Tonka Blanc

It’s a beautiful tonka bean scent with a fresh citrusy opening and nice green type of powderiness. It has a cauliflower note, but I think it’s not about the note, but the general impression from this scent: fresh, slightly nutty and unusual. My favorite so far from this collection. Persolaise described Tonka Blanc as the most conventional of the lot. I'm inclined to agree - it probably ties with Vétiver Écarlate in this aspect - but that's not to say it's boring. The powdery nuttiness of tonka here is juxtaposed against a cauliflower extract, which gives it an unusual warm, savoury, sulfurous facet. These combine to give the impression of milk powder - indeed, overall, it's reminiscent of dry milky sandalwood - imagine a more airy Meander (Amouage) or Palo Santo (Carner). Quite likeable, but also rather soft and unassuming and indeed doesn't really present something new - if one doesn't know this contains cauliflower, it definitely wouldn't come to mind smelling Tonka Blanc. The name is definitely well chosen though - it's soothing, comforting, grounding, like white linen and warm milk.

The opening is bright and tangy, immediately catching the nose with a nutty, almost citrus-tinged sharpness. It doesn’t smell explicitly like cauliflower, though I can see where that impression might come from—there’s a fleeting moment of something green and slightly fibrous, like zooming into a fresh stalk, but it doesn’t dominate. Instead, it’s more of an abstract nod to the fresh, vegetal quality, rather than a direct replication. The real magic happens though in the drydown, where tonka takes over, wrapping the scent in a warm, spiced sweetness both cozy and sophisticated. The transition from sharp and fresh to deep and comforting is one so surprisingly seamless, a well-executed balance of contrast—bright yet warm, fresh yet rich. A scent that invites closer inspection, one not too challenging.

Those going into this expecting the derring-do of the rest of L’Artisan’s Potager collection: look elsewhere. This is the tamest of the bunch by far, to the point where I’m not sure I can even pick up the alleged cauliflower note at all. But! If you remove this fragrance from the context of its marketing and don’t hold it to the standards of its very unique siblings, it’s actually quite nice! Predominantly sugary sweet tonka for the duration with a nice blast of juicy citrus in the opening. It does have a nutty quality to it, almond mainly. I wonder if that’s just how the cauliflower is expressing itself here. If you’re looking for something sweet and comforting but not quite gourmand, this is a fine option.

A perfectly delightful warm citrus -- if I smelled this alone and was not expecting a wildcard cauliflower note, I would describe this as a pleasant warm but fresh, easy-to-enjoy citrus. HOWEVER -- I was so hoping for something intriguing, earthy, weird, etc. with this one bc of the cauliflower note, and for me it's just not there. Kind of how I feel about Iris de Gris -- nothing unpleasant at all -- but earth-shattering? no.

Like most of the reviewers, agree that it is nothing special, but it is nice and very wearable. The problem is it's overpriced. Very balanced from opening to dry down and personally, I enjoy the fresh/brightness of the mandarin that comes out well on dry down, backed by the calm sweetness of the tonka. Can hardly smell the cauliflower, to be honest.

The opening is citrusy, gradually developing a milky note. I find it quite pleasant, but there seem to be many similar scents out there. The dry-down is rather powdery, but the overall scent is just average

nothing groundbreaking, but really nice and comforting; sugary and warm and creamy. To my nose, the cauliflower note reminds me of the smell of dineros, beautiful, used dollah bills :)

This is my least favorite from the Le Patager collection. I loved Iris de Gris, Vetiver Encarlate, and Musc Amarante. Each fragrance in this collection is focused on a unique and unexpected vegetable note, and in all of the other ones you can indeed immediately detect that note. Not here. I can not smell cauliflower at all, not in the slightest. I smell a very pleasant citrus and faint tonka bean, and that's about it. Utterly uninspiring and totally forgettable.

If I was being totally honest I'd say that I perhaps would NEVER have mentioned a cauliflower in my review unless prompted by the sample card to do so. Perhaps my mind is conjuring/grasping here, I freely admit it, but if this is cauliflower, then it's 'creamed cauliflower' not quite cauliflower cheese, my missus makes a kind of healthy (healthier) version anyway with milk and a kind of roux. Anyway... This is a strange fragrance anyway in the sense that the mandarin orange and perhaps bergamot opening doesn't quite give an instant flavour of what lies beneath but this is no doubt a creamy, vanillic, tonka bean fragrance. In all honesty, I don't like it. The saving grace is that it's creative and I believe this has a home with someone, while I've smelled most of these effects before, I've never really come across them together. I think what adds to the vegetal aspect in a fragrance which at it's heart, is quite a sweet (I know vegetables can be and often are sweet but I mean in a more sugary, dessert sense) thing. Coming back to the Cauliflower, I get a really faint trace of nutmeg or mace, and I think that's what's giving this creamed, veg, vibe. I was prepared to love a tonka centric fragrance from a great brand, albeit with a silly name... TONK A BLONK... haha, from a great perfumer, etc..... but I just don't like it. Sorry.

the third scent out of this interesting line and my least favourite yet. I was so curious about the cauliflower and - no cauliflower in here, none at all, not cooked, not steamed, not roasted, not raw - none. All I get is a rather synthetic and stuffy, strong Tonkasweetness combined with an unfresh, similarly sweet mandarine (more the ones out of the can, not the cesty fresh ones sadly) If you like rather sweet and 'muffled' Tonka and don't mind a synthetic touch, you might like it. Was not for me.

I loved this on the card: fresh with a touch of warmth from tonka. On my skin, it is another story all together! This is pure cotton candy with a vegetable note at the end. It’s so sweet it’s gross. Such a disappointment!

Citrus, mostly warm thick slightly sticky sweetness.

They thought of a concept (vegetable notes) then crowbarred a load of perfumes into it. You can smell them and be like, "oh yeah, that's interesting" but in actual fact they're mostly awful and certainly nothing I'd ever put on my skin. This is the worst of the six. This is a ghastly perfume, really bad.

When I bought a sample o was really expecting more cabbagey , vegetal strange note coming through , but here is just musky powdery scent . It’s somehow reminds me of something , like a masculine perfume , I guess it’s allure by Chanel. It’s pleasant , comforting , like a soft grandma’s hug. Ahhh maybe that’s the resemblance of cauliflower 🤭

It is fantastic. One of the favs. I can't sense the cauliflower note though. The opening was woody and powdery, with the classic niche perfume bitterness. Reminds me of Amouage Reflection in that respect a little bit. I love the blend of citrus and vanilla, which reminds me of Xerjoff Uden's fantastic blend.

At first spray, the mandarin smells SO REAL, like fresh earthy sweet orange peels. Like somehow a cool mix of green & gourmand almost, I love it. But then after only 30ish minutes, it kinda smells like a fancy shoe store on me :/ very simple and clean though, not offensive.

Tonka-heavy for me. Very woody, wet and sweet. Kind of weird. I don't get the cauliflower here. The tonka, though, is very strong and weirdly enough green (?i don't get an actual note of cauliflower but maybe this is what the cauliflower contributes to the perfume).

mmmmm the cauliflower is delicious. its so sweet (in a natural way) and comforting but also bright with the orange. honestly a masterpiece. my friend and i are OBSESSED
