Absolue Rose Or Die

Oh my goodness, I am instantly in love with this one. An authentic tea note that can be traced from the start, and it pairs beautifully with the rose. I was honestly expecting this one to have a darker profile, as Lancôme’s own description implies a bit of smoke. Instead, Rose Or Die succeeds in retaining a melancholic touch without sacrificing its airy quality. I am utterly delighted, overall. Soft, fresh, light, cool— a touch damp. Evocative of having an evening tea next to a lily pond in a rose garden. Quiet, save the croaking of the frogs and the sound of wind on the misty water, the air fragrant with plants. Dark Academia’s spring dream. There’s a park I used to visit often for reminiscing, and it reminds me of that waterside, a line of florals creeping along, and the way the lights from houses and stars would reflect in the distance. The air was always cool and clean, and memories were made vivid. I liked to visit only when it was dark enough to barely see, creating a soft focus on everything immediately before me. Smelling this one captured one of my favorite places in such a lovely way. As I continue obsessing, the dry down reminds me of Poesie’s Soft— which has a warm and clean rice profile I can never get enough of when applied. This has me torn, as I can buy several bottles of Soft at Poesie’s price point. But the opening and journey in Rose or Die is why I’m here. If you’re a fan of rose scents, this one will not disappoint. Diptyque’s Eau Rose comes close, but that one is a true, realistic, nose-in-the-bouquet profile, whereas Rose or Die encapsulates a world in which the rose takes part. How saddening at the lack of a travel size and hair mist. I would gladly touch up on its soft sillage if these were available. I hope to find a similar profile where I can layer without straying too far from this one’s beauty, as I’d hate to go through it quickly. Gorgeous, yet costly. Worth it? I’d say so. I’m completely smitten.

I... Love... this.. perfume. The tea and rose. Oh gosh. I alson sensed some cardamom.What that scent is coming from (maybe from the Guaiac wood) i don't know, but I really love it. Anyway this perfume is on a price point i can't afford. But i have a simple cheep rose perfume from Aura me and Valentino BIR green stravaganza and together it got me a similar scent profile/vibe good enough for me 🤩

Overall I was unimpressed with the Absolue line, but this one is an exception. Beautiful black tea and rose. There is definitely bergamot in there too. It's quite simple and linear but very well done. Very fresh, with a bit of depth from the lingering cedarwood. Overpriced for sure, but I ended up going for it anyway, taking advantage of a discount at a retailer. I have to add that the name is terrible. The whole line's names are just awful. I'll never understand why Lancome thought these off-putting names were a good idea.

First impressions this is underwhelming, I sampled as I was curious to see how it compared to Costa Blanca Musk. I don’t find this to be too similar, CBM has more complexity to it. This one is not bad, I could understand how some may find it pleasant but you also don’t need exquisite taste to conclude this isn’t anything to write home about neither. To my nose it smells like a generic jammy rose scent, almost indistinguishable from any other perfume you might smell walking past the Macys perfume counter. I also think of expensive skincare, the type that has rose fragrance added. For $270... I think you’d make more of an impression with Rose by BB&W no shade...

More tea than rose, a nice but pretty forgetable scent, calming and easy to wear. Lasting power is ok (~5 hours), sillage intimate.

هذا العطر ليس جيد، والسبب كالتالي: الشاي وخصوصا الاسود هي خامة معقدة وذات تفاصيل، لكنها خافتة وهادئة، وتحتاج هدوء وانفراد لكي يبرز جمالها. اما الورد فهو على العكس تماما، صاخب ويطغى على اي رائحة اخرى معه. الشاي اذا لم يبرز كنوته اساسية لايظهر منه الا انطباع (داكن ارضي ترابي) ولكن لاتظهر التفاصيل الاجمل للشاي، العشبية والاحتراق والنوتة المهدئة للاعصاب والخفة الهوائية هذا ماحصل هنا، الورد مستخدم بنسب عالية فالمزيج الذي ظهر هو ورد مع نوتات داكنة، بعد ان يخف الورد بعد ساعه او ساعتين تقريبا يظهر الشاي بعده، ولكن وقتها يكون الفوحان قد خفت كثيرا. بالتالي الورد والشاي يظهور بالدور خلف بعض، وليس (مع) بعض، وهذا انتقادي كان يجب ان يكون الطاغي على هذا العطر دفئ وخفة وهوائية الشاي، مع لمسة خفيفة من حدة الورد، ولذلك العطر غير ممزوج بشكل جيد ايضا، نوتة الورد هنا صناعية اكثر من اللازم مقارنة بسعرها ٦.٢٥/١٠ - This fragrance is not good, for the following reason: Tea, especially black tea, is a complex material full of detail, but it is subtle and calm, and it needs quiet and isolation for its beauty to stand out. Rose is the complete opposite. It is loud and overpowers any other scent paired with it. If tea does not stand out as a main note, all that remains is a dark, earthy impression, while the more beautiful aspects of tea do not appear, such as the herbal facets, the smokiness, the calming notes, and the airiness. That is exactly what happened here. The rose is used in high proportions, so the resulting blend is rose with dark notes. After about 1 or 2 hours, once the rose fades, the tea finally appears, but by then the projection has already weakened significantly. As a result, the rose and the tea appear one after the other, not together, and this is my criticism. What should have dominated this fragrance is the warmth, lightness, and airiness of the tea, with only a soft touch of rose sharpness. For that reason, the fragrance is not well blended. Also, the rose here is too synthetic for this price tag 6.25/10

Rose Or Die smells exactly like a slice of key lime pie topped with a heavy dollop of whipped cream, ...and a splash of rosewater. Of course, what suggests creamy lime to me, ...is actually an eccentrically constructed tea accord, according to Lancome. Overall, this fragrance ventures halfway into gourmand territory, and is certainly pleasant enough to sample. However,, its actual wearability will depend on how much one wishes to embody the sensation of being a curiously rich and indulgent dessert. Also, what is with that pointlessly dramatic name?? What could ever make this scent in anyway seem a matter of "life or death"? ...or more objectively, what is the possible marketing benefit of alluding to any fragrance as a "parfum fatale", let alone, such a sweet and creamy semi-gourmand?

Just divine. Linear, simple, cold but pompous. Sexy, vintage, dark And as I said earlier, even though it's a fresh perfume and I'm almost cold, it has that fake heat, that impression of a sumptuous, rich, honeyed perfume that it doesn't actually have It suffocates you with a cold hug. Like some kind of death does. I love it ...Even though it has that light luxury scented shampoo effect that the whole line has, it's a bit like the smells you find in makeup and face creams. As someone wrote the prices are already exaggerated Lancome must know that we are not all born yesterday it is not enough to write absolute on the bottle and offer a high concentration of synthetic oils to justify an amouage price.

This scent is so divine I am convinced the people who disliked it either got scammed for bunk fakes or just have diabolically bad taste. I buy it directly from the Lancome website and it's always a beautiful, opulent black tea & rose scent that's aromatically sweet, but not cloying or overly sweet. It's intoxicating whenever I get a whiff of this. It's one of the best feminine fragrances I've ever smelled. This is an EXTREMELY enjoyable perfume. Easily the best in the Absolue line, and one of the best Lancome has ever produced, ever.

Sweet cozy early grey tea, infused with rose and a very soft woody background. Linear, no development here, it's sweet but not cloying, feels fresh. Not much projection though. I like it but this is grossly overpriced. It should be around $80-130 what they are asking for such a simple scent is just an insult. Sample it first. I got some samples but really, unless this hits the discounters I am not buying a full bottle.

Today I tested Lancome's new line at my local department store. I imagined Rose or Die to be similar to Stella McCartneys first rose fragrance but it reminds me much more of Mandragore by Annick Goutal. The tea note is quite prominent here and gives an Asian vibe to the scent, whereas the rose is barely detectable in the background. Beautiful, but no real rose scent.

Smells like money. Wealth. Think Rebecca Hall and Ciarán Hinds in Closed Circuit. It's a crisp and clean rose, a bit green and a bit woody. No detectable ambroxan, thankfully (though it's probably there being we're in 2024 and can't seem to escape this scourge). Outstanding.
