Chypre Silver

***update 2 months later*** Ok, So Lalique Silver (NOT Chypre Silver) is absolute a "Maturation MUST". The top notes of sweet Cardamom, Lemon and Thyme now lasts much longer into the dry-down and actially marry beautifully with the leather/Patchouli base. Also the whole composition does perform better two months later, but although this fragrance does last about 7 to 8 hours on skin, it is NOT a very big projector and sits sorta close to the skin, but with 7 spritzes I am catching small yet noticable wafts of it throughout my entire work shit. Lalique Les Compositiones Silver is most definately worth waiting for the Maturation process to take it to its intended beauty! It NOW seems that this fragrance has more "presence" whereas before it would start off strong, but would then go into a plain, leather note which was very, VERY faint in the dry-down to where I could barely smell it at all and was truley a real bummer bc I do enjoy this scent. Well now Silver is one of my TOP Lalique fragrances within my Lalique collection (and that's sayin' A LOT.).. A 9 outta 10 fragrance which is NOW deemed a "STELLAR FRAGRANCE" (Imo ofcouse! 😁). Be BLESSED🙏 ----------------------------------------------------- So, I just got Les Compositiones (Silver) which is the one that actually matches the notes list here on Fragrantuca, so YES, as @delancy mentioned two reviews down from me, (Chypre Silver) does NOT match this notes list and thats according to the pamphlet that came with my fragrance😉. Now, as far as my initial impression of Les Compositiones (Silver), it smells BEAUTIFUL! Opens sorta strong, but then unfortunately Silver seems yo get weak, weak, WEAK within an hour or two (Even on clothes) but especially on skin😏! it also seems to have poor projection and again even on clothes, it just does NOT seem to last which is a real bummer because I've been wanting to try the Les Compositiones forever now! Now I must admit, I have noticed that most of my Laliques (except for a couple) needed weeks to months to "Macerate" so that the fragrance can open up, maturate and then the improvement is quite drastic from when it was initially sprayed. For example, BOTH Encre Noire and Encre Noire L'Extreme needed well over A MONTH to where they would get the great performance they now have, but when Id first got them the performance was truley ABYSMAL as was the case with a few of my other Laliques. So Im REALLY just hoping that this juice evolves into something more substantial. (For now) The longevity is about 2 hours on skin and a bit longer on clothes, but even on clothes the scent devolves into a faint leather smell within 3 hours or so. Also, Silver seems pretty masculine, I wouldnt even call this unisex, so Im not sure why this frag was marketed for women. The sweet cardamom in the opening along with the Thyme and Lemon smells fantastic, then VERY SOON it starts going into a faint, smokey leather dry-down while almost completely loosing the beautiful Top Notes. Im REALLY hoping that "Maceration/Maturation" does the trick here bc this fragrance could be STELLAR if only the top notes lasted into the dry-down, and also that it was better performing all around. I got my bottle after a batch from this line hit the discounter sites (though some of them had wildly different pricing, which I've seen on a few other brands), and understanding that my chances of ever getting my hands on a sample (and having had so much faith in Lalique) I blind-bought the fragrance in the line that I figured was my best fit. Going to echo the high praise this one is getting. Extremely unique and engaging fragrance - it opens up with very strong lemon and an almost candied patchouli, balanced out perfectly with the grassy galbanum. A genuine warm-weather-suitable patchouli opening - so unlike anything else in my warm-weather bin. I think Lalique's own Hommage Voyageur actually has the closest opening, but it's a much drier vetiver-patchouli - decidedly masculine whereas this is truly unisex. It does shift more towards a powdery-vanilla drydown as the lemon fades away and the patch loses some of it's intensity but there remains a hint of the galbanum bitterness and the earthy echo of the patch throughout. It's never out of balance and develops very nicely. Beautiful work, and the only reason I designate this for warm-weather use is the size of my collection - otherwise this does strike me as quite versatile.

I blind bought this due to the reviews here and my experience with a blind buy on Lalique Oriental Zinc (which I love). I've been on a bit of a Chypre kick, desperately missing Chanel Pour Monsieur EDT, which is sadly no longer sold in the US and I don't have the funds to be traveling internationally right now. Not that Chypre Silver smells the same, but I do love this style of scent. Its very elegant, well-blended and comforting. It feels luxury and expensive, without screaming it like so many niche fragrances (you can smell the credit card bill associated with a Parfum de Marly fragrance as it walks in the room). This reminds me a lot of Grossmiths' Golden Chypre, but at 1/4 of the price. The dry-down is wonderful. This can easily be a signature scent.

Everything about this fragrance is class. The bottle is typical of Lalique elegance. But holy smokes, the scent... There is, at the core, of it, a classic masculine, bordering on old school, accord. It feels familiar- a classic Chypre. But there is also something woven into it that modernizes it without disturbing the nostalgia. It reminds me of a beautiful historic building that has been retrofitted with modern amenities, the best of both worlds: hand-carved wood moulding with WiFi and LCD TVs. Cardamom is perhaps the modern touch that blends so well with the classic lemon-leather-vetiver-galbanum combination. Lalique ups their already stellar game. Hard to find but worth the search.

Ok this switched from like to love for me, as it has grown since I've first got it. It's not a typical "freshie", it's pretty upper class smelling, and sophisticated. Reminds me of older fragrances that I would smell in the 80's as a kid. Is it dated? I don't think so, but definitely takes inspiration. It's in the realm of dior eau sauvage but does NOT smell like it, more like it's in the same class of family. Probably my favorite from this line with Electrum coming in as second. Sorry for the double post, but I didn't want to edit and make it one super long post, besides to me they are totally different experiences/viewpoints. Lemon forward opening with herbal dry down.

Very underrated fresh and elegant scent, this is a Vetiver bomb with great lemon opening, the cardamom is gentle and balance, and a hint of leather hidden beneath it somewhere. This is a BEAST mode on my skin, with great performance and longevity, i get 12+hr every single time and it never seems to stop projecting. Silver Lalique is sharp enough to cut through the cold winter, two sprays on my arms and I can still get a whiff of it the next day. To my surprise, my nose didn't go anosmic to it as I did with Aventus. This is a hidden gem for sure, the quality is simply outstanding!

This a great great modern chypre. It smells wonderful. A great office scent with over the average longevity and silage. It's zesty, aromatic, warm, grean, earthy with dancing patchouli and leather in the background. A spectacularly crafted masterpiece that considering its price is at discounters, it's a steal IMHO. Since this is already a masculine leaning frag, I would have loved this even more of it had a tiny dap of smoke or birch. And like all other frags in this line of Lalique, I really dislike their atomizers.

This is a chypre style fragrance (yes I have silver, not chypre silver). It's starts off really rough and I wasn't sure I would like it, but around 15-30 mins the dry down turns into a spicy metallic note that's definitely niche but not overwhelming. Overall I rate it a like. PS: who is rating "smells like"? This smells NOTHING like l'hommage, mefisto or any Fahrenheit flankers. There's no violet in this and this isn't a citrus freshie. Some of these picks are ridiculous.

NOTE! Many of you might already know this, but the notes presented here are for Lalique Silver. Fragrantica messed them up and ‘combined’ them into one here rather confusingly. Chypre Silver, while similarly named, is very different from Silver. The Bottega Venetas and other chypres in the Reminds me of section refer to Chypre Silver, which to me is a modern interpretation of a classic (unisex) chypre. Both are good in their own accounts.

An invigorating scent that leads with a refreshing peppery lemon (that never leans into ‘cleaning product’ territory), enveloped in a woody, herbal cloud that, when settled, blend beautifully together. This is my slightly-cool-sunny-morning-in-June fragrance. Optimistic, wearable for many occasions and age ranges, expensive-smelling, and signature-worthy. Amalfi coast, 1957.

I'll echo the praise this one is getting. The greatness of Silver boils down to the fact that it manages to be a lot of things at the same time, and yet retains a character all of it's own. It's classy, regal, retro, modern, comforting and sexy. Silver is a perfect, signature-worthy all-year-rounder that lasts, projects nicely and uses great quality materials. A must!

This is very close to Bottega Veneta's namesake fragrance; leathery aromatic chypre. I'd say Chypre Silver is spicier and more readily aromatic in its opening, stays green throughout its life. Perfect for transitioning weather, so spring & autumn, potentially cool summer evenings. Strong projection for the first few hours, definitely noticeable during the day.

Aromatic Fougere at it's best. In my opinion the best of the line. Opens up with a great lemon cardamon scent. For a citrus it last more than average. The leather, vetiver and patchouli are perfectly well combined and the longevity is also excellent.

Here are the real notes. Head: bergamot, mandarin, violet leaf Heart: turkish rose, arabian jasmine, orange blossom Base: patchouli, leather, benzoin, musk A beautiful dark scent, a similar style to Black Orchid but with Jasmin.

This is the sophisticated leather fragrance I hoped Midnight in Paris would be. The metallic notes elevate the scent from its surroundings so it stands out without needing to be overpowering. Excellent.

I love this one. It performs well for me. It smells mature, classy, sophisticated, refined... Sometimes I wear it with a suit. I'm currently wearing it in my shorts on the couch. Magical!

Simply said....A MASTERPIECE. One of the BEST I have EVER smelled. I must own this someday !!! WOW...WOW.

This is a review of 'Silver' (2015 release), not 'Chypre Silver' (2017 release). Both are discontinued. The pyramid shown here matches Silver (2015). That said, I doubt there is a real difference, despite the different pyramids published. Marketing? Anyways, let's dig in: It opens with a sweet pastry-like lemon/orange and cardamom. Shortly after it will slowly tone down to let a bitter galbanum note fully bloom, with support of floral, and later on a smoky facet given by the vetiver stepping in delicately. It will finally drydown with a refined black leather note, supported by a touch of green labdanum. Average overall performance. Cardamom is a tricky note to work with for a perfumer: it is part of many blends with standing out, but its intensity might crush the other notes when overdosed and I wish all the perfumers had the mastery shown by Karine Dubreuil with this blend. Indeed, the cardamom, in spite of being very noticeable and having its typical sweet undertone (a facet I am no fan of), is kept airy and perfectly counterbalanced by the bitterness of the galbanum. Furthermore, the very noticeable smoky leather in the base (a bit of moss possibly also) is definitely black, but kept thin and elegant: no biker jacket here, but the smell of a chesterfield sofa. Definitely a classic chypre structure, with a touch of originality and a contemporary finish. The galdnaum and vetiver combo will give that metallic facet the perfumer probably looked for to fit the fragrance's name. Lalique confirms to be once again a very solid house. Over the ~15 fragrances I tried, nearly all were good to great and at least half were full bottle worthy in my book at ebay/online discounter pricing. And that's the thing: like for all the fragrances of Lalique line-up, I think that the full retail price ($250) is ridiculous, that said, at discounter pricing (~$70), it's well worth it and this one might be the most refined I tried of their line-up. As much as I love it, this is a A- for me in terms of scent, and my quest for the perfect A Lalique fragrance is still ongoing. But in terms of value, (nearly) all Lalique frags get A+ Summa Cum Laude. In a nutshell: this fragrance personify cold/classic elegance with a contemporary twist. Again a hit by Lalique! Fall/Spring days, warmer evenings, 25+ @Sauvarghhh: it is my guess that Silver (2015) and Chypre Silver (2017) are the same fragrance. Probably just a rebranding and marketing readjustment of the olfactive pyramid to change form the inital unisex marketing (2015), to a gender specific marketing for the relabelled collection (2016-current). I don't think there has been any reformulation, as it would be utterly expensive and wouldn't make sense to do so at just a couple of years interval. The 2017 pyramid includes madarin and rose for example, and I clearly had an orange-y feeling in the opening of this 2015 edition. Furthermore, I can really see how the sweetness of the cardamom combined with the galbanum (2015) gives an impression of floral (2017). Thus, in my opinion, it's just a packaging and marketing remix, that said I haven't smelt the 2017 bottle to compare - just a logical assumption.

As soon as I smelled this, 2 fragrances came to my mind as comparisons: Robert Piguet Cravache & Nicolai Parfumeur New York Intense. I have now tried all 3 of these fragrances (still own New York Intense) and can say they all fall on the same continuum: Cravache = sharpest & most bitter-smelling; lack of relief from this harshness causes this to be the most old-fashioned of the 3 Silver = less sharp & less bitter than Cravache due to the balancing out caused by a "clean/fresh out of the shower" accord that I suspect is caused by the vetiver; this is more modern for sure but your nose can clearly pick up the traditional references New York Intense = the richest smelling of the 3; there's more of a smoothness & powdery aspect here (Luca Turin called it "powdery biscuits"); depending on the weather and how it wafts off your skin, your nose picks up different facets of the scent; this is not sharp at all but there is some SLIGHT bitterness to it To me, Cravache is not an easy wear - it attacks a person's nose in an unpleasant way. Silver is the better option if you want that classic chypre-type accord (bitter citrus/green opening with leather/earthiness/resins coming up the rear) done in a modern-friendly way that works ALL FOUR SEASONS. But if you want the RICHEST & SMOOTHEST experience where your nose gets a full course meal at the risk of not being able to wear it casually, then go for New York Intense. This, and also the other Dubreuil-Sereni creation for Lalique Les Compositions are outstanding. The opening in this has a herbal dimension, something which I always enjoy. It then proceeds to a combo of both heart and base, which is a mesmerizing galbanum-vetiver-patch-leather accord. The leather is soft and luxurious. There is still a hint of citrus and thyme throughout. In this respect (i.e. the way it develops) it reminds me of Bel Ami (the vibe not the notes). If you're looking for a leather cologne with citrus and light spice you can do a lot worse.

The best Lalique next to Voyageur. Thyme, Galbanum and Vetiver is what makes this a beautiful elegant chypre. The colors that come to mind are yellow and green, so silver is a bit misleading. The leather used here is light, very silky and transparent, altogether being wrapped in an herbal composition that ends nicely with a touch of patchouli and labdanum. Overall, Silver would be a wonderful addition for Spring, but some would call it versatile. Its up to you.

Very 'Swedish architect'. An office/boardroom/business sort of a scent. In my mind this is up against Platinum Egoiste, Grey Vetiver, possibly Timbuktu. The drydown is lovely and longlasting but (unlike other reviewers) I find the opening sharp and challenging (bitter). Which could well be the galbanum. It's a good but not great scent, so just a like from me. 3/5

A really fantastic scent. It is fresh in the opening, almost sharp, but it rounds out completely to show off the galbanum tour de force it is. Unfortunately, while the opening is on the masculine side, the drydown is very feminine with a borderline vanilla/sweet accord, so I don't think this is something I can wear as a man. Great quality in this bottle though.

It's ok, longevity is average 6-7 hours then sits closer. Projection is moderate for the first 3 hours or so. I kind of get a Polo green vibe when it's first sprayed only not as in your face. That was when I first got it. I let it sit for a little over a month now. Still has that toned down Polo green vibe in the beginning. But I'm noticing something that I didn't in the first wearing. There's like this slight motor oil type of smell that I catch in the air when I move about. Not exactly sure what note or combination of notes that could be producing this aroma. Could just be skin chemistry. Other than that, it's very pleasant fragrance. In my opinion I think this suits more formal situations than casual. Definitely comes across as high class especially in the opening. Although pleasant, I think I'll part ways with it. Anyone interested PM, looking to sell or trade. Only missing 10 sprays, still have the full presentation. Even though the box leaves a little too be desired. Folds open like a eyeglass case, black and the closure is magnetic.

@AndytheFrenchy your edit is incorrect. @Sauvarghhh is correct, "Silver" and "Chypre Silver" are two separate fragrances and not a re-branding or name change. Fragrantica really needs to create a separate page for "Silver" as it is definitely a separate fragrance from "Chypre Silver." Even more confusingly this page is for "Chypre Silver" yet the notes listed on this page are actually the notes for "Silver". The reviews below are a mish-mash of people reviewing two different smelling fragrances under the one-page listing. To help people out if they come across this and are confused: Chypre Silver is more of a classic chypre type and the one that has been compared to Chanel Pour Monsieur, Robert Piguet Cravache, Nicolai New York Intense. Silver is the one with the cardamom bomb opening and dries down to a more robust, almost "smokey" leather and labdanum base.

Just a gorgeous scent. The quality is amazing. It's really rounded and transforms slowly. It nicely fades out. All the stages are well balanced. The vibes it brings are very romantic. It tells to people that the wearer has a style and fine sense of taste. Just one spray and for 8-10 hours the fragrance projects friendly, sunny emotions, but without screaming. It keeps your secrets.

This is a true old school aromatic fougère gem. Its green and has a very good quality barbershop feel to it. I like the citrus blend going on in this fragrance. I had the opportunity to get my nose on this in downtown Seattle at a very nice boutique called Parfumerie Nasreen. Wat a class staff and nice selection of high quality fragrances.

Nice dry herbal with some zip and soft smooth base. It smells vintage to me, like Rive Gauche or a similar chypre with the green herbalnotes, but this is smoother and not as loud or brassy. I do get a faint plastic undernote in there somewhere but it's mostly ignorable. My sister loves this one.
