Nilang 2011

Nilang was originally launched in 1995 and its inspiration was the lotus flower, which is a watery flower considered sacred, closely linked to the image of Buddha and whose meaning is spiritual purity. Its rich symbolism evokes powerful meanings in diverse cultures and Lalique thought of representing this concept through an oriental and floral fragrance. In the vintage version, the bottle represented the lotus flower itself. In 2011, almost twenty years later, the market was different and perfume manufacturers were eager to conquer, with all their efforts, the Asian market and the countries of the Middle East. That's why countless mass market brands have started to launch exclusive collections only for such places. With this focus, in 2011 Lalique relaunched Nilang in two versions: a new Eau de Parfum and an Extrait de Parfum, with a bottle made of crystal, bringing the flowers on top and decorated with gold. A luxury! This review is about the 2011 EDP version. The composition also changed a bit: the vintage version had a floral power on top, lotus flower on the body and a more gourmand base, with vanilla and praline. For this reason, it is possible to find several reviews commenting on its similarity with some perfumes of the Angel line (Thierry Mugler). In this 2011 version, the lotus flower arrives at the front, along with several fruits. The floral bouquet passed to the body of the fragrance and the base became less sweet. The Extrait of Parfum version still has exuberant notes of tuberose and rose. Let's check the composition: lotus flower, peach, mandarin and melon, in the output; Freesia, water jasmine, clove and blueberries, in the body; Sandalwood, amber, vanilla, musk, praline and a touch of patchouli, in the bottom. Nilang is a fruit and floral bomb, the kind I have not felt in a long time, especially regarding the perfumes launched in the last decade. It is very common to see powerful female fragrances of the chypre and gourmand families. The fruity ones are usually more diurnal and airy. But Nilang goes against all this and it's stunning. The first time I tested, I immediately thought: "peach, peach and more peach." When it touches the skin, the nuance of peach is juicy and balanced by the aquatic content of lotus flower and melon. It could go wrong, but it's perfect. Then, as it evolves, floral nuances of jasmine and freesia are more present and impart a velvety content to the perfume. The projection is absurd and the evolution is slow. When you think you are no longer exhaling, comes the surprise: the base is dense and woody rather than sweet. On my skin, sometimes, it smells like damp wood. And to get even better, it lasts for more than ten hours. Undoubtedly, Nilang is a gem amid the crystals of Lalique.

Is it the lotus or the clove note? I can't tell but something in this perfume didn't work well at all on MY skin unfortunately 🤷 It's not a "hate" but a "dislike". I bling bought it cause I love patchouli and was curious to try something with lotus in. I'm willing therefore to sell it to someone who appreciates it more instead of having it standing here in vain. It's also not "safe" to gift it in my opinion otherwise I would have given it to somebody. So if anyone wants it, let me know. I'm located in Europe and the perfume comes together with a full tube of body lotion. By the way, I read some people finding it similar to the Angel by Thierry Mugler. Personally, I don't find any similarity whatsoever. The only thing I can say is that it is as unique and unusual as Angel is. UPDATE: I don't know what's going on with my nose but I catch myself loving perfumes that I used to dislike and not tolerating others that I thought I love! I was about to get this perfume ready to be posted on Marketplace and other websites for selling and gave it one last try as a "goodbye". I was shocked! A BEAUTIFUL and -unusual from everything else- fragrant aura surrounded me and soothed the depths of my sinuses and soul! I felt so glad that I didn't sell it and gave it a last chance and it's now one of my favourite perfumes! So beautiful & elegant, feminine, not "silly", fresh & warm and exotic & classic and airy & watery. Wow! What a treasure ☆ I'm so glad that I kept it!! ^_^ It never ceases to amaze me how differently our noses interpret fragrances in different period of times ♡

This is definitely worth picking up if you're looking for something fruity, strong and durable with personality. I don't like saying "not for under 30s", but in this case, just "mature" might be a bit flat. This scent is a little bit soapy from freesia, and while I can't find any animalic dimensions here, the ripeness of the fruits, especially the melon, combined with the patchouli makes the scent a bit dirty like animalic, reminding me of some vintage shows. The scent is not so fresh or "uplight" and can easily become overpowering too. Still, I preferred to use this in the summer, it also has a nice body of aquatic and the heat makes the scent open up beautifully. Neither I wouldn't compare this too much to Angel, this isn't a playful licorice scent, although the patchouli after the drydown is quite similar. The drydown also reminds me somehow of Guerlain's Black Perfecto too, but without that licorice. All in all ;as much as I love this scent, I'm glad to leave my bottle until next summer. Bye.

This baby deserves more attention. I like it a lot. Starts with the sweet smell and slightly musky scent, of a ripe fresh juicy cantaloupe melon. Quite rare note, I would say. And the smell lasts for a while. Then comes the patchouli and flowers. Dry down resembles to Coco Noir. But who cares? I will wear it with the pleasure anyway. So special! Soft and whispering. Powdery and slightly sweet. I love Lalique fragrances – so well balanced. Dreamy and perfectly beautiful! Have fun with it - no matter which season of the year!

Review is for the current version. I really like this! The silage and longevity are very good! And that's important to me. But of course that wouldn't even matter if it didn't smell good. But this does. It's very fresh and feminine. Very pretty and unique. I don't think I have anything else that smells like this. I think it's enchanting. Also, regarding the comments saying it smells like Angel. Hmm. Not in my opinion. If I did compare it to Angel, it might be 50% similar. But not enough to say it smells like Angel.

Mature and challenging fragrance. One of the best I had. I received many compliments wearing this one. It was a special mix, comforting yet classy, sweet as a Belgian chocolate yet watery, serious yet playfully acting. On my skin, it was a golden mix of melon and praline, but nothing uterly smooth like Angel because of the rough spicy cloves. Made me feel like a knight-princess, proud and sweet, different and free.

Sweet, fruity patchouli, with depth and complexity. Alot like Mugler's Angel EDT, particularly the Sucree edition. I like this a lot. It's just beautiful on a sweater in the cold. I have not smelled the original, but this is lovely.

Beautiful fragrance. It reminds me of angel, so I will not be adding angel into my collection. Moreover I prefer this. Love to wear this fragrance in the winter. It is at its best then.

Very unusual fragrance in my collection. I have so many sweet gourmand and oriental floral scents that this fragrance is very different from the rest. It's a welcomed change which smells very strong but fresh. The sillage and projection are above average. The longevity is also above average on my skin. I think I'll be able to wear Nilang in all seasons because it is not very sweet. There is definitely an aquatic accord in this scent which makes it lovely and watery in the summer time. This is a mature scent which is definitely noticeable. It lasts forever and a day. Great value and a hidden treasure. I will enjoy it.

I want to like this perfume, but I find it a little cloying. It is very strong when first applied, but settles down after about 10 minutes. It smells very oriental to me, with strong lotus and jasmine. It's a mature fragrance, probably better for evening than day. Something I would wear on a winter evening out. The scent lasts and softens over several hours.

This is a very special scent because of its aquatic side which floats around the oriental core of the composition. It reminds me also to Thierry Mugler's Angel but in a less sweet and a lighter edition.

Its a nice fragrance. When I first tried it on, it reminded me of something, but I couldn't put my finger on it. It reminds me ALOT of TM Angel!

At first it seemed too tart, but this really grew on me, moderate lasting warm weather scent and decent sillage.

So..at first, when I just bought it-I have opened the package and I asked like:"What? What this odor is? Cologne? Men's cologne?". Then I have sprayed it on myself and I really felt only men's cologne.. BUT.. I was applying this perfume after, just 1 spray per day (for to understand this fragrance better). And now I finally assumed- this is a masterpiece!!! This is very crispy fragrance, transparent, a little bit biting in the air, fresh and at the same time, sweetish. I would say, Nilang 2011 is very unusual among of many other modern perfumes. Sweet notes of melon and of some dessert +sour notes of blueberry+slight touch of a flowers + patchouli. Reminds Chanel style of a fragrances with its.. retro notes?

По никакъв начин този парфюм не прилича на Angel! Не се лъжете от другите ревюта. Да, много силен, мощен и шлейфов е, много траен, много сладък, но тук основно преобладават пъпеш и праскова, пачули почти не се усеща, има много ванилия, но още повече бонбонени нотки. Карамфил се усеща, но в поносими дози и лек дървесен нюанс от сандаловото дърво. Като цяло плътен, хубав аромат, който сякаш звучи по-скъпо, отколкото струва, но не е моят аромат.

Opens with sweet fruity notes and nice flowernotes. Too sweet for me. In base I can smell sandalwood, amber, vanilla and Jasmine. A great every-day-scent, but not for me. I re-tested it again today on my skin. It was very overwhelmingly oriental-sweet. I didn't get the major patchouli note, that was pointed out here. I get a sweet melon-vanilla-florals-blueberry-smell out of it. Somehow it's like massively sweet honey. For me it was too much of a cloying blast to wear it.

I do not know the original, but I found this new Nilang edition very interesting. I'm into orientals that are well-balanced. But I have to re-try before buying it.

the first I can to smell the melon, but very light,not as Issey Miyake,more later is as Angel but soooo light.I don ́t know the old Nilang,but this not for me :-(

Sweet and spicy. Some time ago I liked it, but now I find it far too overwhelming. Crazy blend of intense ingredients, like too loud music.

First spray and for the next 10 minutes I get a lot of fresh citrus, but most of all pineapple, even though that is not listed in the notes. It must be the combo of melon, perhaps the lotus along with the other citrus notes that smell very much like pineapple to my nose. There is a bit of floral hanging around peripherally. Sillage is soft and close, longevity on me as a skin scent is about 3-4 hours. A pleasant fragrance especially in warm weather. I will say that I have tried several Lalique fragrances in the past few months and I like this one the least. It is just ho-hum to me. I would like to compare this to the older version of Nilang.

To know, how does it smell - try this: take a glass full of Fanta orange drink, put some sugar into it and squeeze two really ripped red citruses in it. Sniff directly into the fizzy bubbling thing. You got the smell! This is the opening, after a round one hour comes some patchouli with amber without red citrus, but very quiet. The whole composition is long lasting, full bodied, rich, not complex and odd. I tested it on hot and humid day - just fantastic. Remindes me a bit on Bond 9 Broodway nite or TMuggler Angel, but Nilang 2011 is much softer and - somehow nicer for me.

I am SO DISAPPOINTED in the 2011 version of Nilang. If you compare it to the 1995 version, the 1995 version is rich in color, the fragrance is strong and lasts until you wash it off. I am forever receiving compliments on this fragrance. HOWEVER, the 2011 version is watered down!! You can see it by just comparing the color of the two bottles. I bought the 2011 version, because I was so excited that Lalique renewed the fragrance after discontinuing it years ago! I would not buy this again! Too bad, Lalique! Your clear attempt to cut costs compromised your quality!

sweet flowers.to me this is almost a chypre floral/fruity perfume instead of floral fruity.it smells similar to liberte by cacharel.patchouli,sweet notes,flowers and fruits;this combination makes it smell like syrup.I can't say I go crazy for this one as at the same range there are other perfumes I like better,but the bottle's nice,just like all of Lalique perfumes and if you like sweet chypre perfumes,you're gonna like it.

Just wore it today for the first time and... I really don't understand. It's both good and bad. Sometimes I would get rich, fruity vibes from it, other times spicy in a rough and heavy sort of way. It smells like sweet fruits on my wrist and on fabric, it smells like elegant patchouli in my hair, it smells bad and cloying on my neck. I am confused.

Nilang so close to Angel & innocent by TM and Lolita lampica , complex yet sweet patchouli scent it starts with a very strong & almost stomach turning patchouli & melon then it calms down and turns to a mix between angel & lolita lampica .. cozy warm sweet very nice for winter nights lasting power & sillage are very good too

I never smelled the original Nilang, but the new version is rather close to Thierry Mugler Angel. Nilang smells like a less gourmand and sugary version of Angel with even more agressive patchouli aura. It starts off very patchouli-sh, then becomes creamier and smoothier, like a watered down Thierry Mugler's creation.

it reminds me of Tom Ford's Black Orchid! Sweet in the begining but after 20-30 minutes..... NO! A very Hard scent comes to my nose! Becomes too bad! hard! and heavy! pitty because i thought it would be a cheap alternative for Black Orchid.. :/ ( Sorry for any grammar mistakes)

Don't think it is a mix between Angel, Innocent and Coco Mademoiselle, it is quite a potent fragrance, and has pretty good longevity especially on clothes even in hot weather, this is defenietly a sweet-fruity fragrance, nothing else but fruits.

i have sample of both version . there is in common but the new one is very flat not complex and rich as the original which have best longlasting as well - nothing special....very dissapointed

So different comments.For this parfume the best, Very cool smell.even a bit heavy,not for summer time.but very nice in all other seasons. I bought it and I love it,

smells similar to thierry mugler Innocent,but more flowery and classy..projection medium and longetivity very nice..for a truly lady:)

it is the same smell exactly of the perfume i put its picture above citruss jasmine and same long lasting or say sour jasmine

This was a blind buy for me. It's sweet and floral. I get the Angel comparison, but I can wear this one in hot humid weather.

spicy, sweet, very strong, good for winter.
