Ambre Muscadin

Oh wow this is something. The first blast is sweet honey and amber, as soon as I start to think that this is very sweet, this animalic, rough note hits in making this EXTREMELY skanky and I must say even "urine" like, but hang in there, it is delightful for my nose. It does remind me a bit of animalic edge of one of my favorite skanks - Chamarre by Mona di Orio. The thing what amuses me most is the play between the sweet and warm amber part and the skanky musk part. Worth many tries, believe me, a unique and high quality gem that should be tried by every "skanky perfume" lover. You will not be dissapointed.

The wolf in sheep's clothing; sweet humming of amber- vanilla, soft touch of ladylike violet powder and underneath it all - musky benzoin seamlessly combined with previously mentioned notes smelling almost exactly as suede - soft, pliable, creamy, incredibly sexy, yet very sophisticated. Cedar and vetiver provide a certain freshness in what would otherwise be a very saturated oriental composition. Sheer perfection, I am enchanted.

Goddess! Ambre Muscadin opens with a blast of dusty amber, honey, and vanilla and develops into irresistible skanky & rough animalic musk supported by benzoin. The cedar and vetiver act as if they help the musk especially to get even more animalic at the end. The whole development has a dirty powdery sweet texture which I am looking for in every single fragrance, since I have discovered this beauty. Just heavenly!

A great resemblance of amber. The combination with benzoin and vanilla made it a perfect. A must for amber lovers, a bit feminine though. Even though I stopped using it after receiving a couple of comments that I'm wearing something similar to Baby Johnson oil (hated them for that :-) ), I still don't regret buying it, couple of sprays on the wrist from time to time calm me down.

A gem of a fragrance for admirers of niche animalic ambers. The heavy, glossy, formal black bottle contains a beast that’s a furry amber/vanilla (the bottle featured here is the old style, this is now a taller, rectangular black bottle). It’s a dry amber that’s combined with indulgent honey, warm benzoin and smooth vanilla to make it golden and rich. But it’s the added animal growl which gives this a shanky animalic musk which will either attract or deter you. I love its rich but dry allure on my skin and don’t mind its beastliness. I do get the Johnson’s & Johnson’s baby oil connection, which gives a slight retro quality, but I like it. I also get the “sexy flan” reference as it’s like golden crème caramel against my skin, which is never not too sweet nor gourmand. It’s a rich, sexy beast of an amber fragrance and if you get a chance to experience it, grab it by its hairy heckles.

On my skin and to my nose subjectively, the opening is overwhelmingly powdery and aggressive. Soon after that I get a Shalimar / Opus 1144 type amber mix, but less citrusy. For me the real magic is in the drydown: honeyed vanilla and musk, very close to Musc Ravageur but with a less dried-saliva-on-skin effect. Worth the 1h wait. In my opinion this is a misunderstood perfume of high quality and craftsmanship, one that many seem to judge solely on the first few minutes. Highly recommended for anyone looking to challenge themselves before ending up with a very enjoyable, pleasing and long lasting drydown.

If PlayDohTM and Shalimar had a baby, it would encapsulate everything in the opening of Ambre Muscadin. I’m not as repulsed by this as others, in fact I thought there’s something here that’s intriguing. There’s also a little bit of a sweet animalic scent in the opening, like a sweat soaked body smell. Anyway this is an unusual direction, for what looks like on paper, something I would like. Dry down is not nearly as interesting—a middle of the road Amber/vanilla combo. I’m needing to test a spray though, and I’m only experiencing Ambre Muscadin from a dauber.

the opening is not very pleasant to me, get the impression of a raw dusty perfume, some left over that is lingering from a broken bottle, spoilt due to exposure to humidity and temperature. however, once it melts and unites itself with the skin the drydown is a heavenly powdery amber, a bit similar to the drydown of the original Rumba by Balenciaga. very nice and inviting scrnt then, yummmm!!!!

Parfums de Marley kuhuyan if it was more gourmand. It smells milky, vanillic, edible, a touch leathery, violety and a bit fuzzy/ozonic. Guessing it has alot of ambroxan. Surprised nobody made the connection :/ The leather accord in this that is not listed smells Fahrenheitish.

Tar of CDG and Flower Kenzo got a baby - AM by LM. In the beginning 80% machinery or mix of all urban technical smells like railroad, asphalt, CO2 gases and 20% of violet powder. In an hour they change over. Interesting perfume experience.

If I was asked what sex smells like I'd answer "Ambre Muscadin".

It's interesting to see that people have compared this to Shalimar because it was the first perfume I thought of as well. This is like a stripped-down version of Shalimar. Take away the citrus top notes and amp it up with a bunch of benzoin and voila! At first I was less than thrilled. It smelled like scents I don't care for, namely a strong rubber-like black leather and coconut. However it mellowed out nicely (and quickly) into an amber/vanilla combo. Still with leather. I'm not getting any sort of animalic musk at all, nothing like Musc Ravageur or Muscs Kublai Khan. Sillage is not huge, but very comfortable and polite. The drydown is really nice, basically a dark amber perfume with hints of black leather and vanilla. I see it as having a bit of a gothic vibe. Again this is more of a black, smoky leather perfume than it is an animalic musc. This is why it's being compared to Shalimar. If you are looking for MUSK, look elsewhere. I love it because I just do...but it's not what I view as groundbreaking or anything to get overly excited about. I will hold onto the full bottle for at least the cooler months. Edit: One day I wore it, and it smelled so atrocious that I can never wear it again. I don't know if it was my chemistry that day or what! It smelled like slightly rotten smoked meat. Mixed with vanilla. It made me nauseous. It was tenacious and stuck to my skin after numerous attempts to scrub. Buh-bye, Ambre Muscadine :(

I recently received a sample of this one to try. Thanks Bob!! After spraying Ambre Muscadin on, my initial impression was baby oil with bourbon vanilla frosting. AM quickly settles into a rich creamy amber amber with a strong musk. Powdery amber, vanilla and musk appear in the dry down with a woody base off in the distance. 8 hours in I get a soft beautiful stink. Although listed as a Unisex fragrance, it leans more towards the feminine side IMO I can see the similarities to MR that others have mentioned, especially in the dry down, where the opening is much more like Shalimar on my skin. While I do consider this to be a very well made fragrance, it doesn't knock my socks off and is a bit to feminine for me to add a bottle to my collection. Bottom line: If you like Amber / Musk scents, you should try a sample of this.

برخلاف نت ها و فضاهایی که برای عطر معرفی شده،من مقدار زیاد ای ادویه و فضای کُهنه از این عطر می‌گیرم از شروع که بسیار این وجه ادویه ای قدرتمنده تا انتها که همچنان اثر اش توی عطر هست رگه های ترش و لیمویی و البته خشک هم در اوایل به مشام‌ام می‌رسید فضاهای چرک و کهنه و خاک گرفته از مشک و آکورد آمبری که اون هم برای من حس کهنگی داشت وانیل نه چندان شیرین و البته خفه رگه های انیمالیک در قلب عطر و از همه بدتر،وجوه پودری که اون هم کهنه و مُشکیه و روی مخ پایان بندی عطر از تمام قسمت هاش بهتره می‌رسیم به یک فضای نسبتا شیرین که همچنان ادویه ها هستند اما این ها در یک قالب رزینی_آمبری به نمایش درمیان در کل خوشم نیمد _تست شده از شیشه‌ی قدیمی_ ******************* Scent:4.5/10 Longevity:8.5/10 Sillage:8/10 Purchase value:1/10 ********** Overall:5.4/10

This smells very strong at first, not pleasant. It smells just like baby oil or baby powder. It reminds me of my grandmother's bathroom. I was waiting to see how the scent developed, that maybe it would change and the amber would come out...but I am not getting any amber or vanilla or benzoin. Nothing that warm or heavy at all. Its all white fluffy baby powder. I could see this being a comforting scent to some people, its very familiar smelling, but just not how I want to smell. Smells like a mother that loves hand sanitizer.

Powerful and weird opening - love it. Or would love it, if it didn't dry down to an old school amber vanilla combo with something off-putting there, perhaps it's the honey and remnants of the top notes clashing. Too bad, I will need to sample more from this brand

Quelle horreur! Who wears this voluntarily? I winced after spraying it and not in a good way. I'm guessing it's because it's animalic and powdery as I had the same reaction to Black Prestigium by Mancera. The top notes are strong and smell like an old apartment with no ventilation mixed with bar soap. The vanilla and honey can be smelled after a while but does not elevate the scent. It does not gradually develop into something nicer. Horrible. Just horrible.

Blind bought this cutie from ebay. It was in the older bottle design and the seller wasn’t asking much so I snagged it. Initial blast is Johnson’s baby wipes with some cedar on top. The cedar doesn’t last too long and what you get is mostly expensive smelling version of baby wipes. The dry-down is lovely as you catch wafts of it. Has similar animalic vanilla vibe that you get from Musc Ravageur’s basenotes. I’m not disappointed in this blind buy but I don’t think it’s worth the very high price tag that they ask for in retail. A solid like for me. 7/10. EDIT: I have since wore it several times after writing this review, and I have to say: this is actually becoming one of my favorite scents to wear. I think I might’ve overstated the similarity this perfume has with baby wipes. It definitely does smell like baby wipes but but this smells better. It has the “sexy flan” (term used by kafkaesque blog) mixed into the composition but doesn’t cross into gourmand territory. This is a good thing because gourmands can get nauseating to me if I keep smelling it throughout the day. This doesn’t smell skanky to me. The musk in this is more fuzzy than it is animalic.

Rumours say that Ambre Muscadin and the rest of this line are the result of a collaboration bewteen Mona Di Orio (RIP) and candle company LM Parfums. I can't actually confirm this news but whoever composed this fragrance, have done a pretty nice job. AM opens with an accord of vanilla and honey immediately joined by a remarkable animalic musky presence that serves as a necessary balance to the initial sweet blast. In this phase the fragrance has a strong retro feel which brings to mind of classic Guerlains such as Shalimar or even Jicky (minus the lavender). It' s powdery, very french perfumery, old school yet incredibly reassuring and comfortable in its overall familiar vibe. A woody vetiver base joins the party supported by slight resinous undertones providing an unisex aspect. Overall Ambre Muscadin has a strong deja vu aspect throughout but it definitely smells good. More a vanilla than a proper amber but, If you're into classic powdery animalic fragrances a-là Bal A Versailles, Shalimar, Habanita, Jicky and the likes, give this a chance. Musc Ravageur fans shoud take note as well... Rating: 7/10
