Midnight Rain

I am having a very passionate love affair with Midnight Rain. I used to live in Switzerland 2006-2008 and I remember running into this in the duty free one summer when it had first been released. I smelled it and instantly loved it, but it was so expensive. I was in grad school at the time and had very little money to be throwing around so I had to make do with a couple of duty free sprays for my enjoyment during the flight back home for the summer. Ten years later and the scent stayed with me stored back there somewhere in my memory. I found it for a pretty decent price recently and I simply had to go for it. A decision I do not regret. Not only does this smell amazing but it has the power to transport me back in time, to some of the best most carefree days of my life. That alone is priceless. To the scent. This is patchouli done to perfection. You can definitely smell it in there but it smells GOOD. I'm not a patchouli fan in general, but in this I not only tolerate, I love it. It mixes so well with the vanilla orchid and guava. I can definitely also smell the plum blossom and pomegranate. This is kind of sweet but not overly so, cause the patchouli grounds everything, but this is not a dirty patchouli. MR is a deep scent but still kinda fresh at the same time, if that is possible. I would wear this either day or night, spring, summer, fall and winter. You could say that it has a little bit of a tropical vibe to it, because of the guava, but it still smells classy. I find this to be a seductive scent, sexy even. It is unlike anything I personally have ever smelled before and it stands the test of time, for sure. It does not smell outdated in the least. Very few people wear this where I live cause it's kind of hard to get a hold of so for me it is absolutely signature worthy. It has everything I love in a scent, sweetness, freshness, floral-fruity-woody notes, good staying power and a dash of mysterious. People will be asking you what that amazing perfume is. I'm grateful to have been reunited with this old love of mine :)

So, I am a ridiculously picky perfume shopper. I was on an epic hunt for scents last year, hoping to defeat my notion that there just weren't any mass-produced perfumes out there for me. It's not that I'm a snob. I just think I have a super narrow palette. I wonder how much of the issue is how perfumes are stored/displayed in stores; I have to assume the heat of the lights in the display cases isn't good for the integrity of the fragrances, and I am often put off by the alcohol smell. Anyhow, when I came across Midnight Rain, I was thrilled. I spritzed it on a sample card and took it home. I kept it on my makeup table and sniffed it excitedly, knowing I had finally found a keeper. I waited for my birthday to ask for it (because as many have noted, it's pricey!) What I realize now that I own it is that what I fell in love with was the soft drydown that lingered on the card. It's gentle and a little creamy; comforting. And quite a contrast to the opening and middle notes. I like the opening luscious fruity notes, even if they're a bit... unapologetic. The looonnng middle period jars me. It's spicy and peppery on my skin. Is this the patchouli? I have to assume it is, because I can find NOTHING in the listed middle notes that would blast my nostrils in this way. I am not a spice fan. The sillage and longevity are impressive. Unfortunately for me, this means that the middle section of that sharp peppery smell lasts far too long. I basically count down the hours until the finish... And when it gets down to that musky cashmere wood baby softness, I'm in a bliss into the next day. Oh, it's lovely. For me, Midnight Rain saves the best for last.

Wow, this is beautiful! I never tried Forbidden Euphoria, but Midnight Rain is everything I wanted Euphoria to be. It's a similar kind of scent, just much better in every aspect: Less harsh, more creamy, better use of fruity notes, more rounded. But enough with the comparisons, Midnight Rain can stand on its own! It opens like a very good tropical cocktail with luscious guava and pomegranate, both fruits I generally like a lot that aren't overused in perfumery. Patchouli is blended in nicely, it's very smooth in this fragrance. Neither sharp nor earthy or heavy. This is so lush and juicy, but at the same time warm. As it dries down, it becomes even warmer and also wonderfully creamy. The patchouli is joined by plummy blossoms, a very feminine and soft musk and the cashmere wood, a note I never gave much thought to, but it really does wonders here. Two words perfectly describe Midnight Rain: Exotic and mysterious. It could be worn in summer nights, or on grey winter days when you need something warm and cozy that makes you think of summer nights. The mixture of alluring fruits, creamy warmth and woody notes make this special and versatile. I'll definitely try to find a good deal on a bottle.

Such a surprise. When I saw the bottle design which is indeed very unique it also reminded me of a bit of a cheap idea that tries to get away with packaging. Intrigued by the mountain of reviews I got my hands on a bottle which in reality is truly amazing because it sparkles so beautifully. This scent, next to Toujours Moi and L'Iris de Fath my favorite. It starts very fruity for a few minutes. Then the flowers push to the front. The dry down is just a dream. I also smell vanilla for some reason. It is a mystical scent which you will follow with your nose and eyes if it passes you on the street. I am watching myself taking little sniffs at my wrist during the day and have to smile. It is a very refreshing, lovely sweetish scent that doesn't fly off but sticks around without being straight in your face. The dry down after half an hour stays pretty stable and it is a mix of many scents: patchouli, vanilla, musk, skin scent but fresh. Really really well done. I blind bought a used purse spray of this (7.5ml) for a ridiculously expensive price. I was intrigued by the reviews and I have to admit I was seduced by the bottle which is just amazing. This is one of those fragrances where as soon as you sniff it from the bottle, you just know it's special. Yes it has fruits and is has patchouli, but don't put it in the same class as those horrible modern fruitichoulis. No, no, this is all class. It's rich, deep, enveloping, seductive, creamy. I spray one decent spray in the morning and it lasts until bedtime and beyond. In fact my husband (who doesn't like perfumes much and has to be threatened to comment on my newest purchases) woke me up this morning and kissed me and said 'mm you smell lovely'. It is fruity and sweet but not in a chemically, cloying way. It's heart and base notes are beautifully warm and creamy. The word I would use to describe this scent is 'lush'. Quality stuff, and when my bottle runs out I will save as long as necessary to secure at least one large bottle, maybe two, in case it is ever discontinued. I have found a new love.

Magic in the bottle! Accordant to scent, even the bottle is gorgeous together with box. Mystical black bottle in the water drop shape, all covered with glitters that shines strongly, in its simplicity it will still be the most striking bottle on the shelf. Scent very rich, greatly rounded, I get mostly combination of fruity notes and flowers with patchouli as undernote wich makes it more stable. Many users say that they get ecstatic feeling sniffing this perfume, which tells that composition is real masterpiece. The price for this scent has always been high, even then when it was available, nowdays it's very very rare and it's logical to be pricey, but when we look objectively and compare Midnight Rain price with prices of many niche and indie perfumes, which are usually much higher than Midnight Rain price, we could say that the price is absolutely realistic, here you get super rarity and one of the most desired women's perfumes ever, otherwise niche perfumes that are even more expensive are only one more in the row...

Knowing the price, I wish I did not like it so much. I wishI could say it is awful and move on. But it is the third or fourth time I am sampling this one, and Midnight Rain never fails at captivating my nose. Although from the bottle I expected something heavier, Midnight Rain is fleeting and light. Very hard to describe- if I was looking for poetic metaphors, I might be talking about a skin bushed by silk or something alike. MR is very delicate. The woody-tropical notes are so prominent here, it is probably the first fragrance that really smells of exotic fruit without being sweet, playful and Escada'ish. So tropical fruit can smell mature and classy after all! Apart from the fruit, I can smell a lot of cashmere wood and lilies, and musk brings in some powderiness. If you look for cheaper alternatives, Salvador Dali's Laguna is a distant cousin.

Scored this sealed NIB for $47 at a garage sale - I was very ambivalent on this at first. I'm now on my third wearing, I'm finding it's grown on me quite a bit. It's warm and sweet without giving me any sense that I'm risking type 2 diabetes by wearing it. It's a bit unique, I don't think I have anything in my collection quite like it. On my skin, the fruit and patchouli seem to balance out without either winning or losing a battle, and a few times I can smell the plum blossom throwing an NBA-style elbow, trying to make it's presence known. My skin devours even beast-mode scents like Dior's Midnight Poison, Mugler's Muse and YSL's Opium in 2 hours or less, but I suspect this scent performs well for most wearers, as it has all the same earmarks as others in the BIG and LOUD category (wink-wink to the Angel lovers reading this).

There are no words I could use to truly describe how enchanting and mystical this fragrance is. My partner managed to find an unused bottle for a reasonable price for my birthday, and I think my life has been changed. The initial spray is quite powdery, but a lovely floral smell pushes forward after it dries. Sweet guava is the star and is delicately carried by a smooth, caramel and patchouli base. It flows so easy on the inhale. So sweet and magical, unlike anything I've ever smelled. Don't even get me started on the packaging, I am obsessed with this bottle. This would absolutely be my signature scent if it were still in production, but I must control myself and save for special occasions. I hope to be buried with this bottle so if there is any chance at an afterlife, I can take the rest there.

Inherited this from my late, beloved Grandmother. She really got into the La Prairie line later in life. This is one of the all-time greatest, most memorable scents I've ever encountered. The sillage and longevity are both to be reckoned with, and it leaves an everlasting impression on those lucky enough to encounter it. I am not so shocked at the price, as everything from La Prairie is extravagent, if not outrageous. If you can get your hands on a sample of this, from La Prairie or Sephora, even a small vial will provide a long-lasting scent for days. Overall: Sillage: 8/10 Longevity: 9/10 Added bonus: The bottle itself is an original design, which looks great on top of your dresser drawers. My friend describes the bottle as something out of a Harry Potter book.

It's a great scent - fruity but very sophisticated. Nice bottle, amazing quality. I'd describe it as a mix of tropical flowers and fruits with musk, wood and patchouli. I naturally hate patchouli but here it adds a touch of sexy edginess. I usually don't say anything about the price but i have to say that this is WAY too expensive. OK, the skin products are worth the money, but this is ridiculous. It doesnt make the skin younger or cleaner or something, it's just a perfume!!! They're just taking the money because it's La Prairie... So, if you like warm fruity smells and money is not an issue for you - this is your ideal perfume... Since I don't get that much money this is a no-no for me... So sad, this is one of the best perfumes I've ever smelled :-(

This one is a dream. It's warm rain in a dusky forest- all those top fruit notes and musky bases everyone speaks about. The bottle itself is a work of art. It's a very nostalgic smell, and I'm sure most feel similarly, but to me, it's particularly reminiscent of my childhood. This was my mother's go-to scent, and the smell evokes memories of glimmering 2000-era dresses and sparkling dinners later in the evening than a child ever thought was possible. When she died unexpectedly two years ago, I found two unopened bottles of Midnight Rain in her dresser. What an unimaginable treasure and a completely heart-wrenching find it was. I break it out for the rarest, most special occasions, because it is truly a unique and covetable scent.

It's a lovely perfume, perfect for dark rainy days. Beautiful. And the bottle is fabulous. They are both beautiful and unforgettable. It's a beautifully blended combination of the most delicious smells - sweet and flowery, fruity and smooth as silk, a glorious experience! It's heavenly: deep, dark, sensual and completely seductive, and the midnight rain-drop bottle is STUNNING - I LOVE it!!!! I get COMPLIMENTS till the cows come home!!! Amazing how perfumes are sooo completely different on different people!!!! It's incredible. Everyone adores this on me, my husband especially...... It's one of my very favourite perfumes!!! I adore Midnight Rain!!!

I don't know what it is with this perfume. It makes me go crazy! It's so very sexy, juicy, exotic, warm, deep, alluring, sweet and bit powdery! A very charming, unique and flirty perfume for young adults aged 25-35. I imagine the colour dark purple with this perfume. I can also imagine if CK Euphoria, Flowerbomb and Vera Wang Princess had a lovechild, this would be it. I would personally say this is more like a spring and summer perfume, suited to both day and night time use, depending on what you're doing. Summer parties, icecream dates, vacations and nightclubs is what comes to mind. Too bad it's so f'ing expensive! One day, it will be mine.

I just had to copy this from the "Love at first sniff" topic for all you Midnight Rain lovers: My craziest love at first sniff (literally) was La Prairie Midnight Rain. Earlier I've been ignoring it because I thought that the price was ridiculous. Then I found myself at an airport, having lots of time to kill between the flights, so I tested the scents around. I spotted this one and was like "Well, whattahell, let's give it a try". And I had that blind prejudice: it's so not worth it. Guess what - as soon as I sprayed it I took it to the counter so solemnly and humbly and in love, as I was bringing a bride to the alter

WOUW! When I sprayed it on a paper I didn't pay attention to it, because I saw many more to try out and I was confused with other smells so I didn't notice the opening to much. When I came home, I smelled it again, and it was a wonderful scent! Now, 2 days later, it's still there. 'It' = a warm floral fruity, the way I like it. Not this piercing freshness, and not childish at all; I would even see myself wearing this in my 30ies and 40ies. Maybe I'm even to young for it now. The drydown is very typical but nice to recognize. I would like to have it in my collection, it is pricey though...

Oh my God - the name, and the bottle - tell the story!!!! It is perfect in the rain!!! It is the most aptly named and aesthetically presented perfume!!! I too discovered that it is to die for when it's cold and rainy (even during the day! Midnight is good too though!) and dark. It's my dream perfume really, because I love that weather! Dark and gloomy, cold and rainy days are thrilling! Mysterious and sensual. Hidden power. Just like this gorgeous perfume. God I love it to death!!!!! It's fabulous!!!!!

Imagine New Years eve, imagine champaign, fruits and cake. Imagine the cold night outside and the cousy fireplace inside. This is the mood that La Prairie Midnight Rain sets. There is a little bit of sweet and tropical scent but very warm, settled and crowd-friendly. Its the perfume that changes through the night and reminds you for itself in the morning-quite long-lasting. It is the perfume I got most compliments for. But it's definately a fall-winter night perfume. Not suitable for daytime.

Midnight Rain - for me the notes developed a lot better after taking a small walk out in the warm weather. The body chemistry changed this from: OK, maybe I like this to a total love. Lovely tropical fruit notes, with sweet flowers mixing with my body heat ignited this right up. The dry down is pure pleasure: musky vanilla with cashmere. Excellent summer scent and I would say easily wearable day or night. Longevity on my skin was fantastic 7+ hours and last several days on clothes.

absolutely beautiful. one of my clients was wearing this and i just had to know what it was. she told me she gets hers at nordstroms and they are almost always sold out. i can smell why. it's like the warmest, fruity, sensual smell. like expensive fruit and vanilla cashmere. this is definantly a "dressed to the nines" type of fragrance, but i would wear it everyday any how. i can just picture my self "jetsetting" in this one. tres chic!

This is totally new brand for me. So it's the first fragrance I have tried by La Prairie. I find it amazingly lovely. For me it's mostly sweet orchid and nice patchouli. A little bit of wood. I'm into sweet scents and this one I would totally love to have in my collection. I think it's not the most long lasting perfume, but I still love it. It's not overwhelming, more like calm sweet scent, even suitable for work/school.

I love the soft, spicy rose of this fragrance, and so does my fiance. It is subtle enough for day, and elegant enough for night. Granted, it's expensive but I find it worth the price. I spray it in the morning and can still smell it in the afternoon. I get some pomegranate, but don't find it overwhelmingly fruity at all. I have just a slight love affair with this perfume. It's one of the best buys I've ever made.

This and silver rain are my all time favorite fragrances. If I could only wear these two the rest of my life, I would. I absolutely love the uniqueness and the aura midnight rain gives. Sweet and warm guava. Salted caramel and patchouli. The musk. Oh these girls bring back memories. Update: I finally got a 50ml new from eBay. I will update once she’s delivered. I was curious about this perfume for awhile now and I got a chance to test it. It's a very rich fruity floral. Many of you below, either love it or hate it but this is right up my alley. It smells a little bit like DKNY Be Delicious Night and JLO Glow After Dark. I prefer this over the both of them. It's fruity, a tiny bit musky and I don't get hit with a patchouli bomb when I wear it.

Oh my god this is AMAAAAAAAZING! Too bad the price is so high. I probably never will be able to afford it :( Smells better than Flowerbomb, Coco Mademoiselle or other 'beloved by all' perfumes. This is the one that should be on the number one place of numerous top perfumes lists! Really. I want it, I need it, but I can't have it :P Nooooohhh!

I just got it for myself as a b-day present. Love at first smell. Unusual, timeless, sexy... It is not for casual use. A formal gown would be more appropriate (or at least a cocktail dress). It starts as something exotic, sophisticated, and classy. It stays intriguing for a long time and quietly goes to a comforting sweetness.

I LIKE THIS PERFUME SO MUCCH! I get tons on compliments on this, It is very sweet but not the kind that would give you a headache.. It is not similar to anything i have smelled before and it really makes you stand out, in a good way. Probably my favorite perfume so far :) and one of the sexiest perfumes i have ever smelled.

This perfume is made in heaven ! Its so unique and sexy ans sensous ! Men fall for it like crazy ! Its a very heavy scent and therefore great for evenings. Its powdery sweet and this is one of my favourites. Its a very luxurious scent and you can be sure to get alot of attention with this one. Its perfect!

I wanted Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb, but then I smelled this. It's sweet, too sweet at first, but then after about half-an hour it evens out and turns out to be a wonderful, warm perfume perfect for a night out. It's only letdown is the price, took a long time before I bought it.

I received this as a birthday gift a long time ago. I still have it, and it’s one of my all-time favorites. I really wish it hadn’t been discontinued, It's so good and such a special scent. Want to find something like this so that I can use it with good conscience.

Definitely the best I've ever had. Im puzzled why la prairie discontinued , their cellular mist was amazing ( also discontinued ). Hope some high quality brand does something similar. I've never smelled anything similar , and trust me I've tried !

This is very nicely done! Has that sexy addictive quality to it. Very luscious scent. It doesn't last very long but I don't mind respraying this baby! And the bottle doubles as a protection device to ward off criminals hahahaha

My sexiest perfume ever! So modern, tropical, juicy and luxurious, with both great opening and drydown.Fruit here are very well blended, there is nothin sharp or sickening.Give it a try, worths the money.

I won't even try to explain how exceptional this perfume was. All I can say is that if it wasn't discontinued I would never stop buying it again and again.

Delicious! I get mostly patchouli with some vanilla fruit. I really like this for Fall & Winter or a cold Spring or Summer evening.

Im in love in midnight rain ;)

I find that it's hard to write a review of the fragrances I really like. Midnight Rain is one of them. To me she is adult, elegant and dressed up, and the fruits makes her flirty sweet without being overpowering. She is seductive without being doused with the typical vanilla base (so she's not smelling like a vanilla cake) and I'm happy to have found a fragrance to wear during late evenings that isn't vanilla based & rather musky. She opens with a burst of ripe tropical fruits mixed with patchouli and musk. She might seem a bit harsh (even a bit manly) at first, but after about 10-15 mins. she quickly mellows down into warm creamy fruits & fresh autumn flowers. This one has attitude and she's a strong, confident woman. She really is complex and hard to explain. I guess you just have to smell her. MR is similar to Euphoria or Forbidden Euphoria by CK, but IMO Midnight Rain is better balanced, creamier and has more warmth to it. I feared this would be as heavy on the patchouli as Angel, but this is different - much better in my opinion. MR isn't more expensive than fragraces from D&G or Chanel, so I don't mind the pricetag for a frag of this quality. The longevity is about 4-6 hours on me, or even longer but after that it's more of a soft, sweet skinscent (same as other high end frags). After about 4-5 hours I feel like I want to refresh, to make it stronger. Sillage is good and I usually spray 3-4 spritzes. I wore it to work and when I came back into my office after being out, I could smell the fragrance lingering in the room, but not like a punch in the face. The beautiful aroma was just there. I will get a lot of pleasure out of this bottle and I'm looking forward to dark autumn nights smelling this good. It's a perfect match! Try it for yourselves if you get a chance. UPDATE 2. oct 2014: My boyfriend told me yesterday that MR was a bit too strong for his liking, which really made me sad as I don't want use it around him anymore :(, BUT I still love it! Just wanted to add it to my review, for those of you who's interested in opinions from men.

Midnight rain should be haunting, mysterious, darker, a bit moody. Where's the incense and the dirty patchouli? Where's the leather and the ebony wood? WHERE is the midnight? Hell, where's the rain?? Not here. There is FRUIT. Quite a bit of it, actually. Apparently it's raining guava and it's a downpour! Guava is heavy throughout the entire life of this fragrance. You must love the note to even begin to tolerate this composition. Fortunately I find guava appealing, BUT not enough to be drenched in it. There are also FLORALs. A great big armful of vanilla orchids. The orchids are very dry and rather dusty to my nose. They are as tenacious as the guava. Neither is willing to retreat, both leading the olfactory charge. Again, it is fortunate I find orchid equally appealing, BUT not enough to be smothered in them. There is some patchouli to my nose, but it is distant (to me), which is surprising, given the strong backbone of this fragrance. It's usually the patchouli in the base that strengthens and holds everything together for me. Not so with Midnight Rain, it's the floral and the fruit...the fruit and the floral. It seems Midnight Rain is a floral/fruity, but it's not really like any floral fruity I know. THAT'S the real appeal, I think. The guava/vanilla orchid combination is not readily found together in any other fragrance. So while there's nothing (NOTHING) midnight-like or rain-like about this composition, a shame in itself, there's quite a bit of uniqueness to appreciate in this strong, long wearing, beautifully packaged fragrance. If unusual floral fruities appeal to you, jackpot! If the idea of a midnight rain (dark, private, pensive) appeals to you, you are completely out of luck.

This is sugary sweet with soft floral & fruity tones. Nothing new you might say, but it is truly different than any other perfumes I have. It vaguely reminds me of YSL Cinema. It certainly has the same class & style. Midnight rain is fruitier than Cinema, and a bit more "light hearted", I love both. Plus MR has a fabulous dry down when something akin to vanilla creeps in. Yum! I only wish my husband liked it as much as I do. I do have to say I totally disagree that it smells even slightly reminiscent of Angel. Who knows, maybe it's just extreme chemistry differences. Thankfully the original $125 price tag I once saw has been softened, especially if you hunt down the right deal on ebay. Now that I can actually validate the price tag I finally purchased a full bottle in addition to my purse spray and can wear it whenever I want without fear of running out. Love it! I think it's safe to say if you'd like a fruitier, slightly more casual version of Cinema this borders it. Check it out!

I came here for reminiscing this scent I was crazy for, since it was discontinued few years ago, and now I'm realizing what treasure I've had back then. I still remember the sharp sweet fruity opening, guava made it so unique, then plum blossom and orchid deepened it to a dark, sexy, edgy headturner mix. I was in love with the dark glittery bottle, and this scent was a nighttime magnet. I don't know why I was so attracted to mature deep scents in my early twenties, but I remember that I used 3 bottles straight from this. Actually wearing this was quite cloying, had a quite strong projection. I think in 2010's there weren't hundredthousand million perfumes on the market, it was easier to create unique ones. Now we are overwhelmed with creations, so I'm sure these days, it wouldn't be able to stand out from the crowd like it did back then.

My mum gave me a little tube of this that came with the facial product stuff she bought the other day. thinking it would be a awful old smelling scent i tried some on, but actually it wasn't too bad! Didn't really like the opening notes tho.. like other's below said it smelt a bit like rotting fruit...but absolutely loved the dry down! It was like a combination of vanilla and musk with a hint of manderin. perfect for winter~ however when i finish this little tube i don't think i would go buy the whole thing. Not perfect in my view :p

SPARKLING GUAVA First of all, the design of this perfume is beautiful. I love the shape of the bottle and the holographic glitter. I would describe this perfume as sparkling and tangy, with tropical fruits and pepper thrown in to the mix. I enjoyed wearing Midnight Rain despite not being fond of fruity scents. I would wear this at night or on special occasions as it is quite unusual and is better suited to evenings. Lasting power is ok but for the price I would've expected more.

The composition here is highly luminous, offering a refined, unique experience. It’s a sweet, romantic, and fruity-fresh profile, managing its sweetness masterfully so it never smells syrupy or sticky. The fragrance is housed in a bottle that really catches the eye, and the performance is exceptional, offering huge lasting power throughout the day. The major downside that keeps this from being a perfect 10/10 is the exorbitant price.

Unique scent. It's quite fruity and tropical because of guava and sweet but not sickening sweet. I also detect the pomegranate and something a bit flowery,maybe it's the orchid. I can't detect the patchouli in here. Very suitable for summer nights in my opinion, as the tropical vibe is really detectable and also wearable for all year round both night and daytime. I really like the sparkling bottle. The only downside is the price.
