Echo Lake

A fragrance that makes me feel like I'm at a spa, or like I just stepped outside on a very cool very early summer morning––simultaneously fresh/citrusy and cozy/woodsy. It's dewy and crisp, made me wonder briefly if I was smelling eucalyptus or green tea alongside the bergamot and lemon, and then the perfect amount of a slightly warmer honeyed sweetness starts to peak through. (the Lake & Skye website lists mint leaf as a top note, which makes a lot of sense! but I'm not getting the rose, and the only honey-adjacent note might be the labdanum?) Only complaint is that it sits so close to the skin and disappears so, so quickly; after a couple of hours I can't smell anything, even with my nose to my wrist (update: ran through my sample in just a few days, remain obsessed with this one, bought a full bottle in lake & skye's farewell sale since this is being discontinued! considering buying a second...)

It turns out Lake & Skye has other fantastic fragrances beside 11 11! Echo Lake is a beautiful light scent that has more projection than 11 11. It has a feeling of nature like being out on a walk in a green mossy forest. The juniper and bergamot keep this fragrance light and refreshing without being sharp or like a cleaning product. To me this fragrance smells like an herbaceous cocktail the likes of a mint julep in that it is refreshing and herbal but juniper and bergamot instead of mint and lime. I would wear this year round but for someone who is not a fan of fluffy florals or astringent citrus perfumes, this will likely be my spring to summer scent.

This fragrance is one of my absolute favourites, I don't care that it's not practical or it smells like cleaner. The opening is sharp and citrusy; it's as if I crushed bergomot and juniper berries in a mortar and pestle. It dries down to a softer woody cedar scent that's great for everyday wear.

I got this as a sample in an Ulta reward and I'm absolutely obsessed. I love love loooove this smell. Unfortunately I am poor and cannot wear it 24/7 but I would if I could. Perfection

I am surprised at the proportion of negative reviews. I put off purchasing Echo Lake because of them, but I disagree with most. Echo Lake, to me, smells like a slightly warm, creamy balmy frankincense-tea tree-bergamot blend. It smells therapeutic and spa-like, very fresh but not necessarily light or sheer. I also agree that it smells like some drinkable tea, though I can't specify which one. It's not a complex scent but I find it soothing and pleasant. Definitely reads as a natural perfume but it has decent strength. I need to note also that Fragrantica's note list is incomplete: the full list per the website is bergamot, lemon, iris, frankincense, vetiver, tonka.

The notes on the website are: bergamot and lemon, with notes of iris and frankincense in a base of vetiver and tonka. On my skin.... A gin & tonic with a generous dash of citrus with a peel on the rim, on a cedar table. Zesty and fresh on me. Office friendly and cheery. Unisex.

Love this. Super unique. Dries down to a sweet scent, probably the sandalwood, and the bergamot dries into a sweet dessert-lemon type smell. Citrus smells usually give me a headache but since this dries down so quick to a subtle scent, I am safe from this one

Love this! It’s my go to gym scent. Smells fresh, slightly woody, citruses come through but there’s a beautiful powdery touch with something honeyed which I don’t know where that’s coming from but love it.

I'm surprised at the strong negative reactions to this one. It's slightly more daring than the brand's popular 11:11, but most things are. This one opens with a fairly sharp lemon note (the "household cleaner" phase some pick up on), but mellows into an aromatic, resinous citrus thanks to the tonka and frankincense, topped with the lightest dusting of powder thanks to the iris. The juniper does add a slight gin twist to the composition. The tension between the aromatics and resins is interesting, creating a fragrance is both warm and cool feeling. In that sense, it does remind me of being by a lake in springtime, where intermittent breezes on the water can make the atmosphere vacillate between balmy and chilly. If I have any criticism, it's that the competition of cool, warm, and powdery can feel a little bit muddled and unresolved, but overall, I don't mind this. It's by no means a dupe, but it's a distant cousin of Byredo's Gypsy Water and Tocca's Collette, minus those fragrances' sweet vanilla.

Smells like a cleaning product at first. It's certainly not unpleasant, I actually quite like the smell. But I'd rather my freshly cleaned floors smell like this, not my body. "Fresh Spicy," "Aromatic," and "Citrus" are accurate. After dry-down, it does become a tad powdery and starts to veer towards baby scented products. I don't particularly smell any sandalwood. This scent is relatively light and inoffensive. It lacks depth. While I personally wouldn't want to smell like this, I wouldn't think badly about anyone else that smelled like this. I probably wouldn't even really take that much note of the scent in all honestly - I might assume it was their laundry detergent or something.

Echo Lake makes me wonder if I'm easing up on my professed dislike for dry powdery fragrances? Possibly, maybe, almost. 3/5 stars for me.

I never want to throw perfume samples away; ones I don’t care for I’ll usually at least be able to spray as a room freshener or give to my kids to spray but this one needs to go in the trash. The initial scent is just gross, a lemon cleaner on some wood with something green mixed in. It fades to become slightly more tolerable but I just do not understand the concept of this scent at all or anyone wanting to wear it!

Yeah, I can definitely see why this one is not a hit. It is pleasantly Citrus, and that is initially all you smell. But then the Bergamot and the Sandalwood make the Juniper smell unrecognizable. A shame really, bc I typically like juniper as a note, a lot. I do not like this juniper scent. The longer I smell it, the less pleasant it is on me.

Really good performance, however unfortunate for me. I get a very clean smell, but bitter and unpleasant, like a bathing with a heavily scented soap I don't care for. I keep forgetting I put it on to test this morning, and every time I get a whiff I wrinkle my nose. Good for someone maybe, but not for me.

Very powdery. Almost baby powder. I should like this one, based on the listed fragrance notes. But something about it is really unpleasant to me.

Bathroom cleaner + car air freshener. If that's your thing, you'll love it!

Just like with Canyon Rose, I’ll leave my thoughts only because no one else has. This is the most masculine scent of the discovery kit by far. And it honestly has notes that I’ve never really smelled before - notes that aren’t listed on this site right now. There’s something aromatic, that I have to assume is frankincense in center stage. This is really a great, but bazaar (to me) scent. I think it’s blended with the acid of the lemon and tempered by the bergamot. I could see iris imparting that odd depth. There’s something oddly edible to this smell, like a dessert or tea I’ve never had before - the juniper? As this wears, it gives me musk late into the evening, but that may be tonka I’m smelling. Overall, I would be delighted and intrigued to smell a man wearing this. It’s very un-self conscious, very comfortable in its skin. The woody, vetiver base wants to give visions of a lumberjack but it’s just not so avert as all that. A modern man, the type who buys T-shirts in bulk and puts away at least 20% for retirement but can hold his liquor and change your oil.

So bad like really freaking bad . I can appreciate a fresh Citrus but this... just straight up lemon house cleaner, granted I would almost say lemon house cleaner smells better . This is so sharp and headache inducing that it’s even too much for a room freshener as well I haven’t been able to spray it on my skin more than once. Biggest blind buy fail. I love several fragrances from this brand 11:11 and 11:11 azure being my favorites so when this was on sale for 28$ At tj max I quickly grabbed it thinking it would be another charm to add to my collection. But no. I haven’t even been able to find anyone to fragrance swap this with .

It's bad. Really bad. The only okay part of this is the late drydown, which is a faint skin scent after about an hour's time. For the brief amount of time it's projecting, it smells like some kind of savory dish cooked with lemon in the worst possible way. It is just completely unappealing. I think I'm going to return this for the $35 I paid at the rack store - if I had paid the $100 asking price I would be losing my mind.

This is for the perfume oil. After not smelling the fragrance for more than 20 minutes each time I’ve worn it, I saw that it is a 100% all natural fragrance just like Canyon Rose from the same brand which performed about the same. It’s pretty and fresh and citrusy in a fresh lime peel with aromatics, but I just wish it lasted longer. It’s clean and fresh regardless.
