Le Chant de Camargue

Le Chant de Camargue was such a pleasant surprise for me: I got a little decant because I just couldn't resist this wonderful, evocative name, but I wasn't expecting much from it based on the list of notes. That's always a good set-up for a potential Discovery, and that proved to be the case this time: instead of the generic, slightly chemical scent that I associate with notes ending in "-one", I got a bottled cool summer day in a maritime nature reserve. It kind of reminds me of Un Jour d'Eté by Keiko Mecheri: the note lists look nothing alike, but both of them combine fresh, natural summery notes with a salty maritime edge, creating the effect of a secluded seaside summer vacation. And although this one is much lighter and the vacation is a little further from the beach this time, it inspires the same kind of spring fever in me: it makes my heart beat faster, and it makes it possible to imagine the end of winter on this dreary day in February. In this case, it's the really great, sparkling bergamot note that provides the freshness, and then (now I'm just guessing )I'd say the rice note combined with the slightly salty sandalwood and/or those synthetic notes calls to mind the landscape of Camargue (although of course I never would have guessed that without the name, and I'm a sucker for marketing like this, I still think it's particularly easy to go along with it in this case). However it's done, it's making me sniff my wrists all day long every time I wear it, and that's always a good sign. I wouldn't be surprised if my little decant turned into a larger amount in my collection at some point... and I'm in a hurry to try the others in this series now, as well.

Le Chant de Camargue is something of an oddball... First, I think the name is a bit misleading. I've never been to the Camargue region, which the internet tells me is made up of marshy plains, so I can't comment on how appropriate the scent is to its character. However, the fragrance is far more subtle than I would expect the heraldic song representing a region to be. What I smell instead is my childhood blanket, which, through much time and love, absorbed the smells of gentle moisturizers applied after bath time and before sleep. I believe that this lotion effect is probably accomplished through the use of the molecules paradisone and hedione. The savory milkiness of the rice and sandalwood enrich this scent, and the citrus touch of bergamot lifts it every so slightly into a sheer, fluffy cloud. Partway through the opening, I'll be honest, I get a bit of a baby wipe smell, but the more creamy, salty elements eclipse it before too long. I can even imagine the faintest hint of nuttiness. If you are looking for the ultimate lotion scent, look no further. Although it is a soothing scent, the performance is quite good. I get moderate sillage that sticks with me through the whole day.

In the store, this stood out in the Les Paysages as incredibly feminine, soapy, lotion-y and soft. I've been searching for AGES for a perfect, milky sandalwood that avoids going too milky (turns sour on my skin) or too herbal (too astringent and mentholated on my skin). And this is the one. When I saw the perfumer was Alberto Morillas - it absolutely made sense. This is classic Alberto Morillas - think Luxury by Mizensir. Feminine, creamy, soapy, luxurious beauty products. I actually don't get the bergamot at all - this is all rice and milky sandalwood to me. I get what people are saying in that it smells "old-fashioned" and "too powdery" - but that's exactly what I like. I like the old-school, mature Chanels as well, and this goes along a similar territory. Scent: 12/10 - I put this to my nose in the store and went "Oh my God." Soapy, sandalwood milk that reminds me of a bubble bath (as it dries down, it’s almost similar to my natural skin scent straight out of the bath or shower - a very specific scent that I’ve always wished I could bottle up, lol). If you like the scent of the Dove pink bar, this is like a perfume version - obviously a bit more complex with the slightly spiced sandalwood milk & the creamy florals. It’s ethereal, almost. Such an underrated gem from L’Artisan; the perfect cosy, clean, fluffy scent for everyday (and is also LOVELY to wear to bed!)

I was very curious about the rice element so sought this out. I loved it immediately because it was elegant, creamy, white, atmospheric beauty. I haven't smelt anything else quite like it, so it fits nicely into my fragrance wardrobe. This made me immediately more classy by a factor of 50 and one other perfume does this for me, that is Bvlgari Omnia. It turns out that Alberto Morillas knows how to make people feel elegant just by the perfume they wear, thank you! This is great to wear anytime, anywhere.

Powdery bergamot, I guess rice gives this powderiness, creamy sandalwood with a very fine soapy vibe. It envelops you like a mediterran air. It isn't actually sweet, but woody fresh. Beautiful!

subtle, sweet, but not too much. The sandalwood peeks through to lure you in. Very sensual and comforting scent.

The citrusy opening of Le Chant de Camargue is a startling one that caught me off guard—not unpleasant, but a little unexpected, almost like the bergamot had been tinged with a faintest splash of nail polish remover. It’s not the smoothest of starts, but the natural brightness of the bergamot manages to overpower any synthetic edge. Thankfully, this phase is fleeting, quickly giving way to something far more intriguing and soft. Behold a beautifully powdery rice accord both warm and comforting, less like the bowl of steamed rice in Diptyque's L'eau Papier and more like a handful of fresh dry grain releasing a delicate, starchy warmth. There’s an almost tactile quality to it, reminiscent of fine rice flour dusted gently over smooth wood. The sandalwood backdrop begins to reveal itself too, with a subtle floral touch contributing further to the clean and musky feel—perhaps hints of lilac or iris, peeking through the rice accord. This comforting interplay of clean and warm elements is absolutely endearing, soothing but not the least bit boring. If you're into powdery, musky warmth, with subtle gourmand touches, the simple elegance in each layer of this scent unfolding will so definitely enchant you, much like it did with me.

Such a beautiful and evocative name. I want to go full bottle just for this, Le Chant de Camargue. Camargue is a south-west area in France surrounded by the Rhône and the Arles. One of France's most beautiful natural landscapes. Unique, full of greylag gooses and of pale wines. Le Chant de Camargue opens with fresh bergamot sprits that will fade away after a few minutes. There's a quite mild acid or tart aura that takes over. White florals are almost green here but fluffy, I see goose feathers walking along the waterline. It's such a soapy scent ! I cannot say that enough. Woody drydown but I can't agree with Fragrantica's accord listing. If i'm honest I love the idea of this perfume more than the perfume itself. It smells amazing but all in all it's a scent that we all know or have encountered in the past. Shampooesque almost. The drydown is my favorite part - lactonic and woody qualities are beautifully synched with the monochrome whites of the opening. It's also an intimate scent - sits close to the skin and doesn't intrude other personal bubble than your very own. If you're looking for a neutral clean fragrance, comforting and cozy, that doesn't smell like a ''perfume'' per se, this is a gem for you.

What can I say about Chant de Camargue? A rice water, milky and salty. Between the mistral wind, the sun, and the sea. The salt harvests, the wild horses, and the saline flowers. Everything reminds me of the brighter atmosphere of "Un Jardin Sur La Lagune" by Hermès. They have nothing to do with each other olfactorily, but it's a vibe. This Artisan Parfumeur is drastically less iodized and much more floral. A morning in the marshes, a breeze drying hanging white sheets, almost translucent. The sandalwood is strangely crafted, like driftwood. A scent of sweet almond, pale musk, modest, even monastic. A little too "clean linen" for me. It might also suggest certain Kenzo fragrances. I like salty rice water, those hazy memories...

I agree with the other reviews about this scent having a lotion quality to it. Though that's not to say it smells cheap or basic, it's actually bordering on unusual. Rice is by far the most detectable note, though it stays more in perfume territory rather than veering into edible. It's cozy but also retains a freshness, which I'm assuming to be the bergamot, despite not being an obvious note. Works in the summer and seems to last most of the day. Unfortunately there is something a tad synthetic smelling in the throw that feels discordant, and perhaps it's just more floral than I'd prefer. Overall this is not a love for me, but it is a like and I have gotten cravings for it on occasion.

The first time I sprayed this I did not like it, and only sprayed it on its card. But I decided to give it another chance today. I sprayed it on my skin and I am pleasantly surprised. The opening is what throws me off, it is very peppery to me. I suppose that could be the bergamot note but usually bergamot does not come off as peppery to my nose. Anyways, this drys down to a nice, sandalwood skin musk. It is warm and comforting. I don't really pick up on the rice note, maybe a tiny bit of the floral notes. This is a scent you wear when you're going to sit by the fireplace with a book and a cup of tea.

This scent introduced me to rice as a note, and I'm very grateful. Rice and sandalwood make this an incredibly cozy scent, and if you already love sandalwood but want to try something a bit different, I highly recommend this one. This feels like a hug in a bottle, and it's one I'd enjoy smelling on someone else a lot as well. Warm, woody, powdery, and a little milky. Lovely!

A very fresh delightful fragrance. Very sweet but I think men can pull it off with ease as well. Performance I am not so sure about as I smelt this on paper and do not know the performance. If you like sweet fragrances and unique fragrances get this one. 8/10

Powdery floral. Feels like some Chanel scents. I find it very classy. Tweed set with heels in London vibe.

To me, this smells really aquatic and tart, which has a 'fresh' effect. There is some indistinguishable floral notion in here. I don't get any rice or powder, but something grain like or cereal like which is very short-lived. The dry down is a typical sandalwood note, that is on the acidic side. Overall, it's very reminiscent of every day bath and body products. Longevity and sillage are bellow average, but it lingers (albeit very close) on your skin, it also doesn't last on fabric. If I were to smell this fragrance on somebody else, I wouldn't have any reaction to it, neither in the negative or positive sense. It just doesn't leave any impression and remains quite faceless. It's pleasant but forgettable. Unfortunately, I find it too forgettable for the price tag. It feels like this release might've been targeting the Asian market.

I bought a sample of this to try out a few perfumes with a rice note, but I don't find the rice to be front and center. It's there, I suppose, but I wouldn't qualify this as a "rice" perfume. This is mostly a powdery, synthetic, slightly woody scent. If you like powdery perfumes, I would definitely recommend this one because I usually hate powder and this one is rather nice and not overpowering. It's reminiscent of a vintage luxury scented powder puff. It smells refined, but like a refined, scented powder. I get the sandalwood, but I don't get the bergamot at all. I'm a little disappointed it isn't more rice-forward and I don't typically wear powdery scents, but it is quite nice for what it is. 6.5/10.

The top notes have a rice aroma, but unlike other rice-sandalwood scents, this one leans more toward a powdery fragrance—almost like a blend of Santal Basmetic and Tom Ford's Santal Blush. However, the base notes aren’t great; they feel a bit too much synthetic

Didn't like it. It's ok. It's a sandalwood fragrance. But, First there's a funky cooked rice odor hits. Sour almost. There's barely any lemony-citrus scent. The sandalwood is harsh. Really harsh. I caught only a trace of any white flower or jasmine. Or something trying to be, but misses the mark. It's performance is like a soft cloud about you. But, It doesn't really smell like anything other than dry sandalwood. It's hard to explain. Might be a good one to layer with. Maybe L'artisan, the Linden flower one. Or to crank up a nice vanilla or sandalwood perfume. But otherwise. This one is a hard pass. It's also, way too to synthetic for me.

The opening is very marine and salty, almost iodic. I was immediately turned off. Then the rice note kicked in and it was calming, milky and somewhat comforting. Something a breast-feeding woman would wear. Or a nurse. Or a nanny. Maybe the lactonic feeling brings this Motherhood vibes. At the time it is still musky and powdery. It becomes a skin scent after roughly one hour. It does stay a bit longer on the hair, but I consider this a total robbery to have a niche scent that dissapears after 1 hour. I will not be grabbing a bottle for sure. Try before you buy on your skin.

Le Chant de Camargue is very powdery, but in a baby powder kind of way. On my skin, there's a strange funkiness to the powder which I can't quite explain. I'm not very familiar with paradisone or hedione, so that may be it! Aside from some light florals and woods, I don’t really get much else. It isn’t quite so overwhelmingly powdery once it has settled after an hour or so, but still feels quite mature to me personally.

There is a beautiful powdery rice note here, right at the beginning, which made me think I was going to love this and need to buy it. But it is fleeting and then it becomes very strongly synthetic afterwards to my nose - very intense sandalwood, and a dose of iso e super which prickles my sinus and musk, unbearable sadly. And it does smell somewhat salty.

Mmm strange... It opens quite fragrant and fresh with a greasy sandalwood and coconut soap and rice powder. It has a more masculine and mature attitude even if it wants to seem fresh, anisic. It reminded me of Blv by Bvlgari...a little greasier and creamier.

This reminds me of something a very mature woman would wear. Old lady powder with a floral undertone. No thanks.

I can barely smell this on my skin, and what I can smell just smells like soap suds

As the 5th member of Les Paysages line, L’Artisan parfumeur continues its tour of French landscapes, inviting Alberto Morillas to bottle the Camargue. This region is famous for its paddy fields. That’s why Mr. Morillas made it based on Rice smell. This journey is limbued with sweetness & purity. The nose is tickled with a bergamot zest, the hair is ruffled by a mineral & saline breeze, we are right at the heart of a rice field. A halo of powder & cottony bright. Morillas masterfully handles the concept of white. It’s cloud-cosy, transparent & clean. We happily wrap ourselves up in this bracing & calming beauty. This perfume a little reminds me of Creed love in white because of its pudding like vibe. It’s rice & sandalwood amazing pair!

This is a gentle scent from Artisan. The initial bergamot barely appears on my skin, transitioning very quickly into a coconut (with emphasis on the nutty element), lotiony smell with bursts of hedione. It settles into a salty, coconut flake (as in the food) scent with ongoing visits from the hedione. I agree with the other reviewer who mentioned the 'atomospheric' quality of the scent. There is something roomy and vaulted here despite the smell being fairly conservative. I think there is something in the blend that I can't seem to smell since I have a fair bit on my skin but there is moments that the scent seems to 'cut out', fizzling away, and escaping my nose.

Wel, this is weird. All I can smell, after 20 minutes on my wrist, is fig ... Not listed, and neither is the blast of leather it started off with. I have a sample straight from l'Artisan Parfumeur, so it seems unlikely that the juice has been mixed up. After the initial association with leather and horses (you know, the Camargue etc - although the wild horses there don't wear saddles of course), it's just fig, fig, fig and a little bit of sandalwood. And fig. No florals, no musk, no soap, no powder. Fig.

THIS, I think this is a modern masterpiece. It’s a gorgeous, musky sandalwood fragrance that extends the natural sweet milkiness of sandalwood and combines it with soft, powdery rice notes which in my humble opinion, is a genius idea. It smells AMAZING on my skin, very delicate and not quite like a perfume, more like a lovely skin scent that would make people wonder where this delicious smell is coming from. It doesn’t last very long but I don’t mind respraying it to get the delicious rice notes again.

Oh this is lovely! Alberto Morillas is one of my favorite perfumers and he uses the rice note so well in this as well as his creations Bulgari BLU and Armani Sensi. I really love most things I have tried from L'Artisan. Le Chant de Camargue reminds me ever so slightly of L'Artisan Bois Farine, although that one is more raw woody flour and this one is more creamy and a hint of sweetness. But this is like a hug from an important woman in your life whose demeanor is soft, kind, generous and warm.

This is a gem.....I love the open, yet warm atmospheric quality about it, and I find it to be very elegant and smooth. Definitely unique and I find it to be very wearable and attracting. This is a most classy, soft, and just slightly sweet fragrance that reminds of someone of who is comfortable in their own skin, and who dos not need to hit someone in the face with an overpowering perfume. Once you get there, you are there and everyone is better for it.

Blind buy, well it's ok but I'm not in love with this fragrance. Morillas: BLV by Bvlgari, Oxygene by Lanvin.. Le Chant de Camargue has the same vibe of these scents. It's a beautiful work by Morillas. Clean, white, soft but not sweet. Elegant. But I'm not speechless so I'm a little disappointed.

The opening is soft and powdery, the middle a tinge of peppery all on the lasting smoothness of sandalwood. This captures the place between too sweet, too clean, too green. Worth a full bottle will be worn easily yet still be distinctive.

Beautiful scent . Powdery musky bergamot with little creamy sandalwood . The only sandal perfume I love .there something delicious soupy about it . Love it
