Vanhera

The opening of this has a very prominent spicy Sichuan pepper note but blended with the aroma of a spicy vanilla marshmallow...yes a spicy marshmallow lol. The spices here blend together in a warm and aromatic way but they feel smooth. The heart of this is sweet and comforting. The cinnamon is softly warm and the cashmere is softly cozy with a powdered sandalwood. The base notes include “timbersilk” not ambrocenide and karmawood for the “dark woodsy notes”. Both are very prominent in making a warm and amber forward powdered musk. I typically don’t enjoy amber heavy scents but this one works, it’s an almost fluffy amber. With an added sweet vanilla it makes for a woody, toasty, powdery vanilla marshmallow type of musk. *I will say this is a tad bit cloying so idk if I’d buy a full bottle of this

I’ve finally found a vanilla fragrance I like, actually love in this case. It’s not sweet, sickly or cloying. Beautifully balanced with the cardamom. The mid and base notes play their roles but the vanilla is never far away. Smells totally “niche” but with a designer price tag. Decent longevity on me, I could smell it faintly the following day, but probably not particularly strong sillage, I’m guessing. I will definitely be buying more from this house!! 8/10

Amazing... A truly intriguing and non-trivial vanilla. Despite the listed notes, the spices in the opening come across as almost cold to my nose. It's a dry, woody, sensual vanilla. Absolutely not the usual sweet vanilla for young girls or cakes. It wraps me in its unique charm and captivates those around me. I wish it would never fade and always surround me with its mystical and incredibly sensual aura. 10/10.

I bought a sample of this from Bloom and within 10 minutes I’d bought a 100ml. I know I’ll wear this forever. The most delicious and warming vanilla and cardamom notes, if you can’t get on with gourmand this isn’t for you! A little goes a LONG way, the projection is good and it’s lasts like crazy. I can’t wait for every single one of my cosy jumpers to smell like this beauty.

I really like this! Its like eating a vanilla icecream in a sauna. I get sandalwood and also a cedar vibe. The vanilla is subtle, but balancing and soften the woody notes. Very similar to This is Him by zadig & voltaire, but vanhera is kinder, super smooth and higher quality. Pretty close to the skin. Performance could have been better. 8/10

To me this is SUPER similar to Minuit et Demi by Fragrance Du Bois - and also Changing Constance (Penhaligon's) and Starlight (Xerjoff). I really don’t think it recembles Eau Duelle very much though. Eau Duelle is more about being a juniper+vanilla where Vanhera is a gourmand-ish cardamom+vanilla.

Possibly by favourite fragrance right now. Yes it’s vanilla but so much more. I love it in the cooler weather. It’s a little gothic, unisex for sure. It’s an underrated house and great value too.

Love. Sexy masculine vanilla. I would definitely buy. Think Lui by Guerlain with its classy use of smoke, spice, and pear meets the decadent vanilla of Tihota.

This is pure amber, vanilla and woods dancing together. It's a masterpiece and it quickly became one of my favorite fragrances.

I wrote an IG review where I just said quite a lot about this, usually it's on here I let loose, I hope that's not a trend though because I've been letting my Fragrantica duties slip of late. Anyway... This is an instantly incense infused amber vanilla perfume. I think it's nicely made and there's a fizzy, olibanum in that amber accord in the foreground which smolders (smoke included) briefly in the spicy opening. The vanilla is apparent straight away and could become something I wouldn't enjoy very easily but stays the right side of saccharine. Oh and however put Z&V This is Him down below as a comparator, yes....well done, when it's dried all the way down it does in fact conjure that musky/vanilla/sandalwood/incense of that stellar designer release. Crucially I'll just say that the rest of the time it's not that similar. It's also reminiscent of Antoine Lie works to me, stylistically speaking, but I've learned that it's Luca Maffei who nosed this one, and actually a recent Gallivant I thought was interesting. Do I love this, No. Do I think it's well made/smoothly blended? Certainly. Do I like this brand? I actually do!!! Would I buy this or be excited to wear it again? Not really. If you like that juxtaposition of fizzy and bright resins, warm amber tones, ambroxan and hollow woodiness, sweet but smooth vanillin backdrop, then sure you'd probably love this perfume and you could do much worse that investing in this one. Just not quite for me.

Asweet, creamy almondy vanilla scent that isn't too strong but light- perfect for those who love vanilla but cannot bear the overbearing sweetness of it. and it is also a bit fresh, just a little bit- like the notes state it has fresh spicy notes definitely 9/10- simple yet addicitive. Because it feels like it lacks something then I cannot love it enough so I just like it an overall fragrance but definitely too simple for my nose

a woody smoky and spicy vanilla scent. The opening is great with a prominent cardamom and sichuan pepper notes. As is dries down, a slightly boozy vanilla comes up, along with the woods. It's pretty good for a vanilla lover. Not a huge fan of these vanilla driven scents. Eau Duelle is a better one for me, just because it has a more fresh and spicy element.

Dont expect to get vanilla out of this. It starts off as an amber forward, herbal, almost medicinal note. But then warms up to a woodsy, floraly composition. I even get an olive branch vibe out of this. Its got really good projection and sillage. Dont expect to be wowed by this, but definately expect to be satisfied.

I used to work for MAC, in the late 90s and early 2000s. They had these great perfumes; MV1 (white bottle), MV2 (gold), and MV3 (black). This smells so much like the MV1, which does not seem to appear in the Fragrantica database. Fresh, but vannilic. Green stems and vanilla. Lovely! Easy to wear, casual.

I really like the scent, I wanted to buy it, but I realized that it reminds me a lot of the Lune Feline perfume which I already have, so I didn't buy it. Spicy vanilla special scent

I was expecting vanilla in this scent, but vanilla plays a supporting role from the top to the drydown, only superficially, not as the main scent. Pepper is predominant from the top note, especially the presence of Sichuan pepper, which is present throughout the entire fragrance. It is a stinging pepper. It matches with sandalwood, vanilla and amber in the drydown to create a unique atmosphere, but the sweetness and spice present is not gourmand, this is the realm of Chinese cuisine. Have you ever heard of chinese five-spice blend(Wushanfeng)? From the top to the middle it almost smells like vanilla powder sprinkled on top of that, not sweet. It is the aroma of a Chinese restaurant kitchen. For Westerners, this aroma might be defined as oriental, and it might be spicy and fresh, but for Southeast Asian food culture, it smells as if you have just returned from eating stir-fried vegetables in an authentic Chinese restaurant. After daring to wear the smell of a Chinese restaurant, the dry-down becomes the smell of a temple. This is a consistent "pseudo-Asian" aroma that the West can imagine, and personally, I am tired of tracing a funeral day of eating with relatives during cremation, picking up the bones, and listening to sutra chanting at the temple again. I feel that this scent is perhaps too close to the smell of life in the East.

The first spray is dominated by spices. Cardamom and pepper appear together, bringing a slight sharpness, but there is also a faint sweetness. It is not a sugary sweetness like candy, but the natural warmth of the spices themselves. Personally I like this opening very much, even though I rarely enjoy spicy food. After about ten minutes, the sharpness of the spices begins to soften and the woody notes start to emerge. Sandalwood and cashmere wood become noticeable at this stage, and only then does the main note—vanilla—begin to appear. This vanilla does not resemble dessert-like sweetness. It feels closer to the smell of real vanilla pods, with a slightly bitter edge. Cinnamon can also be detected in the heart, and overall the vanilla feels wrapped inside the woods and spices. The drydown stays quite similar to the heart: woody vanilla with a touch of amber. The ending feels somewhat anticlimactic, without a particularly memorable character, and the longevity is average. Despite the name, this fragrance is not really about vanilla. Structurally it is closer to a spice-and-wood composition, with vanilla acting mainly as a bridge between the materials. Projection is moderate as well.

Vanhera is a very peppery, cardamony, woody, slightly ambery scent. It’s nearly savoury and not quite up to my taste. It’s linear and feels flat on my skin, it doesn’t projects much. I am more a Vanagloria or Kashnoir type of scent wearer. Vanhera is not a bad fragrance, I personally don’t think Laboratorio Olfattivo does bad fragrances, but I am a sweet vanilla fragrance lover! This I would not call a vanilla scent. And it’s not a very appealing scent in my experience. Vanhera has too much Sichuan pepper, pink pepper and it’s heavy on sandalwood, cinnamon and cashmeran. It feels very dry and a bit powdery, dusty. I would conclude that Vanhera is right for people who love a woody, spicy vanilla scent, without any traces of sweetness and that leans powdery. Lasts well with minimal sillage. I noticed that sits closer to the skin than the other vanilla focused scents from Laboratorio Olfattivo. For me it’s just an ok scent, not something that I would like to wear myself. Easy pass.

To the person below who said those who love Apres L'Amour No. 4 would love this... I thoroughly and wholeheartedly am here to prove you wrong. No. 4 (and No. 10 for that matter) is heavenly, ethereal, magical, my faaaavorite. Vanhera is... well... not. I had such high hopes that I would love this house, but so far I've either been indifferent to the fragrances or not enjoyed them. It's boring compared to the likes of superior vanilla/cardamom pairings like Lune Feline and Eau Duelle. The amber/ambrocenide in this is not well done and blended poorly, giving this fragrance a chokingly synthetic chemical overtone. To summarize: Vanilla scented rubbing alcohol. Lasting power is minimal on my skin - it lasted maybe 3 hours at the most and projection is just average. 3/10

Hmmm the opening was really spicy and sharp, I thought I picked out some cumin there. But from then on it became aaaall about the cardamom & heat. I wouldn't think this is vanilla if you didn't tell me it had any. I've had a very similar experience with Nishane Ani, so maybe vanillas don't hit my skin chemistry too well then. I'm not that big of a fan of Vanhera because of that. It doesn't seem that committed to being spicy, nor vanillic. I wish it could be more decisive :( But maybe if Ani's too much for you, and you are after something similar, Vanhera could be what you're looking for!

Testing blind this came across as a woodsy fragrance with a bit of spice and maybe dark fruity elements. But looking at the notes now, something more intense is suggested, but it's pretty mild. Woodsy, yes - hot and spicy no. More of a hint of spice but the vanilla and amber may be adding a hint of sweetness that balances it. It almost comes off as a softer leather sometimes. It's a nice fragrance but its casual, more than hot, but I found the longevity very long, but at an intimate projection. At times I like it as is but more often now wish it had a bigger attitude.

I'm a little disappointed in the one, I get the vanilla in the dry down and pink/Sichuan pepper in the opening, alas, no cardamom. The top notes are quite short lived and then it becomes a soft vanilla that sits VERY close to the skin. After about half an hour I need to be nose to skin if I want to smell it at all. I would like to at least get the occasional little waft of my fragrance, perhaps overspraying and spraying on clothes would help. Anyway, it's a no from me unfortunately.

one of those vanilla cookie scented candles mashed against a prickly ambroxan base the ambroxan does help to steer this nearly into unisex territory rather than pure feminine, and gives almost the illusion of piquant nose-itching spice ultimately I feel there are better vanillas out there but it is enjoyable enough 7.3/10

Thought I was going to like this one, and maybe it’ll grow on me, but once applied, damn this is an Amber xtreme bomb. Maybe one spray to add some vanilla power to another fragrance at night, but this burns me and my wife’s nose. Amber xtreme is definitely polarizing and I’d rather the Amber xtreme be unnoticeable.

Great concept, poor execution. One of the things a well structured perfume should have, is some form of olfactory stability. Of course a scent evolves, but that’s quite different from having a misleading opening or base. This is unfortunately the case with Vanhera. The opening is gorgeous for anyone who enjoys crisp, outspoken spices. In this case, there’s a fantastic combination of green, bitter, sweet, minty Cardamom and Sichuan pepper that makes the more synthetic vanillic base very interesting. Unfortunately this beautiful start only lasts for about five minutes on the skin, after which the fragrance quickly descends into a boring, safe and somewhat cloying vanilla fragrance. The disappointment is not at the end though, as the dry synthetic harshness of ambermax/ambrocenide takes over and switches the vibe from mediocre to annoying. An unfortunate fragrance by a somewhat confused brand.

On me this was a standard niche vanilla, like so many others, with pepper, very nouvelle parfumerie. Like many purely synthetic accords this one had tremendous sillage from a tiny spray and the persistence of nuclear waste. It survived a soak in epsom salts followed by a shower with only slightly diminished strength. OK if you like this kind of thing.

Where is vanilla I don't smell it. It's more like cough medicine at first and then nothing else. I reaplied it two times already during the morning. Very weak and no, I don't spray on my neck or chest. Not impressive.

Insubstantial and a little trivial fragrance. First cold, then hot, first sweet, then spicy. Give me the anxiety believe me!

It’s like sticking something sharp and metal directly into your nasal membrane. Nuclear synthetic “amber” screeches like the most persistent banshee in the world, one spray clears rooms, lasts through showers, lasts through wash cycles if you get it on clothes and I can still smell it in my dryer. Atrociously chemical, noxious stuff, a migraine in a bottle. If you like Thomas Kosmala’s Apres Le Amour, you will love this. Like that scent, I think we’re actually *supposed* to be nose blind to some of the aroma chemicals here and I am unfortunately not experiencing this “correctly,” because if it smelled like this to everyone, NOBODY would find it acceptable as perfume. Some people will be anosmic to it entirely and insist it performs poorly. Be assured that it does not.

I generally like this house and Luca Maffei as a perfumer, but the ambrocenide completely kills this fragrance and drowns the rest of the notes with its sharp metallic character. Feels very unbalanced, but on the bright side has great performance. If you're even the least sensitive to the sharpness in Erba Pura or a lot of Tiziana Terenzi, this might not be to your liking.

This is great and I love that it's a rough, masculine-leaning vanilla that isn't paired with tobacco. First impression reminds me of a hot sauna, as pepper notes usually have that watery, tingly sensation that feel translucent and ethereal like waves of heat rising from a bunch of coals. The wood feels dry, hollow, and slightly smoky, and mixes with the amber and cinnamon in a dirty kind of way that reminds me of cinnamon dusted over an espresso shot. The pepper notes make this feel similar to incense-vanilla pairings, and there's a zingy electricity that runs through the whole thing while being grounded in this dark, hot wood accord. For that it feels like it could work in the heat as well as the cold, as there's a balsamic incense-like aroma akin to frankicense or olibanum that gives it some lift and effervescence. The sweet amber element is certainly there but I'm actually not annoyed by it, even though this could be called a gourmand. It has this kind of rough feel, and the whole structure built around the vanilla feels very edgy and almost a little lopsided. I think that's where it succeeds though- the vanilla brings in comfort, sensuality, and softness to an otherwise hostile environment of heat and wood. To that end it feels unlike other vanillas which lean into other silky smooth and indulgently rich notes that are often more harmonious. Sometimes the release notes are just a bunch of marketing copy without any substance, but here the description of a note fighting for dominance against a suffocating backdrop makes a lot of sense, and as someone who doesn't usually like vanillas, I'm here for it.

Hot (worm) vanilla, and spices. Chilli or Sichuan pepper, woods, black pink pepper, cardamom, Amber, sandalwood, woods notes, and huge doses of vanilla cinnamon that made the sweetness almost cloying. The hot vanilla is kind of makes me sweating and I feel kind of uncomfortable! The creator wrote: "Vanhera: a dark Vanilla, an unexpected fragrance that recalls intriguing and unclear sensations. A journey around one of the most iconic perfumery's notes. A Vanilla perfume, not the usual Vanilla fragrance where just sweet notes are emphasized. A battle, a conflict among ingredients. In Vanhera, a Madagascar Vanilla absolute tries to find a place in a universe of ingredients that want to suppress it. Vanhera is surrounded, almost besieged, by spicy notes of Pepper, Cardamom, Cinnamon; it is embraced by warm notes of Sandalwood and Cashmeran and it is blemished by Karmawood, Timbersilk and ambery notes. Nevertheless, the Vanilla absolute arises and makes its presence felt, conquering heart and soul of whoever smells it." The notes of the creator I just don't see that! I had high hopes for this one in particular, but unfortunately I just can't see what the artist was seeing when creating this fragrance! I can't sense the sensuality other than chilli hot cloying vanilla!

I didn't look at the notes before ordering my decant. This is a Vanilla scent with a big dose of cardamom, with a potential for a nice profile until the Ambroxan/Ambrocenide/Amberwood? bomb explodes and feels like acid going up your nostrils all the way to your sinuses and then stabbing your brain like needles.... If you are sensitive to aromachemicals be very careful or just don't even sample this. This is a chemical bomb, Ambroxan/Ambrocenide and whatever they are calling "Dark woods" (I suspect it's amberwoods another harsh synthetic chemical note) it is just too much. I am so tired of this use and abuse of harsh synthetics in perfumery. When I was younger perfume was about enjoyment, you like a scent or not...now it is about tolerance...I like an scent but maybe I can't tolerate it because of the migraines it can induce, just because of the greedy perfume makers who want maximal profits using the cheapest most toxic elements.

• Vanhera has some great spicy, vanilla, cinnamon qualities from Lune Feline wothout medicinal notes that Lune does • It also has juicy citrus (bergamote) vanilla from Franck Boclet Vanilla with not so overpointing sweeteness. • And also I get some vibes from Blend Oud Sana and Jerobam Insulo. • I found Vanhera as a combination of it all plus clear sichuana and pink pepper notes and therefore I found it as a very attractive perfume! • Love it in summer because of bergamote and love it in winter because of it's warm vanillic spicyness and dry woody, amber and cashmere notes.

This fragrance is super heavy on cardamom, so much that it completely brings the vanilla to the background. The cardamom is just too much. As you see from the notes it's very woody, but it feels really soft and very boring. There’s no real personality to it. OK they did use vanilla extract, but it’s the kind you’d use in baking (the real vanilla extract you see in supermarket), it simply doesn’t really enough for a perfume. It might be okay for layering with other scents, but on its own, it’s pretty disappointing. 5/10

Vanhera is so good! It has a very high quality vanilla absolute which includes its bean, and this makes this juice smell heaven, not like a cake at all, but like a vanilla bean... woody, dark, rich, brown, almost liquorish. It feels like you’re having a vanilla milkshake with its bean, woods and pepper. Wonderful smell, you can’t stop smelling you. On a side note, i found it more of a skin scent, does not project at all even if it lasts a good amount of hours.

This is a unique scent. It’s warm and spicy without being cloying. The wood notes are warm supported by the cardamom and pepper. almost reminds me of a spa or sauna but the vanilla and Amber prevent it from going too far. Only reason I’m returning mine is it has 0 projection. Not even a subtle whiff in the breeze. Nothing. Even on clothes u have to put ur face right in it to smell it

Similar and design and feel to Nerotic. Not that both smell the same, or even share notes/characteristics, but they do share the same 'feel', or they do for me, at least. Vanillic-ambery, woody-spicy, and a bit spicy-gourmand. Pleasant enough, but not something I personally would wear...

I think this perfume would be great if only it did not have Ambrocenide. To my nose, the Ambrocenide overpowers every other note except a little bit of the cardamom. IMO, Ambroxan smells very artificial and chemically, definitely not how I want to smell. It's a no for my dawg.

It opens up on my skin with Sichuan pepper and vanilla and pretty much stay like that, just gets softer and you start feeling woody notes more. Definitely not gourmand vanilla on me. I can imagine wearing it in a colder weather. Very comforting, non gourmand woody perfume.

I quite like Lune Feline and I'm a big fan of Eau Duelle. Blind bought Vanhera out of curiosity, low-key hoping it would lean to Eau Duelle's side. Nope. It's basically a Lune dupe, which I'm not sad about. But it's redundant if you own both, as said below.

Black, smokey, animalic facets of dark(almost dirty) Madagascan vanilla with an ambery base. The top note of sichuan pepper gives a slight bitterness and sparkling effect to balance the vanilla note.

One of the most balanced scents from Laboratorio Olfattivo. Because it's so polished I think this will not offend many people. Unisex I think. Decent performance.
