Peut-Être

For those interested in the difference between the La Collection version (2008) and the 2020- the vintage has more complexity in the opening- Lilac with an almost hairspray note dominates the opening of the 2008 Peut-Etre before becoming a lovely musk. 2020 Peut-Etre has the lilac replaced by a pink powdered almost abstract rose, sweetened by vanillic benzoin and fluffy musk. I prefer the modern with more amber. It’s flirty yet sophisticated and grown up with out being matronly. Side by side there is a huge difference to me. Nothing like Iris Dragee in scent but similar in texture. 2020 Peut-Etre needs to be oversprayed. At first I thought I was anosmic to it because my usual 4 sprays yielded quite a low projection. This evening I sprayed 8 times on each arm (concentrating the sprays rather than all over) and I’m in the most beautiful scent bubble!! Highly recommend if you enjoy powdery or boudoir scents.

There’s a Gershwin song that goes “it’s nice work - if you can get it.” This perfume is the olfactory version of that song! Absolutely gorgeous, powdery rose musk that I go mostly anosmic to pretty quickly. I say mostly because I do pick up wisps of scent from time to time and it’s heavenly. I asked my partner if he could smell it and he looked at me like I was crazy - he said: “I could smell it from the floor below!” 🙇🏼♀️ He did think it was nice, though. Also, it makes my cat run around like a wild man when I wear it, so I guess he can smell it too! :) I feel like I’m going to be able to “learn” this scent, so until then I’m going to spray carefully. Imo this is FBW but only after you test to see if it works for you.

Purchased a sample of this through fragrancesline.com. Initial spray smells like nail polish remover (don’t really like the 2 ml atomizer it shoots jets) but that nonsense doesn’t last long and dries down to a soft lovely rose with amber and musk. I adore it. I have hard time with Roses Vanille which I know is a popular scent, but this is more inline for what I want in a rose perfume. Maybe it’s the musk and amber that ground it better for me. The rose is light and airy and doesn’t get soapy like some roses do for me. It’s lovely. I feel ladylike and soft and feminine wearing this. Really wanting a full bottle. It feels like the spring time companion to a winter of Oud Satin Mood.

Absolutely beautiful scent. Soft, delicate and feminine scent mainly with fluffy, powdery musk but I do get some hints of the rose as well. For adults. I would say this is a more sophisticated scent that is suitable for someone that does not want a huge scent bubble around them, but rather a fragrance you can smell when you lean in to someone. Smells quite different on paper than on skin so I would definitely recommend a skin test. Signature worthy elegant scent!

Gorgeously radiant - creates a gorgeous fragrant forcefield that sits around you and a beautiful trail. Something about this reminds me of something I loved. No idea what - that fragrant déjà vu feeling. Thankfully it’s a good one. Not obviously rosey or musky. To me golden amber but so clean a cross between gorgeously fresh skin and the warmest of breezy sunny days. Lightly sweet and ageless. Garners a lot of compliments and for me a keeper ❤️

Peut-Être by Lancôme is the epitome of feminine elegance. It’s soft, delicate, and leaves a beautiful, understated trail that feels effortlessly chic. There’s a richness to it that makes you think of a sophisticated, classy woman who exudes grace. It’s not loud, but it has a presence that’s undeniably luxurious. A true “rich lady” scent that feels timeless and refined.

I love this! On my skin it’s a thick rose with some ambery musk. Yes, it’s for grown ups, I wouldn’t imagine a teenager wearing this. Although it is mature, it doesn’t smell dated so to say. I am wearing it right now, and falling in love all over again every time I get a whiff of it. A soft and warm rose.

There is absolutely zero ambroxian or amber wood- this is 1000% Benzoin and only Benzoin, musk and rose.

Reminds me of Prada Candy Kiss with out the sweetness.

I can't really make up my mind about this one. I was in love with it initially, then thought it smelled too old, then started liking it again, but it didn't get all the way to love. The jury is still out I guess. Though I am going through a phase of warm feelings towards it, I feel it maybe doesn't justify the price point. I feel like every time I come back to it, it smells different than what I remembered. What I do get consistently is benzoin and musky rose in a high quality blend, but the nuances and vibes change all the time. I am surprised to read it doesn't last on people. On me, it has enormous sillage and it lasts 12 hours easily. If I wear it in the evening, then have a shower, then go to bed, I will still get hints of it in the morning. Also, I sprayed this on my body a few weeks ago, put on a dress and prepared to go out. I then decided to change my outfit and wore something else instead. Yesterday I reached for the original dress and it was so scented it left a cloud of Peut Etre behind me without me wearing the perfume this time.

Something I'd imagine an office worker or a receptionist would be wearing. I quite like it it's just... strange. At first spray I really liked it! However after it settles it smells quite paper-y and funny enough it made my paper strip smell even MORE like paper? It's literally paper smelling but sweet like I can't offer any more of an explanation than that there is some rose in there I guess it's definitely a powdery musk as stated below.... yeah a powdery musky rose that's kind of paper like. I'm trying to come up with more to say but I can't, it's not what you'd expect from a rose perfume but it sort of works? It's not bad smelling at least. Literally grab a piece of paper, smell it and imagine it's a bit sweeter with a dab of rose. EDIT: So this has been growing on my a LOT and has become my favourite rose scent... but then.... I noticed this smells similar to Celebre by Avon but just not a cheap version. :

Very pretty and very faint. It’s the kind of fragrance that a Queen of Fairies would wear. Dainty, translucent and ephemeral... Sadly, it lasts on my skin a mere 20 minutes until it completely evaporates... Such a pity because this smells like pure joy...

Amber, with a capital A. First blast is Benzoin heavy but quickly dries down to allow the musk through, although the benzoin remains to mix beautifully with the rose. Slightly powdery and becomes delicate with time. A bit like me.

A soft, floral, powdery musk. I find this disappears quite quickly. Not my favorite, but a good office scent.

Dusty oldfashioned rose scent 🙅♀️

I was super excited to try this perfume for awhile now because I am on the hunt for the perfect musk fragrance. This sadly isn't what I wanted it to be. Is it pretty? Yes, but in such an understated way. I realize that this is supposed to be a rather understated fragrance but come on! Is understated now supposed to be almost none existent? There is less white musk here than I was expecting and a lot more ambroxan. Why is this the norm for today? I don't get it. Ambroxan doesn't take the place of musk not by a country mile. I get the rose and benzoin which thankfully save the composition for me and at least make my decant wearable. But this is not full bottle worthy. I was hoping for a bigger white musk presence and sadly did not get it. A dull and sad ambroxan rose. I will probably end up giving this away to a young person. They don't have a reference point for better musks. If you want a lovely musky rose (real musk) try Guerlain L'Instant Magic instead. That one is gorgeous and they use real white musk. No new ambroxan overdose aroma chemicals. A lot of companies say "musk" or "white musk" but they mix it with ambroxan. Lancome used it in others in this line as well. This Lancome fragrance also reminds me a bit of the rose in the new Creed Ellaria which wasn't to my liking and clearly stated it's use of ambroxan. I compared them side by side, that same faux musk smell that IMO just doesn't work with rose dominant fragrances. Again, I doubt I will wear this decant and probably give it away to someone younger. I don't hate ambroxan all the time but personally I think it just doesn't work with rose at all.

Peut-etre caught my attention because of the whimsical name which means perhaps and I feel like Lorson captured that quality in this perfume (unfortunately!). The opening does smell like nail polish remover as another reviewer noted but thankfully that lasts all but 20 seconds before the true scent comes through. To me this is primarily a clean musky scent, with an airy rose but I don't pick up on any ambery sweetness from benzoin, which was disappointing as I really love sweet spicy amber as a note. It's got a very lotion like scent, I keep thinking it smells like Jergens (the musk one) which is not a bad thing. It's also one that's softer and sits closer to the skin on me. I think this would be one for fresh out of the shower when I like to smell just clean and lotioned up. That said, I feel like this is somehow incomplete and like perhaps (pun intended) this could have been more - more complex, more interesting.. just more I guess. While not a total let down I feel like this does not belong here in this exclusive line which has given us some exquisite and unique fragrances, in the past. Performance is also not in line with what I expect from this line as the scent fades within the hour and sits very, very close to my skin, doesn't project or have much of a sillage. I will try over spraying it to see if that improves the performance and update this review when I do. Overall, this is not a bad scent but too simplistic, I expected a lot more.

This reminds me a lot of an old bottle of Miracle I had on opening. Spicy floral, albeit not as spicy as Miracle was. The spicy fades quickly though, and it becomes a softer, soapy floral that’s barely there. I’m also sneezing left and right so I’m definitely allergic to this one.

A super flat, banal musky powdery scent like a dull diffuser. Not a worth any penny.

I have the 2008 and I'm waiting for my 2020 version of this in the mail ~ I can't wait to receive . I love Lancôme fragrances , they make me feel feminine and stylish . It is a 3.4 ounce bottle with the open lattice looking doors ~ while the other version is in a clear glass bottle . It is a bit pricy at $245.00 plus , but I figured it would be and set the money aside for this beauty . There is one note deference from the 2008 to the 2020 and that is benzoin and apparently no Iris in this one . This version listed has three notes , wow , so excited . Listed are amber accord , damask rose , musk and the benzoin which is clear , since amber does not have a scent to it , you can't smell it , they will use vanilla , benzoin , or labdanum in the note pyramid if amber is included , amber is used for its rich { golden usually } color which can be a variety of colors from red , orange , blue , white , green , yellow and so on . Amber as we know is just fossilized resin , benzoin is vanillin with a hint of cinnamon . It is used in most perfumes that contain vanilla , and in oriental scents ~ I'll update my review once I receive hopefully no delays like last time ~ Ha ~ Edit : I lost out on my first try as I was outbid as bid was ending , which has happened to me before ~ Ha ~ I was able to purchase for under $200 , with a discount on top , and money back to boot plus points , all items ship free . I know it takes a long time as Lancôme moves like snail mail , but this for me is worth the wait . I'll be interested in how each one wears as the years between is a decade . I still have almost a full bottle of the 2008 version , the last one of many buys since finding out she was discontinued , now I can wear more and indulge myself in this lovely scentual ~ ///=^} ~ Edit : 6/23/20 ~ I received my bottle and I'm happy , it does have an alcohol takeoff from first spritz , but within a few seconds it's gone and I get a powdery rose , musky scent with a bit of vanilla and oddly of cinnamon too ~ It is a bit different than the 2008 bottle , other than the Iris missing , you can tell it is , but I'll have to test both on one wrist each to be honest with my take of this 2020 version . I get some people will not like , but I'm not worried about that , it is different on every body due to our chemistry and how we wear a scent . I can't wear certain perfumes using as main note cedar or vanilla , some with a leather note as well . I smell like a medicine cabinet or sickly sweet and nothing else , Oooo, and civet , if it is a main note or just a few notes in perfume , it does depend on if it is synthetic or the real deal { which is better } all I get is urine , gag worthy urine . So we can both wear the same perfume , yet she can wear totally different due to our chemistry . I run hot so this is stronger than the 2008 ~ I will miss the iris . My bottle arrived on the 6th day , shipping was much faster than last month when I purchased from Lancôme site ~ woohoo , Kudos Lancôme ~ I'm happy I have both ~ so far ~ ///=^} ~

The least smelling perfume I have ever experienced. Sillage and longevity is just above zero. When I press my nose to my arm, I can feel a delicate, clean and sweetish lotion vibe along the lines between Guerlain L'Instant Magic and Trussardi My Name. Pretty scent but non detectable, what a pity... It's out of stock on French Lancome site, so I doubt it's discontinued. I really can't understand how nearly a scentless juice could pass the quality tests, was bottled and sold within an exclusive line. EDIT: I can smell it better after a couple of weeks, but still not that strong. I don't know why, aging of the bottle or my perception. I have just worn it twice outside, and it has got many compliments. Interesting. I may be blind to some of the ingredients.

This is makeup power sweet rose scent, it has a bit of a original tresor vibe in it. As if tresor had a very compact powder Rose scented kind of a fragrance flanker. I hope it makes sense. It develops on the skin much better than on a piece of paper. Also it’s very hot here where I live so I might have to come back to it either early in the morning or in the cooler days. I feel like this is more of a cooler weather scent, will have to test. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either. I enjoy the benzoin coziness it add at the dry down. I just think it might be too of a vintage vibe for my liking. Not a blind buy safe! It’s very similar to the Celine Le Peau Nue.

Another one bites the dust! Lancome Peut-etre came today, I opened it sprayed it on my wrist, 30 minutes later the scent was gone. I used the same box and shipped it right back to Lancome. It is nothing like the other power fragrances from them. I was really disappointed that I waited 3 weeks for this perfume. It is not worth $250. It is too sad because I own 6 fragrances from the Mason line and I adore them equally. I was so looking forward to adding this to my collection. The bottle is freaking gorgeous!

@LSAUG: thank you so much for letting me and others who despise ambroxan (and its equally irritating kin amberwood, ambroxfix, et al) know it's unfortunately in this fragrance. I hate that aromachemical with a passion and wish it would go away. If I can't smell it (which is rare since most perfumers overdose scents in it) I'm fine with it but when I can smell it *barf, gag, blech*.

This is one of those "your skin, but better" type of scents with a thin veil of rose on top. Think along the lines of Skin from Clean Reserve or Musk 12 from Kayali, but a bit powdery with the slightest hint of rose. A beautiful scent for spring or summer when you just want to smell effortlessly clean and beautiful.

This is a high quality perfume composition, but the rose and musk note dominate and it’s not my cup of tea. The previous version was more interesting. How it can compares this delicate powdery rose and the alluring almond-vanilla powder of Iris Dragee? These are completely different scents. IMHO

I agree @creamy_ambrette with you - i get ZERO ambroxan, which i loathe and feel like i can detect a mile away. This is a nice pleasant fragrance and dries down even nicer. Crowd pleasing, office-safe non-offensive clean rosy iris slightly sweet benzoin amber. I like this.

This perfume is a joke, right? I can't barely smell anything, or I got a bad sample. With my nose on my skin, I can't smell it! No rose, no musk almost nothing. Only a vague powder scent.... I am glad to see that people can detect those notes (even the benzoin??) wow!

Reviews of this are utterly polarised. I'm guessing this one has those synthetic musks in that half of humans are anosmic to. I would really like a sample of this as I suspect I may likely be anosmic to it but if you can detect it it sounds ace.

I like the scent! A warm powdery rose. But I do get some powdery cacao/chocolate scent when I spray this perfume. Maybe It’s just me? Overal a lovely scent. And a gorgeous bottle! So amazingly beautiful, the whole Maison Lancôme range.

Ican't understand the complainings, on my skin it is a powerful rose- musc combo, longlasting , with enormous sillage... Is it matter of personal skin chemistry, or there are some bad batches outside? Hard to tell.

Such a romantic name (Maybe), that evokes dreaming with the slightly opened door on this beautiful bottle.. And Natalie Lorson with Roses and Benzoin.. I have fallen in love already.

According to lancome.fr website, the composition contains iris, so notes pyramid is the same with the 2008 version except for benzoin instead of amber.

I love Lorson. I have several of her perfumes. She's a genius. Another great creation. Unlike the others. Pure powder on me. So beautiful.

First impression- soft and sweet. Hints of Lancome lipstick, powdered sugar and doll heads.
