Iris de Gris

Iris de Gris feels natural and earthy. Broken green stems, a little soil, some roots, some rain and something a tiny bit floral but that’s almost an afterthought in its beginning stage. The Iris gets a bit stronger as the perfume ages on the skin but the floral never overpowers the sense of green earthiness. It brings a little powder toward the end, but it’s minimal. This is a very rooty, green, fresh and vegetal Iris. Not at all like the powder bombs some Iris perfumes can be. And although I like those, I really like this as well. Very much recalls the smell of walking through a dense undergrowth in a forest soon after a light rain. I know it’s meant to be a pea accord, but to me it smells of pure green sap and the galbanum gives that green a bitter edge that makes it so realistic. Totally unisex and uplifting in the way things that truly smell of nature and remind us of happy times spent outdoors can be. It’s linear and feels modern, probably because of the almost stripped down feel of it and the clarity of vision as well as kind of a disregard of the traditional perfume stages. Lasts 7-8 hours on the skin.

I'm sampling from a 1.5 ml decant. Iris de Gris is a lovely Iris fragrance. I immediately smell iris when I spray this on my wrists. I love the fresh pea note. At times I think I am picking up on the slightest hint of mint. I could just be imagining it. Peas are often served with mint. This fragrance is a refreshing interpretation of iris. I love that the iris is not combined with violet or heliotrope. Chanel No. 19 is a beautiful galbanum iris perfume that includes violet. Iris de Gris reminds me a little of Poudre. Iris de Gris is less powdery. The galbanum and pea bring life and green transparency to Iris de Gris. No. 19 Poudre brings more heft to the iris with the addition of neroli and jasmine. Iris has become my favorite floral note in fragrance. I have many iris fragrances in my collection. Iris de Gris is unique and pretty enough to warrant a full bottle. I added Hiris to my collection this year. Next year I will add Iris de Gris. I know that I will enjoy wearing this fragrance often.

This is an absolute 10/10 for me in terms of scent profile/how it actually smells. I love this to death. Earthy, green, fresh, vibrant, photorealistic plant notes. However, the longevity is, and I'm not being hyperbolic: atrocious. The projection is also almost zero. I had a 1ml decant and was curious if it was because I was using a blotter, so I bought a 10ml pressurized atomizer decant, and same thing. Doused myself in this and it's barely detectable. I couldn't possibly justify purchasing a bottle, even though arguably this is one of the nicest perfumes I have ever smelled. Pretty sad about it! Scent: 10/10 Projection: 1/10 Longevity: 3/10 Full bottle: Very sadly, no.

Tried a sample from the house, which u can purchase from l’artisan’s website (2 samples with delivery for 7,50€) The green peas pod is what i smell at the beginning. Is the peas “folder” :-) So you get this very green earthy smell and the iris contributes to this earthiness. It’s pleasant and surprisingly elegant, but still too green for my tastes. Just not my thing but a very interesting creative juice. Try it if you’re a frag nerd. The cardboard also says musks and vibrant woods. EDIT: It’s the morning after and i can still smell it clearly on my hand. It grew on me, the smell is very classy, creamy green elegant. Earthy, rounded, very very giod job!

Halfway through my sample of this and unfortunately I think I’m starting to love this fragrance. Unfortunate only because of the price point. This is so earthy, green, and interesting. I absolutely love the pea note in this, it’s so unique. It may also be my favourite iris blend that I’ve tried so far too. It’s a great option for those who find florals to be too powdery or heady at times. It’s very unisex. This just screams spring to me. It also layers beautifully with Juliette Has a Gun’s Not a Perfume to deepen the profile into a well-rounded, musky yet fresh scent. A full sized bottle may be in my future!

Review from sample, 2-day wear test: I got the sample only because it was featured on Persolaise top 10 list for 2022 and I am a big fan of his. I expected not to like this at all... This is green, vegetal, a kind of wet, slightly oily vegetal ( from the peas presumably?) scent, intertwined with iris. To my nose not powdery. Fresh, yet elegant. Very captivating and perfect for spring. Pretty easy to wear. Moderate longevity and projection, wafted in and out of my consciousness during the day. And what do you know, at the end of the second day, I needed a full bottle... Perfectly unisex in my opinion.

I bought Iris de Gris blind—a ballsy move given the mixed reviews and that peculiar pea note, but it paid off in the best way. It’s calm and green, with soft iris and this beautiful freshness that feels like nature waking up. The pea note adds a dewy, vegetal sweetness that makes everything feel alive and within reach, and even though it’s not actually listed, there’s a subtle thread of cool mint running through it, like a breath of morning air. It’s quiet and thoughtful, somehow both grounding and uplifting at the same time, and definitely worth testing if you’re even a little bit curious.

This is absolutely gorgeous! Such an incredible composition! It opens with this citrusy BURST of vegetal-green that evolves into this really beautiful, well-balanced, slightly citrusy, powdery, green, earthy fragrance. Unlike the other reviewers, I don’t get any soil. However, I do get this starchy, photorealistic green pea note that underlines the composition, working to balance the fragrance by keeping it fresh and providing some olfactory relief from the citrus so it doesn’t become too sharp. Masterfully blended, completely unisex. I can’t stop smelling it! Truly a remarkable creation.

Iris de Gris is the perfect bright green, happy, springy pea fragrance. It’s so unique, but very well-executed and balanced. I finished my sample in just a week even though I rarely wear the same thing multiple days in a row, and then I quickly upgraded to a full size bottle. This is obsession worthy for me. I can practically taste the peas straight out of the garden with this. It has pretty decent projection and longevity for me— I catch little wafts of it many hours later. Perfect for spring and warmer weather.

I purchased this fragrance last year when I was trying to find a new summer scent and wanted to smell like a sexy garden. This is ittttt. I like to layer it with Indult Tihota. Although the price point is high, this fragrance is STRONG and you don't need a lot, so it lasts. For me it's typically too strong to spray it directly on my skin, I have to spray then walk through to have a fragrance level that I'm comfortable with from a single spray. I get compliments nearly every time I wear this.

Beautiful, elegant and my new favorite for summer. The opening for me is gorgeous peas and iris followed by the bergamot and an earthy tone. Not over complex yet a stunning blend. The dry down is iris and woodsy not that powdery which makes it ideal for me. And all that from a sample. I will be getting a full bottle.

I was searching for a fragrance similar to She Wood by DSquared2 (Daphne Bugey), and out of approximately 15 samples of perfumes, I think Iris de Gris is the most similar. It has that fresh and dryly sweet smell that I absolutely love. While the bottle is pricey, I do think it's next on my list.

Quentin Bisch did it again! This is such a green effervescent iris. The pea note is just so unique making iris fresh and not that powdery. This scent really stands out from most niche iris scent. My new love.

Its a really interesting combination. Wet iris root with a slightly earthy facet and the greenness, the pea. The bergamot is not really a facet here, its more the harmoniser, the component that supports the other two and creates a kind of effervescence to the fragrance. There could be galbanum here but if there is, its toned down so no bitterness comes through. I don’t think this one goes anywhere - what you see is what you get - or what you get is what you get - but what you get is interesting and tickles my nose and brain in a nice way. These linear scents - I would struggle to get through a big bottle - but I’d happily have 30ml of this one. There is something futuristic about this I can’t put my finger on. Its crisp and a little tart but in a green way rather than citrusy way. If someone wants to swop 10-30ml to another L’Artisan, pm me - I have a few. Long drydown - the next morning - you have a glorious, almost edible, soft, buttery skin scent that has no resemblance to the rather cold and almost austere (but interesting) original presentation. Its like the shiny chrome surfaced spaceship opened up to reveal a cosy mid century velvet sofa and a library.

This one is fascinating, not because it’s particularly wearable, but because it plays with scent in a way that feels more like an olfactory study than a traditional perfume. Iris de Gris reminds me of something vegetal—not neccessarily a pea, but something in that world, fresh yet oddly starchy, as if a handful of green pods were ground into fine powder. The pea accord makes sense when you consider its powdery and chalky nature, but the impression is more one like rubbing crushed greens between your fingers and feeling the fine dust they leave behind. Its opening is rather bright, a sharp flicker of citrus that enlivens the composition before settling into something drier, more true to its greenness, and down to earth. It smells alive, but in a muted, grounded way—not fresh and dewy, but more like the scent of sun-warmed vegetables in late summer. I wouldn’t necessarily want to smell like this myself, but I truly do admire how well this fragrance is done. It’s a scent that makes you think, undeniably unique and meticulously crafted.

I got a decant of Iris De Gris out of curiosity, because I couldn't imagine a pea note, especially not a good one. And it was a success: now I can! It actually works surprisingly well - it really smells of peas, but thankfully not of the cooked variety: it has the subtle fresh earthy green of the freshly picked peas in their pods. And the main player, as the name suggests, is very much the iris note that is a great complement to the pea, making it less gimmicky. It does smell pretty weird in the opening, or at least unexpected, but as it settles down it's just a nice light iris with a green streak, simple and beautiful. Which makes this scent both original and wearable - not what I was expecting, but a delight to discover! I doubt this will ever be a bestseller, but it does go to show that experiments like this can be worthwhile beyond just their experimental character. I'm definitely keeping my decant around for when I'm tired of all the usual suspects on a summer day that calls for something light.

Creative, but extremely wearable. This isn't powdery to my nose, it's green and slightly earthy. I could definitely smell the peas(the shell, not the beans inside...is it called 'shell'? lol ENG is my 5th language, so...), but only for few seconds alongside the bergamot, and a good dose of galbanum. After few minutes, I was left with a combo of galbanum and a hint of iris. The iris here isn't "makeup-y" at all, but rather earthy. Because I like galbanum a lot, I was going to purchase it straight away at Selfridges, but I've rather decided to just spray it on my hand, and go for a walk. Result? I'm not so sure anymore, it's rather on the weak side. I sprayed Etat Libre d'Orange's 'You or Someone Like You' just before it on the other hand, and after 4 hours, I can definitely smell it, while Iris de Gris is completely gone. Edit: I read a review below after I wrote mine, and the person said that s/he had a good experience with longevity; so, maybe it's just my skin!

It's a very straightforward galbanum perfume, linear and monodimensional. However, despite this typically resulting in a disappointing perfume, in Iris de Gris this works to its credit. You can almost see colors overlapping: the green of the pea/galbanum note pulling the green out of the purple iris to come together and evoke some interesting share of greenish purpleish gray. It's a much different presentation of iris than we - or maybe just I - am used to. It's like the iris has lost its color but not its life. Beautiful materials beautifully blended into a simple but unique statement. If you're looking for complexity, you won't find it here, but if you're looking for beauty - like the feeling you get while admiring the simple beauty and symmetry of an iris flower - than this is for you. We need more perfumes like this. I approve.

A cool, light iris-musk blanched of floral power — though something appealingly sleek and modern remains — underpins a fresh, bittersweet, sap-like, green dimension from the listed pea and galbanum notes. A pea-pod opening drying to a fresh, humid, woody musk. This is a favourite of mine from L’Artisan Parfumeur. Not much boudoir iris at all, just cool, pleasant, green-purple aromatics. And despite the green pea, its gris/grey, moss-adjacent qualities seem to suit my autumn mood better than spring/summer. The base is cold, sheer musk, almost metallic at times, with ambrofix making Iris de Gris feel fresh and clean in that contemporary way. Sometimes Quentin Bisch is too heavy-handed with the aromachemicals for me but here he has created something captivating, enjoyable and inventive.

ok, it seems like vegetables are the new trend in perfumes. And I like it! I already loved 'Kyoto' by Diptyque with that wonderful, earthy-fresh beetroot note, and 'Iris de Gris' here could be a follow up. When I spray this on I immediately get juicy, green peas, mixed with an earthy, dry orris root. Bergamot freshens the earthy notes up. It mighht sound weird but to my surprise this one is very pleasant. Like an earthy, citrusy, vegged orris root that gives a surprisingly elegant, fresh yet down-to earth- impression. I will certainly use the sample and am thinking of adding this to my collection

Have you ever wanted to smell like fresh green peas pods and grass ? This is it ! It's so realistic it's shocking. The iris here is discrete. We are so used to powdery makeup-like iris fragrances that's it's a bit bizarre to smell fresh green iris in a fragrance. Here it's straight like an iris flower you just stole from your local pond. Longevity is ok. It quickly becomes a skin scent but this is fine as a Summer scent I guess. Very refreshing during heatwave in the city. On me it stays pretty linear, may become more floral after a while but it's still pretty green and fresh.

When I first smelt this in May, my immediate response was "fags an ashtray." My pal I was with was like "what? No. Green peas." My nose has never been able to pick up the pea pod scent well but the opening of vivid challenging green in the summer heat of July is really good for focus. The wet starchy orris that follows is glorious and so calming and chilled out. I really got into it, lke adding fresh air to the day. A short season though. As soon as the summer heat left, its gone back to smelling like ash tray.

I was so intrigued by these notes so I ordered a sample. From the first spray I was so impressed by how realistic the pea note was. It was like they had just been picked straight out of the soil along with some fresh mint. At first I wasn't too sure whether I liked it as a fragrance to wear but now I really like it. It starts off very earthy and green but then this earthy iris comes through. Its definitely an intimate scent with moderate longevity. I'd love to buy a full bottle but its very expensive.

I love iris. I love galbanum -- I thought this would be everything I want & more in a fragrance. It's not that it's not nice, it's just a bit underwhelming. The pea note isn't substantial enough for me to really feel like ah yes this belongs in the potager collection, and the iris is nice, but again, nothing more, nothing less. A perfectly pleasant iris that I thought may be a bit more funky, and or vegetal to have made its way into this collection.

Wowwow such an interesting one. That Quentin Bisch, always has some tricks up his sleeve. Very linear scent IMO, definitely get the peas straight a way and that peas/iris/bergamot combo sort of reminds me of the smell of fresh vietnamese coriander herb. Smells so natural, I almost want a bottle, but at the same time there is no way I would wear this out. However I am glad to have sampled this as it made me appreciate QB so much more as a perfumer.

I love how vegetal and earthy this is, to me it's in the same "genre" as diptyque philosykos, both evoking photorealistic, freshly harvested fruits and vegetables that still have a bit of soil on them. it transports you to a garden where peas and irises are growing side by side. Very unique, not your typical summertime citrusy freshie, I'd wear this on a warm sunny day and still feel like myself.

I can see others disagree but I find this scent to be really refreshing, like a glass of minty icetea on a hot summer day! For me the pea accord was stunning but definetly faded somewhat quickly and leaves a beautiful refreshing but still a little earthyness behind. I do want a bottle but fear that it overlaps too much with me already owning ELDO you or someone like you

YUMMM picking and shelling peas! haven't smelled the warm dusty scent you get while gardening in summer in a perfume til now. i'm a kid helping my grandma's neighbors and munching on their sugar snaps again: they're mixing with my dove soap and drying into green tea. very light, very realistic, very nice!

Bergamote, galbanum and orris root opening. It is just intoxicating. Unfortunately, the drydown is dominated by the sharp, spicy, greenness of the galbanum; at least it's the case on clothes. Imo, galbanum can take a scent to the next level or completely ruin it. Unfortunately, for me, it's the latter.

Green, earthy, vegetably, distinctively peas; moves into elegant green iris with a hint of bergamot. Contemporary and intellectual. Think late-afternoon gallery opening in Paris or NYC, minimalistic avant-garde art pieces in white open spaces, the smart crowd in clean shirts casually roaming around.

this smells like a nondescript but photorealistic flower bouquet. cut stems, water in a vase & the lightly powdery smell of odorant flowers’ petals. fairly linear too.

Not gonna lie, I don't know how I feel about Iris de Gris. It has the bitter sappiness of snapped pea pods for sure, but I'm not really picking up iris per se - the powderiness I'm detecting, perhaps because it's mixed with the vegetal notes, makes me think of pea protein or chickpea flour? I also perceive on some celery seed aspects in here, adding a mouthwateringly savoury aspect to this. I think my mind is still struggling to grasp this unusual scent, but it resists easy categorisation and subjective judgment, and I'm loving it - most scents are too easily deciphered, and I think it's wonderful that there's something I feel like I need more time with to study and pick apart. Edit: On my skin, a strong woody-ambery note emerges which unfortunately detracts from the unique, yet wearable powdery pea-iris juxtaposition.

I was able to wear test a sample of this. There's no doubt that this is a beautifully crafted fragrance, but . . . It only lasted around 2 hours before fading. I don't have the budget to justify the poor longevity or weak / delicate sillage. There are many, many fragrances that impress me more than this. (It is beautiful though)

This is a cheerful, clean scent. Testing a sample today and 8 hours in, I can still pick up a lovely fresh spicy and sweet greenness, though the projection is super low and I have to basically have my nose to my wrist. Next time I try this, I'll spray more generously and on clothes too.

I would describe this as a cold green clean scent profile. Somehow a garden with no flowers and no sun. Maybe it's the power of suggestion but I do smell a hint of pea on the front. I also smell a touch of mint. Definitely lots of green notes but I appreciate it isn't bitter at all.

Hmm, it’s that sweet pea scent—brought out by the iris, quite pure. In the dry-down, the pea note becomes less sharp and turns into something similar to the pea scent in Jo Malone’s Sweet Pea and pear.

So vegetal, so green. I don’t get iris in the usual powdery form I encounter, it’s really just so bitter aromatic on me. Interesting, and good if you would like to smell like a garden.

Iris de Gris by L'Artisan Parfumeur evokes a cottagecore mood. It smells of freshly snapped pea pods, sun-dried laundry, clean white linen. Fresh, natural, and understatedly elegant.

The scent profile is quite accurate and beautiful but it's so powdery to my nose. I wish it was more wet smelling.

I’m usually a fan of Quentin Bisch, but this one is far too sharp, and it’s easy to get annoyed by the scent after a while. It reminds me of Memo Italian Leather, sharp, pointy, and definitely not a blind buy.

I WISH I LOVED ITTTTTT, I'm not getting the peas as much as I am getting SMOKE and ASH. Would have killed for a dusty refreshing vegetal pea scent but it just smells like a grassy ashtray to me :((((

I can think of two samples in the last thirty that I’ve wanted to wear two days in a row. This is one of them and by far, the biggest surprise. I forgot the note list when I got the Potager sample set, so the green note that first came across did not immediately register as “pea”. Maybe galbanum? I’m glad I didn’t have any preconceived notion. The first blast is very earthy, very nursery, loamy-rich-you just finished potting bulbs in the yard - and the most luscious Iris ever. Just ever. The thing I hate about most Iris perfumes is that they become powdery or candy sweet. This one doesn’t. It never loses that fresh, delicious, real orris purple cold that smells like winter and bloom at the same time. So, after a few hours, the brighter citrus top of the bergamot has burned off but the oily underbelly remains, mingles with the earthy pea and the purple, cool iris, and they become what to my nose, I can only describe as grey suede. Super unexpected, outside my comfort zone and nothing like anything I usually go for. I’m thinking of buying a FB. I think it’s perfect for winter. Oh, also, I sprayed it on at bedtime and could still smell it on my skin in the morning.

Oh this Quentin B. He keeps hitting these scents out of the park. A lot of iris perfumes get caught up in the usual ingredient suspects/molecules: carrot seed, Orivone, etc. But this one seems like it's really built around real Iris Pallida. So soft and buttery with a touch of violet. It's wrapped beautifully around this vegetal green accord...almost like pea pods ripped right from the ground. If you focus hard enough, you can pick up the fresh mint leaves. It all settles to a skin scent of transparent musks and a touch of ambroxan. Nothing about this is trying to be edgy or whacky or "challenging". It's linear but confident. It's airy but has a persistent presence. One of the most unique Iris perfumes out there.

The initial icy pea in Iris de Gris is quite a nice diversion and I imagine is a skillful trickery using pyrazines for effect (there is in fact a green pea pyrazine used in perfumery). It's a pleasure to experience and really is unlike anything else I've come across in perfumery. This accord does seem to fizzle out as a pleasant, if not somewhat "painted by numbers" iris comes through and just lacks the personality to follow up the dazzling pea. What's more unfortunate is that it takes a turn for the worse when an insufferable woody-ambery thorny thicket invades further into the development, making me want to wash it off entirely. Bisch is so damn hit or miss for me. This one is sadly a miss.

This is absolutely fresh and clean green in a gorgeous, elegant way. Vegetal initially, and then on the drydown it smells somewhat jammy and fruity with the bergamot coming out. It is very green and bitter if you sniff your skin, but almost minty in the air or scent bubble around you. Like others on here, I decided to buy a full bottle after sampling it. Unfortunately L’AP doesn’t seem to sell bottles smaller than 100 ml so I’ll have my bottle for a while. I definitely felt it was unique and needed in my collection, although time will tell if it becomes a staple. Maybe it’s only office-appropriate. Edit: happy to report that my husband loves this and is using my bottle up.

A dirty, gritty, earthy, lightly minty green atop a bed of pretty purple Irises. Dries down to a light airy floral green around 2 hours in. One of the most unique and interesting fragrances I've sampled. It is reminiscent of a spring day standing at the sink shucking fresh picked peas while a cool breeze from the window overhead gently fills the kitchen with the calming scent of the blossoming flowers, dirt and grass outside in the yard.

Notes on the scent card I got from L'Artisan Boutique: Pea Accord, Iris, Galbanum. Such an interesting scent! Fresh and green, it becomes more earthy as it develops. Beautiful rooty iris, not powdery. To my nose Pea Accord is a softer and sweeter version of tomato leaf/vine, if you like tomato leaf but find it a bit too sharp, definitely give Iris de Gris a try!

This is a very realistic green pea scent. It smells like you’ve just snapped a green twig in half and the sap is now on your fingers. It’s very green and almost citric. I’m not sure where I would wear this and who could pull this off, but it smells as if you’ve been gardening all day long. The smell of a gardeners hands. A little too realistic for me.

Bois D’argent minus the myth honey like odor, but almost the same ( original formulation) has a fresh green undertone which makes a very good substitute in my opinion, a very pleasant experience with the whole line. When develops can go to the direction of “ untitled” but lacks the galbanum. Overall good and lasts very long
