Eau des Mâtines

I like this quite a lot, as a male I will says this is very unisex and I can wear this very easily without it coming of as to feminine, it has this very noticeable fig note that feels unique, in the spring and summertime this shines, since this is soft to moderate projection you can spray very liberally without it being overbearing or cloning. And for the price here and size of the bottle you can’t go wrong.

It's such a shame Le Couvent changed their line-up; I haven't tried their new scents yet, but no matter how good they might be, they're definitely a lot more expensive and a lot less artisanal-looking. Even if that artisanal quality was (obviously) just marketing, it was very effective because the big charm of this line is how simple and nice and kind of oldfashioned these scents are; they make it easy to dream about a simple life spent in a medieval convent, gathering natural ingredients to make colognes... And the fact that the price matched that simplicity was just the cherry on top; best price/quality ratio on the market! Too bad it seems the market disagreed, because otherwise the changes wouldn't have been made... Now that's off my chest, my impressions of Eau des Matines: like the other scents in this line, it's a straightforward, natural-smelling light cologne, delightful in its simplicity. It's above all a herbal scent to my nose, softened by a fruity base. I can't distinguish any specific notes, but again it makes it very easy to close my eyes and imagine myself in the quiet fragrant garden of a monastery in the south of France. Perfect for summer, and very much unisex, with the expected modest longevity and projection of a cologne. So another scent from Le Couvent whose discontinuation I can add to my list of perfume regrets! I'm so glad I have my set of 30 mls, which I'll treasure for a long time...
