Champ de Fleurs

I know this is not a groundbeaking fragrance, but on my skin it is beautiful. I dabbed on my sample and then sighed in ecstasy as this beauty unfolded on my skin. I adore a good white floral and this one is done with a deft hand to give it an airy, outdoorsy feeling. I love how the tuberose and gardenia are made to feel light and blend so well together. The grapefruit is fresh and uplifting and the pear gives the scent a tiny bit of natural sweetness. It is so great to find a floral these days that is not overly syrupy or overwhelmed by oud or leather notes. I'm buying a full bottle of this beauty. I love La Chase au Papillons, too, but Champs de Fleur is a fresher, more country breezy scent than its older sister. Perfect for the warmer months ahead.

Even though they're not listed in the pyramid, Champ de Fleurs strikes me as a foremost tuberose-gardenia fragrance. The initial opening of the softly bitter grapefruit pith quickly reveals the fleshy heart of tuberose and gardenia. The creamy sweetness is very restrained here, so much so that it feels almost like a nutty sweetness when the cedar starts to whisper in the background later on. The cheese-like butteriness of gardenia purrs quietly under the blanket of clean white musk, just enough to provide a certain intrigue but far from threatening the overall lighthearted mood of the fragrance. The sillage of Champ de Fleurs is mostly intimate, and it lasts around 6-7 hours on me. I initially thought of Champ de Fleurs as very similar to La Chasse aux Papillons EDT - one of the most successful L'Artisan Parfumeur offerings, and last year's Roger & Gallet Tubéreuse Hédonie, all three composed by Anne Flipo. After comparing them side by side, I still think that they're interchangeable to a certain extent, as all three share the similar tuberose heart and all three fill the same spot of a pretty, girl-next-door type of tuberose fragrance. But there are still noticeable differences, with Tubéreuse Hédonie being the closest to a tuberose soliflore, exchanging the buttery cheese aspect of gardenia with the vegetal and somewhat chalky undertone of tuberose, while the hay-like nuance of linden blossom in La Chasse aux Papillons becomes much more apparent in comparison. As a result, Champ de Fleurs turns out to be more creamy, more musky and less vegetal, even though marginally so. It's certainly a very wearable, everyday type of tuberose fragrance. Adequate for sure, but I'm afraid it doesn't have much anything new to say, and I doubt it would make much impression to hardcore tuberose fans.

Very bright warm and fresh, primarily lily of the valley, violet, jasmine and slight pear fragrance to me. It’s a nice off-white floral which smells like a mix between Marc jacobs white flower fragrance of the same name and DG Light blue. I could in fact see this being a beautiful floral flanker to light blue. Lasting power and projection are weak on me, however, I’m testing from a dabber.

A winter morning, the Sun reflects brightly off the ice covered stream. You lean in and, somehow, blooming flowers. Did Spring come early? No, it's a distant memory. The days still short.

This is a very soft, transparent/watery white floral. I actually prefer this to Chasse Aux Pappillons. On its own, this smells really fresh and clean in the heat and although it seems to disappear quickly, I can still notice it throughout the day--but at the price point, performance is poor, and there doesn't seem to be a ton of these circulating in the marketplace as with other L'artisan scents. I've been looking for another bottle due to the amount of overspraying and reapplication required for this and am hoping to snag something at a better than retail price at some point. I really enjoy wearing it in the heat of the summer and have been layering it with various fruity colognes like Aqua Allegoria. I did this accidentally one day with Mandarin Bassilic and noticed that it not only prolonged the longevity of the Champ de Fleur, but the combo elevated and bloomed both scents tremendously, despite their seeming incongruence.

Evidently my skin loves to amplify the musk notes in perfumes. This has a beautiful fruity floral opening that is elegant but not old ladyish. However, within the first 45 minutes, it turns into nothing but musk on me, which doesn’t appeal to me. Long-lasting (6+ hours) and arm’s length sillage.

To my nose, this smells way better on paper than skin. On paper it’s a lovely lily-forward fragrance. On my skin, it’s all musk that smells cheap.

Not sure why this is said to be similar to La Chasse aux Papillons cause I find them quite different . LCAP is divine , well balanced white floral which is very gentle and classy. I was hoping for the same with Champ Des Fleurs but no ! It’s performance is loud and astringent on my skin , so much so that I had to scrub it off . There is a note in there that annoys me and doesn’t bring forth the thought of flowers . The longevity and silage is very good and I wish that was the same for LCAP as it’s such a mild performer on my skin . Update:- A year later in Spring - I bought another sample and tried it today . Not sure how I got loud and astringent 😱 , it’s very soft and pretty but doesn’t stand out in any way . Shows spraying in different seasons makes a difference . 😉

@Aida Ferrer: This is from LuckyScent regarding this fragrance so you can see that it DOES have both tuberose and gardenia in it, just not listed: "Anne Flipo revisits one of her most influential perfumes: 1999’s La Chasse Aux Papillons. An impossibly soft, transparent tuberose that spells out spring in capital letters. In Champ de Fleurs, Flipo keeps the airy white floral in place, but takes it in a new and interesting direction. First, she freshens the top notes with bitter grapefruit and a juicy pear note, giving the floral heart an icy ‘morning dew’ feel. Second, perhaps more significantly, she bolsters the airy tuberose with a creamy, full-fat pairing of gardenia and jasmine, so that the contrast between the fresh eau de cologne-style notes in the opening and the buttery floral heart feels even more dramatic." So, this is a reworking of La Chasse Aux Papillons and not an entirely new fragrance, which is why the reviewer below was correct in stating that they smelled tuberose and gardenia since they are in fact in the fragrance, just not listed in the notes. Heck, they're not even listed on LuckyScent right under the ad copy for it, but they're both there. IJS...

I do not understand why other members describe this perfume as a tuberose gardenia fragrance. At least they should read the house list of ingredients, before they write a review, to see that this one do not have gardenia or tuberose.

Wet flowers that dry to powdery and airy ones. Not for me, but probably a nice one for a woman with a clean elegant look/vibe.
