Norwegian Wood

The best melancholy, rainy day companion. Fresh rose petals pressed through the steel strings of a well-loved guitar. The floaty-full bouquet of an honest single-malt. Perfectly round incense, no sharp edges. All wrapped up in clean musk, oak, cashmir and sandalwood. A velvety smooth blend. Sometimes, I wish Norwegian Wood were louder, but that wouldn't be true to the source material. It's intimate and sheer, yet so powerful. It tends to tease out the nostalgic optimist in you. Like running your memories through a sepia filter; even the worst tragedy somehow appears poetic and somberly beautiful. If you love Murakami's book (like I do), this is a safe blind buy. I found exactly what I was looking for in both. And having spent over three years with this scent, there's nothing to get tired of here.

i got this at their shop in brooklyn and it’s now one of my favorite fragrances! norwegian wood is my favorite book, so I likely would have purchased it anyway but I am so glad that I really liked it. it’s subtle and clean but also unusual and delicious. up close, I can smell the whiskey and paper on my skin, but from afar it just smells bright, cold, sweet, and soft. i’ve been told that it just smells like me and when I entered, the air just smelled really nice. if you think of yourself as a cute and unusual woman, love norwegian wood, like the smell of a glass of whiskey, or gravitate towards scents like thé matcha 26 by le labo, this is a safe blind buy

Very weak unfortunately. I do love the smell though so if you're well off financially or don't like strong scents this will be perfect for you especially as I don't find the "metallic rose" and whiskey overpowering! In fact, I can't stand even the slight smell of blood so I'm shocked considering this rose is supposed to metallic and I the whiskey is as strong (or in my opinion as weak) as La Vie Est Belle. I know people say La Vie Est Belle is supposedly strong but it really isn't so if you're considering buying that, just buy any other flanker instead of the original so you can actually smell them haha

Nice whisky-rose fragrance. Very delicate and rounded. Something in the dry-down reminds me of lipstick but I didn’t see any mention of iris being in this. Rosy musky iris with a bit of whiskey in the dry-down. Cannot say this is a good tribute to the book as it’s on my list of Murakamis to read! Wish this fragrance was a bit louder Fragrantica pls add more la folies!

Strange. A slightly peachy, soapy, bubbly start; at the same time very floral, pink, bouquet, very 90s-2000s. Not at all what I was expecting. I don't really get woody or smoky, nor is it a smell of the outdoors. Rather, I'm getting a very intimate bathroom scent, with notes that are a little dessert-like, sweet. What follows is a little resinous, maybe even lily of the valley, a very bodily, indescribable scent that adds a little life to the picture. But: it's still a kind of couch creation, cashmere scarf, lips resting on a mug by the fire, slightly oversteeped tea bag... not a hike in the Norwegian forests. It's bright, well-set, and as always, Mark Buxton knows his stuff. But for my part, I'm not getting any je-ne-sais-quoi here. It may appeal to others, but I'll pass on this one.

This is not actually the scent I ordered from Folie À Plusieurs...I double-checked my receipt a dozen times in the past few days just because I always assume I am the one who is mistaken or wrong... but you know what? I’m okay with receiving what I got, and regardless of what I ordered, I like this a lot. Maybe more than I would have liked the one I actually wanted! Norwegian Wood is inspired by the Haruki Murakami novel of the same name, but I read that so long ago that I don’t recall a thing about it, so that’s not going to factor into my thoughts. So. While I do love the scent of a heavily wooded hinterland or an ominous evergreen Mirkwood Forest midnight--basically, a syrupy resinous coniferous balsamic dirge of a scent (think Norne from Slumberhouse or Dasein Winter Nights) this is...not that. Or, well, it’s sort of that, but remove all those associations with darkness, shadows, and the macabre. Rather than the Huntsman chasing a terrified Snow White into the gloomy woods, this is instead the contentment of Snow White in a sun-dappled forest glade, surrounded by woodland creatures, a soft trembling faun on her lap, and a little bluebird perched on her finger. It’s the scent of weathered branches and leaves fluttering in the breeze, sticky sap and damp creeping moss, the faint sweetness of wildflowers crushed under your feet, the rosy golden musk of a sunbeam on your skin; it’s all of that, but it’s not overly sentimental or twee. It's the sheer, gauzy summer halo of a winter haunted forest emerging from a deep sleeping curse.
