Perles De Lalique

Blind buy, and so far I have just done a paper test, but I love it so far. A deep, jammy rose, overlaid with pepper and a veritable forest of wood scents. It's sexy but also sort of androgynous. I haven't smelled Femininité du Bois yet, so I can't speak to its similarity (discussed in an excellent Fragrantica appreciation of that perfume, which is how I found out about this one). However, there are aspects of it that remind me of both Rose Flash by Tauerville (a scent I have in rollerball and have adored for years) and also Nirvana Rose by Elizabeth and James, which I also like a great deal. I think the pepper and woods notes might be a trifle more pronounced in the Perles de Lalique (the bottle is insanely elegant, too, especially considering the price of the whole shebang), but it's similar enough to those perfumes that I could see it fulfilling a similar need. To my nose, and at least on paper, the sillage and projection of the PdL are superb and probably superior to the NR and possibly even the RF (although it is unfair to compare a spray to a rollerball, and unfortunately I just have RF as a rollerball, so I can't compare apples to apples, or in this case woody rose chypres to woody rose chypres). Anyway, I'm excited about this one and hope to compare it to other Nathalie Lorson creations once I can do a skin test. Update: wearing more generally on my skin today. It has a bit of an alarming opening, but it calms down quickly to a beautiful jammy rose with pepper and woods. The iris barely peeks through, but it seems to reinforce the vegetal forest vibe and make it a bit powdery, too (although musks also seem to be prevalent). This is a very elegant and autumnal fragrance, and I like it even more than Le Parfum, my gateway into Lalique fandom. Update: My husband described the scent as a "fancy pet store," which is what he often says when he smells a prominent cedar note. (At least it isn't a dirty, pee-soaked pet store, lol.) He does like this scent, and I'm going to try to get him to wear it, since to my nose it is extremely unisex, despite the jammy beautiful rose. To my nose, Perles de Lalique smells more like an enchanted (maybe haunted?) library deep in the forest, a library that's generously stocked with roses and old books, old wooden index cabinets filled with mystical ciphers. The hints of camphor up top confer a bit of an old-timey coughdrop vibe: Maybe the forest librarian has a bit of a cold? The wallpaper looks like rich green velvet, and then you notice that there's oakmoss growing on the walls. In fragrance, as in life, one person's enchanted sylvan library is another person's fancy pet store. Some Fragranticans describe the woody notes as smelling like pencil shavings, which is something people say whenever they smell cedar or any wood notes at all. As it happens, I have always adored the scent of pencil shavings, so it works out great for me. I'm certain now my enchanted library also has a pencil sharpener, the old-fashioned metal kind that is bolted to the desk. How I loved using those sharpeners in grade school and high school--so satisfying!

As someone very new to the world of fragrances, this is a wonderful scent. My first blind pick (and only second perfume I've owned, admittedly) all of the notes listed had me very interested, and fairly confident I would, at the very least, not dislike it. I was correct, it smells lovely. From the perspective of someone unfamiliar with distinguishing notes, it is a woody scent with a light and feminine air to it. I believe the main note I'm getting is the vetiver, as it reminds me a lot of my oils and some of the more common incense sticks I've smelled. I do not pick up on the iris or the rose, however I'm assuming those notes are there to soften the base notes rather than compete with them. My family agreed they mostly get a wood-based essential oil smell. With this in mind it is still a great perfume, but if anyone has a recommendation for a similar perfume with more emphasis on a powdery scent, please let me know! As far as negatives, this is hard to discern for me at the moment due to my inexperience with perfumes. However I can confirm it certainly does not smell like pencil shavings, I am well familiar with that scent. Perhaps this scent could lean too masculine for some, but I find it too soft to say it would suit most men. That being said, could be a very intriguing and refined fragrance on the right guy. Overall, if you're a woman that isn't a fan of the obnoxiously sweet or intense floral scents prominent in the world of perfume, in my opinion this is a great perfume to try out, largely due to the accessible price point. On my skin it lasted about 6 hours, and is still lingering! I was careful not to overwhelm my nose with it, so it's possible that if you overspray, it could lead to olfactory fatigue. If you're looking for an earthy perfume with a soft, elegant twist, it's definitely worth a sniff.

As a man, I freakin' LOOOVE wearing this "Dapper" unisex-leaning feminine fragrance! Its close to perfection really... I do wish that Montale or Mancera would re-create this dna so that it was BEAST-MODE! But alas, Im sure its not "Modern" or popular enough for that to happen, but no harm in dreamin' right?!.. Now, I do have some excellent advice if ya want Perles de Lalique to last and even keep the opening a lot longer both on skin and clothes.😉 Now, since Perles de Lalique is Iso e Super heavy already, I tried spraying additional Iso e Super (OVER) a few spritzes of Perles and the Iso e just blends seamlessly with Perles and makes it last much, MUCH longer! I was a bit concerned at first bc when your nose "Figures out" how to actually sense Iso e Super, theres NO mistaking its awesome, woody aroma, and it even becomes quite noticable and very long-lasting. Since Perles de Lalique is NOT a super strong fragrance I was worried that the Iso e may drown out my Perles like it had a few of my other "weaker" scents,, but it did NOT! It must be bc Perles is already so Iso e heavy to begin with? Idk, but man does it work! I recommend having a good bottle of Iso e Super anyways bc it truley does help any fragrance last longer, but outta my 150+ bottle collection, I think that Iso e works just about THEE BEST with Perles de Lalique out of the few fragrances Ive experimented layering with Iso e thus far (My idea of "fun" lol!)! Beautiful, unique, DAPPER, genderless CLASS in a bottle! Rose for all! I so love the Black Pepper and Rose combination. The way the black pepper stands out wo making this an ultra spicey fragrance is genius imo. The patchuli plays along well in the composition wo over powering the black pepper and rose while the vetiver sits in the back ground helping make this more "unisex" while still leaning just a tad bit more feminine, yet absolutely do-able by us gents (There are WAYYY more Feminine leaning frags out there which are "marketed towards men" these days). It's like Nathalie Lorson is a Sorceress who practices Alchemy with her oils and poitions and then purposefully making her fragrances affordable and attainable so that she can put more of us under her spell! For example, Lalique's Encre Noire (One of my all time faves) manages to be Dark, Brooding and Foreboding while also being Smooth, Ethereal and Bright all at the same time?... FREAKIN' MAJIC YO! I LOVE Lalique and ESPECIALLY Anything by Nathalie Lorson. Again, Perles De Lalique is such a "Dapper" smelling fragrance and just helps make anyone wearing it feel more "Well put together" especially when dressed up a bit for work etc.. I would like it if this DNA was a bit better performing, but after learning that Perles contains a good dose of Ambroxin, it may just be that Im going Nose-Blind after a few minutes, plus we have the dreaded (Reformulation👾Goblin) to worry about. A 9 outta 10 fragrance which would be a 10 if it lasted and projected better, but again, (AMBROXIN)! LOVE Perles De Lalique! Thanks to whomever took the time to read my review!😉

Perles is a love at first sniff! I wish I'd discovered it sooner! The patchouli and rose combo in this is so tasteful and addictive! It's a well balanced, mysterious fragrance that makes me think of the many folkloric tales of White Ladies - ghosts of women haunting old castles. It is a beautiful rose and patchouli with earthy yet fresh, cold, spectral notes. I'm so glad that this isn't powdery in an annoying way, or sweet. There is a slight scent of precious incense layered within the prominent rose and patchouli.. But no oriental heaviness to it! It's light as a ghost! Admittedly, I'm at a loss for words to accurately describe this scent. It's such a good, unique and timeless blend imo! It's perfect for folks who like mysterious, unsettling scents, and would like their scent to reflect an effortless spring/summer night goth vibe. Although it's totally wearable all year round. I'm thinking ghosts, moonlight, strings of white pearls and roses on velvety black robes, walking through a private old castle graveyard, reading a book in a rose garden on an overcast day. As for Perles' supposed similarity to Midnight Poison - I have to say that they do share a similar vibe but only in the late drydown (several hours in). However, while the base bears similarities, Perles leans significantly colder and spectral, while MP remains hypnotizingly sweet in comparison. Perles is amazing when layered with Encre Noire, for an added dark forest / old church vibe. Also great when layered with Passion de Night (a dupe of Midnight Poison by Dior).
