My Sin

The scent is pleasant, but not strikingly amazing. Very freshly fruity and a bit floral. I have no glue what the original My Sin smells like, so I can't compare them. They probably don't have anything in common, as this one is very light and modern, not a classic in any way. It smells like berries to me. The bottle is lovely and the scent is nice. I don't understand how there are so many dislikes, it's not disgusting or anything. I guess, people are comparing it with the original. I can only evaluate this one, and I admit I like it.

Madame Zed, the creator of the original masterpiece that was the first My Sin, must be turning in her grave over this. Everything about this reeks junk: the look of the bottle, the notes. A fruity-floral. The original was a complex work of art. Lanvin also did the same thing to vintage Lanvin Rumeur, put out some fruity floral that had no relation to the earthy, leathery vintage. And Fragrantica won't even put up a listing for the original because they want to advertise for the inferior modern version. Perfume history is real and should not be erased for the sake of commercialism. These soulless corporations who buy out old perfume companies so they can rip off the names of classics are a real bore.

This is impossible to review. The original My Sin by Lanvin was not this perfume. My mother wore the original My Sin and let me borrow it for dates. Well, actually i had to sneak it. It was intense stuff. What the heck this new junk is, i neither know nor care. Away with it.

It's like spray painting primer over a Rembrandt, drawing a stick figure on it and calling it art. Why not just release the original? WHY? And to top it off, the new crap is a fruity floral, which is the final insult. This house is dead to me now. Seriously it is.

Ridiculous!!!! A floral/fruity on top of it. Unbelievable! It was bad enough that Lanvin renamed another perfume Scandal but My Sin I cannot take. Such an amazing classic and now they name a `girly thing` like it.

I've avoided even remarking on this because it's 100% negative. But I recall smelling this at a thrift store years and years ago, so I'll report what I remember, and not the details of what I no longer do. The overall tone of this...is really nasty. I'm very sorry, because apricot is lovely in my mind, but this didn't smell *of* apricot or anything distinct. It just smelled of rotted fruit in a vague sense. Lanvin is a treasured namesake, and yes...this was more appallingly bad because of it - why was this even released? What purpose does it serve? I can get down with some cheapo fruity scents. I like a number of B&BW things as long as they're relatively pleasant and fun. This was neither though, it smelled like some of the worst celebrity fragrances one could encounter. It sat like a heavy, nasty coat of fruit on a hot day. It blew up on my skin like crazy, but I won't speak for longevity...as I scrubbed it.

the only sin here is whatever conglomerate that's producing the lanvin perfumes, bottling this overtly synthetic, hellishly boring, repetitive (even amongst its OWN line) garbage under the name of a classic.

Absolutely sad. Obviously an effort to keep that trademarked name in circulation. I understand the brand wants to reign in young blood with these new releases but also use the old names as some sort of siren call to the faithful users of My Sin who wish like hell that Lanvin would revive the long lost and forgotten cult fragrance. However, to those who have remained forlorn after all these years, this is not the My Sin you love and remember, it is a completely, absolutely different fragrance and if you purchase it thinking it is the sensuous love potion of your wanton youth, you will be sorely disappointed and confused. This is a modern saccharine travesty of the floral kind. A friend of mine sent me a small decant that she had from a sample of the new launch. It smelled kinda like a mix of sweetly sour fruit and flowers. I hated it. It was not "juicy apricot and pear" to me. Nothing "juicy". The freesia is very shrill and the rose reminds me of something you'd spray in your bathroom. The drydown was blah, powdery and barely there. I could not wait to scrub this off. Boring. Mall perfume. Mainstream. Garbage. Teeny bopper special. I expect this to be discontinued within the next two years if it lasts that long. Sorry. Lanvin repeated this name switcheroo with Rumeur and Scandal, two names of their ancient discontinued perfumes that I know plenty of people who would give their eye teeth to be able to purchase the original formulas again. What's next? Pretexte and Crescendo? Spanish Geranium, Niv Nal, Petales Froisses or L'Ame Perdue? The original My Sin first created in 1924 is classified as a floral fragrance for women with a dominant acacia note with aldehydic character. Top notes: aldehydes, lemon, clary sage, neroli, carnation, bergamot, heliotrope, acacia, mimosa Middle notes: white narcissus, clove, orris, orange blossom, lily, jasmine, violet, rose, lily of the valley, lilac, iris, jonquil, ylang ylang Base notes: ambergris, vanilla, tolu balsam, styrax, patchouli, musk, vetiver, civet and sandalwood

It is utterly repugnant to this Parfumista that a reputable house such as Lanvin not only re-released My Sin but that it is a fruity-freakin-floral?!! Jeanne Lanvin My Sin? The only SIN here is that someone was too lazy to come up with another name, Also sinful is the cashing in (or attempting to) on a true classic that was bursting with aldehydic intensity and dripping with civet with something akin to fruit salad and flowers served in a musky sandalwood bowl. Misdirection is one thing, this is a flat out abomination. If those who created the classics of this House knew of this they would be rolling over in their marble mausoleums...and Madame Zed?! Well she might still strike back from the grave. The classic scent was so unique and richly full that my first sniff made my brain react in such a way I can only describe it as a cerebral thunderstorm. This is just a soggy wet blanket and even if it smelled better than any other modern fruity floral I would STILL boycott it on principle alone. Shame, shame everyone knows you're lying with this name. *hangs head and wipes tear from cheek* ;-(

After having observed those facial editions of Eclat d'Arpege ("So cute", "Pretty Face" etc.), I came to the conclusion that those in the Lanvin department responsible for naming and design must have a very...at least wry sense of 'humour'. This *new* version strikes me as full of self-deprecation. Btw, if Hieronymus Bosch was to paint the "Hell" of our time (according to big perfume houses), I'm sure he'd use pink colours and fill the ground with pears, peaches, sugar-coated berries, vanilla and fluffy ribbons (for reference, see the use of terms like "Poison","Sin", "Opium" and more.) *This comment will be removed to the release section once it's there.*

I am SO disappointed with Lanvin (better name: sinLESS). Lanvin, is it so difficult to produce the original? Positive Lanvin has the recipe. Does Lanvin seriously think they can fool us? NO you CAN'T!! I'm done with Lanvin, period. I don't care to waste my $ on imposters. This NOT the "My Sin" of days gone by. I want the original "My Sin" that knocked all others aside. Bold, brash, sensual, alluring, honey I'm ready. This is a flaming grab bag mixture of eighth, quarter & half notes of I don't know what. It's disgusting! It smells like something, but it is so lite I can't begin to describe this mist of YUCK.

The original My Sin is nauseating. Maybe I got a bad vintage bottle but I remember my mother had it on her dresser when I was little. I recall stealing a dab and I didn't care for it then. I read somewhere My Sin competed with Chanel No. 5, given it came out in 1924 and Chanel 5 had already been out in 1921. Not a big #5 fangirl, but it is far better than My Sin. There's a reason Chanel No. 5 still commands big bucks for a bottle, and My Sin? No one cares.

Wow, so many venerable Perfume Houses seem to be falling into some type of Twilight Zone vortex these days! It's fine and dandy to create scents that follow along with trends or are as 'safe' as possible, but why use the name of an original scent that was meant to be anything but safe? Such a shame to use a name and legacy like My Sin and tack it onto a basic bottle and scent...

What are they doing? Maybe everyone at the Lanvin house who ever had any idea about what My Sin was went on vacation? A pink fruity floral My Sin? This is ridiculous. It actually reminds me to Bruiser, the little lapdog from the movie Legally Blonde. Take a tiny chihuahua, dress it in pink, and name it Bruiser, this is what Lanvin did now.

I was watching the film Hitchcock (2012) in a scene the actress says her favorite fragrance was " my sin " by Lanvin. The scene was circa 1960 . So I was intrigued to see if it was still around. only to discover that it was not launched until 2017. Which means somebody out there somewhere has invented a time machine. Great Scott !

@dipietro The original My Sin was released in 1924 and smelled like Chanel N° Eau de Cologne (released decades before the 1986 Eau de Parfum), Max Factor Primitif, Fabergé Flambeau. This modern My Sin monstrosity is an abomination. LANVIN, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS!

Really upset, to name it with a name of retro fragrance from 1921! Lanvin, do you have some fantasy to call it in another name?

Almost the same notes like "Scandal"... Can you create something new or ... WTF is going on with this brand...?!?

Wow. Just wow. I've never been truly sad about a new perfume being announced before.
