Cologne Rare

Appreciate this spring-summer fragrance a little bit more with each wearing...an uber-sour but dry citrus aromatic...the rhubarb leaves listed by manufacturer really are quite evident and actually help make this fragrance quite unique from the plethora of other citrus based warm weather fragrances out there currently ...absolutely zero hints of anything citronella-ish, which IMO is a huge plus ...and most importantly, no hints whatsoever of anything similar to citrus-scented dishwashing liquid! ...I'm really starting to love this stuff ...quality ingredients & quality blending...a fab little spring-summer gem that I've absolutely no regrets blindly buying ...one of my absolute spring-summer faves.

Cologne Rare was released in 2014 and aims to convey a breath of bergamot and basil. The concept talks about the search for a shadow, which is produced by a stone vault of a Dungeon under the scorching sun. Once again, historic architecture, medieval castles and fragrances get together. The composition brings notes of bergamot from Calabria and Basil from Egypt, at the top; rhubarb, in the heart; patchouli, Haitian vetiver and wood notes, in the base. Still, it has those common chemical compounds, such as Geraniol, Limonene and Citral, which enhance floral and citrus aspects in perfumes, besides Eugenol (clove oil) and Coumarin. The perfumer, Carla Chabert, states that she has chosen this type of bergamot, because of its spicy and lavender nuances, as well as the vetiver from Haiti, with its smoky-leathery facets. On the skin, the fragrance of Cologne Rare is more luminous than that of Cologne Noble. The aroma of bergamot comes to seem acid, for being so natural. It has the same smell when we cheer or pull the peels off, separating them from the pulp. The Basil is known for strengthen the citrus features of fresher fragrances and can result in green, spicy and even aniseed nuances. And it was this aspect of anise that was explored by the creator. But the biggest secret of Cologne Rare, in my opinion, is the rhubarb, with its green and tart aroma, almost metallic. In fact, scents with this note tend to please me a lot. Finally, the base is slightly Woody, but anything that compromises the aromatic behavior of the fragrance. By the way, if the nuance of vetiver was more smoky-leathery, as quoted by the perfumer, the result would be better. The patchouli also deserved more prominence, in my opinion. Cologne Rare is unisex and has a strong output, with great projection and natural aspect. Just as happened with Cologne Noble, lasted about 6 hours on my skin, which is very positive for a fragrance made with noble and natural ingredients. To end this review, I quote a phrase used by the company, which I liked a lot: "bergamot collides with Basil; peel meets leaf”.
