Tonkade

I took quite a long time to understand and appreciate this fragrance. It is complex but also very straight forward, as it doesn't hide any of the notes in itself. For this very reason it took me some time to understand how simple but just pleasant this fragrance really is. Among very predictable winter fragrances, this scent is a breath of fresh air. Its unique blend of tonka, woods, and sweet notes is really not ordinary. This is a fragrance that challenges, surprises, and ultimately delights. The opening notes strike with the force of cardamom. Yet, there lingers a dissonance – perhaps the dried fruits, or the sharpness of the cardamom itself. This is a challenging beginning, one that leaves me uncertain, questioning. But later its gentle embrace comes off. The harshness softens, giving off a delicate interplay of woods and vanilla, their dance guided by the steady heartbeat of tonka. Here, in the heart of the scent, I find a peaceful hug. The woods offer me an earthy warmth, grounding the composition in a sense of rootedness, while the vanilla and tonka show a tapestry of sweetness that is both comforting and alluring. And then, the fragrance reaches its best part – the drydown. Here, the vanilla and benzoin take center stage, their union a symphony of richness and depth. It's truly a moment of pure olfactory bliss, a culmination of all that has come before. While it may lean towards the masculine, there is an undeniable unisex quality that defies categorization, and I find it just perfect for cold months. Delicate yet bold, sweet yet sharp at times. I was truly captivated by the journey it took me on.

This is a Marshmallow you just slightly burned in the fire, just like I lik'em! I'm so here for it, I bought the BIGOL bottle. I can't tell you about some of the "Reminds me of" but I can tell you I have Commodity Milk Bold & By the Fireplace. I've got to to a wrist to wrist w/ Fireplace later, but I did with Milk. This has more of the "Campfire" & "Marshmallow" smell than Milk does. But, the more they dried down, the closer they got. I love both, but If I had to buy one, it would be this one. I think I like it better than By the Fireplace too. I'll update after I test those 2 together. All 3 are gorgeous. Patchouli is hardly detectable here. Edit to add, the reviewer below is correct. I have backup bottles of bonfire bash AND it's dupe from Walmart, S'mores. They both smell great & almost identical to each other BTW, but,..you can tell those are body sprays & this is a GROWNA$$ Perfume. After wrist to wrist W/ BTF~ Never noticed this before until now. BTF has that Sweet Firewood Smell I remember my Dad burning in the fireplace. I also get more balsamic Amber in this than I do with Tonkade. I still say Tonkade is closer to Commodity Milk Bold & a Campfire Smoke getting your Marshmallow slightly burned. I do get the subtle Incense too. Not the harsh church one. In order, I am ENAMORED w/ Tonkade, I don't know if I can give BTF & CM a second or third b/c they are equally beautiful, yet the differences are something I enjoy in both of them. I clearly need to stop buying perfumes. WAYYY over 500 at this point. I'm scared to count. I am Obsessed.

Thee most beautiful tonka forward composition I have ever smelled. Strong and long lasting, I could smell it from the bottle when I first opened it. Opulent, sweet, creamy tonka with just a soft edge of fruity floral, just a hint. I can appreciate that since I'm not a huge fan of most fruity notes or overbearing florals but in Tonkade, it is well balanced. More like the fruit accord you'd smell in a decadent tobacco fragrance. Not too much, just right. Rich sweetness, not cheap or cloying sweetness. It keeps getting better with the warmth of your skin. This is an "old money dessert eaten on special occasions only" sweet. A delicious Cavendish pipe tobacco pouch in the pocket of a distinguished gentleman's wool coat. A cozy sweater worn on Christmas morning. Tonka bean is the supreme star and beautifully done. A new favorite for the curation! UPDATE 8/8/26, every time, and I mean EVERY time I've worn this to work/public at least one person comments on how good I, or the room smells. So, this is a compliment getter for sure if that's what you're aiming for because people seem to adore this. Wear Tonkade around difficult people when you need that "Jean-Baptiste Grenouille" effect. 👍🏻

This is very complex but at the same time very simple, it goes to the point immediately, Tonka. If your nose is trained then you will find the rest of the notes. For those saying that this is sweet (even the lady that sell it to me) you have never smelled before a tonka cake in the oven, this is very gourmand but is far from sweet. I understand the association of vanillla and fruits with sweetness but is something that you definitely don’t find in here. The vanilla I very very adult, you don’t smell the McDonalds icecream, you can smell a Tahitian vanilla pod before scratching it, you smell the tonka bean being shedded all of that in a bed of smoky musk. Is hard to find a tonka fragrance that actually smells like tonka and this one is amazing. The silage is great and long long lasting, unfortunately (for me) in warm weathers is a little bit too much but when the temperature is low I love it from morning to night. You can use is for dates, for work, for formal occasions, is very versatile and the price is unbeatable totally worth it.

Interesting, cozy, yet very bright. Has an interesting sweetness that stops way before it becomes toothachingly candy sweet. It almost smells nostalgic for me, especially how it dries like powdered milk on me, so you could say it has a playfulness & youthfulness to it but I don't think it's anyway immature. (Updated after buying the full bottle) It reeeally has more meat now! Meat = volume, not meaty notes lol. I guess since it's the full, deep concentration vs a small sample. The sweetness is still there but so much depth too. There's a biscuit smell I didn't quite get before somewhere trailing behind. Idk why but the smell seems to go down my stomach if that makes sense. Like the cozy/comforting experience i feel travel from my nose, down my throat, and into my midsection? I don't think I've smelled anything that consistently gives me a physiological reaction. Hands down my favorite fragrance

Pure Tonka, really well done- even it is simple I just cannot stop sniffing it. This takes you to a sweet nice spot. Not only is this a warm sweet scent but also spicy so you get a nice touch of everything. It is a welcoming scent that wants to give you a big ass warm hug. However for the life of me, this is definitely a dupe for some other famous tonka centered fragrance, but I can't remember right now. Every time i take a sniff, a different note hits my nose. At first, it is sweet then spicy and now it is woody incense. definitely a hit 10/10 and the more i smell it on my skin it reminds me of TF Tobacco vanille but definitely with a different blend yet similar components

Not too sweet... Not too spicy... Not too much vanilla... Not too woody... Just the right amount of everything to make this a well-blended, perfect Fall/Winter fragrance. So wearable! It's like that pair of jeans that fit so well and are so flattering. It's easy & casual, but sexy & stylish at the same time. While there's no leather accord mentioned, I definitely get a leather note after the initial dry down. There is just enough wood to add a bit of masculinity, but if you're looking for something "manly", this isn't it! It only just barely leans unisex, in my opinion. This is definitely going to get a lot of wear this Fall/Winter... Totally full-bottle-worthy!

I’ve just bought a full bottle of this perfume. For me it is definitely feminine. Maybe at the opening it might seem slightly unisex, but later when tonka and vanilla starts to dominate, it opens as sweet, creamy and a bit woody women perfume. For me it’s a pure vanilla and tonka bomb - sweet, but not in a synthetic and cheap way. It is pleasantly warm, smooth and as the others have mentioned - cannot stop sniffing it. My friends have said that I smell as a bakery during the Christmas season 😀 The only con is longevity - I wish it had a better one, as it holds for ~6h only. But I think it’s a perfect value for a price I paid (90€ with a discount).

This is lovely and definitely skews gourmand. The dried fruits give it an almost cherry/almond or plum note. It reminds me a lot of of Dua's "Drowning in Cherry Casino" which is a combination of Lost Cherry (cherry/plum, woods, tonka, vanilla), Ani (vanilla, cardamom, woods, amber, musk), and BR540 (cashmeran, amber, musk, woods, almond) -- albeit a bit more tonka than fruit! Cardamom and neroli is stronger in the opening, but the tonka/amber/fruit/cashmeran scent combo is potent and lasts FOREVER. I even took a shower and could smell it afterward I'd soaped it off (!). I don't mind though as it's absolutely lovely. Definitely full bottle worthy.

this opens with a strong dose of tonka, accompanied by some powdery cardamom and a hint of dried fruits in the background. It’s a warm, cozy, slightly spiced and sweet blend. The heart of this picks up the sweetness with a creamy vanilla and cashmere that feels really enveloping and smooth. I typically hate patchouli and the one in here isn’t my favorite but it’s only really there momentarily. The full dry lessens that patchouli and you get a smoked woodiness, sweet vanilla with a creamy tonka bean, and some muskiness too. This is a really cozy and unique tonka focused scent that I think is perfectly unisex.

I was introduced to this scent by the wonderful staff at Bloom in Covent Garden. I took home a sample, and it quickly became a favorite. I then invested in it as my first full brand new bottle of niche perfume, and I absolutely adore it. There's a time after 30-120 minutes when it smells a bit soapy on my skin, but then it blossoms into a rich, warm and welcoming tonka blanket. From here on in, I'm never looking back. This is the start of my wonderful journey into scent, and I'm so happy to have finally discovered this whole new world.

Tonkade is gorgeous! Warm and sweet- but not too sweet. Incense-y, a little smoky, def musky, and quite woody. I don’t really get the fruit or neroli, but definitely a whiff of cardamom. Very reminiscent of a Guerlain-style perfume. Similar vibes to L'Heure Bleu in dry-down, but without the citrus. Moderate sillage; I sprayed about 6 hrs ago and still making a lovely warm veil around me.

So, I tried it on and literally everyone commented on it. It has nothing to do with Tobacco Vanille from TF, only that both are gourmand perfumes. In the beginning it almost goes into hazelnuts and then settles down into vanilla-tonka. I’m definitely taking it for exit autumn/ winter, cause it makes you think of warm sweater, cozy blanket and a cup of hot chocolate. Very beautiful.

My all time favorite for fall and winter, gorgeous and warm. The incense in this is inviting, friendly. It’s what brings the warmness to this fragrance for me. It’s like drinking your favorite bourbon, smooth with just the right about of bite to it. This fragrance made me love incense. I can’t wait to try more from this house

This is gorgeous unique masterpiece! I can smell the Cardamom at first then it settles down with Vanilla and Tonka Beans and when it dries down I can still smell the vanilla and musk! It's a really great perfume and it lasts 8+ hours. It's that type of perfume that you wanna keep sniffing all the time! I love it!

Stunning! Refreshing yet mouthwatering blend of spices mixed with a prominent honey note and a touch of candied orange peel. It has a deep and a bit animalic base (which makes it a bit less playful and more serious), but otherwise it’s grate! Tonka beens aren’t too nutty here, which is a good thing I guess.

Yummy. This starts off as a warm cardamom latte: comforting, a bit sweet and a bit spicy. Then it shifts more and more towards dark chocolate. There is some woody smokiness faintly in the background like a fireplace crackling. This fragrance is Tonka in perfection. Top of my wish list for the next winter.

My favourite Tonka/ Vanilla scent. Beautiful from start to finish with excellent longevity. Feels like an embrace in front of a fire place in a dark stone room. If you want the perfect date night scent or a delicious tonka forward scent that you can’t stop getting whiffs of this is it.

Tonkade is one of my all-time favorite tonka fragrances, right alongside Tonka Hysteria. Rich, creamy tonka wrapped in dark vanilla, cardamom and a touch of incense creates something addictive, elegant, and effortlessly comforting without ever feeling overly gourmand.

The remind me off section is all over the place and none of them are close. The closest fragrance I can think of to Tonkade is BDK Gris Charnel and even that one is maybe only 60-70% similar. They have a similar powdery vibe but I do prefer Tonkade much more.

Mouthwatering tonka beans with nice refreshing and spicy opening (lot of green cardamom). It also has dark woody notes next to tonka (sometimes like cashmeran) and nice rich incense. It’s like a fresher version of Vanhera for me. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Beast for layering. Sweet tonka bean and vanilla with dried fruits and incense to make it unique. This can lift any fragrance to a higher level and complexity, but it also works great for itself. For the good price tag I strongly recommend this!

Tonkade is absolutely divine! The initial burst of tonka and dried fruits is so inviting, and it dries down to the most luxurious vanilla-amber scent. It's warm, comforting, and truly addictive. Perfect for cooler weather.

I love love love this perfume! It's just amazing, perfect for day and night, and for all seasons! The cardamom at the beginning is strong, but it doesn't last that much, instead gives a spiciness to the fragrance.

Smells like a freshly baked panetone and a very soft incense note. This is truly an masterpiece, easily my favorite fragrance of all time.

Today in the boutique of Laboratorio Olfativo, I was offered Tonkade to test after I was talking about my deep interest in Xerjoff Erba Pura, which is not even close at all. I couldn’t stop laughing. Anyway, as soon as I smelled the scent that she sprayed on something you might call it a "hand fan" and started to blow the scented air of Tonkade toward me in front of my face, which is a Japanese style and I loved it, I got blown away. This perfume is well-blended. I loved it on the spot. Howeveeeeeeer, this point like many other perfumes in the market, nische or designer, is only fantastic on the top note. The development makes it a very normal good scent, since I tested a whole sample on my skin then. Another problem is that it is totally a skin-scented perfume, even at the initial point. The longevity on my skin is around 6-7 hours, while you can smell it sticking your nose to your skin and the projection is an arm length (To compare the longevity not the class of perfumes on my skin, Tiziana Terenzi Kirke stays on my skin for 24 hours way easily and it is noticeable by others even after a shower). On the other hand, once in a while, I could conceive the scent on my hand when I moved my arm, which is satisfying. To conclude, I love this perfume, it’s interesting on the top note, very interesting. If you are looking for a great nische-like perfume for 115 euro 100ml to spray everyday and recharge it again and again on your daily basis, it will definitely be worth the money, a great experience. It’s not similar to any other perfume at all. But you can’t expect a noticeably great performance from Tonkade. In this case, it reminds me of the house Atelier Cologne. Longevity: 5/10 Sillage:3/10 Projection: 4/10 Versatility: 9/10 Excitement: 20 out of 10 :)

Tonkade was not what I expected given the name and the note breakdown. I was expecting something intensely sweet, creamy and vanillic, something overwhelmingly edible. And whilst it has elements of these things, overall I feel it heads towards a slightly sharper, smokier dimension. The tonka is there, front and centre - it’s addictively sweet and creamy, alongside copious amounts of vanilla of course. From here it begins to become a bit spicy, the warmth of cardamom amongst dried fruits darkens the scent profile. Not long after, a sudden smoky sharpness emerges, I imagine from the combination of frankincense, patchouli and cedar. It’s a lovely fragrance, one that I will enjoy wearing my sample of, but I had hoped it would lean into gourmand territory a bit more. For me, it could have done without the smoky woodiness. But either way it’s a gorgeous scent, and if you enjoy your tonka/vanilla not too sweet then this may be the scent for you.

Sweet, vanillin, isosuper, radiant, gourmand. Very good composition, the note of dried fruits is lovely. A prominent note of cashmeran with a hint of spicy given by the patchouli. The natural and sythetic elements are very distinguishable. If you like sweet edible gourmand fragrance this is for you defentely, especially if you like vanilla and tonka bean. To me it feels a very good fragrance but maybe a bit boring, this is very similiar to other thousands of vanilla tonka fragrances, Maybe a floral element or the note of cardamom to be stronger would have given this fragrance a more original take. Given those facts is not a bad fragrance at all ! Long lasting, def. Good sillage and projection. Maybe a bit more originality would have given it a better shape. Leaning fem to my nose and defentely a winter autumn fragrance you would want to wear during the night. 7.5/10

This goes on like a Chanel product. You know, pretty but with a little funk. Then the lady of the evening takes a whore’s bath and this ends up being nice. Tonka, vanilla, a little wood and a little spice. If you like vanilla and Tonka give this a shot. At the end of the day this is nice and complex, especially nose to skin, that is when I notice the spices. I think it leans feminine to me as there is a sweet powdery aspect that I am always a sucker for. I would prefer a little more projection because the tonka and vanilla are quite evident but the spices don’t reach me. Perhaps in warmer weather. The more time goes in the more I like it. I went from 🤷🏼 to having to restrain myself from purchasing a full bottle in one sitting. It’s funny, I thought this was going to start off with terrible performance, nope, 15 hours later I am still aware of it.

This is a fragrance first and foremost. You can smell the patchouli here which adds an earthen/chocolate touch that lies in the back adjacent to cashmerean and dried fruits. Thats what hits my nose. This is not a sillage beast but it does have longevity of at least 7 hours. Of course, clean well moisturized skin can really get more wear from this. I put this on after a shower and I was pressed for time so there wasn't any use of lotion. 7 hours then was really good. Doesn't smell gourmand. This is quite nice in cool to cold weather Among other scents in the vanillic space, this is good. Not great but distinguishes itself in the line with the notes that do pop. Overall 4/5

More umphy version of Nektar. Nektar is bright with its honey and sage. This is darker, a little powdery and nutty. I bought these two together as samples, and I thought the seller had had the two confused with each other. I think on some aspects, Nektar's note description suits Tonkade better, and the other way around. But of course, it's because they smell similar. Not the same, though, at all. 4/5

Nose Note #239 To my nose this is a conflicting blend that's at first bitter and sweet and has a medicinal touch. It's warm, but not attractive. Later it becomes more of a caramel scent. Can't find anything about it that would be pleasant at all to me. Just not nice, even has this undertone that tell me that there's something a little bit off about it.

I loved the tonka note in this; it has a mildly sweet and nutty scent similar to the vanilla caviar note from Burberry’s Goddess. The incense note is a nice touch too, although I wish it lasted longer. A little of this goes a long way, even in cold weather. I got at least 13 hours of wear time with just a few sprays.

A medley of sweet dried fruits, comforting vanilla, a hint of cedar... The cardamom and incense are barely there. If you want a sweet fragrance that doesn't lean immature - that's it. Very well blended and such an overall winner, I can't imagine how anyone might dislike this!

Very pretty. I get more powdery labdanum than tonka, but it is lightly sweet, delicate whilst still having good sillage, a little sparkle in the top notes. It is very similar to Labdanum 18 but a little sweeter and warmer, more complex.

pure rich tonka bean that isn't too sweet. it's pretty good, sweetens up a little more and the initial spice subsides in the drydown. not the most special but very cozy, smooth, and edible.

I had seen Tonkade hyped up by fragrance folks on TikTok and once again, I am let down by the hype. This is a boring vanillic fragrance. It's also musty for some reason. I'm not a fan of the dried fruits and cardamom combination here - it gives it an odd spicy fruitiness in the dry down that I don't prefer in combination with tonka or vanilla. Because of that, I wouldn't describe this as Gourmand. It doesn't smell edible or cozy to me. It just doesn't compare to the personality of other fragrances that use vanilla or tonka bean as a prominent note - Lune Feline, A Whiff of Waffle Cone, Absolute Aphrodisiac, Angels' Share, Vanilla in Bourbon... etc. I wouldn't spend my money on Tonkade and it's looking like I won't be spending it on anything from the Laboratorio line - I haven't particularly enjoyed anything I've tried. Vanagloria, Vanhera, Miss_U... icky. 1/10 EDIT: It seems a reviewer above me doesn't understand that not everyone enjoys the same fragrance lines and looks down on those who use TikTok. Not everyone is a fragrance connoisseur and "knows everything". We don't have to be experts to have an opinion on what we smell. Quick reminder to wear what you love, don't wear what you don't love, and don't feel bad for not being an expert on fragrance and getting your information from popular platforms or sources. It doesn't make you any less informed to gather information from reviewers on TikTok, especially is if fragrance collecting is simply a fun hobby. It's not that deep.

Testing blind I get a pretty approachable fuzzy warm feeling, with notes of amber, vanilla, and musk but relatively mild, meaning while comfy it doesn't particularly have a lot of character. Looking at the notes after, the tonka definitely leads but I don't really notice the dried fruits at all, and most of the other notes play a pretty faint background role. I feel I would have to drown myself in this fragrance to get a bit more out of it, but if so would get mostly the tonka and there's plenty of other slaps of tonka out there. I wish most of the other notes were more layered and prominent. While the combination of the notes listed is intriguing and feels promising, the fragrance falls a little flat for me, coming off as a slight warm hug from a casual acquaintance rather than that of a close and dear friend with a deeper more meaningful relationship. At the same time maybe it's an easy entry into warm amber tonka vibes without too much bigness.

it's cozy and comfortable but unfortunately, it's pretty linear with the tonka and vanilla. plus, I think this was underwhelming simply for the fact that it smells exactly like bath and body work's "bonfire bash." Not a bad fragrance whatsoever but it comes across as another simple vanilla scent :/ update 12/09/24: I found the sample again as I was reorganizing my things and wanted to see if anything had changed. It smells really good, though it remains a bit too sweet for me. Definitely smells like dried fruits and intensely creamier arroz con leche!

Too sweet. Reminds me of an axe body spray, and I will tell exactly which one. Do you remember the chocolaty one called "Dark Temptation"? That's it. Buy LO Tonkade if you want to upgrade from your axe, but I personally think it's overrated. + Well-done + Pleasant - Generic - Somewhat Complex - Boring + Price is justified

I give up on this one time it’s that soft spicy b Vanilla that’s deep and pretty, the next one it’s that screeching patchouli that I can’t scrub off. The next one it’s a succession of both. I just can’t I absolutely love it when that patchouli is not assaulting my nose

Simply, this is spicy vanilla in the same vein of tobacco vanilla by TF, Arabesque, Tabac Rouge and Ani. The closest perfume to this in my opinion is Zara ( Tobacco Collection Rich Warm Addictive 2018), unfortunately its discontinued. This is very addictive, worm, a bit spicy and classy scent. It smells like tobacco vanilla by TF but without cloves and with a lot of cardamom and cinnamon ( I know cinnamon is not listed but I smell a lot of it). I'm not saying its smells exactly like tobacco vanilla, this is just to describe how it smells. Tonkade is a winning composition for fall and winter, and very very addictive. The only problem is that the performance is moderate, I get 5 to 6 hours longevity with a strong projection for the 1st hour then it becomes close to the skin. When I spray it on cloths I get more longevity and projection. If this is has excellent performance I'm sure it will be one of the best releases of 2020. I have to say it, scent wise only, this is way better than tobacco vanilla by TF, of course performance is an issue. Rating 8/10 If it performs for 8-10 hours, I will give it 9.5/10. Update: I really think laboratorio olfattivo should release a higher concentration of this in their master collection, I'm very sure this scent is excellent, it needs only a higher concentration and an excellent fixative. Update: After 10-20 min the cardamom is gone and the only thing I smell is tonka and cinnamon, very smooth and it smells like cinnamon gums. It needs more tonka and cardamom.

This is a very beautiful fragrance, ideal for autumn. As its name announces, it is dominated by the smell of tonka beans, which are usually used as a base note, but here this reliable supporting actor is given the starring role. The tonka is expertly paired with its standard ally, vanilla, as well as warm spices, patchouli and dried fruits. The scent is sweet, but not overwhelmingly so; I wouldn't call it a gourmand, because the overall impression is more ambery-spicy-aromatic than foody. Does it resemble Dior's legendary Fève Délicieuse? Yes, it does; so, if you happen to love Fève, but can't afford it, or you'd simply love to try something in a similar vein, then Tonkade is a good candidate. The main difference between these two is that Fève opens a bit fresher, followed by a short-lived tart cherry phase, and then evolves to become a bit more gourmandish-chocolatey, whereas Tonkade does not develop much and preserves its main idea throughout. The scent lasts a fair bit and remains gorgeous even when its projection subsides.

It is a complex tonka bean kaleidoscope, with all the notes that have something in common: amber, labdanum, a piece of a real vanilla pod, cardamom-spiced pastry, soft musk, wood, some more metallic incense in a whiff of smoke. What I like most is the brief orange blossom opening, as orange blossom in a gourmand is always so sensual. What I miss is the bitter aspect the real bean has when overdosed. What I also miss is something different and out of this prolonged tonka harmony. I could say it eventually comes in the long run, as all the notes merge into a homogenic olfactive hum and there comes the illusion of a new monolithic note: smooth suede, or refined rubber if you wish, in the tradition Bvlgari Black started, with a medicinal hue of sandalwood and anisic notes. In this case, indistinct humming and hugging is just the right form for this matter. Through continuous wearing, Tonkade silently starts to create a cocoon of comfort around me. Not that they're similar, but I feel the same for Etro's Sandalwood.

This is gorgeous! From gourmand notes tonka note is one of my favorite, so I was very eager to try this, and let me tell you this does not disappoint. Tonkade is amazing! One of the best perfumes from this house to me alongside Vanagloria. I haven't seen anyone mentioning a powdery feeling, which I get, I get a little bit of powdery tonka note, smooth and soft....
