Oud in White

Oud in White belongs to the Extreme collection from Laboratorio Olfattivo, composed by Julien Rasquinet, a perfumer known for working with oriental and woody themes. In Middle Eastern traditions, it is quite common to combine oud oil with floral oils, especially white florals such as orange blossom, ylang-ylang, or jasmine. In Western perfumery, however, the idea of using white flowers to soften oud became widespread much later, largely after around 2010. The name itself is quite literal. Oud is usually associated with something dark and dense, while the word “White” signals immediately that this fragrance pairs oud with white florals. In the first few minutes on skin, the opening shows a bright mix of pear and raspberry with a crisp acidity, accompanied by fresh ginger that adds a clean spicy touch. The impression is clear and lively. Before the fruit notes fade, the oud begins to appear, slowly layering itself beneath the fruit. Together they create a cool-toned “woody sweetness,” which gives the fragrance a very recognizable character. Then jasmine emerges. Here the jasmine feels close to the scent of real blossoms—rich and smooth. Osmanthus is less distinct, mainly contributing a delicate honeyed-fruity nuance. Cedar provides the structural support, balancing the sweetness of the florals so they do not become heavy. This stage reflects the “White” in the name: the florals and fruit act like a layer of light that lifts the oud, preventing it from feeling dark or dense. The heart is particularly well executed. In the drydown, oud combines with labdanum and sandalwood. The oud leans toward a woody tone with a subtle leather facet, while labdanum adds a soft resinous warmth and sandalwood brings a smooth texture. What remains on the skin is a quiet woody scent with a faint leather-like touch. Longevity is good, and projection is moderate.

One of the surprises of 2025 for sure (but released in 2024), Oud in White by LaboratorioOlfattivo from JulienRasquinet opens on a fresh trio of pear, ginger, and raspberry. A bright, mildly spiced fruit burst that softens the moment the oud myth kicks in forming a sweetish gasoline accord. Soon after the intro, jasmine sambac kicks in and becomes the star of the show, fleshy and creamy as it is. The Jasmin's indolic presence is wrapped in osmanthus and grounded by a slender cedarwood element. As it dries into its base, oud, labdanum, and sandalwood contribute to a dawn-side long wearing leather accord. Performance projection wise is rather polite but does not disappoint: Oud in White hovers close to the skin for most of its journey, without screaming. Its longevity runs for 8+ hours. This Reqsquinet composition for Laboratorio Olfattivo is bang on unisex and feels curated for mature wearers: the fruit-floral top notes give a friendly introduction, while the jasmine-oud core lends depth. In my opinion, it is approachable for oud-curious users but at the same time, provide enough uniqueness for connoisseurs too. Oud in White's fruitiness and substance ensure that it can be used all year round, making it versatile. I would still recommend sampling it first, especially for those who can appreciate compositions that develop across floral and woody notes.

A bold leathery-resinous oud fragrance by Julien Rasquinet for Laboratorio Olfattivo. Eventhough listed, I don‘t get much of the fruity top notes, only a faint idea for the first few seconds. Oud In White then immediately starts to showcases a pungent oud note and leathery facets, very dark and brooding. At this stage, the fragrance will be challenging for the vast majority of people. Then slowly, a somewhat clean and not overly indolic jasmine note joins the composition, supported by a touch of osmanthus. The jasmine is more of a whisper, adding a shade of white to the otherwise very dark composition. Once Oud In White fully dries down, labdanum becomes a prominent note, softened by sandalwood, while still retaining it‘s leathery facets and a touch of jasmine. The drydown is where Oud In White is truly stunning and elegant, but it needs a few hours to get there. Oud In White has almost eternal longevity and massive sillage, to be dosed with caution. A statement-making perfume for the fearless.

At first sniff, I realized I had smelled something very close to this scent before. histoires de parfum 1.7 And this fragrance. They both share the same unique character in today’s market—and of course, I love them both. For me, my very first love in niche perfumery was Amouage Opus XI under Christopher Chong’s direction (the former creative director of Amouage), followed by Gucci Guilty Absolute. In recent years, I’ve discovered something cleaner yet still carrying the essence of those two beloved fragrances. They both possess a clean, industrial character that is also nostalgic—reminiscent of the interior of an old bathroom in an Arabian country or Iran, with bars of handmade soap resting on a cement shelf. This is a perfect choice for someone with a strong presence in the worlds of art and design—such as a visual artist, gallery director, art curator, or fashion designer. It’s a contemporary and bold scent for a strong, detail-oriented individual.

I got sent a sample of this new fragrance after purchasing one of their bottles. Oud in White sounded quite interesting. The original idea was to make a jasmine and oud fragrance and well it is a bit but it has so much to it than that. In the opening you really do detect the jasmine floral aspect but the jasmine has made some friends taming the little indolic aspects of the jasmine with some sweetness. It's like the jasmine has been a bit caramelized but not in a sickly sweet way. The oud starts to appear way back in the dry down with its smoky touches. It's honestly beautiful how it compliments the floral aspect of the jasmine. This is a really original fragrance and I will have to give it some more wears to consider purchasing it but I am quite pleased so far. Well done!

I think you should give this a chance. After it sits on the skin for about 30 minutes it's really beautiful. It's a dichotomy between light and dark. Black and white. The white Jasmine and the black oud dancing. For some reason it makes me feel sad. It's really good in my opinion.

There are some oud fragrances that remind me of the smell of the inside of a brand new pair of sneakers or a freshly opened can of tennis balls. Fresh, leathery, medicinal, rubbery, a little minty, ...this is one of those and I love it.

Wild and Beautiful fragrance. A Goblin spies in a rainy forest, hidden in between trees and covering his body with Jasmin flowers to camouflage his natural odour. Really beautiful white flower, original and sexy

RANT- This DOES NOT smell like feces or farts. If ONLY farts smelled like this, people would NEVER leave airplane lavatories.🤨 Come on people...give a review or do not. Leaving a poo remark is stupid & a waste of time, especially in the absence of anything informative. ------------ NOW for an actual review. This perfume opens with a waft of leathery oud, mixed with fruity notes which begin to come forward pretty quickly. As it dries down, it does become better. The longer it's on the better it gets. A soft slightly sweet, more gentle oud scent. More fruity, less leather in the drydown. I find the combination of notes to be unusual..but not unpleasant. Again, the drydown is quite nice. That said, it's not for me. The price is too high. The performance is average overall, but it does linger on the skin for quite a while. IGNORE THE POO REMARKS. 🙄

Tested recently. It opens fruity, nicely, nothing too strong, then everything is about jasmine absolute, very well done, not overwhelming as some white florals can be, can't pick specifically osmanthus, there is some fruitness in it but is it osmanthus absolute? I cannot say to be honest, can be some remain of the opeining or some sort of chemical fruity thing. Jasmine brings you in the oud - labdanum drydown, still sweet, still creamy due to the sandanol. A very well done blend, quite unisex (but I prefer it on a woman dunno why, it seems more sexy to me, very cool). Wereable four seasons around, good price for jasmine absolute - oud fragrance (but do not expect an overdose of them off course).

my first oud (!!) and i'm really liking it so far. starts off animalic and woody (like the faint cigarette smoke off a dusty flannel kinda?) with a shy raspberry-osmanthus and then AND THEN it molds into this deep, warm syrupy incense. still very woody/oudy but it gets more rich and poignant the longer you wear it (and yes this is definitely one of the longest lasting frags i've tried). smells like my second apartment from childhood: show your bones by yyy's playing, windows open, my mom grating ginger over a bubbling pot, and my sister and i playing card games under the incense burner. evoked a visceral reaction in me, oud might really be my thing.

Update. This is a two for one fragrance. Starts off mildly unpleasant animal. A couple of hours later jasmine and tonkade. This is quite nice but that opening, he says askance. Six hours in mostly mild leathery oud. Layer this with any number of BR540 clones and perhaps that will approximate Oud for greatness. The opening is straight medicated bandaid. After it settles, soft spices, powder and Oud. Slight halitosis accord? This Oud does not smell like feces to me but I definitely understand why someone might say “hey. This kind of smells like sh*t.” After a while this evens out and is much more wearable. Projection is acceptable. Longevity is eternal. I am at 11 hours and this shows no signs of fading anytime soon. I purchased a maison branded sample. The sprayer is atrocious. There is very little travel in the pump and when it finally works it spits out this feeble little stream. To all the fellas out there and the ladies who have one in their life. I imagine this is was an 85 year old enlarged prostate does to one’s stream.

yes, this does smell like feces at the first whiff, but thats the price you pay for using this type of Oud. Let it dry down, at the dry down it it smells like white florals and "intense" oud, which is not bad, its interesting but it does not drive me crazy.

smells like a fart in an airplane bathroom. not quite poopy, but in the neighborhood. you cant get away from it fast enough. yet its not the worst smell i've ever smelled. lol.

I tried a sample on my skin, and my first thought was “this can’t be right, does the shop’s warehouse have peeing rats?”, since a perfume should be pleasant, and not make you want and need a shower ASAP... then I checked the reviews, and it totally made sense how around half of the people perceived it as feces-smelling. I am, as it turns out, one of those people. I believe I know how to appreciate unusual strange scents, but this one I just cannot accept as something I want to be noticed by anyone in, since they will assume I stepped on something on the street. For those writing “ignore the poo comment”: of course, scent perception is subjective, but just think about how your peers and people around you are very likely to perceive it as a poo smell coming from you, even if you yourself do not. Some might take the risk anyway, but definitely something to consider.

Ever since I put my nose on Russian Tea by Masque Milano, I’ve been captivated by Julien Rasquinet’s visionary approach to modern perfumery. It was, and remains, a truly unique and multifaceted creation—a hallmark of his artistry. Naturally, I was intrigued to explore one of his latest works: an oud composition for Laboratorio Olfattivo. On paper, the note pyramid promised a dynamic interplay—jasmine, ginger, fruits—but on my skin, this fragrance charted a much simpler course. From the outset, I was met with a bold, slightly animalic Cambodian oud, which dominated the composition from start to finish. While it does soften slightly in the drydown, it remains steadfastly oud-centric, leaving little room for the promised floral or fruity nuances to shine. As someone with over 15 oud-focused fragrances in my collection, I found this offering a touch too linear. I craved a hint of sweetness or even the occasional floral whisper to add depth and dimension, but alas, it wasn’t to be. That said, I recognize this might be more a matter of my skin chemistry than the composition itself. In the end, while I can see this being a delight for purists and lovers of raw, unadulterated oud, it simply didn’t resonate with me personally. One official sample was enough to sate my curiosity. A respectable creation, but for me, it’s a pass. Final Verdict: 5/10

Indolic, fruity floral on top of leathery, woody oud. This is a strong one. The white florals are pretty, but they are not light and airy. At times the oud leans barnyard, other times it's a cleaner and leathery. Can definitely be headache inducer if oversprayed. The first time I sampled it I found there to be an unpleasant quality, but every time I've worn it since it has grown on me. This is definitely an oudy fragrance, so proceed with caution if that is not your thing. But the juxtaposition between the pretty white florals and the dirty oud is definitely compelling. Personally, I would classify this one as an evening/special occasion fragrance. If you enjoy oud or corrupted florals (fans of black orchid might appreciate this one), definitely give it a try. I'm considering a full bottle.
