Climat Parfum Extrait

My interest in exploring and adding more vintage perfumes to my collection has intensified over the last few months. I remember when I smelled a first-year sample of Hermes Caleche and I was blown away by the captivating beauty of its aldehydes which modern formulations fail to capture, much to my chagrin. The original Climat Elixir offers a similar stunning, ultra-chic aldehyde-dominant profile, coupled with a deft use of narcissus, lily-of-the-valley, violet, and a handful of other notes to create an absolutely timeless feel. My heart quickens a little every time I smell it as I connect to classic perfume ingredients (many not used anymore, sadly) in a visceral and emotional way. I love it. I can see why authentic bottles of this discontinued treasure are so hard to find and so expensive. I paid a pittance for it-- a precious, full original bottle found in the back of a cluttered curio cabinet at an antique mall-- and will gladly add it to my rotation, though I imagine only wearing it for really special occasions as it is too precious!

Mother used to wear this always when she traveled in May to Vienna to visit her older sister, my aunt Therese, so for me this is an association to my chocolate gifts she would shower me with, on her return. It is etched deeply (and dearly) into my scent memory as a mum-travel-scent, but not mumsy. A big aldehydes bomb that has that narcissus/spring-type clean vibe about it, maybe retro but never boring IMHO...for me at least.

Beaufort, It’s not really underrated when you check eBay prices for the original Climat perfume 🤣🤣 it’s probably one of the most expensive fragrances per ml in the world 🤣

Ultimate time machine for me. My mom used it when I was a kid and I sneaked in and used it myself too. Brings me back to these years with no fail.

To me it smells like childhood. Mom young and beautiful, with long hair, coming back from tourney (she was ballerina). It smells very clean, tender and light, if I would have define its color. Elegant. Once mom said she'd love to have it again, I got her this new one and it was nothing like Climat from 70's or 80's I remember.

I believe some of the reviews for Climat are for the fake Climat that is so common in the marketplace. There is a whole industry that creates fake Climat EDT and pure parfum in the blue marble box. The fake versions generally smell extremely icky, aldehydic, one-dimensional, kind of rubbery......nothing like real Climat which has a gorgeous spring flower-like sweetness to it. The real Climat is a very special and striking fragrance, and "bittersweet" with its perfect balance of sweet & sharp. The first version of Climat came out in 1967 in a white box with blue, pink, and black paint splotches. It was an ethereal and abstract scent with the perfect amount of sweetness, with sharp green violet leaf and aldehydes giving way to a drydown of juicy peach, rose, lily of the valley, narcissus and light tuberose resting on a base of vetiver, carnation, musk, ambergris, civet and oakmoss. This earliest version of Climat was advertised in the U.S. as "fresh," "foresty", "mossy," "soft," "gentle," "fragile," "light," "bringing to mind woods, mosses, mountain narcissus and rushy streams"...."Wafting your way softly, gently, lightly...lingering with a hint of fresh and mossy greens." (These are direct quotes from newspaper ads of the late 1960s) Climat's packaging was changed in the mid-1970s to gray-ish blue. The packaging changed again in 1979 to the royal blue marble box, and it was available in parfum & EDT (splash & spray bottles) into the late 1980s. In 1999 to 2001, Climat was re-released in the U.S. and Canada as an exclusive at Saks 5th Ave and Holt-Renfrew stores. The box was matte white and "fuzzy" and the glass bottles had a shiny gold band around the neck. The scent was lovely, identical to previous versions. In 2005, Lancome released the "La Collection" version of Climat, which smells a bit different from the previous versions, but the spirit of Climat is still there. It's a lovely scent, but clearly a different formulation: sharp and astringent but the blend of top-notes is a little different & it forgoes the powdery real sandalwood & civet drydown of the previous versions in favor of synthetic sandalwood, vetiver and a touch of very light leather (isobutyl quinoline). With all these different formulations through the years, it's hard to know which version of Climat someone is reviewing. Real authentic Climat - in any formulation - was always incredibly beautiful

I got this as a gift so I would've never purchased it myself. This is a super soapy clean scent wrapped with intense aldehydes...very retro scent. I do not like it .
