Bergamotto

This is like a modernized, stripped-back version of Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Vert, and I love it. Not at all long-lasting or diffusive, but the simplicity means you really get the citrus-rind and twiggy-leafy-greenness of the bergamot, in an airy formula that feels hazy and relaxed, with lovely garden snapped-pea nuances.

Bergamotto is an exercise in restraint. This is not a vibrant, sparkling citrus burst, but rather a very subtle, almost delicate interpretation of bergamot: elegant, airy, and quietly refined. It feels completely genderless, in the way many of Ellena’s compositions do: transparent, understated, and effortlessly balanced. Performance is intentionally soft. Projection is minimal, and the sillage stays close to the skin, creating more of a personal aura than a noticeable trail. While it is marketed as a parfum cologne, that label feels more like a rebranding: this wears very much like a classic cologne in terms of presence and longevity. That said, judging it purely on performance would miss the point. This fragrance is about nuance and lightness, about capturing the essence of bergamot in its most refined and polished form, without excess or ornament. If you expect impact, this may disappoint. If you appreciate subtlety and the art of reduction, it delivers exactly what it sets out to do.

As I have mentioned before bergamot is my favorite citrus note, I love that incredibly bright and ethereal sparkle it has, personally I find it works great over really radiant musky compositions like Dior Homme Cologne or Chanel Eau de Cologne. In this offering it sits atop of an uneventful slightly green slightly spicy slightly musky base that I neither dislike neither care much for. Definitely solid, definitely a safe composition lacking a certain wow factor.

Very citrusy and thus fades quickly. I like it a lot, but I might just use it on a stuffed animal for longevity.

Phenomenal opening that degrades in mere minutes.

Testing blind I got a green splash of citrus and a hint of spice or something herby floating around. The initial wave was nice, but nothing particularly interesting or strong in character. Only looking at the notes now do I pick up the bergamot, so while it is there, it isn't that distinct. It's an easy, no thrills, may be overlooked, but still smells nice, fragrance. I'd recommend it given it's price point for someone who doesn't want anything too strong but still nice, without getting too niche. Frankly it's passable for me I think. I want more.

Truly very beautiful when first sprayed, but the longevity is so fleeting that I have to rate it as just alright. It’s a photorealistic bright, fresh citrus. Feels like real fruit, not a hint of synthetic cleaner. The search continues for a bergamot fragrance that has the staying power of Bergamote 22 without its outrageous price tag.

A bit too masculine and cold leaning for me, but a fantastic price point for a niche perfume house. And by one of the masters too!

Fresh, uplifting, bright bergamot fragrance with a twist of bitter orange and cardamom. Seamlessly blended like all Jean-Claude Ellena's creations. I loved the scent, it's the perfect summery citrus fragrance, but it has no lasting power at all. It lasted maybe 30 minutes on my skin. I then tried spraying on a layer of 'concrete de parfum' first, a stabilizer that often makes perfumes last longer on skin. That worked to make Bergamotto last longer. I also layer it with Malin & Goetz's Vitamin B5 skin cream/lotion, which has an almost identical bergamot scent. This worked wonderfully well to extend the life of the fragrance, so I ended up purchasing a bottle. This is the quintessential bright happy citrus scent for me. Bergamotto really is a wonderful fragrance, but you will have to add a lotion or a base on skin to make it last longer.

First impressions: Opens really bright, as others have stated. Dry down after about 10 minutes is also quite nice, and subtle. The orange has definitely come out to play. However I do not see this lasting much longer. Overall a pass for me as there are a lot of better offerings in this category with better staying power. If you enjoy citruses/fruits in a fragrance, you will most likely enjoy this.

Terrific, sparkling bergamot opening. Dries down to something natural smelling but not memorable. And weak! I normally don't ever complain about longevity, but this was only on my skin for 2 hours before I literally couldn't detect it any longer. I have shower gels with better performance. I wore it on multiple occasions and the performance was the same each time.

Aaah beautiful sparkling fresh juicy bergamot! Sweet, not too sweet, but definitely not too masculine nor bitter like some bergamots can be. Very unisex, juicy green and fresh. This one is my least favorite and the only one I do not own from the line. For me, this one is more about flower and musk than it is cirtrus. This also is the weakest one from the collection, fades away to nothing very quickly.
