Velvet Oud

EVERY MAN older than his mid-twenties should try/or buy Velvet Oud!! Why? Because this is an incredible smelling, compliment generating, high quality, versatile, great performing, under-the-radar, dirt-cheap, LEATHER fragrance for Men!! How many leather fragrances are you currently aware of that check ALL of those boxes?!..... Yes, comprehensively, Velvet Oud is truly a HUGE hidden gem not to be missed!! VO's rather short open is its only relatively minor shortcoming: Initially citric sweet 'n sour for the first ten seconds or so, followed by the fragrance quickly "coming together" (fairly well) over the next ten minutes. Soon thereafter it becomes this truly incredible composition that you simply can't get enough of!! VO is also one of those fragrances where you can pick up on ALL of the individual notes listed above. What notes are NOT shown above--but which numerous others have accurately recognized and shared in their posts are-- the smell of raspberry, with hints of some tropical fruit, along with a supporting touch of floral. Leather is at the heart of the fragrance, with relatively-clean musk, amber, incense and cinnamon making up the base; and a minimal dose of inoffensive oud providing an intriguing touch of earthiness. Its very light powdery-sweet "finish" perfectly juxtaposes the tanginess of the citruses and raspberry, while at the same time adding a dusty and somewhat sophisticated dimension to this notably smooth and balanced composition. Many here compare VO to either Tom Ford's Ombre Leather or Tuscan Leather, and while it no doubt shares qualities and notes of both, neither best describe VO overall. VO is truly its own fragrance: Whereas both Tom Ford's leather fragrances are darker, more animalic, heavier in the air, and thus more sophisticated, VO exhibits a lighter/dryer and less animalic leather, is a relatively lighter and airier fragrance overall; being a generally more wearable scent owing to these qualities along with its somewhat brighter citrus-fruity essence. Hence, VO's "wider" versatility range--for both potential occasions and apparel--is a noticeable strength in comparison to TL, OL and numerous other men's leather fragrances. Consequently, VO wears extremely well for nearly all occasions from dressy-casual to formal. (This versatility and the scent's relatively universal appeal has made this my "go to" leather fragrance; one that I can see wearing for many years to come). As for the presentation, the bottle is niche quality, easy to handle and simply gorgeous; while the atomizer is quite exceptional too (focused light, medium or heavy spraying is possible). Performance for me is surprisingly great as I have dry skin and usually experience under-performance relative to the norm for a fragrance. But in this case I get 7+ hours of longevity, 2-3 hours of moderate-plus projection, and can actually smell VO around me much of the time worn, with (6) medium sprays. Finally, I rarely recommend for a blind-buy purchase.....or for a leather fragrance no less. But if there's to be one--THIS is certainly IT! Hidden Gem. Solid 9/10 @ about $22.

Velvet Oud opens with a sharp bergamot note, accompanied by cardamom accents — or simply the essence of a spice cabinet. The citrusy tartness is short-lived unless you go heavy on the sprays, in which case it lingers a little longer before giving way to something fruitier — an ambiguous sweetness that hovers between citrus and raspberries. Simultaneously, incense smoke rolls in, casting a smoky veil over the composition. Overall, a sharp contrast to what happens later. After the first few minutes, the fragrance seems to abandon any structured progression. Everything unfolds at once — controlled chaos — which honestly describes the fragrance better than any note breakdown could. The initial storm becomes far more wearable and refined, leaving behind a blend of sweet, smoked suede leather with a hint of spicy florals and a backdrop of animalic oud. There's also a noticeable aquatic, damp quality — not in a freshwater stream sense, but more like condensation forming on a cold surface, slightly green and reminiscent of fresh cucumber. In terms of olfactory associations, there's something about it that recalls the scent of an OSB panel in a hardware store or the interior of a high-end leather car (gasoline included). The glitter pen comparison I've seen in some reviews? Strangely accurate — there's a synthetic shimmer to it, an almost metallic, plasticky sparkle that runs parallel to its warmth. Projection isn't too strong, though I like it so much that I drown myself in overspray. Longevity is above average, and it performs best in cooler weather, but it's not too bold or heavy to avoid using in summer. While technically unisex, it leans slightly masculine, especially in the drydown. The bottle looks really nice and doesn't appear cheap, thanks to its crystal dome. Scent-wise, it exists in the same orbit as Tom Ford Ombre Leather and Tuscan Leather. It lacks the density and serious demeanor of Rasasi La Yuqawam, feeling airier and more playful instead. The resemblance is more conceptual than direct — if you analyze them by perception rather than note breakdowns, they don't align. At a certain stage in its shapeshifting, it slightly echoes my beloved Van Cleef & Arpels Midnight in Paris, possibly due to the sweet citrus laid over a leathery base. For the price? An absolute steal. It delivers an experience that isn't far removed from high-end offerings, yet at a fraction of the cost. I picked it up for €17, which means I can spray with reckless abandon. The result? A scent that feels a little mysterious, a little addictive — one that refuses to sit still. In my opinion, fragrances should transport us to beautiful or poignant memories because every significant moment in our lives has a scent attached to it. For instance, the smell of fresh tires takes me back to my school days when there was an MRF tire shop near my school, and I would always take a deep sniff as I passed by. Similarly, the scent of petrol reminds me of my dad filling up his Lambretta with petrol and a 10ml oil, and the intense aroma of incense brings back memories of attending funerals. Velvet Oud evokes a distinct memory for me as well. Every time I spray it, I envision glitters. It reminds me of those glitter pens we used as kids, with their various colors creating an enchanting effect on paper. That’s the same feeling Velvet Oud gives me. Now, let's talk specifics. The bottle comes in a royal black velvet box, making you feel like you're opening something truly precious. The design of the bottle evokes images of a palace in a Middle Eastern country, and the cap resembles a crown fit for a king. (Though, I must note, despite the large cap, the atomizer is quite small.) Upon the first spray, I get a sweet leather scent, which I particularly love as a fan of sweet fragrances. There’s nothing dirty about this scent; it’s so clean and smooth. It has a fruity undertone and hints of leather. Throughout, I experience a smoky and creamy combination, with persistent notes of cinnamon that I notice with every gentle breeze. The dry down is truly amazing, reminiscent of the interior of a luxurious car, and it lasts a long time. I haven’t tried the original Tom Ford Ombre Leather, so I can’t make a comparison. I wore it on a date night, and she loved it.

Unexpectedly beautiful blend and composition, considering the price paid. Ombré Leather was on my “to buy” list for years, but it was cost prohibitive. Enter Velvet Oud, who stole my heart. She’s telling a different story than OL, but retains the same main characters. The top is stun-NING, employing a sweet tropical fruit feel (mango and peach maybe?). The fruit is fresh and juicy, like it was pulled from the Hermès Jardin line, The scent is diffuse and airy, not at all hazy or cloudy as OL or TL. It sparkles brightly and golden like champagne in the air, as Joy Amin mentions in his YouTube review. Then, a smooth warm river of sweet rose, vanilla, leather, and oud begins flowing under that sparkle of fruit. This stage is absolutely gorgeous and mimics the texture of the packaging. At times I thought to myself this could be the second coming of Millesime Imperial, a perfected reworking. The packaging continues to be a mystery, as I cannot grasp all of the designing and manufacturing costs associated with bringing such an artistic bottle to the market for around $25. How does Lattafa do it? Reminiscent of a bottle Cartier would release. We should expect more for our money, and Lattafa delivers. 10/10, absolutely precious fragrance with a firm push to buy. This should/will be the new hype, bigger than CDNIM. Simply mind-blowing!

I agree with most of these reviews, this stuff is good quality! It smells well blended, balanced, smooth, all that. Lattafa scents seem to have that quality to them. I bought it for myself (woman) but I'd rather smell it on my husband. Not to say that I won't wear it from time to time as I gravitate towards more masculine/unisex scents. I thought the bottle was a little tacky from the pictures but, no, in person the presentation is gorgeous, especially the velvet cylindrical box/stand. IF you like this genre I say it's safe blind buy. Really nice cheapie. It's a hidden gem, let's keep it that way! As to the actual scent, this is clean, masculine, a bit linear, but I could also say minimalistic. It has a lovely depth and I agree with kristianagk that it smells a bit green. I don't get a heavy, animalic leather smell, it could smell like clean, fresh cut tanned hide. Very clean though. I think you could wear this to a formal event when you need to be conservative, when you are not the star of the show. Or you can wear this to work to bring some quiet glamour. I think it would be gorgeous on a man for everyday. Performance: it lasted on the back of my hand through hand washing. Doesn't seem to project like crazy but I think that is part of the quiet glamour. P.S. I asked my husband to guess the price and he said $90 soooo :D

Yep! This is a clone of Ombre Leather. For less than $20. What a DEAL! I was actually hoping that everyone would be wrong, and that this would be a clone of Dolce and Gabbana Velvet Dessert Oud, but unfortunately, it's not. It starts on skin a bit like a mix between Velvet Desert Oud and Tuscan Leather, but as it dries, it's absolutely a clone of Ombre Leather. I already had Afnan Rare Carbon ($35) in my collection, and in comparison, they're very similar, but Rare Carbon is STRONG! RUGGED! BRASH! UNAPOLOGETIC! This, on the other hand, is quite elegant 😍 it's balanced and well blended. I love both and will have use for both, equally. Which is right for you? Ask yourself if you value a more well-blended clone (Velvet Oud), or one that's louder with heavier leather (Rare Carbon). You can't go wrong with either one, but this is also cheaper than Rare Carbon. I also have the O.G. Ombre Leather in my collection and honestly, I think I'll sell it and keep the two clones. Lastly - This BOTTLE! The bottle is one of the nicest I've ever experienced. There's NOTHING cheap about it and it looks even more amazing in person. The cap is substantial, heavy and crystal clear, which you can't tell from photos. The cap clicks into place as well as any $200+ fragrance, and the bottle looks outright amazing.

Smoky Leather-Oud with a Soft Citrus Riding on Top... If leather was chocolate, this would be the extra-dark kind with citrus. This is a dupe of Ombre Leather Tom Ford (in between Ombre Leather TF & Tuscan Leather TF) with good general approximation and excellent performance. The fruity top notes over the darker leather are more citrus-y than raspberry or red-fruit. In the first couple of minutes I can feel the leather-y oud notes. Then as the sillage starts to open up, I'm getting some citrus notes that are more pith and rind than fruit, but serve to lighten and brighten the leather-y oud. Transitioning to the heart a smoky incense emerges with faint hints of cinnamon, and the citrus facet gains a slight fruitiness which over times forms itself into an airy citrus/fruity layer riding atop the smoky leather-oud. Musk here adds body to the smokiness, while an oud-y amber holds everything together. This has amazing performance for year round wear, but I would be most likely to wear this in a cooler, rainy season or on a rainy day. Amazing value and fantastic performance. It's a love for me. Sophisticated Leather in a Bottle: A True 9/10 Gem "If you appreciate the DNA of Tom Ford’s Ombré Leather but prefer something smoother and more versatile, this is an absolute masterpiece. The opening is surprisingly bright with a hint of citrus that cuts through the richness, quickly settling into a buttery, 'velvety' leather accord. It’s not animalic or harsh; it’s refined and commands respect. I wore this to a gathering recently and the feedback was incredible. Velvet Oud by Lattafa was my very first Middle Eastern fragrance, and it will always hold a place of honor in my collection. It offers a fantastic blend between Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather and Ombre Leather, capturing that rich, smooth leather vibe with a subtle Arabian twist. This is a hit! You MUST let the bottle marinate for like a month or two. But afterwards, great leather and raspberry! Projection and longevity is excellent. Judging this straight for what it is, I haven't had tried TF's TL or OL. Only critique is I don't think this is versatile. I only use this when I'm wearing a leather jacket or vest. The leather is so dominant with oud adding to its harshness, it'll throw me off smelling this and not seeing leather. On the greener side, because of that I think Velvet Oud is unisex. Besides the raspberry note, it smells like leather itself and not the characteristics we classify in masculine/feminine perfumery. Crazy you can have a quality fragrance for under $20. Don't let the price tag fool you, this is a great addition if you love leather

Have mixed feeling about this. Opening, the leather is strong backed by the incense which I like but the sweet smell that's running parallel with it, I'm not a fan of. Could easily be some floral notes which I don't see listed on here. Definitely not a citrus note I smell, I feel like its Raspberry? It eventually goes away and I smell straight leather for the rest of the time. Maybe some amber but nothing as powerful as the incense. This for sure is a date fragrance. Could pass as an office frag in the corporate world. Not a bad fragrance by any means but I don't like it 100% because of the sweet smell. Wish it was more smokey and less sweet. I'll still wear it for dates or networking because I know others will like it for a good first impression

Don't treat this as a TF dupe and you'll be charmed. :) I love this perfume and it's been one of my favourites for quite some time now. It's cheap, but the longevity and projection are no worse than in premium fragrances. It lasts the entire day on my skin and even longer on clothes. It's an autumny scent - warm leather with woody richness added by the agarwood. Although the incense is noticeable, it's still soft and doesn't overpower the main notes. I don't really pick up on the citrus here though, but that's a plus for me. I've noticed that this scent is very divisive - intoxicating for some, dusty for others. Personally, I love it. It's a true unisex, too, and very versatile at that.

Very good longevity. It stayed with me through an 8 hour shift. It smells very "purple," if that makes much sense - It's very dark and leathery but also a little sweet. Leather is the most prominent note, but the oud and the incense compliment it quite nicely. At certain points throughout the day it even reminded me of cucumber for some reason. It can be a bit cloying and even slightly caustic at times, but not to the point of being irritating. I would say it's just strong enough to be easily noticeable without overpowering your senses. It's definitely worth it for the price - a guy who's used to wearing designer frags asked me where I got it, and was shocked to find out it's only $17.

I'd say it smells about 80-85% close to TF Ombre Leather. The opening is forward with a strong and smoky leather smell and then dies down to an almost sweet raspberry smell with musk and oud. This smells very expensive and luxurious and the price for under 20 bucks is unbeatable value. It is fairly long-lasting, especially on clothes. I can see how the opening within the first 10 minutes can be harsh because you get an overwhelming smell of synthetic leather. I sort of don't mind it however because it smells almost like a new car or leather jacket but amplified x100. Once it dies down though, everything comes together to bring you a sophisticated and smoky leather fragrance.

An amber/Saffron heavy Ombre Leather alternative. Less smoky, and less sweetness, much more amber and saffron. Super high quality scent, though! It's a no-brainer for the price! I have both and like both separately, but for the money, if you're on a budget, this is the one to get. Side by side, they do have different feels, however. Ombre Leather has that deep signature play dough sweetness that many Tom Ford Private Blends have, and this doesn't. But, when you're not comparing them side by side, this one is a perfectly fine budget alternative! And this gets closer and closer to the original as it dries down. To me, this is Ombre Leather meets Velvet Desert Oud.

I recently bought this and have been getting so many compliments on it. it also lasts almost forever and it's still lingering in my room after I sprayed it a week ago. what I mostly smell from it is the leather and the cinnamon at first then I start to smell the musk, incense, and oud with the amber and citrus slightly noticeable. this fragrance can easily be defined as unisex as it has an equal amount of masculine and feminine scents at the same amount of power. it smells like a grandma's house balcony after drinking some chai and stargazing. I don't regret blind buying this at all it smells very humbling yet strong fragrance that compliments you well

For me this has been a great blind buy. I bought it for being a Tom Ford Ombre Leather dupe but after receiving it, I actually don't think it's that close to Ombre Leather - perhaps a bit more like Tuscan Leather. Nevertheless this is a great perfume. A bit "edgier" and synthetic than TF but still pleasant. Box and bottle are decent at this price point - the lid comes off pretty easy on my bottle so wouldn't travel with it nor bring it to the gym. Scent: 7/10 Longevity: 10/10 Sillage: 9/10 Box/Bottle: 6/10 Safe blind buy: 7/10 (if you're into the woody/oud/leather palette) Bang for the buck: 9/10

Initially, to my nose, the weak, harsh, and synthetic characterisations of this fragrance were unfortunately accurate. But because Lattafa somehow infuses their formulas with time released sorcery, after a few weeks maceration, Velvet Oud is not only better, but has transformed from 'yuck, never' to 'yes, please.' This seems to be a close study on the original Private Blend version of TF Ombre Leather 16 with additional rose, stronger, more ambery and spicy than the currently available OL edp - better, in my opinion. The fact that this stuff can be had for less than 20 USD is astonishing!

This is definitely one of the best cheap Lattafas that you can own. I've had this for over 2 years now ! and i have ombre leather + tuscan leather with other clones, this one stands out to be the smoothest, can be unisex if a woman loves leather scents. It's not that heavy, you get that violet gasolin kind of smell reminescent of leather, some spicy freshness due to cardamom, don't base your choice on fragrantica note breakdown, search on Lattafa's website and you'll find out ! Great scent with outstanding performance, 100% worth a try. The only downside of this fragrance is versatility
