Venezia Eau de Toilette

Sweet rich plum is what I get from this one! Really impressed with everything about it and also thumbs up for original scent that still counts as a gourmand but that plum gives it such a special twist to the whole experience. I have used 25 ml bottle in one week haha, when I went on my holiday and was constantly spraying myself with this frag. Time to repurchase!

Venezia EDT is a beautiful scent, very autumnal, hazy and romantic. I never tried the original Venezia from the 90s, at least I don't remember it. This was a blind buy. But when I first smelled this, it felt kind of familiar, so who knows. The opening makes very clear that this is a reissue of an older scent. The ylang-ylang and jasmine are both noticeable and they're done in an old-fashioned, slightly incolic way. Maybe the blackcurrant adds to that. There is also a touch of that mentholated note white florals can sometimes have. Then the other notes come in. Ripe peach and plum are the notes that give this an autumnal harvest feel. The flowers blend into the creamy, warm base of vanilla, sandalwood and balsamic notes. Everything feels supremely smooth and soft, ambery and warm. I tried this once in warm weather and didn't like it, this really works best on cool skin in the cold air. As it is an EDT it's not heavy, but the notes are just so warming that any more heat quickly becomes too much. I really like this a lot, but in the end I never feel comfortable when I wear it. The vintage style of the flowers just doesn't suit me, even though I love the vanilla base and am not averse to some 90s nostalgia. I might pass this on to someone who appreciates it more.

04. july 2012 If you were dissapointed with the re-release of "Venezia" year ago in EDP, then you must try the new EDT version. I don ́t like the new EDP version but i really like the new EDT, i find it to be closest to the original Venezia in EDT from the 90 ́s. Of course not completly the same, but very close. It is lighter than EDP and lacks that bitter harsh note that i personally hate in a opening of EDP. EDT is just like the drydown of EDP. Plum (slightly sweet plum in here, thanks to peach), a hint of tobacco (i guess this is a resin smell actually) and Vanilla. Simple but lovely. Normal sillage and lasting power. If i would choose between EDP and EDT, then i would choose this one personally since it reminds me of original one very much. Even better and more "nowdays". Perfect for warm period without being too heavy and heady.

I have no idea what the original was, and I have never tried edp 2011 version, so no comparison here, but I love what I smell. Something between plum jam and plum chutney, lots of plum with amber, resin and, after a while, quite some sandalwood. Lovely, round and warm but can be too sweet if overapplied. Both longevity and sillage are good.

To me this version of Venezia is sharper, punchier, fruitier than the original. Compared to that it's missing the soft, velvety, more vanillic sweetness and all the soft spiciness. The sandalwood in this one almost seems irrelevant, the top notes dominate this fragrance: Plum, black currant and peach, although the peach is much quieter than the other two. The original Venezia had a quality reminiscent of Samsara: the creamy, headier notes, the powder that floated through the air, travelled on a breeze, taking you on a romantic adventure. This version does nothing of the sort. It stays close to your skin, plays a few cute tricks, but nothing too impressive. To be fair, it has been a few years, so time may also have done something to this fragrance, albeit the color hasn't changed and the liquid looks clear as mountain water. I suppose, someone who didn't know the original scent might like this, although my verdict still stands that these fruits wanna punch you in the face. I find them quite synthetic smelling, too.
