Couleur Vanille

An exquisite vanilla perfume, very modern, very rich, intriguing and at times strange. You can tell that its a creation from the maker of most of the MEMO Paris perfumes, but with a twist that makes it a L'Artisan fantasy. The quality is amazing, it lasts all day long but is not overpowering. It is so potent that it stays on clothes for about a week (if not washed). The gourmand aspect of this often makes me think of Pastéis de Nata, the Portuguese custard tarts, or a slightly burnt, part crisp part soft crème brûlée. I am going to make a wild guess here, that this perfume is actually an ode to the laborious process of vanilla hand pollination, an homage to the local workers who make these scents possible. The salty notes could actually even come not from the sea breeze but rather from their own hands and bodies. It is the process of hand pollination that we smell, combined with the dreams and fantasies of those who work tirelessly. It is honoring somewhat tragic figures, who deserve our appreciation and attention. It's a salty / sweet vanilla with fresh and sour plants and fruit in a blend that makes it unusual, eccentric at times and weird, but always beautiful - like what you would expect from a ground breaking artisanal company like LAP. I love the dry down, when everything gets calmand salty like a walk back from the beach. Unlike what others say here the vanilla is very prominent but it's of the best quality with a superb mix of intriguing ingredients that make it so magnificent. It is those top notes that make this perfume stand out and better appreciated wearing and from a distance. Walking by the beach in the evening, it was the perfect companion to the sea breeze. Bravo !

I narrowed down 3 l’artisan to this one. I really wouldn’t normally like a fragrance like this (prefer fresh / citrus), but I just couldn’t stop sniffing the spray on my wrist, so went back to the store a second time and purchased this. I would describe this as a herbal vanilla scent. It is obviously vanilla dominant, but has a herbal quality to it, that I can’t put my finger on. Think floral vanilla with Benedictine or Jagermeister liqueurs (but not really), or some old style herbal medicine perhaps... it must be the immortelle, with yes a slight salty iodine note. I’m probably making it sound bad, but it has an intriguing herbal vibe which keeps the vanilla from being overbearing, and me guessing what that elusive note is (to my nose). The vanilla itself has a plant like quality to it, which conjures thoughts of a living vanilla plant, it’s green leaves and vegetal qualities blending seamlessly into the herbal accord. Honestly this is a little sweet for my usual tastes, and this doesn’t go well in hot weather for me personally. But, I have a relationship of intrigue with this perfume. It’s the opening floral vanilla, that dries into an almost bizarre blend of herbs with vegetal, rich natural vanilla. It is dreamy. Bottle is nice, with an excellent atomiser. I wear 3 sprays and it lasts the day. Overspray on a T-shirt lasted over a week. Not an every day wear. A very rich vanilla scent, ideal for autumn, or mild evenings.

Whoa, this juice is an absolute stunner for me!! This scent, as others have stated is a salty, vanilla,aquatic. Couleur vanille is gourmand but does it in a very light way. When I first spray it, I get an initial blast of alcohol that fades almost immediately, introducing your nose to calone (which I love). The calone note is reminiscent of Bvlgari Aqua marine, Acqua di gio, and Hugo boss. I know how this may sound to some niche snobs, but this works superbly well with the vanilla and salty accords. The combination is intoxicating and you can't help but smile when you smell this on your skin. Longevity on me is 8hrs+ and projection is above average. This is a summer vanilla but can work all year. Definitely unisex. Couleur Vanille is very unique for a vanilla scent, but super mass appealing which is a winner imo. Picture yourself at your favorite beach. When a warm summer day, starts to transition into cool, brisk evening, you're a sitting near the shore, eating a carton of vanilla ice cream, with some driftwood kicking there next to you just a few feet away while the waves are crashing!! If you're a lover of vanilla, this is a must have in your collection. Couleur Vanille is a masterpiece. 10/10

What a delicious Vanilla— delicate, elevated, elegant but still delivering heaps of pleasure and satisfaction. I immediately think of Van Cleef & Arpels vanilla orchidée due to the use of vanilla orchid, but where Coleur Vanille goes fuller and more sumptuous, Vanille Orchidée goes greener. Louis Vuitton Contré Moi lives in this territory of pristine vanillas as well. The most beautiful facets of Coleur Vanille seem to hover a few inches away from the surface of the skin— A sort of vanillic aura. The salt is a wonderful notion and I cant help but draw comparisons to its use in baking combination, salt and chocolate, salt and vanilla, ... like balsamic and strawberries... an ingredient which brings out even more power from others. For me I dont really smell "salt" as a note but rather I experience what it does to the vanilla. Bravo.

I am surprised to find myself obsessing so much over this fragrance. I am a vanilla fan, but tend to prefer herbal-type vanillas to those more gourmand. This gorgeous scent effortlessly walks the line between the two, with some fascinating aquatic notes thrown in. Upon first smelling this, I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I got a "Bath and Body Works" vibe because the vanilla struck me as so unapologetically synthetic. Giving it some time to open up on the skin, however, and the amazing combination of notes elevates this so it is both approachable and incredibly classy. The salt and ocean air notes last as long as the vanilla does, balancing it out and giving this scent a clean, airy quality. This fragrance makes me long for spring and summer, when perhaps I will give in to temptation and splurge for a bottle.

I love this fragrance. To me it's a very conforting vanilla which smell like a cozy home and you want to cuddle. I'll say it might tends a bit more feminine but can be wear by both sex (I'm a men). The only things that are not good is the projection and the longevity. Projection/sillage is moderate and can be discrete if you don't spray a lot, don't be shy. Longevity is 6h. For the people below who compare this to Eau Duelle, in my opinion this fragrance is better. Eau Duelle is very basic here you get something more complex while staying simple and heartwarming. One that is pretty similar to me is Chloé Vanilla Planifolia and got better projection.

What a beauty! Soft, salty vanilla with a hint of florals and a super subtle hint of leather (though it might just be my imagination?). Though Couleur Vanille is a vanilla perfume, it isn’t your typical sweet/gourmand vanilla scent. It has an elevated and balanced composition that suggests class, poise and confidence. I wear Couleur Vanille on date nights mostly during the Summer but not exclusively. All in all, Couleur Vanille is a treat, a delightful and grownup vanilla scent for either men or women. I first sampled it at Luckyscent before I purchased a full bottle. It isn’t blind buy safe because of that salt-y note.

I've posted on this perfume before, but when I put it on it makes me want to add some more! I think they should have named it Crème Brûlée. It would really suit it: rich warm vanilla, salt, deep, a bit burnt, very gourmand, potent. I prefer it for winter, it's like a warm comforting dessert. The opening has these flowery notes that I like less, but they don't last long. They are very similar to MEMO's MADURAI. In some ways this perfume sort of belongs in the exclusive line of perfume by Chanel. But then with an artistic twist from LP.

absolutely in my top 3 and will likely remain there for the rest of my life. a vanilla that isn't overly sweet—counterbalanced beautifully by the salt and immortelle. smells summery, but i'd wear it any time of the year. delicate, comforting, on a walk surrounded by flora and smelling vanilla carried by a sea breeze. my only gripe is that its sillage and longevity aren't as strong as i would like. i suppose that makes it more intimate. however, i will often pick up clothes i wore a few days prior and get a delicious whiff of it.

I tested this thinking it won't be anything special and it ended up becoming my signature fragrance, winning over my whole top 5. It's probably the most long-lasting L'Artisan fragrance (at least on me), easily staying on my skin for 6-8 hours, compared to 3 hours tops for most of my other favorites from the brand. It's classy but whimsical, suitable for daily wear but full of character, cozy, and always intriguing. I get mostly salt, bergamot, cashmirwood, and vanilla. I hope they never discontinue it!

It is so beautiful 😍 thanks to the salt and flowers it is not too sweet but airy and breezy, and at the same time a bit oily, natural-smelling vanilla, grounded by cashmerean. It is on the softer side, very unusual, long lasting. It's very lovely fragrance and it sparked my interest in the brand.. I wouldn't compare it to Olympea - it is completely different smell in my opinion (Olympea was a 'no' for me, because of the strong note of ambergris which I find nauseating - I had to give away my bottle).

This is undoubtly for me the best vanilla on the market, the best l’artisan scent and the way it floats in the air is just gorgeous and elegant. I am so in love with this hand has nothing to do with Juliette HAG. Quality of raw material and ingredients are just a step above all here. A true tribute to vanilla using the most expensive raw material. 10/10

If you use just a very small drop on your arms it smells like coming back from the beach, salty, sandy, sweet, natural. But you should really use a tiny amount, otherwise it's a super strong vanilla. I prefer this fragrance for the coldest winter days, as it is heavy and warming, and just smells better with lower temperatures.

This such a comfortable scent to wear. Floral vanilla just a with a pinch of salt to balance. Very cozy, homey, not something you would wear to make a statement, but something just for yourself. I see why people compare it Vanilla Vibes and Olympea, but to me, those are too commercial smelling, not the same.

A grown up vanilla, the one that smells lady, not girlie.. Nothing immature with it. The salty notes lightens the sweetness of vanilla. It smells luxurious and "rich". An expensive version of olympea PR. If you love quality vanilla, you cant go wrong with it.

A favourite! It may not blow your mind, but it’s comforting, cozy, and relaxing, evoking the essence of summer. Although similar to Eau duelle, I don’t detect any green notes, instead, there’s a subtle cashmere-like floral nuance.

I am kind of liking this! Marine/aquatic vanilla, slightly sweet, mostly salty, airy and sunny! 100% pleasant and relaxing. I am not the biggest fan of strong, and those usual, vanilla scents. Especially not super sweet and gourmand. Or your typical beachy/suntan lotion vanilla. This is not it! What a pleasant surprise! Soft vanilla, with just a touch of sweetness, dash of powder, and a lot of water and salt. You can feel its aquatic/marine aspect so clearly as if you were right there by the ocean. A nice, warm day out at or by the sea. You can smell the ocean air and all the salt in it. You can smell the sea salt mixing with the scent of your warm skin as you lay there soaking up the sun after a pleasant swim in the ocean. Vanilla is dominant, by not cloying. It’s there, surrounding you, as if hanging from green vines all around. There’s a slightly green, herbal hint to it. It’s just so super relaxing, and pleasant. This is not your usual beachy vanilla. And I like it. But I am guessing it is not gonna be interesting for those who like the usual vanilla. This is vanilla that grows from the sea water, sweet and salty, a bit sandy, fragrant and smooth. It gently envelops you with its green vines as if it wants to pull you back to the sea with it... I could wear this vanilla.

I really like this, however sillage is very disappointing. I love vanilla and this one is so nice. Opens slightly salty and dries down into a slightly gourmand vanilla with woody undertones. I'm not usually a fan of marine notes, but I just get slight wafts, enough to lift it and keep it light. And that's what this is, a very light, very pretty vanilla. It had a soft playdoh note for a few minutes, which I love. I have a manufacturer's carded sample and I've sprayed over 1 ml all over my arms. I can only smell it if I press my nose to my wrist. That's the only disappointment. I would never pay $180 for what is essentially a skin scent on me. Also it doesn't smell like JHAG Vanilla Vibes to me at all. I hated that one, no comparison. Lovely but hopelessly fleeting on me.

I've owned a bottle of this for about a month now and decided to let it sit for a while, since I wasn't too impressed when I first smelled it. I was expecting to be enveloped in a soft, yet salty and marine vanilla- only to be disappointed when all I could smell was melon! I've had 3 others smell it and all have agreed that there is a prominent melon note, no vanilla or aquatic notes whatsoever. It's a very nostalgic scent for me, even though melons and fruit notes in general are not my favorite, so I will be keeping and aging the bottle, hoping the scent will develop into the notes listed and what all of the other reviewers seem to smell. I'm intrigued to see if anyone else has had this bizarre experience- melon of all things ☺️

I'm really enjoying my sample of this. I see now that this is what a salted vanilla should smell like, having only experienced Dossier's literally named Aquatic Vanilla before now, which is shrill and pales in comparison to the complexity and warmth of Couleur Vanille. I don't think it's exactly Me, as I find I don't love this much salt in a perfume, but it's blended so masterfully here that I have to admire it. Whenever I catch the scent of it on my wrist, it makes me happy, even if it's not The One that I'm searching for as my signature.

There is not much to say about perfumes with 'Vanilla' in the name - all is said already and in the end it is just vanilla - everybody knows how vanilla smells. In this case it is very L'Artisan type of vanilla - airy, not cloying almost herby. At some point smells like cookie - probably because of the salt. Very nice and almost aquatic, suitable for all occasions. I think the people who are not much into vanilla will appreciate this. Longevity is very good. I don't care about the projection. I love this one.

A very floral vanilla. The freesia is veeeeery prominent and it is not my favorite note. The note often gives cucumber melon vibes and that is why this reminds me of Guerlain Coconut Fizz. At this moment I am not sure if i like or dislike this, i can see this growing on me. I consider this a failed blind buy but at least now i know for sure that i really dislike freesia lol. To the reviewers below smelling melon, you are not imagining it. It's the freesia note.

We have here a salty vanilla, not sweet at all, fresh, as if carried by a sea breeze. This is a nice surprise because, generally, I don't like salty perfumes at all which often give me headaches; here, zero problem. The perfume is delicate and well-dosed. I find it soft and comforting, it is very pleasant.

Salty vanilla. Interesting how the salt grounds the vanilla, preventing it from being just another sweet affair. Not even remotely like JHAG, it’s like a sheer and elegant breeze swept in from the ocean.

Thin lace of salt on a solar vanilla skin, maybe a dry teardrop, maybe the sea waves. Maybe both. Beautiful and ephemeral. Intimate. Emotional. Nothing to eat, but something to kiss.

Note for myself: I like this, but the marine throws me off :( Edit: As I try this more, I eventually enjoy it. This is like a more natural version of Paco Rabanne Olympea.

The floral vanilla stands its ground against the marine aspect, and neither overpowers the other. Fresh and not too sweet, pleasing.

Coldness of the marine notes here makes me sad and lonely, vanilla doesn't help and even somehow makes the coldness stronger, creating full picture, like I'm sitting on an empty, clean, white sand beach staring into endless deep dark jade colored horizon and its cloudy twilight and you feel your lifetime passing. I have 5ml and it will last all my life, because it requires super special mood to wear for me)) It's moderately sweet and fresh, super inoffensive, not comforting at all, even scary :D sillage and longevity is weak to moderate. P.S I've read some comments below, someone said that is smells like melon! its a great twist to what I wrote before! I started to smell it too, more like cantaloupe melon bubble gum, now it's not so depressive :D Thanks <3

I placed two LAP orders this month, and chose to sample Couleur Vanille. From the moment I sprayed it on I had this sense of it reminding me of something. I assumed another perfume, but it finally hit me a couple of hours later — it smells exactly like fragrance misted out as you skim over the Pacific Ocean while riding Soarin’ Over California at Disney California Adventure! I don’t dislike the fragrance, but I won’t buy it. I really don’t get much vanilla, which is what I’m looking for, and now after 4 hours the only place I can still smell it is where it touched my shirt. I would say this is a summer fragrance, and for daytime.

There’s a heavy vanilla/vanilla orchid note that weighs this fragrance down heavily and takes away from the marine/aquatic saltiness. I wish that the vanilla wasn’t so strong so this would lean more fresh. Other than that, this reminds me to Olympea or Beach Walk. Any other summer/salty fragrance

The initial spray is lovely. Like a spicy vanilla . But after a few minutes it dries down to a very sweet odor that resembles what dries saliva after consuming ice cream would smell like. Wondering if I can make it work if I spray it on clothing so it stays with the original properties

This is a soft Vanilla. Definitely can wear this in high heat and it won't get clawing. You will only get whiffs of this when a breeze comes. Beautiful scent but very moderate. This won't be for everyone but if you are looking for something intimate this may work you.

i think i just don't like salt scents. the salt always interacts with the florals in this weird, dirty way.

A soft, airy green vanilla which doesn’t last. If you like Eau Duelle you’ll like this.

Just got my official sample direct from the manufacturer two days ago and wore it all day yesterday. I have to say I'm really disappointed! Not that it smells bad, but as a big vanilla fan I was hoping this would would be a unique take on the note with some added complexity with the salt. Unfortunately this is a very binary composition and all I get is non-descript vanilla paired with an extremely pedestrian aquatic note. Like I said, it's not bad, but it's much more akin to something that belongs in a Bulgari or Dolce & Gabbana lineup. This, to me, does not at all justify the price point at all. Even once it hits the secondary market at %50 of retail, I would only ever be comfortable paying 40 or 50 bucks for this. I expect more richness and complexity from my niche fragrances, even the lighter ones. On the plus side, I was able to buy a two samples direct from the company and it was only like 9 bucks shipped so, I am at least appreciative that they offer that option. Edit: this site hates negative reviews so I don't expect any balloons, but trust me, as a swarthy man that gravitates toward lighter (gasp - even feminine) fragrances, this was underwhelming even if it is admittedly pleasant.

Such a nice perfume! I love the vanilla in this. I would say it is a true vanilla without being gourmand or too sweet or edible. I love every single note in this perfume. I will say I wear this one just for me. My boyfriend says it smells good but only when I ask LOL. But it puts ME in a good mood! I love the scent cloud it provides and it does last on me. I like to wear it in the crisp winter weather. Very very cozy warm vibes. Would not wear it in the summer I don't think, despite the marketing with the salt note that its like a seacoast vanilla. You can really tell the brand/ perfumer on this one took creating the formula for this really seriously- it is so well blended. My favorite vanilla, it will be hard for me to find a vanilla forward fragrance I like more than this one. It is similar to Juliette has a gun vanilla vibes HOWEVER that one has this metallic-ness to it I don't like anymore (I think that's how my nose interprets ambroxan).

Vanilla is not my favorite note, since I usually find it too sweet, gourmandy or heady. However, you espect a lot of vanilla out of a perfume having "vanille" in its name. L'arstisan's Creation is not too loud, but a bit toned down Parfumum Roma Aqua e Zeccero, with less projection. The salt note is so dominant in the opening. I am happy I did not feel immortelle flower at all (as it tends to give me a headache). A great salt-vanilla twist. I Think, mostly I am loyal to a former perfumer of this house with just a pinch of an extreme critisism, but this would not be a bottle for me. Sample first.

A waxy, strong vanilla on my skin. Minimally sweetened. Mostly linear and single note, but the waxiness does shift a bit towards powdery as it dries down. Not getting notes other than vanilla in a meaningful way. Greater than arms length radiation with a standard application. 66 degree day, moderate humidity.

It reminds me of a kitchen. Vanilla here isn't salty, nor is it floral. But for some reason there's a stench of bay leaves and ground pepper that I didn't expect at all. Vanilla itself here is very thin, more vanillin reminiscent.

Boring, smells like Eau Duelle EDP by Diptyque. They say it is a salty vanilla but it just smells like generic expensive perfume.

Vanilla-scented Johnson's Baby Powder Thats a pass for me.

I’ve been meaning to try this forever, and thank God I had the sense to sample! Although pretty much everything about the notes and description appeals to me, this would have been a disastrous blind buy because it’s a scrubber for me. 😭 Pardon my redundant language but woah! That salty accord is SALTY. Something about that and the immortelle make this VERY “beachy,” more realistically than anything I’ve ever smelled. The saltiness makes me think of iodine, and though this smells nothing like Womanity, it does remind me of it, it’s that type of saltiness that makes you think of the ocean immediately. Unfortunately I do not want to wear it, but if this is your thing it’s very well done!

This is definitely a very interesting vanilla; because it's not sweet, creamy and gourmand like vanilla perfumes usually are. It actually smells salty, kinda like driftwood. To me, it smells very aquatic and mineralic, like dried vanilla pods that have been floating in the ocean, with salt crystals slowly forming in the sun. It's definitely very unisex and a very intellectually challenging perfume. It smells a lot better than on a smelling strip; the sweetness comes out slightly but it's still more of a deep, resinous oriental sweetness than creamy candy vanilla once again. If you're very into vanilla as a note in perfumery, definitely try it on your skin! Personally, for me, there's a little bit too much of the synthetic ambery notes in the background but I definitely acknowledge I’m quite sensitive to them and this is still a very interesting fragrance since salty vanillas aren't very common!

Is L'Artisan the latest house to fall under the belligerent hammer of corporate "niceness" -- they smile toothily as you pay for a sample? Just tried this and immediately thought "I'm walking through Macy's" (Actually, that's insulting to Macy's-- their NYC flagship is hanging onto providing value, decency, and magic for the masses by a thread.) Sorry to be crass, but I want my money back. (Just a note: Passage d'Enfer, La Chasse Aux Papillons, Safran Troublant, and Nuit de Tubereuse set my expectations and it pains me to think that a presumption of quality is a kind of nostalgia.)
