Amber

Amber, what can I say? For context, I’m a huge fan of Samphire (my signature scent) and deeply admire Laboratory Perfumes for their cruelty-free approach to perfumery. That being said, the name "Amber" is a bit misleading. This isn’t your typical warm, cozy, wintery amber. Instead, it’s fresh, green, and peppery—more akin to an after-shave than a traditional amber scent. The similarity to Aventus and its many clones is striking, but honestly, Amber does it better than all of them. I don’t think Amber was created as a direct clone of Creed’s flagship fragrance; it stands firmly on its own. Additionally, it offers impressive longevity (3 sprays will easily last 8-10 hours) and medium/great sillage. I’d recommend wearing it during fall, early spring, or on cooler summer nights, as that’s when it truly shines. Rating: 8.5/10

MMmm...I can see why the fellas have pounced on this lovely. I love the intense spicey greeness. I like the salty seashore aspect of the ambergris. This is very unisex for me. Its not sweet or powdery but its fresh like a new crisp white cotton shirt. If your not into florals or other perfumey fragrance then I would recommend this for the gals. Its not harsh enough to make it very masculine. I cant say it develops much although the spiciness does recede quite a bit in the first hour. It just remains bright, green, a touch aromatic with the smell of the sea in the distance. I get moderate sillage and longevity.

I quite like this, although I was expecting it to be a bit warmer and rounder. It's dry, peppery, and has a clean, soapy, wholesome vibe. If was a person, out would be a nice, young Mormon man. EDIT: a couple of days later, I've really fallen in love with this. It develops into something deeper and gently muscular. Slightly sweet and spicy. It lasts for ages too!

Won't compare it to Aventus since I never smelled that. What this DOES smell like is Armaf's Club De Nuit Intense Man but without that strong alcohol opening. But on dry down, they smell extremely similar. Citrusy, smokey but not quite as strong as CDNIM but smoother. I'm digging it.

I like to wear this instead of Aventus for places i dont need projection. I would say, for someone who loves aventus and concerned about offenend others at work place, pick this instead. You would not get any pineapple with this one. - May be a BUY (not a certain).

No amber in it whatsoever. Opening is like a fresh green, woody smell, similar to Aventus Or Explorer (Without the signature pineapple). The dry down is more ambergris with a little spice. Longetivity could be better. Not a bad smell if you could find it cheap.

A nice fresh, amber edt that is very unisex. I like the smell of it a lot but it fades almost instantly on the skin

A spicy botanical wood. Amber is like a gin in the forest, not your typical "amber". 🌿🌲 I quite like the earthy, one-with-nature vibe this scent brings, but it doesn't do much of anything. The opening is like a burst of gin and tonic, slowly fading into a mossy-green wood undertone, which feels like background noise. It reminds me of a herbal tea or a hot water bottle, quite medicinal. It's masc-leaning and versatile enough to be worn anytime, anywhere, but I find its simplicity a bit boring, becoming a forgettable skin scent quite quickly. I've unfortunately found the performance to be weak compared to the rest of the brand. After an hour or so, I struggle to even notice I'm wearing it as I have to get up super close before I can even smell anything, and with that, I forget I even put it on in the first place. I could see why its understated approach may suit some, though. I'm a fan of the minimalist, lab beaker design, high-quality niche feel, and an admirably ethical brand at a reasonable price, but this scent just didn't really do anything for me. This feels like it was made for someone else. 5/10 👍

I laughed when I read the notes for this because they are so non specific, but actually EXACTLY what I mentally ran through on the first spray. Honestly, if I were to review in detail it would be pretty much a carbon copy of many others, but in summary I really do find it a fresh, spicy bright opening that is actually really pretty nice and very unisex. For me, the issue is the dry down. There is not one thing wrong with it, but I find the musky wood notes heavy and EXTREMELY masculine - I may just pass this on to one of the guys in my family. Generally, the Laboratory fragrances I have tested are exceptional! Even the blend in this one is really excellent, just not for me. For a slightly lighter coconut scented Laboratory option I really DO recommend their Gorse variant - that is perpetually in my top 5 list.

I bought this as a blind buy and as part of my mission to buy more modern perfumes and to move away from the "big name" perfumes you see in duty free shops at the airport. It's definitely unisex and someone did come up to me and told me that it smelt nice. It's woody and spicy but I don't get any amber.

Smells outdoorsy and very boring. I'd look into the ERIS Parfums discovery set if you want interesting green scents

Is there anything more fun for a perfume nerd than a discovery set to explore a new brand? The house describes themselves as genderless, and the bottles, even the 5ml sizes, are well thought out, simple in design and reminiscent of the kind of simple glass vessels you would find in a chemistry lab. It seems likely that Amber, with subtitle No. 001, is from the brand's original 2012 launch. It's not only a unisex fragrance, but the kind of fragrance that one wears not to make a statement, but simply when one wants to smell nice for themself. It's delightfully fresh, the kind of thing one wears after showering and putting on a clean shirt. I think for most people it would skew masculine but a woman can totally pull this off. If you like Mulger's Come Together, this is in the same wheelhouse. I own too many full size bottles to add this to my collection, but I would definitely purchase it as a gift for a man. I understand the simplicity of the name for the sake of consistency of branding, but really they should have chosen something different for this one. While there is indeed an amber base note, I think most of us associate amber with warm, sensual fragrances, whereas this is quite fresh and bright. It's a soft white t-shirt or a crisp white button down, not a cashmere sweater.

I loved this from first sniff. I have sadly run out of the perfume but have a little burn time left on the candle I got in the same scent. It is warm, sensual and in some way alive, and I can imagine being intrigued and interested if I smelled it on someone I liked. For me, it is an incredibly sexy scent and manages to proclaim its presence without being cloying. I understand that it may not be for everyone. I know someone that found it too much. For me, it is completely unabashed by its own sensuality and seems to suggest you be likewise. If scent had a gaze, this one would be looking at you directly! And probably would have no clothes on! A great scent for autumn to my mind.

Was planning on getting Creed Aventus in the near future... Till I smelled this! Very similar notes and in my opinion with a spray of each on each wrist, Laboratory Perfumes Amber has better longevity and sillage. To my nose the ambergris and spices sit at the forefront throughout its life making it a little linear but oh my, I couldn't stop sniffing! Big thumbs up from me! Oh, shortly after spraying this on the streets of York where I was shopping a man asked me 'is that Aventus your wearing' This is the first time a fellow like minded 'nose' has ever stopped me and questioned me on a fragrance. Kudos to you buddy for such a keen sense of smell!

This is a very green/spicy scent, i know it's labeled as unisex but i can picture a middle-aged man wearing this, it's a mature scent, in my opinion it could be too peppery and strong for someone in their 20s or 30s. I wouldn't purchase a full bottle of this, because it isn't very unique but it's a good scent overall and i'm sure it will be liked by majority of people. and i admire that it's cruelty free and not tested on animals. i give it a 6 because i expected more of an ambery scent.

Straight up Aventus clone and a good one at that. More balanced in the opening than CDNIM, with none of the Lemon Pledge harshness, but it loses out to CDNIM for me due to the lack of smoke. A little linear but a very smooth and pleasant fragrance. Can't speak to performance as only tried it on a card.

I entered a shop the other day and there was only the 2 sales associate girls and I look at them and ask "who is wearing Aventus here" and they look at me and said it's not Aventus it's Amber by Laboratory perfume. Really similar to Aventus, so if you can't afford Aventus this is an amazing dupe.

Own both this and Aventus, Amber is basically a 2D version of Aventus. It doesn't give you that scent cloud Aventus gives and doesn't have that pineapple note, more of a 2d lime. Its a good fragrance at its 80 euro price but it doesn't replace Aventus. Gorse however can completely replace VIW.

Dry down is very 'Aventus' as others have commented. Not sure the opening shares the same pattern, but given that only lasts 20 mins or so, if you are looking for an 'Aventus' substitute that most would not recognize as such, this is definitely one option.

Oooh don't let the name fool you. This is not the usual amber note. Yes it's like aventus, green, spicy, aftershavey, masculine, citrussy. But where is the amber (or ambergris for that matter) I wonder... ***Get in touch to swap samples! UK only***
