Lacoste Original

Lacoste Original 2024 is an aromatic, floral and woody fragrance. Its opening is citrus and slightly spicy with cardamom and bergamot. As time goes by, you begin to notice an intense herbal smell with a certain metallic acidity from sage and something like violet leaves. After about 20 minutes, the herbal smell reduces its intensity and gives way to an aromatic and powdery lavender, which will remain for the rest of the development of the fragrance, accompanied by woody accords of sandalwood and amber. This version of Lacoste Original is a fragrance for versatile and daily use, work in the office or outside of it, both casual and formal situations, preferably during the day, but it seems to me that it could be multi-season and therefore used during any season of the year. Its longevity on my skin was good, lasting 8 hours, with a sillage that is noticeable for the first hour and then reduces in intensity until it is close to the skin. I've never tried the Original 1984 version, but I'm pretty sure they must be nothing or almost nothing alike, because this 2024 version smells modern, contains some Fougere elements, but doesn't smell like the Fougere from the 80s. I didn't expect that I would like this fragrance so much, I found its aroma very attractive, even though it is neither a classic nor an unusual smell, but it is very easy to like. At one point it reminded me a little of Sauvage Parfum.

As is often the case on Fragrantica, newer releases get a lot of hate when they fail to emulate the original fragrance they are named after. But let's be reasonable here, 1984 was over 40 years ago, and molecules allowed in perfumery nowadays are very different. It would be impossible to replicate the 1984 formula. It's a good albeit somewhat generic masculine summer designer fragrance. Citrus, lavender, ambroxan, and woods. Nothing groundbreaking but pleasant nonetheless, and it doesn't deserve such a poor rating. Performance is par the course for Lacoste fragrances. The fresh citrus opening is gone in the blink of an eye, and the woodsy base lasts for ~6h but with a very soft projection so it won't get you noticed. If you like this style of freshy/woodsy fragrances for the summer, it's an okay dumb reach that won't offend anyone and is fairly priced at 50€/100 ml at discounters already.

I fondly remember using this in the south of France to meet a French sweetheart back in 1986 with temperatures well into the 80s. Was thrilled when I saw this re-released and couldn’t wait to see if the modern interpretation would bring this beautiful former scent back to life. Sadly not, and as many have said this has nothing in common with its former self. This re release is a warm amber woody fragrance similar to the dozens of others on the market. I feel that Lacoste wanted their own modern Amber woody product to match many others to my nose this is very similar to Moncler Morning Sunrise which is superior and better blended, smoother and my daily signature. This is not a bad release and I did purchase a bottle for the nostalgia factor however wish the perfumers had been a little more daring and produced something more exciting.

Guys don't trust people when they say oh its bad oh the performance, just go to nearby store and check the smell, because for this one i would give it 10/10, the smell is amazing clean fresh woody spicy unique, it has all the elements together and its super versatile you can rock this all year but maybe not super cold weather like 5 degrees and below, I don't understand why fragrantica gave it that rating it deserves much better. -Scent: 10/10 -Performance: 6-8 Hours longevity with 2 hours projection -Bottle design: Very Elegant -Price: I bought it for Dubai for 200 Dirhams so its an amazing price

9/10 Quand ma mère m'a offert cette fragrance, j'en attendais pas grand chose de Lacoste. Je les ai grandement sous estimé. Il s'agit de l'une des fragrances les plus incroyables que je connaisse, et maintenant c'est même l'une de mes signature scents. Masculin, sexy, aromatique, élégant, et en plus une excellente performance. Un bon sillage et une excellente tenue plus de 12 heures. Merveilleuse fragrance, véritablement. Je le sens encore légèrement sur ma peau après environ 20 heures, cette fragrance est exceptionnelle, l'une des meilleures fragrances designers au monde.

Tried this in the Lacoste store yesterday. I had the idea this was one of their old parfums, but since they didn't have 'Eau Fraîche' in stock, I decided to give this a try in stead. I kinda like it; surprisingly good. Definitely has that Lacoste vibe, which means: fresh, elegant and good for the summer. Produced by Anne Flipo, so obviously it has Lavender (which im a fan of), and it has pretty good longevity: I compared this with the original L12.12 Blanc on my other wrist, and this one was far superior. Once again, a good freshie from Lacoste!

Compared Lacoste Original EDP to MYSLF EDP hand to hand for 3 hours. I have to say that Lacoste is better for me, it's less sweet, more fresh, and I absolutely love it. It is totally versatile. I'm happy I came across this perfume, just by accident, and bought it. Great for all ages. Also Lacoste has a bit better projection, something between moderate and strong.

How much I was looking forward to this “comeback”. The brand should never have discontinued this original, the image of Lacoste. At the earliest opportunity I'm going to buy it and stock up, they won't think of discontinuing this fantastic, nostalgic fragrance again. It was my signature scent in the 90s.

A sporty yet sophisticated fragrance, Lacoste original is far from overpowering and yet possesses a potency that is bound to attract envy from rival lads and praise from dames. After four and a half sprays, the wearer will see that his eyebrows have thickened and his abdominals have become well-defined.

Aromatic - high quality material used.

I tried this today in a perfumery here in France. At first I wasn't sure I liked it too much, I don't think I've ever smelled the original EDT released in 1984 so unfortunately I can't compare. To me it smells both modern and in a way kind of retro so maybe it does share something with the 80s scent, at least a little nod. This is very aromatic with some green aspects thanks to the patchouli perhaps, along with quite a prominent clary sage. I was sometimes reminded of Hugo Man and a hint of something more modern like Montblanc Explorer Platinum with that strong sandalwood in the dry-down (along with something a little more soapy). I appreciated this Lacoste Original the longer I wore it, definitely a 'grower' hope to try it again sometime soon. Edit 17/06; I tried this again, it reminds a bit of the recent (and in my opinion very good!) Azzaro Chrome Parfum which I actually bought but have yet to really wear (going through a tough personal time/loss and don't want to create bad scent memories), but I had gone through a few samples of that one, they're not identical but have some similarities, although the Azzaro is unsurprisingly a little more marine/aquatic.

This is my favorite summer scent this year and even if it has weak longevity, the smell is good and overall pretty decent. The amount of hate from recent reviewers is weird, and I cannot detect the cardamom accord here. I also think that this "original" tag describe the lineup of scents and does not mean that it refers strictly to the Original Lacoste bottle in 1984. Just take a look at the new Lacoste Original Aqua and Lacoste Original for women. For sure they don't refer to the original Lacoste released in 1984. It's just a marketing ploy and if you're an experienced perfume connoisseur, you should be able to tell the difference. Overall the scent is very similar to Hugo Boss Unlimited, and I'm already on my second bottle. This is my first blind buy this year and with the recent geopolitical tensions and the incoming scorching weather, this is my weapon of choice here in the UAE. 7/10

Nose Note #789 It's like an amalgamation of Lacoste L.12.12 White, Essential and Essential Sport. I don't now, but to me it's just screaming "Lacoste", so in a way the fragrance is true to it's name - Lacoste Original. The true Lacoste. Lacoste scents have never been strong performers. Or to put it in other words - they all in my experience perform rather badly, below average in exchange for being all-year-round no-brainers - almost all of them. It's just a decent kind of generic aromatic freshie. Not childish, it's more of a 25+ scent. Nicely masculine. Could be cheaper, but that's a typical Lacoste cost. The bottle is probably the best thing about this release. It looks better than it smells. 6.5/10, most people will find this pleasant

Modern fresh-minty, sour-soapy, grassy aromatic frag. Notes; mint, aldehydes, orange, vetiver, fennel? Dill? Juniper, some balsamic-amber notes, finished with conifer wood aromas. It's light and breezy with a cooling effect, bit waxy on the skin. Performance; soft projection but longevity is 8hrs at least, and it does remain fresh the majority of this time. Masculine, designed for summer but inoffensive and so wearable all year, daytime. Suits ages 20-60(ish.) Does resemble Platinum Explorer but this is cooler, (as in fresher,) and more wearable. I like it.

What is wrong with the perfume industry?! And what’s wrong with your noses... I blind buy this yesterday cause on Fragrantica people compared this edp with the original edt. There’s no way that this new Lacoste fragrance (wth do they cal it original anyway!?) comes near to the 80s citrus original edt. This one smells like a formulation bought on Temu, filled in a back room along with other nasty chemical naussia making moist like Armani profondo, Baldessarini signature. Anyone wants to have it?

I'm not a good person with notes, etc etc, but this perfume is a lot like from what I remember wearing this as a female teenager (i'm 37, so it was 20-25 years ago) and what I remember my dad wearing. Dad has been searching for a replacement for his old preferred perfume forever and never really found something equal to the old Lacoste - I'll probably buy one for myself and have him test it to see if he likes it.

I haven ́t tried the original from 1984. But if seen as a standalone product it ́s a nice, versitile, inoffensive freshie. Has the fresh, light Lacoste DNA suitable for summer. And I like it for what it is and wear it occasionally. Safe blind buy, as I did myself. Moderate longevity and projection, as is expected for a Lacoste fragrance. Conclusion; Pretty good, safe buy

super fresh and clean. reminds me of warm summer evening on the amalfi coast for some reason. unfortunately - for me - it’s not really long lasting. however, i feel like you can never go wrong with this cologne cause it’s a solid summer perfume that will be fool proof for daily use. not too overpowering, good smelling and chic.

I dont know the original and I dont care. Lets focus on this Millennium guys 😅 Like it better than expected after Reading the reviews here. Quality scent, fresh and sporty for the young at heart. Anne Flipo is very skilled and respected in the community and I recommend that you give it a try 👍🏻

Just had a spritz of this in a store. It's a spicy/fresh perfume. Longevity and silage are both OK. Nothing like the original Lacoste (which was gorgeous). This one is just OK - no WOW factor here. A chance missed by Lacoste here. I would buy it if the price was reduced.

ok so it's a blue without being blue it's marine without being marine it's a Versace Dylan blue but it has nothing to do with it it has this wild DNA but in finesse it's very woody dry sandalwood marine citrus mineral really it's unique I took three days to understand it

To me, it's slightly minty and citric. Patchouli and sandalwood give it some extra earthy woodiness. This seems like more of a "dad" cologne, which isn't a bad thing. It just isn't the type of fragrance that I'd wear as a younger man.

A solid, but generic woodsy scent with decent longevity. This fragrance seems to be hated by a good amount of people but personally, I see nothing wrong with it. 7/10

A lovely, fresh aromatic scent. It’s perfect for the office or casual daytime hangouts with friends. Unfortunately, the longevity and projection aren't very high.

I have been using the original Lacoste from 1984 till somewhat 2015, when it became hard to find. That and Aqua Di Gio were my signature scents for a very long time. I already read the other reviews and I was warned but I couldn't resist to try it myself. And indeed, this has NOTHING to do with the original Lacoste, NOTHING! To me, it smells a lot like Varvatos Indigo xx, very aromatic, spicy, artificial. I love the oldschool Lacoste so much because of it's out-of-the-shower freshness, the lemon opening combined with the more woody drydown, perfect for spring and summer. This one is a whole lot sweeter and warmer, completely different DNA. It's not a bad scent as such, but it doesn't do much for me and I don't understand they make this look and feel like the old one. :-(

This one has good pepper and herbal notes off the top. Not much citrus for me but it was there at first. The base is woody and creamy. Good but not great. It’s kinda like a jack of all trades, master of none thing. It’s a good sample for someone who wants a subtle spice to their scent...but there are many better alternatives. This is good for anytime of the year. I liked this sample enough that I’ll wear it again. 5/10.

Smells nothing like the original and, adding insult to injury, extremely uninspired. It's not a bad fragrance per se, just not really interesting at all and the price point doesn't match what's on offer scent wise. Definitely a miss for Lacoste.

Smells aromatic and woody, not special at all. This smells very common and generic. That cardamon is the only thing I like in this fragrance. I rate it a 5.7/10

Synthetically and cloyingly sweet. Feels very low effort and cheap.

This bears little resemblance to the '84 original EDT (which was just called Lacoste), although if you're sharp you can pick out a fleeting similarity about 4 hours in. This fragrance is widely derided as being "unoriginal" and generic/designer, and gets lambasted even more for a perceived departure from the vintage DNA. The problem is the '84 formula was very mid. There, I said it. For everyone claiming it was some sort of wonderful fragrance, the answer is no. Lacoste '84 was a good fresh-green masculine for its day, with crisp citrus, galbanum, lavender, a bit of piney green spice, and a fresh, soapy musk that segued into a very basic oakmoss base. It was very nice, but ironically very generic in its time. I say "ironically" because that's exactly what Inter Parfums gives us with this 40-year anniversary EDP. Generic. But good generic, also of its time (i.e., now.) Sweet citrus that reads as grapefruit even though it's possibly the fruity nuance of pink pepper interacting with the bergamot to give that effect, followed by a sagey pink pepper accord mixed with an intense blast of violet ionone and nitrile materials that are, if I'm being honest, a bit harsh. They die down within 30 minutes, but only enough to let a great big resinous heart of sagey elemi, patchouli isolate, and something that smells an awful lot like olibanum break through at high volume. Eventually, within 5 hours, that resinous quality adopts a grassy and piney galbanum-adjacent accord that recalls the original scent, but this only peeks out for an hour or so before the Amber Xtreme and Ambroxan bulldoze in. If you'd presented Lacoste EDP to me 10 years ago, I would've curled my lip and asked you to get the f*ck outta here. But having recently worn Creed's Wild Vetiver, I'm here to tell ya, Lacoste EDP isn't all that far off in terms of quality (though quite different in scent). These are robust, expensive smelling synthetics, and yes, you can find them in YSL's Y and many newer Rabanne releases, but here the blend by Anne Flipo smells balanced, tailored, well conceived. It's a little too loud, but this is the post-Covid era we're living in, and the industry is paranoid that you can't smell anything, so every other brief is nuclear with a 5,000 year half-life. All of this is to say, I like this fragrance. It smells familiar but green and woody and spicy. It smells loud, but tastefully done with hints of a retro style tucked in. It smells designer and generic, but if anything should smell like that, it's Lacoste's flagship masculine. This fragrance was the definition of generic in 1984. Good generic, not bad generic. I think it's fitting that the reissue clears that bar, and then some.

I think this is a really good fragrance for what it’s meant to be. It smells like a clean, fresh shower gel or freshly washed clothes with fabric softener. It’s perfect for the office or anytime you just want to smell clean and put together. As it dries down, it develops into a pleasant semi-sweet woody scent while maintaining that fresh, clean vibe. To the average person around you, it’s simply going to smell appealing. I don’t think this fragrance is trying to be groundbreaking or overly complex—it’s designed for those moments when you just want to smell fresh, and it succeeds at that. If you enjoy YSL Y EDP or Ralph’s Club EDP, you’ll probably appreciate this as well. I’m not saying they smell alike, but to the average person catching a whiff, they give off a similar clean, mass-appealing impression. It’s an excellent dumb-reach fragrance. Performance is solid. I got around four hours of noticeable projection, which is perfectly respectable for this type of scent. It does exactly what you need it to do, and that’s really all you can ask. I own around 300 fragrances, and this will definitely be part of my rotation for work and running errands. I’d recommend picking it up without overthinking it. That’s not what this fragrance is about. It’s an easy, versatile, clean scent that does its job well.

When I first smelled this I said this is fu*** Dylan Blue with more complexity. Probably super long lasting due to heavy Amber-Ambroxan base. But despite this comments here, I don`t its that unique. Do I want it ? Absolutely yes. Because somehow its still really versatile and ''thick perfume'' in my definition. You can`t expect a bad performance from this and scent of it is really mass appealing. Bottle of this fragrance is also really cool if you care about displaying them. I also noticed, this perfume doesn`t die and loose its top notes during the mid dry down, super fresh. It feels like you are wandering in the Irish forests. This would be your safe choice guys, you can buy it blind and expect a good performance, at least on the textile. Overall 7.5/10.

I have never tried the original so I can't compare. So based on its own merits this is excellent. A clary sage beast; but I love that note so that's not a problem for me. It reminds me very strongly of Platinum Montblanc Explorer (also great) if you own this you don't need Lacoste. The only real difference is that the Lacoste has an original bergamont blast which is very pleasant. This is a new release but it has an old school vibe; nothing like the new big hype releases like Polo 67 and YSL Myslf (again both excellent) just different. Longevity and projection is fantastic. However this may be a little linear and simple for fragrance afficandos. 8/10

I tried it a few weeks ago. I didn't really love it since i wanted the oakmoss and citrus bomb of old and i got nothing close to thy. Anyway, i came here to say that i detect on it a dominant coumarin note which gives a slight (But clearly noticeable over the rest of the composition) dry tobacco feel from moment 1, i find it quite similar to D&G Pour Homme but sportier. Didn't love it but if you do, it's nice enough. From the house i prefer stuff like Blanc and Blanc EDP. Best regards

The only reason that this fragrance gets hate is because it doesn't resemble the original formula. The truth is that I bought a 25 PC designer sample kit from Dillard's, and this was one of the standouts from the entire kit. I really like it. It's slightly woody with a nice spicy base, and would be perfect for daily wear for a mature gentleman. Don't avoid this because of the hatred, at least try it first because it's quite nice and you never know what DNA may work perfectly for you.

Not too much to see related to the 80's powerhouse, a chypre of the old school. Anyways, this has a bit of that DNA but much more modern, ambroxan, modern woods, bright, sharp lavender, nice citruses of synthetic origin. Modern, much easier to wear and like than the OG. I don't know if lovers of the classic will like this, but the other way around, probably not. Hope this aromatic, classic taste remains in the 2020 decade of perfumery.

In the modern world, perfume corporations, for some reason, began to imagine that we - perfume users, are ready to fork out a ton of money for a low-quality chemical liquid that they produce by the hectoliter and call perfume. No, guys, we won't pay much for such an air freshener. Bring back the original version of "Lacoste Original", and then we'll give you our hard-earned money.

Pour ceux qui sont adeptes de l’ancienne version Celle ci et juste horrible rien à voir avec l’original Quel dommage encore un super parfum d’époque massacré , j’ai failli l’acheter à l’aveugle heureusement que je l’ai senti aujourd’hui sur paris 3/10 pour être sympa J’espère que ça pourra empêcher quelqu’un d’acheter sans connaître et d’être hyper déçu

Solid all rounder type scent. Smells modern, fresh and 'put-together'. Longevity is good, lasts all day on me with only 3 sprays. Could be used in most climates/seasons without issue. Not particularly unique, but pleasant nonetheless. I'm using it as a work fragrance, and it fits the bill well. As an added bonus, the bottle is very nice.

I like the OG which is green, aromatic and bitter. This new version is completely different. It is a bit sweet, a bit clary sage, a bit dusty. Nothing to write home about. Modern but not shining. It is boring like polo 67. It reminds me of lagerfeld grey classic and MB Explorer Platinum for the woody dusty side

Tried yesterday, was never aware of a previous edition. Loved it, bought it after wearing it for 20 minutes. Its the day after and can still smell it in my hair. Its a beautiful scent. Masculin, soft, handsome. Ambery, slightly peppery, slightly grassy/herbal. Its a great summer night, warm air scent. 9/10.

Smells exactly like Ferragamo Acqua essenziale blu which got discontinued, so this is awesome to have a clone of that which smells more similar than dylan blue. Also this is quite powdery and gives off a lot of cypriol oil/papyrus which should be listed in the notes but it isn't

Absolutely gorgeous. Classic without being dated. Bright, uplifting, fresh. A balanced trifecta of aromatics, citrus and aquatic vibes in all the right places. Can't go wrong gifting this to anybody. PS: the scent profile is much nicer on this than the Parfum version.

Everyone here is tripping, and most are crying because it doesn’t resemble the old formula. I never smelled the original (wasn’t born then) and don’t care. This is just a good daily frag. Nothing special but this is easily a dumb reach daily for spring/summer days.
