The Virgin Suicides

When I first got a sample of this about a year ago, I immediately hated it. It felt cheap, like Love's Baby Soft or old lady perfume from drug stores. I just kind of expected the sample was just going to hang out in my room forever, never getting used. But I randomly decided to put it on today, and what a shame that I discovered how pretty it is so late. It's not just some knockoff of cheap perfume for '70s era teenagers: there is a really picturesque, transformative quality to it. It does smell like going into an old house and thinking about who used to live there, and what a special and unique smell that is. Lipstick becomes smoke becomes dust. It's so evocative. Too bad I waited until it went out of production to figure that out.

Just posting this for anyone who didn’t know. Mark brought this back in the The Virgins under Moth and Rabbit. That was also discontinued — or so we thought. I decided to be a little stalkery and reach out to ask if we’ll ever get one of them back. As it turns out, it’s been here all along and was renamed. Heads up to those of you mourning Virgins/Virgin Suicides. I reached out to ask if we’ll ever get them back through M&R or Folie. Here’s the response. “We do have The Virgins; however, the perfume has been renamed. It is now called Dreamers, and the formula remains exactly the same. Best wishes, Dominik” So if you’re missing The Virgin Suicides/The Virgins, just buy Dreamers from Moth and Rabbit (Mark Buxton, of course).

I went through a period of time, of mainly wearing this beauty. It's so lovely.... it's powdery and nostalgic, but with some electricity running through it. It's like a young girl playing with her mom's makeup and perfume. I always hoped Mark Buxton would bring this back. Update: The Virgins is now sold by Moth and Rabbit Parfums!!

Wow I love this! A woodsy, powdery, resinous iris. Don't get much aldehydes, it is gorgeous. Sweet but only slightly, very unisex, myrrh is not vintage smelling it is simply resinous. Gorgeous! Love. May just use up this sample too. Geranium is strong in this one, almost rosey feel.

I am virgin but no suiside. How do I seperate. I want to smell like death but not actually finish the job on myself.

just a random update: this smells so perfect. I couldn't ask for it to be better in any way. After 1 year I finally got a sample. Being my favorite book growing up I have been looking forward to it. It wasn't as violet as I expected in the pure violet manner, not metallic like I was expecting. It's more soft-less sharp, but indeed sad. More soapy than metallic, which I would rather not have in a violet. So upon second wearing, I am getting much more powder (less soapy) than the previous day, when I wore a little less. Its really emotional and a grand violet, powder lipstick perfume. It just doesn't feel like the description Buxton offers. The more I wear this the more I really do feel connected to the book. I have to say, I am impressed. However, that is probably some psychological dissonance as I love the book so much.
