La Chasse aux Papillons Extreme

Guess what? I REALLY like this. It also brought me to an epiphany about niche fragrances, with an emphasis on L`Artisan Parfumeur. But later for that. This showcases 3 of my favorite notes: jasmine, tuberose and orange blossom. I must state, for the record, that these 3 notes are done with class. Subtle is the key word. The sillage is close and the longevity is deceptive, in typical L`Artisan fashion. After this is considered as having faded away, it pops back up every time the body heats up so that the development always comes as a surprise. One minute, this is all jasmine. Later on, you can detect the tuberose. Other times, the orange blossom takes center stage. At certain points in the development, all three of these notes are very active. The honey in the base is also very much "there" on my skin. I love how L`Artisan fragrances "play with the nose". I also love how my body chemistry reacts to these notes. It's pretty, but not prissy. A man can easily pull this off. I'd prefer to wear this with white. A crisp white shirt with pearl cuff links comes to mind when I take whiffs of this. Here's a point to be made about florals and men: florals are SUPPOSED to wear close to us. This leads to my epiphany: Niche = special occasions. Special occasions = closed distances during social interaction. Surely, your impression on the senses of sight and smell have been made before the fragrance seems to fade away. By then, you should be relying on your appeal to the sense of sound (your conversation) to extend your power of attraction. When this "epiphany" is taken into consideration, L`Artisan Parfumeur fragrances are completely justified. La Chasse Aux Papillons Extreme is no exception. Update: two sprays on fabric have reached a longevity of 28 hours now. Longevity is of no issue with this fragrance. I must note that I have dry skin. Still, I get 4 solid hours of this beautiful fragrance before it begins to fade in and out.

I can't believe that I forgot to review this one! This is my first L'Artisan Perfumeur. I bought a 100ml bottle for a half of its usual retail price: the perfume boutique where I'm a frequent customer was selling off the last remaining bottles of LAP fragrances, because they will no longer stock this brand. Anyway, this is soooo beautiful. I'm not the world's biggest fan of tuberose; I used to find many tuberose-centred scents too sweet, heavy and cloying. However, recently I discovered some tuberose fragrances that are great for everyday wear: be it light pastel-coloured tuberose such as in Gucci Bloom, or a quirky fresh tuberose as in Hermes Twilly. La Chasse aux Papillons Extreme falls somewhere between Bloom and Twilly: the tuberose is soft and not too sweet, and the addition of citric notes keeps it fresh and uplifting. Fortunately I don't get too many of the fruity notes, because I often find them offputting; instead, my trusty old sniffer detects tuberose, pink pepper, saffron, citruses and linden blossom. The addition of honey also brings to mind Zoologist Hummingbird, however La Chasse aux Papillons is a much lighter scent, even in this 'Extreme' version. I hate to slap fragrances with gender tags, but La Chasse aux Papillons is undoubtedly very feminine; it surely ranks among the top 3 most feminine scents that I own. The lasting power is not too bad on me, however, the sillage is soft, thus it's incapable of offending anyone even when oversprayed. All in all this is a very nice addition to my ever growing collection; it smells like a very expensive shampoo or bubble bath, and keeps me feeling fresh throughout the day.

This has almost the same beautiful scent as my beloved Aqua Allegoria Flora Nymphea by Guerlain. The first thing I noticed was the thick honey and mimosa notes that aren't listed. It has a magnetic fairy-tale feel. It can really transport you to a spring day, draped on a lounge chair, your hand swishing the grasses and cloudless skies with a hint of rainbows after the rain fades into the sun. I honestly feel like a fairy or princess when wearing it. It is so magical! It lingers for days if sprayed on clothing in the most appealing way and the scent comes and goes throughout the day and night. I would love to have it be more long lasting and cannot understand how anyone with a love of perfume could not appreciate this beautiful scent as it is one of the most complex and alluring I have ever tried. I love the scent beyond words. One spray and springtime bathes you in its warmth even on the coldest autumn day. It has a very comforting sweetness that just envelops. French Fairy-tales in every bottle!

Like others, I find the pepper quite strong. At first I didn't like that, but I've found it does a nice job of anchoring the florals. Without it, the perfume would be too light. I don't discern specific flowers, but I like that. CaP is a very nicely blended scent. I also like the fact that it doesn't linger - I can start the day with it, but end with something else. It also means that if I re-apply during the day it's unlikely to be overwhelming to others. Excellent work perfume. CaP is also wearable during migraines which is fabulous. I already feel lousy enough when I've got one; having to go without perfume too is insult to injury. It's a really lovely scent. One of my favorites. I don't see an entry for the EDT, so I'm adding that here. I often layer the EDT with the Extreme. I'm more likely to wear the Extreme alone though. The EDT is too sweet on its own and doesn't have enough pepper to anchor the floral part.

I love it. This scent made tuberose amazing in my eyes again. I hated this flower with passion for ages, then sort of stopped caring. When I first tried this scent a few years back, I did not care much. But now, now it is a completely different story. La Chasse aux Papillons Extreme is like a watercolour painting. The perfumer caught perfectly the fleeting feeling one gets when observing butterflies, so beautiful, in constant move, you blink and you risk to miss them. La Chasse is a wild butterfly dance, a spectacle of light, flowery and airy notes of a lovely, creamy tuberose, jasmine and linden blossom. The drydown offers a lovely honeyed ylang-ylang note as well. It's such a perfect scent for a summer day. It's quite hot outside at the moment, but I have an impression to be outside on a field full of summer flowers. One me both the lasting power and the sillage are very good.

La Chasse aux Papillons Extreme by L’Artisan Parfumeur opens with a face full of warm weeds. After one sniff, I braced myself for an allergy attack that (thankfully) never came. The sun drenched greens are peppery-hot and seem to share space with pencil shavings. Yep. Finally, the weeds calm down and the soapy floral starts taking over, but the weeds never really leave. Does La Chasse aux Papillons Extreme evoke a butterfly hunt in a warm flower-filled field? Yes: The fragrance has an innocent summertime feel and I’m enjoying it during the winter months. Also, longevity could be better, in spite of the fact that Extreme is part of the name. (I have this complaint with several LAP fragrances.) 3.5/5 delightful

From the minute I sprayed this perfume, all I could smell was wood and pencil shavings! I was immediately reminded of Sonia Rykiel Rykiel EDT. I cannot get any of the notes in the pyramid at all but I can't say that this is an unpleasant perfume. I quite like the sweet woodyness that I am getting and would say that this is a gentle and soft perfume which one could wear for work or play. Like most of the L'Artisan perfumes that I have tried so far, the longevity is slightly less than average and silage on this one seems to stay very close to the skin.

I'm surprised at how much I like this. I'm not into florals generally, just because I don't think they fit my vibe. But boy this has grown on me! I think I just discovered my love for linden blossom. The jasmine compliments it well. The drydown is my absolute favorite part - when the honey, linden blossom and ylang-ylang take over, it's just so good. My only objection is the blast of tuberose in the beginning - gets better in 5-10 minutes.

This will be an easy review to write: when I tested the original La Chasse Aux Papillons some time ago, I described what I hoped the Extreme version would be like, and that's exactly what I got, so I'll just copy-paste that here: "I was very eager to try La Chasse Aux Papillons because of the linden blossom note. I love blossoms in real life - they're so festive and emblematic of the middle of spring, that giddy, exciting time of year when everything comes to life again. And so far I'd only encountered orange blossom as a perfume note, so I was hoping to be taken on a walk through a blooming alley of linden trees with this one. And I wasn't disappointed, or at least not after giving the big blast of tuberose that dominates the opening half an hour or so to calm down. When it does come out the linden blossom note is just as great as I hoped : natural and a little nutty, unlike any other floral note I've ever smelled, a little intoxicating. Wonderful! It's just too bad about the opening - tuberose is a note I can take or leave, so in this case I would rather have skipped it and gone to the linden blossom straight away. Another minor complaint is the strength: after projecting nicely for about an hour (including the half hour opening I'm not wild about), this quickly develops into the kind of scent I keep forgetting I'm wearing unless my nose happens to be close to my wrist for some reason. So all in all I think I'd like to try the Extreme version of this one - it might be a little stronger, I like the idea of adding some honeyed apricots to this note list, and above all the linden blossom seems to actually be the star of the show in that one. Which isn't to say I won't enjoy my decant of this "regular" version immensely in the mean time..." So it's just as I hoped: a stronger, more blossom-focused version of the original. I don't get any apricot or any honey, but that's okay: that dominant tuberose isn't there anymore either, which really does make the linden blossom the star of the show, and I love it. For my taste there might have been a little less pepper involved, but I'll take it! Another one for my wishlist...

L'Artisan Parfumeur was doing the niche thing before niche brands became commonplace. Counting several masterpieces among their many creative compositions by top perfumers, the L'Artisan name is one of the most respected (and commercially successful) in the perfume world. While it can be difficult to source their most famous perfumes (Dzing! in particular for me), exclusivity is part of the package. La Chasse aux Papillons (poetic name) wasn't available, so I chose a sample of the Extrême version. I'm unable to compare it to the original, but it wears pretty close to the skin - not Extrême in the slightest. It is a nicely-composed white/yellow floral bouquet with points of interest. It isn't too sweet, despite the honey note alongside the florals - instead, it adds a realistic, polleny edge to the florals. LCaPE opens with hazy, fruity sweetness. Apricot is most evident, and there is a sweet orange edge. The florals emerge early on, with creamy tuberose leading the way. It is banana-like, as @ingrid.superstar below has said already. Spicy saffron adds a polleny effect, and the citrus blossoms enhance the fruity-floral sweetness to perfection. Ylang ylang follows, a logical progression - sweet, creamy and slightly tropical, tying in with the fruitiness. The honey note more resembles beeswax than sweet, sticky honey, but it complements the florals beautifully, making them more wildflower-like and realistic, while evoking images of bees. It fades to a hazily sweet, slightly powdery skin scent. Sillage is moderate while longevity is surprisingly long-lasting, despite this scent wearing fairly close to the skin. Feminine-leaning, and best worn during spring/summer days, LCaPE also would work well as a night-time/baby scent in the manner of Petit Guerlain for example. Deeply comforting and restorative, as well as evoking the image of bees in a garden of flowers, LCaPE is a beautiful and slightly unusual floral scent. Made with a light touch - it feels as if it is infused with golden light, like flowers in a garden as the sun sets. Good stuff from a great perfumer. 4/5.

I wanted to buy La Chasse Aux Papillons since I read "Me before You" novel and watched it's movie.I had high hopes for it as I love tuberose,jasmine,linden,orange flower,honey,saffron and apricot and I also love Emilia Clarke and I thought a perfume reminding of her should be superfeminine,beautiful,innocent,pure,youthful,angelic,soft also must have a sweet,lively girly naughtiness and passion hidden somewhere beneath it's innocence well,I can't consider this an unsuccessful blindbuy because it was highly discounted and it smells pretty,made of high quality,natural smelling ingredients and can make a perfect daily or office perfume in spring,it reminds me of Cartier Baiser Vole with it's lily note being replaced by tuberose but I'm somehow disappointed.it smells exactly like what I had imagined the original La Chasse Aux Papillons would smell:a light,fresh and slightly green tuberose centered white floral bouquet and that's it.oh and there's also a dash of pink pepper with it's usual pencil shaving dryness,I wish it wasn't there but fortunately it's not strong enough to ruin this perfume for me This perfume is truely lovely,very easy to wear and inoffensive,can make a bride perfume for a bride who's into light scents and I like it but I believe it could be among my top favorites if it delivered all the promised ones:it could be a masterpiece in my eyes if the sweetness was seriously amped up and if I could really smell honey,linden,orange flower,apricot and saffron in it.sometimes my nose is anosmic to some of the notes and I start to detect them after a while,I really wish it happens here too because even though I'm into white florals and this is nice and likable,I wouldn't buy such a simple bland perfume if I had sampled it first. by the way I'm ok with it's longevity and sillage.not that it's strong but it has moderate lasting power and soft to moderate projection on my skin Edit: An hour after application I can smell something like apple blossom hand in hand with a green tuberose

this is a floral alright! i get pencil shavings/woodiness, a buttery tuberose, ylang ylang, with linden on a lovely honey base. the pink pepper at the start loses it's sneeze pepperiness almost right away, yet retains the spicey/culinary pepper part (if that makes sense?) throughout. i wonder whether it is this note and the tuberose that mostly makes LCAP Extreme so persistent on me. i also detect a bit of creamy soapiness. i am surprised by this, because it says for men and women. ? ? it smells massively feminine to me! and i wear quite a few unisex (and mens) scents. i have many womens scents that are no where near as feminine as this. i adore ylang and i think that is what draws me to this scent. it's like a non-tropical super-flowery Fracas with ylang, a touch of woods, on a honeyed base. it projects and lasts for several hours, remaining quite persistent! (strong) and linear, before it begins to fade around the 5 hour mark. i need to keep retesting this, because i find it more bombastic than Fracas and i so far, have found it a little too much. the more i try L'Artisan creations, the more i am intrigued by them. they are just so evocative. it's as if they take the notes, add some natural smelling extracts and turn the whole thing around, to create less of a "perfume" more a "scented experience". there's a certain magic quality to them, that is alluring and a little unnerving at the same time. almost addictive. am looking forward to trying the non extreme butterfly chase (prefer to say "chase" to "hunt"). am awaiting a 7ml arriving next week.

LA CHASSE AUX PAPILLONS EXTREME is not at all what I was expecting: a more extreme or concentrated version of LA CHASSE AUX PAPILLONS. Instead, this is an entirely new composition, with delectably sumptuous notes. Only the core white floral/linden blossom is carried over from its namesake. EXTREME spices things up quite a bit, most notably with saffron and honey, both of which shine through in all their golden glory, illuminating the white flowers. There is also just the tiniest touch of pepper--a perfect complement--along with some ylang. To be honest, my only concern is with the name. "Butterfly hunting" seems so cruel to me, and "Extreme Butterfly hunting" or "Butterfly hunting--extreme" is even worse. I realize that the idea of chasing butterflies is suppoed to connote a childlike innocence, but the reality involves ending a beautiful life of freedom, ultimately pushing pins into the torsoes of living or once-living butterflies. It just sends shivers up my spine. Very similar, in fact, to my reaction at seeing a rabbit's foot: every rabbit's foot represents a slaughtered rabbit somewhere!!! But I digress. My problem with its name aside, I really like LCP EXTREME as a fragrance. It doesn't hurt that I happen to be quite fond of saffron and honey--in both cuisine and perfume. Some more good news is that EXTREME edp has much better staying power than its edt namesake--which seems logical, after all. On my wishlist!

This perfume is in my wardrobe mainly because it’s a French classic; and, lately, because I’ve fallen hard for florals. It feels like every heady spring blossom gathered into one bottle. The opening strikes me as green, bright, and fresh‐floral: a fragrance bursting with cheer and positive energy. Linden blossom lends an airy, yellow‐pollen softness at every stage. Pink pepper never reads as overpowering to me; I just get a sparkle of brightness from it. In the heart, while everyone seems to detect something different, I mainly pick up a honeyed, heady mix of ylang‐ylang and a slightly indolic jasmine. Oddly enough, the sweetness sometimes reminds me of honeysuckle nectar. There’s also a leathery–honeyed–apricot nuance; almost like osmanthus though I can’t be sure; the composition is too sophisticated to pin down. It’s definitely not a simple tilia scent. I’m one of those who love Me Before You ; the fragrance is mentioned in the film (though only in the final scene), and wearing it always brings that feeling back. In short, it’s a charming scent that suits a breezy spring day; light, airy, and like holding a bouquet of flowers in your arms. Its biggest drawback is how delicate it is: for full effect, I have to spray 10–12 times.

La Chasse aux Papillons Extrême has a quite different vibe from the regular version on me. The tuberose is at the forefront right from the start, while the linden blossom and orange blossom seem much more subdued. The dazzling citrus is no longer to be found in Extrême version. Instead, it's a delicate warm citrus/apricot nuance hidden in the white bouquet. The spices are also quite subtle on me. They, along with honey, cast a golden tinge on the white petals and render the scent slightly more creamy and with a little more heft. However, it's still far from being heady as there is still a faint green nuance anchoring the sweet redolence. The sillage of Extrême version is still quite close, and the longevity is around 8 hours. Without the playfulness from the prominent citrus, La Chasse aux Papillons Extrême somewhat feels like a more sophisticated, sunset version of the drydown in the original LCaP. A very graceful and enjoyable white floral. If you happen to be not so fond of the citrus element in the original, you may also have more luck with this Extrême version.

Anyone here trying this L'Artisan because of 'Me before you'? After watching the movie and reading a book, I decided I need the sample of this. I thought it must be something exceptional. Was I wrong? A little, because as long as it's the perfect scent for Lou (the girl from the book), it's not as breathtaking as I expected. I imagined this must be some amazing, dreamy floral - and it is. It's even more, like a garden full of herbs and flowers. To me, it's got the same vibe as Givenchy Extravagance d'Amarige (that I love!) somehow, though it's slightly different of course. What I mean is, LCaPE is more of a spring garden kind of thing and less artistic. It's pleasant, but lacks something magical. I love the base though - the herbs are gone, and lovely warm lemony scent appears. I might own a bottle some day, but as I have EdA by Givenchy, I don't feel desperate to do this. The staying power is not amazing,up to a few hours only, but I'll give it a try on a less hot day. Overall it's a nice, green floral. Feminine and well done :)

Funny name.. extreme chase after butterflies of chase after extreme butterflies.. "Just joking... Once again L'Artisan shows me how not only dry spicy perfumes are utter gorgeous, but also floral. The very top was so gorgeous I smelled it and thought it was divine. Creamy citruses mixed up with saffron flutters around you like butterflies. Until here comes florals. In fact heart smelled very like something I was familiar and I couldn't remember what exactly. But as more florals developed, become stronger with it's floral sweetness I remembered finally - my mum had a perfume (I think it was cheap) called Blue Lady or something- it held the same aroma, the same I can find in Armani Code edp, so if you liked Code this is similar (although I don't see why some would require 2 similar perfumes..) Lasting power is weak. It is, it stays barely there after few hours (only a little honey-like hint left). Too bad.

One of the most ethereal tuberose scents I've come across. Usually tuberose for me is lush and seductive like Jessica Rabbit but here it's as innocent and doe-eyed as Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. Very aptly named, it's as soft and fragile as I would imagine the brush of a butterfly would be. I would advise liberal sprays with this one to really get the scent going, no matter how heavy handed one gets, this still stays airy fairy like. Like with most L'Artisan scents I've come across, beautifully constructed but sadly lacking in the sillage and longevity departments. I would get around this the next time by buying enormous bottles and hit the spray button like a jackhammer. I would recommend this even as a blind buy or a gift.

This fragrance feels warm and softly honeyed. White and yellow flowers, with a hint of citrus, and a sweetness that reminds me of honeysuckles. Apricot lends a fruity warmth and enhances the florals, making them feel in full bloom. I don't get much pepper, perhaps just a spark at the opening. For me, it has a soft melancholic undertone. Maybe because of the apricot and honey, it feels as if dimly lit, the golden hour at the end of a summer afternoon. The scent of flowers lingering, warmed by the sun all day, infusing the air. Butterflies were just moments ago fluttering about the flowers, now retreating for the night, leaving behind an echo of their graceful presence. I haven't tested the original EDT yet to compare.

Yes! This is very gorgeous! It's sweeter and creamier than regular Chasse and has more ompph and less naivety. It's an intense sunny white floral. I smell more than just honey and ylang-ylang in teh basenotes, maybe some woods. It's like La Chasse aux Papillons grown up, more womanly, less girlish (well, more expensive for a tiny bottle also...), more rounded but stronger too. I don't think it could be disturbing unless people around you are some sort of floral-haters. It's very difficult for me to imagine this one on a man! Far too feminine! It would seem like someone who stole his sweetheart perfume to feel her close to him. The worst part as usual with L'Artisan is staying power. Dommage!
