Nuit a Salzbourg / Vanille Tabac

Sweet, Spicy & Woody TOBACCO with VANILLA, Cloves, Cinnamon & Precious Woods. In the first couple of minutes I can feel the tobacco & vanilla when I sniff my wrist. As the sillage starts to open up, I get a swirl of sweet & warm spices including clove, cinnamon & anise, and the vanilla & tobacco are swelling through. As it transitions to the heart I get some beautiful woody facets and some pine-y balsamics with a hint of citrus from amyris. This doesn't get nearly as fruity as scents like Tobacco Vanille Tom Ford, or Amber Oud Tobacco Edition Al Haramain, but in the base you get some faint hints of near-cherry and soft tobacco-blossom nuances from tonka, although tonka is less forward than the notes would suggest. Amber & labdanum here in the base hold everything together. Reviewers have got it right with the rankings for top notes imho: tobacco, vanilla, cloves, cinnamon & precious woods. A few hours into the drydown, there's a lingering sweaty cashmeran note on the skin that won't be for everyone but it's somewhat disguised by sweet & spicy notes. This has amazing performance for year round wear, but the sweet & spicy profile is best suited to fall & winter or chilly nights. Contrast to Tobacco Vanille Tom Ford: These are different, but there are similarities with tobacco & vanilla. The sweet & spicy facets of tobacco are done in a very similar way, but Tobacco Vanille has a more forward dried fruity facet of tobacco. Both have excellent performance. Contrast to Amber Oud Tobacco Edition Al Haramain: These are different, but there are again similarities with tobacco & vanilla. Amber Oud Tobacco Edition is a dupe of Tobacco Vanille Tom Ford and so it also has a more forward dried fruity facet of tobacco. All three have excellent performance. Contrast to Zaharoff Signature Tabac: These are different, but I find this more similar to Nuit à Salzburg than Tobacco Vanille Tom Ford. There are similarities with sweet & spicy tobacco with woody facets. Zaharoff Signature Tabac has honey instead of vanilla and requires dark storage after first sprays to develop performance. Overall: gorgeous sweet, spicy & woody vanilla & tobacco scent with excellent performance. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

The performance on this is out of this world. I recently purchased a clutch of samples from this house and dabbed a spot of Nuit a Salzbourg on the back of one hand. It opens fairly clove heavy but that gorgeous Maison vanilla was already evident. Some time later I was struck by a beautiful smell, and at first thought I might have a lingering scent on my clothing. But that tiny spot was simply radiating, a lusciously smooth, smoky heat. The lashings of vanilla and tonka may make this too sweet for those with more masculine taste but I love the warmth of this, it smells like edible smoke.

Nails the tobacco aspect of TF Tobacco Vanille but misses the vanilla. Very similar to Zara Warm Black. Smells full and warm in the air but thinner and rather metallic close to the skin. Wants a bit more performance, depth, amber and patchouli to be a completely satisfying dupe, in my opinion, but that's easily fixed with a base layer of Amber Absolute or Kuumba Amber Paste. Considering that 100ml of TFTV retails for nearly $400 and I picked up my bottle of Nuit a Salzbourg for around $40, I'll make it work.

I have a fair amount of Tom Ford Tabacco Vanille dupes or fragrances that smell similar, and this one is probably the closest of all that I own. I would say that this is a slightly less sharp and a fraction more feminine of a version. Although, it is still definitely absolutely unisex. Only that when I compare TFTV next to this, I find this leans slightly more feminine. If that makes sense? It isn't quite the same power house as TFTV either, although it still hold its own. And it maybe has a little less going on. Less depth than TFTV. Or maybe it is just that it settles quicker into that lovely cozy vanilla and tobacco that makes me feel sleepy and want to snuggle up with a blanket and a good book. TFTV goes through more stages before settling into that lovely dry down. Which maybe makes me reach for this one more, as the dry down is my favorite part of both fragrances and since this one gets me there faster, when my TFTV runs out, I may not repurchase and just keep getting this one instead. (I don't know though, because TFTV projects and lasts for days and days on my clothing, so maybe not) Often I will spray my top or jacket an hour before putting it on and heading out with Tom Ford, where as with Nuit à Salzbourg, I can spray directly onto my outfit I'm wearing and get that addictive scent almost immediately. And come on, $65? You just can't beat that price. I can't believe I'm saying this but I think maybe like this one better.

This one smells like moist tobacco, with vanilla and maybe a hint of cinnamon and powder on top. I can definitely see the resemblance to Tom Ford's Tobacco vanille however i much prefer Tobacco Vanille which has more cinnamon. This one isn't as sharp and is definitely more powdery. It doesn't appear to have all the layers that Tobacco vanille has. It is nice but not amazing for me. I will stick to TF TV which has more character and nicer bottle but i wouldn't want to put anyone off because it is nice, and a cheaper alternative.

A very sweet, sticky tobacco with enough spice to warm it up. No smoke/ash/burnt notes. The opening is a bit brash with a blast of spice but it smooths out nicely in under 10 minutes. Round, full, rich fragrance that reminds me of rum raisins and bread pudding. Wood notes in the base make this very wearable and the tabacco keeps it just out of gourmand territory. A sweet woody scent. Perfectly unisex, if you're into this style. UPDATE I started noticing the labdanum in the far dry down. That is a note some love for it's richness but on me it tends to be overbearing. Decluttered. Someone else will enjoy this much more than I.

Very clove and tobacco, not vanilla enough for my nose. I got a 1 mL sample if anyone wants to try.

I was curious about this one, after having seen a comparison to Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille somewhere. For me it's a very good 'copy' of Tobacco Vanille. It has the sharp clove smell that I associate with TV, along with the cinnamon, tobacco and vanilla. I could live with this as a replacement for TV but for one thing, something that is common to all the clones and smell-a-likes; longevity. The longevity of Nuit a Salzbourg is decent (around 6 hours for me), but it cannot compare to Tobacco Vanille (that's still going strong after 12 hours).

Wow! on mi skin this is even nicer than TF Tobacco Vanille! you get the same fine, seductive tobacco notes but it is a little bit sweeter, and a tad more spicy with the cinnamon, clove, sweet amber and Labdanum! what a nice surprise! I think this is a little more fluffy and smooth. I just have a sample for now...but.. this is full bottle worthy if you like that profile of scent.
