaha!!!!

Doesn’t smell like lavender at all, but it smells like my grandma’s house did on laundry day. Top notch nostalgia bait. Very sunny day or cozy evening, just very comfy and nice.

Smells like lavender incense to me! So warm and comforting. I wear it to bed every night with a little bit of sorce's moon magic and its a combo made in heaven!!

A very sweet, almost sugary floral that loses the herbal lavender zing after an hour or so. To me this is one of the Kuumba Made fragrances that smells less like a stereotypical “hippie shop” smell and more like a modern perfume. I like it, it feels quite feminine and approachable...this is from someone who really loves Wind Dancer, Water Lily, and Arabian Rose but can’t stomach the strong resins, especially blends with a lot of myrrh or patchouli.

So I don't know how I feel about this one. I made a rookie mistake, and after a solid decade+ of testing fragrances I should know so much better than to do what I'm about to say I did. I uncapped the rollerball, sniffed it 2 times, and then decided I liked the scent. This was wrong. I guess I had it in my mind that this was "just an oil," so it would be fairly linear. No no no. I must have also assumed that since it was "natural or whatever," what you smell is what you get. Wrong. This fragrance has a very distinct evolution despite it's unassuming format. And I messed up. (It's not as if I could have actually tested it in the store anyway, for hygienic reasons, so I have to forgive myself for this oversight. But still.) Lavender Lace starts off with a crisp and zesty English lavender note, backed with something lightly sweet and almost lemony. Very fresh, with just enough soft sweetness to keep things smooth so that the lavender doesn't do that herbal screeching thing it sometimes does. I really liked it and I ignored all the other Kuumba Made offerings and just walked off to finish my shopping with Lavender Lace in tow. But when I got home and applied it to my wrists, I realized that this is NOT the fragrance I thought it was. Once on my skin the lavender all but vanished within the first minute, leaving behind not even the trail you could get from using a lavender bar of soap. That was disappointing in itself, but what really disturbed me was the sudden uprising of extremely sweet vanilla and VERY prominent musk. It went from smelling very natural and polite and balanced, to something very loud and sort of fraudulent. Like your everyday, drugstore floral musk bomb, poorly masquerading as a delicate $80/ounce elixir. It also suddenly smelled very "dated." Somewhere between a late 90s Mature Evening perfume, and an early 2000s Teeny Bopper, I cannot explain it. I think the musk was giving grown folks vibes while the sugary sweetness was bringing me back to high school body sprays. I don't know. All I did know was that it was hitting all these weirdly incongruent trend notes at the same time so that I couldn't figure out when or where I'm supposed to wear this, OR even pinpoint anyone else in my life I could offer it to instead. But...here's why I say "I don't know how I feel" about this fragrance. After a couple of HOURS the scent relaxed and settled into something very warm and creamy, just lightly dusted with a lavender infused powdered sugar. It's very pretty, very delicate, very clean but with a hint of glowing skin. After applying it all over my arms and shoulders, Lavender Lace had me smelling like I'd taken a nice, long soak in a bath full of bubbles, dried off with a fresh, warm towel, applied some kind of super rich lotion before bed, and then steeped in my own body heat until morning. Weirdly specific, I know. But actually not at all unpleasant, very subdued, and incredibly unpretentious. Lastly, I'd just like to add that this stuff was still readily detectable (as a skin scent) over 20 hours later. Just as warm and soft and comforting as a hug from a pleasantly plump grandmother who may or may not even be related to you. Again, stupid specific. I don't know what to tell you, I already said I don't know how I feel about this one. But I definitely don't hate it.

Kuumba truly shines with their one note fragrances. Vanilla Bean, Arabian Rose and Frankincense & Myrrh for example are absolutely divine and exactly what they say on the tin. Unfortunately this was my first fragrance oil from Kuumba that disappointed me. There's too much going on here, causing it to smell like cheap lavender perfume rather than just lavender. I would love to see their take on a more stripped back, herbal lavender oil. This simply wasn't that.

Sweet, powdery, laundryesque, earthy lavender. This does NOT smell like real lavender. I have plenty of lavender essential oils and live around several varieties of the plants. It’s not bad, but not natural. I’m sure some would love it, but I’m looking for something that smells like just-crushed buds.

I am not a fan of lavender so have avoided it in perfumes. Got to try this from a giveaway I recently won on here. At first it is very sharp, medicinal, and yes cheap. It does smell a lot like laundry products. But as it dries down it eventually becomes deliciously sweet like a lavender candy. Super cute and fits the name perfectly. I have been wearing it to bed and can still smell it on my arm the next day. Overall don't care for this but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and may check out more Kuumba Made scents.

In theory, this should’ve been a winner, but it turned out to be a quick scrubber and was on my skin for less than 10 minutes. I generally like my lavenders dry and borderline soapy, with Mon Guerlain being an exception of a sweet lavender that I really like. This is just so cloyingly sweet and powdery. There is a similarity in that both this and MG feature sweeter, vanillic lavenders, but MG is so well balanced and much softer. Lavender Lace is really sharp. Its loud, sweet, powder notes immediately reminded me of Stila’s Crème Bouquet. I may try it again one day, because, like I said, this should be a home run.

A while ago I looked for this scent on Fragrantica to review, and today I find it has been added. Well done, Fragrantica staff! :D This proved a perfect addition to my mom's purse. It is revitalizing and energizing for the first few minutes, a delightful pick-me-up while up and about. Then the scent becomes comforting and musky. The Jovan original style of musk, if possibly sweeter. My mom dislikes talcum powder scent - this is not that. The powder/musk/vanilla dry down is the kind of powder I associate with gourmands and vanilla based scents, not baby powder. Charming and utterly appropriate for this use. If you are looking for a sharp and undiluted lavender, try lavender essential oil. This is a simple and comforting rendition, suitable for any age. It would also be delightful on the bed side stand. If you wish for a more sophisticated, less sweetened, lavender perfume, consider Burberry Rhythm for her. It lasts and lasts and lasts and... you get the idea. Also, musk based, but in this case rather linear in scent throughout, and the musk is the clean, dry sheets variety. Happy sniffing, lavender lovers! <3

This is a really nice lavender oil; very comparable to Scent by the Sea's Morpheus scent, which is a dark lavender and vanilla concoction. I like this scent, and it has great longevity. I will say, however--I prefer Morpheus to this one. This scent has started to remind me of Desitin diaper rash ointment....eesh. Not sure what it is about it, but I can't stop thinking about this when I smell it!! However, for a lavender lover, I think this would be a favorite :)

Sadly this has that hippie/mature feel to it😣😔 I was embarrassed to be smelling like this after testing in a store! But the dry down after a few hours is awesome, it's a very clean and modern musk. For a more modern version consider Floral Lavender by Dossier

Lavender with a hint of sweetness, I think from the carrier oil (almond?). It was pleasant but not as herbal, fresh and clean as I like; the oil made it go warm and fleshy which is ok, but not for lavender. Longevity of the lavender, 3 hours. Low sillage.
