Blixt

There is the claim that negative ions are odorless, but I swear that I smell them. I had a light box that I used during the shorter days of the year and it featured a negative ion generator and when I'd get close, I could detect this aroma that I've only ever detected where there was running water, like a bubbling brook or a waterfall. The closest I can compare it to is when you open the door to the outside and let fresh air in. It's close to that, but also smells sort of like static (I've somehow smelled that, too). If you were old enough to be around tube televisions as a kid, and for some reason you decide to get very, VERY close to the screen, and you feel that static electricity, there is also a smell. It turns out this is the smell of ozone created by the electrostatic discharge. This is the ionization of air molecules along the spark path. Then of course there is now heavily romanticized scent of petrichor: those first drops of rain on dry earth, or even the odor given off when stones are dampened, say along a river. Blixt is all of the above and more. The usage of geosmin in perfume requires precision. Because it is so powerful, "too little" is impossible. "Too much," however, is quite easy. Geosmin can be detected by a human at concentrations less than 10 parts per trillion. This is the equivalent of one teaspoonful in 200 Olympic swimming pools. As you can imagine, it must be heavily diluted prior to usage in perfumery. In Blixt, it is used in perhaps the most effective manner I have experienced in a personal fragrance. It is perfect. Blixt (Swedish for flash of lightning) really is like lightning in a bottle, to be diffused on skin so that the wearer can personify earth, water, air, and electricity, all at once. There is the rush of that somewhat musty earth, moistened by millions of raindrops, coruscating light through the misty atmosphere in far off woodlands. It does not smell clean in the usual sense when it comes to scent, but neither does it smell dirty. It really is outside of the notions of either. It's really outside the notions of what makes a perfume, because it smells more like phenomena—and that is precisely its splendor.

I bought the discovery set LA Bruket and initially I either got nose blind or wasn’t properly moisturised because I felt the longevity was not up to scratch. I tried it again on a warmer day (15 degrees) and it stayed on for about 5 hours on my skin. The scent profile I felt was unusual (I’m new to fragrances) it was slightly peppery and there was like an atmospheric element as well. It’s a non-traditional freshie.

Super random but I was in a perfume store before going to the movie theater to watch Backrooms. While trying to pick out what perfume would reflect that vibe, I came across this one. Immediately put this on my skin and went with it. Honestly, in a mass of some pretty mainstream perfumes this completely caught my attention. Dusty, smells kind of like the city and asphalt after rainfall. Dries down a bit sweet but it's very hard to put my finger on it. Incredibly interesting!
