Hattai

This is an incredible gourmand if you're looking for something more serious, dark and mature, compared to the more sugary sweet ones. I would say this perfume is perfectly unisex. Though if you prefer more feminine perfumes, this one wouldn't be it, as it appeals much more to the dark feminine. I was skeptical trying it at first since a lot of people compared it to beer and bread, yet it made me curious at the same time and I'm glad I ended up getting it. I understand what people mean when they say they get beer and bread from it, but that's not really what I associate it with, and certainly not in a bad way. It reminds me of a bakery that doesn't make light and overly sugared pastries and cakes, like cupcakes or creamy things. Instead it reminds me of a dark, slightly burnt cinnamon roll that doesn't have a lot of sugar sprinkled on it, only a little. A hint of sourdough bread, but I love that.

If anyone knows where I can buy this in the U.S. PLEASE let me know, or a site that ships to the U.S. We stopped in a Douglas store while we were in Bologna on our Italy trip and I bought a bottle of this and wore it the remainder of our time in Italy and it’s amazing, sweet, woody & spicy. It’s very special to us now because every time I spray this, it brings us both back to Bologna, Milan and Tuscany and the amazing time we had there and all the beauty we experienced. To us, this is Italy in a bottle. My bottle is almost gone and we won’t be getting back there for another year or two so I was really hoping I could find a way to purchase another bottle soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I bought a split in a perfume group and it turned out to be love at first sniff. Bought a full bottle and its now one of my top-5. I find it quite unique with some cool "icy" vibe. Probably the peppar. My partner, though, think it smells like cinnammon buns. I think its a wonderful gem for a very reasonable price. Its easy to like, uplifting and I feel it leans more female. More suitable for the coulder months, probably. But looking forward to try in the summer.

It's very gourmand to my nose. For me Hattai is a mix of pulla (cardamom buns) and kanelbulle (cinnamon buns), quite sweet and spicy. And it has a very interesting woodiness in the background, that's even a bit animalic, but this might just be the story behind the fragrance influencing me too much ;) It's minimalistic, like the rest of the collection. I think it would suit someone who likes simple, but good quality products. I love it.

Beautiful and delicious scent!! Whenever I wear this and a small amount of it gets on my jacket, the scent stays there for weeks. It's so nice! I almost get a bit burnt sugar vibe from this? I get why people think this is a masculine scent but this is an intensly warm, round and sweet scent so it doesn't have traditionally masculine or sharp notes which makes it totally unisex.

This is heavenly! Can’t stop smelling myself while wearing this )) definitely try before buying, it’s true- bread/beer/yeast note is definitely present, unique and beautiful to my taste! Perfect gourmand. Love ❤️

There's no red pepper in this. I just read the description on the back of a bottle, and it's red berries, amberwood and cocoa.

Sweet baked pie to my nose, smells wonderful. Of course it fits better in autumn, more intense in the breezy days.

The notes listed here need to be corrected. The notes -taken from Le Couvent's website- are: Top note : Red berries Heart note : Cacao Base note : Cinnamon & Cade Wood In the Box, however, the notes are listed as: French: Baies Rouges & Boise Ambré English: Red peppercorn and Amber wood VERY confusing!!. Baies Rouges is 'red berries' but don't get confused with the edible yummy red berries you are picturing in your mind, nope!, the ones used in this fragrance are red-pepper-berries... on top of this misleading translation, Amberwood is listed on their website with the subtitle: 'essence of cade'. Hmm... Red-pepper-berries burst with the first spritz, not the best opening for me. As the berries settle, I notice the (bitter) cacao ...still overshadowed by the berries. Then the cacao holds hands with cinnamon and cade wood creating a lovely trio. This is not the type of fragrance I would normally go for or the scent I identify with, but I wanted to experience something different, it was a blind purchase I don't regret. 15% concentration Longevity is 5/10 Sillage is 4/10 Totally unisex.

Hattai isn't your typical gourmand with it's smokey woody base. It's quite grown up and sofisticated even though it does indeed smell of chocolate. Spicy chocolate, because it opens with a hefty dose of cinnamon (?). It's sweet, but not sugary. Hattai is pretty dark, dense and heavy, so it's a perfect cozy winter fragrance. Hard to describe as I can't paint a pretty picture to do so, but to me it's like a TON of spicy cocoa powder on a sweet, sappy, resinous, smokey wood-log that was burned yesterday. I totally get the cinnamon-bun connection, but it would have to be quite an unedible treat to smell this smokey 😅 Chocolate beer is weirdly enough not unaccurate either, I actually think that describe this scent better than cinnamon buns. Anyway, I love it. Hattai is gorgeous! Performance is very good too. Another gem from Le Couvent! 👏 Update: as much as I love this I have to accept that the amberwood is too much for me. There's a sharp edge to it, every time it ends up a little nauseating. It is very strong and longlasting. This is something I would love to smell on others though!

No, this does not have the "amberwood" aromachemical! The notes on Le Couvent's websites are: Top: Red berries (ie. peppers as so often?) Heart: Cacao Base: Cinnamon & Bois de Cade, which I believe translates to Juniperus oxycedrus aka. Cade Juniper or Prickly Juniper. It grows in the Mediterranean, and Wikipedia tells us: "Cade oil is the essential oil obtained through destructive distillation of the wood of this shrub. It is a dark, aromatic oil with a strong smoky smell which is used in some cosmetics and (traditional) skin treatment drugs, as well as incense." Dark, aromatic, smoky - that sounds like Hattaï. It smells of spicy cocoa too and leans almost gourmand, but it's not that sweet - it's more mysterious and forest-y than that. Hattaï is pretty unique, natural and very good.

Sweet and spicy gourmand, a little lactonic. I own this one and really love wearing it in the late fall/winter period. Lasts long and has a good projection (not to overpowering), gets compliments. Only downside is I would say it's a little too sweet for my taste but I still reach for it when I'm in the mood for something cosy and deep. I don't know why no one isn't pointing out that it smells like a Chai latte?? Because to me and all the other people I've made smell this, all we can say is how it smells like a chai latte! Anyway.. I'm a big fan of Le Couvent, I think a lot of their scents are well executed... Fenwick used to carry them in Bond Street, but since they closed down, I'm not sure where else you can go to sample them in person in London.

This should have been in one of the Black bottles! It is a dark scent imo. I loved it on paper. On my skin it was a bit overwhelming the first couple of hours though, on the brink of sickening. The sillage was huge! Just one spray on my hand for testing and I was walking around in a mild cloud of it. I tested fort royale on my other hand, much lower sillage on that one. Dry down is to die for!! *Swoon* I'll have to get a bottle and I just pray that the first two hours of wearing wont get the best of me I am finding plenty of scents from this brand that I want, so very impressed with Couvent des Minimes!

Hattai is a delectable warm spicy gourmand. It has a very warm feeling from the amberwood, a powdery touch from cacao pod and spiciness from red pepper. It’s not an overly complicated scent but it is dense enough to make its presences known and for a fragrance built around 3 notes it is really nice! Red pepper is what makes Hattai feel different for me from other cacao and amberwood scents. I think Hattai is perfectly suited for fall weather! Cozy and enveloping, it will keep you warm in the cooler temperatures! I like it but not enough to want a bottle. Moderate performance.

The Jungle comparison is apt, if for nothing other than performance--a couple of swipes on my wrist from a sample vial and I think I choked out everyone at the post office. I can't imagine what a full spray would have done, much less multiple sprays. It does smell really good--like a spicy chocolate cake--but just be conscientious of other people: I can see this one being nauseating to people who are sensitive to smells.

The opening reminds me of Kenzo's Elephant & the drydown is abit like Vanille Absolu by Montale. This is a warm & cozy, bready, boozy AND spicy perfume. Unusual amber scent for autumn/winter! Il se rapproche beaucoup de Sugar leather Une nuit Nomade Les notes sont difficile à deviner ,c'est la preuve que le parfum est réussi, l'odeur est merveilleuse et les performances sont très bonne . This smells like chocolate beer. Very bizarre scent. It has very faint whiffs of BR540 and Instant Crush , the very top of the sweet spicy part. Definitely not a clone but the similarities are there. This juice projects like a beast, one spray and it’s everywhere. Despite the oddness, it has allure that I like.

have had the bottle for a while but just got around to using it. for me it is in the spicy oriental style. pleasantly so. elena's fingerprints are here. whatever sharpness in the opening quickly moves to a warm scented scarf of a cold day.delicious and comforting. ambery hot chocolate.

Blind bought this as I was looking for a sweet, spicy and warm gourmand scent for winter. And this one was really spot on but what makes me shy away from using it is the smoky note that makes it too masculine for me. Would have loved a more feminine version of this.

Very modern Beautiful same time sexy fragrance It reminds me When I was on a trip to Havana Cuba smell just like a pink mojito and warm cinnamon cake this fragrance is very beautiful I loveeeeee it.

It smells like beer among other things. I bought it because in the store I really liked the sweetness but once I (F) wore it it turned out to be quite masculine and I could detect a whiff of a beer scent from it. Not something I like on myself so I gave it to my boyfriend and I actually really like it on him. It's quite intoxicating, rich and interesting gourmand and that beer note doesn't stand out to me. He says he gets a lot of compliments for the perfume.

Confirmation that I don't like Cacao in perfumery (too dry and powdery feeling in the nose) and discovery that I can't stand cade oil either! Smells like Lush's Soak and Float shampoo ! 😖 Useful details : english is not my mother tongue and my opinions are copied and pasted from my personal notes, written on the fly after several phases of testing (tracking changes for several hours on blotters, then on my skin for a day).

This one is a fragrance for..men. I gave it out to my bf and on him it smells heavenly. He has been using before some heavy horrible men ́s toilet waters, which were making me to suffocate. Hattai saved my nose and it is a good compromise! On myself I was tasting that fragrance before..I felt that dark dark amber and pepper and..sweetness but not a feminine one..that was not me.

Hattai manages to occupy the uncomfortable space between sweetness, and burnt smokiness. This dry, abstract perfume rapidly expands with thick tendrils of rising steam, and fills the room until you are thoroughly overstimulated. What feels like a promising gourmand soon reveals misdirection, with the sweetness never quite resolving into comfort. It evokes an uncomfortable memory: a tightly packed cafe with far too many bodies inside. Steam hisses, baristas clang and shout, and the heat becomes cloying enough to suffocate your appetite. This steam-warmed bitterness leaves little room to breathe, like caramelised sugar taken just past its point. Over time, the density starts to grate. The end result is overstimulating, even borderline obnoxious. Jean-Claude Ellena has shown remarkable ingenuity elsewhere, but I find myself being shouted at by this perfume, rather than spoken to.

This transports me to being a child in an old hospital, either getting stitches or visiting an elderly relative. A very specific type of antiseptic smell prevalent in Irish hospitals in the 90s which I don't seem to smell anymore in hospitals today. Needless to say, I don't want to smell like this.

I do not see the resemblance to BR540. I had high hopes with this fragrance but I am disappointed. I love Baccarat and I love chocolate. This one smells like a weird sour chocolate.

Definetly not for me, I had to gift this away. Reminds me of very strong perfumes that some ealderly Spanish ladys wear on summer time and sun cream😅 Maybe it is just me...

Don't buy blind like me... It sent the bread but not the good way for me. Stale, damp bread, a sort of bad breath, the smell of empty beer on the table. (Yeast) I thought it was a bad batch but now I get it. I really appreciate JC Ellena's creations and yet I hate Hattaï. So beware of blind buying. I did not smell cocoa, chocolate or vanilla but just this smell that puts me off.

I'm a big fan of Le Couvent, and I wanted to love Hattai. The bottle with the depiction of a wolf is gorgeous! The scent is somehow dense, lactonic and boozy, and in the opening, there is definitely a note that makes me think of wild animals, like a wolf :) There is something in this that reminds me slightly of another frag by Le Couvent, which I love, Fort Royal. However, while Fort Royal is balanced and multi faceted and brings a sense of calmness, to my nose, Hattai is really loud and one dimensional. And it leans traditionally masculine, like something I've smelled on my uncles or friends of my father through the years. My man doesn't want to wear it, he says it might be something for other generations, without being more specific. When it calms down, I like it better. That's when it reminds me of Fort Royal, an ambery, spicy and warm scent. I like the dry-down better than the opening. But one have to be careful with this, it's a beast - a wolf, actually :) Can be overpowering and lasts forever. Fills a room. Can be headache-inducing if not careful. Great performance (what did they put in this to make it so potent???) I can't really make up my mind about this yet. Before writing this comment, I was thinking of gifting it, but now when I smell it, it has a certain mysterious charm.

تست امشب آته از برند لوو کوْو . فکر میکنید همکاریه برند لوو کوو که ادعای نچرال پرفیومری داره با پرفیومری که همیشه با عطرهای شفاف و شبهه نچرال میشناسیم چه عطری رو رقم زده ؟ ژان کلود النا اینبار عطری رو فرمول کرده که خیلی با سبک و سیاق آشنای خودش همخونی نداره . آته با فضای بسیار سنگین از حس شیرین و رزینی معطر و حس اسپایسی کارشو استارت میزنه ی ترکیبی از بوی کنزو جانگل زنونه + باکارات روژ . ولی بوی کنزو مانند بعد از چند دقیقه کنار می‌ره و بوی رزینی و فلفلی و تقریبا شیرین که با بوی پوست پرتقال همراهه منو خیلی بیاد عطر الگزیر د مغوی هرمس میندازه . الگزیری که اینجا حس شیرین داره . تو قلب رایحه همچنان بوی تند فلفلی حس جذاب و نابی رو ایفا می‌کنه که یواش یواش بوی رزینی محو میشه و عطر از اون حالت جالب و یونیک می‌ره به سمت فضای گورماند سبک و سیاق حس گورماند شکلاتی و شیرینه .بوی کاکائو نیست بیشتر بوی کرم وانیلی فندقی وسط ویفر شکلاتی رو برام تداعی می‌کنه . که بازم اینجا بیاد عطر چاکلیت گریدی از مونتل میوفتم . کلییات عطر خیلی با کیفیته . حس شیرین و گورماند تماما احساس میشه تلفیقی از چند عطر محبوبه بنظرم که جالبه موندگاریش روی پوست من از 4-5 ساعت تجاوز نکرد و پخش بوش در دو ساعت اول خیلی خوبه بعدش ملایم میشه . اگه از روایح گورماند و اسپایسی معطر لذت میبرید این عطر خیلی جالبی می‌تونه براتون باشه

This is heavenly--a lovely warm rich resinous amber with a bit of cacao and pepper. The pepper note is not sharp/acrid like black pepper rather it is more like chili pepper. Here you smell the pepper's heat rather than taste if that makes any sense. It is subtle sitting just at the edge of this fragrance. I was wary of the cacao note as I was not sure I would like it in perfume. I was concerned it would be bit too gourmand or too sweet for my taste but here it is a dry dark cocao powder scent that is divine. It is rich and blends completely with in the resinous amber giving it depth, weight and richness. Overall this fragrance reminds me of a fancy chili flavored dark chocolate. Divine! FB worthy--picked up a 100mL for a steal at fragrancenet!

Wood, tobacco vanillaesque spice (cinnamon? Clove? Says red pepper, which yeah, i get a stab of that at the beginning; hot spicy red pepper, but it fades off into something more like soft clove). Warm soft elements but I’m not getting the gourmand comfort scent others are. In the middle, it’s more stark wood with, darnit, a hint of scream. Why did my beloved Ellena have to use Screamwood like everybody else? I hate that chemical. On full dry down, however, it’s in abeyance and I get more of a soft woody vanilla with nice tart spice edges. Really like the dry down but it’s pretty close to my cheap Smoked Vanilla oil, with a swizzle of powdery opoponax vanilla. Nice overall, except for that wood alcohol scream in the middle stages.

My local Douglas just started to have these fragrances and when I heard that Jean Claude Ellena was the olfactive director for this brand, I knew I had to try. This must be one of the most unique fragrances in my collection. Although I just started my journey into niche fragrances and I don't own that many, I feel this could be on the same level with more expensive frags. I can't really tell what the notes are, for me is just a perfect melange where every note is perfectly balanced with the others, in order to create a complex composition. I think more people should try this, it has great silage and longevity. I'm looking forward to buying more fragrances from this brand

Oh my! I am really surprised by this gem! The bottle is simple, but nice looking. The price is ok. Ambery, without the obvious patchouli/ vanilla scent. It's sweet but not candy like. Very cozy, luxurious vibe and attractive. Definitely both gender friendly. The projection is good but barely there after an hour. I spray it over and over. It might be a love at first smell!

Couvent made the things complicated because red pepper is usually poivre rose (« pink pepper « ). Red berries in french being fruits like red currants or cranberries. But from the brand: « RED BERRIES RED PEPPER ESSENCE The Essence of Red Pepper is obtained by steam distillation of its berries, resulting in a warm, spicy fragrance with a slight herbaceous note.«

Whiskey , boozy opening like amoauge xxv and after a while it gets similar to Hdp -1740 but without the smokiness. The hdp1740 is more complex and potent. This has a nice silage and longevity too . But it is not a beast performance.

Wood, cinnamon combined with bitter cacao, with a hint of sour berries. Well. I’ll come back here! Very beautiful with moderate projection but longevity is huge. Definitely a big character.

Warm sweet amber. Feel good perfume. Doesn’t last very long on me maybe a 3-4 hours. Wish it did.
