Sur L'Herbe

Looove this one. Of all the L’Artisan Parfumeur citruses, this one is by far the most citrus-forward, fresh and juicy, in my opinion. (I haven’t had the opportunity to try Soliel de Provence yet, so if anyone can make a comparison it would be much appreciated!) In this one, the fresh lemon and bergamot really pop. There is a lot of zest and it has a lime tanginess as well, similar to Baducada but with only 20% of the sugar. This smells like a bowl of sliced citrus and fresh lemongrass, chiso, and basil leaves, with just a sprinkle of crystalline sugar. The musk is sparkling and transparent, and the woodiness is very green and subtle, and just adds a fresh green from-the-branch context, like when you get fresh lemons at the farmers market with some stems and leaves still attached. It is very un-powdery, very bright, and to my nose there is no trace of synthetics to the fruit or blossoms. It is gorgeous! I tried it next to all my citruses and the most similar were Penhaligon’s Castile, Jo Malone Lime Blossom, and Serge Luten’s Fluers de Citronier. This is by far the brightest and most refreshing, from my perspective. Longevity is amazing- it keeps the zest quality for several hours. I saw the comparisons to au Bord de L’Eau, and my experience of it was quite different. That one had an powdery sweet element that I did not like at all (some people compared it to the “fresh” scent in baby wipes) and to my nose, citronella mosquito candles. I got both bottles at the same time and promptly re-sold that one and got a back- up of this instead.

This is probably the best summer cologne! Opens with lemons ang green grassy notes and it’s reaaaaaally refreshing, sparkling, and strong. I love the drydown which is powdery, musky, sexy! And i am so surprised about its performance. It proyects so much, lasts days on clothes. Eau de Cologne is just a name for the style of fragrance but trust me, this sexy beauty has a very very great performance. I prefer this over nishane’s colognise and all those other summer colognes. This one has much more power and it smells so natural, and that sugary powdery musky drydown id damn sexy :-) Tested from a 2020 bottle bought on the l’artisan website, 5 sprays. Love this house.

I purchased a full bottle about 6 years ago and eventually ran out of it. Sadly, I wasn't able to find it for a long time. For an EDC this fragrance packs a PUNCH! Literally, this would last on my skin for 12 hours. The orange blossom is so well done and it's the shining star of this fragrance. It leans a bit feminine, but I think a guy could pull it off. I've been collecting fragrances for about 6 years and this was one of my very first purchases so it's near and dear to my heart. Great daytime fragrance for the warmer weather.

This was a blind buy and I'm so happy about it. It absolutely smells like the painting it was named after; green, lush, slightly naughty but overall very very fresh. I believe this would perform amazingly during a hot summer but I'm totally fine wearing it in September. I was kind of concerned that it was going to be a harsh smelling boring masculine perfume with the neroli and amberwood combo, but everything is just masterfully blended. Smells so smooth and expensive.

As michael said above, i really can’t understand how people rate this with intimate projection... I also get a lot of longevity. Maybe try to spray it from the bottle and 5-6 sprays around the neck so it gets on the clothes too? On my shirt it doesn’t go away in weeks until i wash it.

This is a truly delightful citrus aromatic- the neroli and lemon are prominent, with just enough green notes to add freshness- decent staying power for an EdC- Reminds me of my other favorites in this genre- Escale a Portofino and the Au Pays Neroli Blanc- Highly recommended!

Fresh, classic, uplifting, but so smooth and calming, I want it so much! It reminds me of Mugler Cologne, which is a bit too harsh for me, and of Petit Matin of Maison Francis Kurkdjian, which smells a bit too milky and musky for me. Love!

Sur L'Herbe opens with clean, fresh, invigorating lemon and bergamote. These citrus fruits are not here to provide their tart juicy pulps, but their refreshing, herbaceous rind. There's also a bracing soapy note during the first few minutes of the opening, which gives me a brief association of citrus-scented cleaning product, albeit far from being aggressively sharp. After this brief prelude, Sur L'Herbe soon mellows into a green neroli lying languidly on a cushion of white musk. The neroli here retains its slightly bitter, herbal leafiness and limpid citrus tartness. But it feels so gauzy and lack of edge, as if it's in a photo where it's already out of focus, and then a filter of white musk is applied upon. Fortunately for me, the white musk here is not sharp at all, but smooth and tenderly sweet. As it diffuses more and more into the silent neroli, Sur L'Herbe eventually becomes a mildly sweet, musky skin scent with an echo of green. Sur L'Herbe is mostly linear during its 6-hour longevity. The sillage is extremely close to my skin, and I have to stick my nose on my hand to smell it after about 40 minutes. Sur L'Herbe is said to be inspired by Manet's painting Le Déjeuner sur L'Herbe, with which I'm unable to make the association. Sur L'Herbe is such a simplistic and easy-going fragrance, that I envision it like applying more and more strokes of white on a grassy green background until it becomes a very pale green. Inspiration aside, Sur L'Herbe is a quite enjoyable clean neroli, nothing excessively laundry-like or sharp. Its streamlined character also makes it very easy to appreciate. It also corresponds well with the idea of the "Cologne Collection" and the overall aesthetic of L'Artisan Parfumeur. If you happen to be looking for a soft, fresh, easy to wear green neroli fragrance, I think Sur L'Herbe might worth a try.

Opens with fresh lemon; white florals take over quickly. There's a little bit of a musky, almost powdery vibe and I get the green notes suggested here. Light, fresh and very natural smelling. The white florals aren't screechy which is nice. Not the most complex composition but that isn't a bad thing. Straight down the road unisex and for any age range. Impressive all day longevity with nice performance on me. A very pleasant, clean, mass appealing scent for warmer weather; this couldn't offend anyone. I'm liking SL'H quite a bit. Not exactly a cheap fragrance but not unreasonably priced especially considering it's performance. Sur L'Herb smells very natural and wears easily. Proof of the concept that you don't need a lot of complicated notes for a perfume to be good. Excellent scent!

The citrus top here is SO good, but it quickly disintegrates, leaving behind a hazy neroli over bland greens.

This has a clean green briskness that carries me with it. I wear it when I want to get things done.

I bought it blind based on reviews. It was on sale recently on manufacturers's site. I bought it because I like fresh citrusy fragrancies. In my opinion, it is a male fragrance. The opening is so fresh and unisex, it is fresh, but not overly bright. It stays on my hair and cloths about an 1- 1,5 hour, which is fine with me. Then it develops into a woody (not amber wood for me), smoky, totally men's fragrance, which I smell for a long time. I did not like it.

It is nice for summer, indeed, but it actually smells like thousand other perfumes out there. Not very feminine, though, if you care about that. Fresh, clean, out of the shower kind of scent.

The clear glass is attractive. Now, just change the cap to gold and give us a pretty color on the label!

kept smelling my wrist after trying it, just soooo addictive. Would wear daily.
