Porto Bello

I don't smoke but I can imagine, if I did, if I were a smoker, and had been on a very long flight, like 16 hours, and you finally get off the plane, and you crave smoke like breathing, the first inhale you take is divine, it feels like you are finally breathing after 16 hours of holding your breath. And breathing in while inhaling your favourite cigarette you feel alive... That's how I feel about PortoBello. If I had a perfume addiction, this is the fragrance I would crave. Today I had a basic, normal day, not a lot of stress, but somehow I was worried, and I couldn't breathe. I did yoga, I went for a walk, I met friends for dinner...and still I felt like I coudln't breath. Before bed, I sprayed 3 times, Portobello on my wrists, and in my hair. It immediately felt like I had lit a joint and got high on the intensity of these incense/resin/orange/whiskey... I can't describe it, but nothing makes me more relaxed than this smell. It's very hot today and I had been wearing light florals all day (Aqua Sacrae, tuberose and jasmin, Saiga also...). It was too shy, my CNS central nervous system needed more. I love wearing Portobello in summer, when the intensity of Italian 35degrees make it explode like a bomb. I adore this perfume. thank you JCE.

You have to understand, how to smell this ;D. It starts littlebit masculine, but when there is question about womans skin, it isnt masculine - it blends so nicely, and turns into smooth, velvety and there is a touch of eastern vibe, maybe frankinsence with benzoin - and it is like those storyes: witch your neightbour friends mother use to read to us, from those heavy childrensbook.- Someone knows the name of book, where was allways some magic with the story. Somehow, even I am really demanding with my perfumes, -this perfume is one of those perfumes, which will get more charismatic, and more complex, when it goes older - trust me, this is littlebit like "Sean Connery" in the perfumes. This really has, the sexappeal, - you can try it, and then, come back, and tell to us, was I wright ;) - I believe so :P

This perfume smells so sensual and tasty to me. My skin chemistry though is known to destroy perfumes and make them sweeter and musky so maybe that's why. But I ADORE this perfume, it smells high quality and is like a sweet, incensed smoky orange on top of some wood. I could wear this on a night *and* day but it leans more towards an evening scent! I'd prefer this for colder weather/seasons. I'm tempted to call this one a signature scent for me because I love it that much and the samples don't cost too much so I recommend you give it a try before buying a full bottle! When I first sprayed this on my wrist for the first time, it did also smell quite masculine on me by dried into something sweeter. After a few more sprays on different days, I was sold, so give this perfume time to shine!

Now owning both Jazz Club and Porto Bello i was able to compare them a lot better. Porto Bello to me smells like an Orange pipe tobacco. Smelling it from the bag. Whereas Jazz Club seems to create a similar scent profile but coming from more places making it less easy to pick out all the notes. Porto bello to me can be worn almost everyday, all the time. And Jazz Club is more for fall and winter and more evening then day. I honestly love them both but i do like Porto bello for being something different that i can wear to work. There are a lot of seductive evening scents. I also believe Porto Bello performs slightly better.

Found it very off putting in store because of the green, almost menthol or eucalyptus-like note, but after maybe 10-20 minutes it had turned into this lovely sweet amber scent on my skin. On me the herbaceous and green notes disappear almost entirely, and I haven’t picked up on it at all since that first spray in store. Definitely don’t think it pulls masculine, at least not on me. I get tons of compliments and my mum even bought a bottle because she liked it so much on me. If you, like myself, tend to bring out the sweet notes in perfumes this is a must buy for autumn (but i wear it year round)!!

As of now, this is my second favourite from the house. Behind Fort Royal but this is more versatile so it gets points for that. A woody fragrance making you think of pipe tobacco with orange. Which is basically all i can think of when i smell this. But it's a different scent good for the office on all seasons except maybe summer. I love this house a lot and has quickly become one of my favourites. Especially because i find most of them for great prices. For niche scents that are this wearable, insane.

This was an instant love for me. Tobacco (not listed), benzoin and then som olibanum. I do not get oranges or citrus, but itis probably there. The tobacco is lovely and does not take over, which it normaly does in most tobacco-perfumes I have tested. This part is gone after 2-3 hours, by then mostly olibanum and vanilla remains as a nice skin scent for 2-3 more hours. Great scent, I just wanted it to last a few hours more.

Literally one of my favourite perfumes ever. I’m sitting here sniffing the empty bottle writing this review. Definitely will buy it again. I prefer wearing it as a skin scent, is nice to layer if you have something simpler on top, but it can definitely pull weight on its own. The type of scent I just want to sleep sniffing

A smoky blend of incense and sweet orange. That's how I feel it and I absolutely adore this combination. Not much else to say, really. If you like those two you'll definitely want this. It has much more to it, of course, but those two give the biggest impression for me.

This is a nice surprise. I liked it from the first sniff: warm, rich, sweet, and sort of smoky vanilla. For me there are two stories in this fragrance, two main notes that are distinct, yet they combine very harmoniously. If you ever have the chance then give it a try.

Great from start to basenotes. It is rather linear and smells natural and good quality. Couvent des Minimes is becoming one of my favorite creator. I bought other perfumes from their mine. Great surprise and great perfumes for men or women.

This is beautiful and seductive. On my skin it smells like Jazz Club layered with Naxos, not overly masculine but perfectly unisex. It gives mysterious and happy bright vibes at the same time. Totally underrated hidden gem.

A pleasant surprise for me. Quality is good. Longevity is above average. There are no tobacco mentioned in the notes but I can definitely smell it. This reminds me of Dior Tobacolor. Definitely masculine in my opinion.

Wow, this is nice. Unisex, but more feminine I think. A powerfull fragrance, not good for dates, but for business meetings. Very interesting. Works better over a sweet body cream.

I really love its unique, complex scent. Somehow, it makes people notice it and ask what I’m wearing. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have much sillage and doesn’t last long on my skin.

You get a sleek beautiful bottle with a sweet orange, elegant, slightly boozy scent, My recommendation is to get this and gatekeep it and it does last and smell good 👍

Delicious, almost magical scent. The notes of citrus and petit grain are clear, warm and blessing. One of my favorite low price perfumes. Sillage could be longer

For women, like me, this smell is very strong green sweet and it fits into my sweat smell because it keeps me awake all the time. Absolutely 10/10

Absolute banger for nights no matter the season. 50$ for a 50ml niche-fragrance is mental. Longegivity: 8+ hours Smell: 9/10

Today I walked into a local perfume chain-store here in France and was confronted with this brand for the first time. I was seduced by the superb presentation. As I was in a rush I tried just one fragrance Porto Bello drew my gaze due to the famous Portobello road (and market) in my hometown of London. Well, I'm eager to try the other scents of this brand as this one is right up my 'street'! It really is a lovely balsamic fragrance, I get a similar thing to the previous reviewer, a kind of smoky vanilla, there's an interesting creamy thing going on. I was kind of hoping it would go more in the (much more spicy and dark) direction of CK Obsessed Intense for men (incredibly hard to find here) but it reminds more of something like Guerlain's 'l'Homme Idéal, that smooth kind of vibe (perhaps a slight cola accent) although don't expect any almond notes here. Edit; There's definitely an intriguing sweet orange note too, it's not zesty though. For me it was there at the start, takes a back seat for a while then comes back.

First spray on skin notes. ---------- One minute in: alcohol is taking its time subsiding. What I get leans 'cloying masculine'. 2-5 minutes in: getting better, something a little herbal + earthy coming through, enough that my brain could construe it as a tobacco note. 10 minutes, looking at notes: davana and olibanum make a lot of sense right now. There are herbal, bitter notes cutting through the cloy making it interesting, I like this development but it's not entirely pleasant. Some associations go towards furniture polish, mosquito repellant. 1 hour: I might be taking to it. But this experience really has to be consensual to enjoy. Definitely evokes "over-spraying male co-worker". Really REALLY surprised anyone can find this feminine. Also, agree with lukataskas below perfectly on everything. -------- Hours later: good longevity. I don't get orange/citrus as a discernible note at any point, but can kinda "see the effects of" sweet orange, if that makes any sense.

Porto Belo is a beautiful green, aromatic, moderate sweet citrusy scent with davana, petit grain and sweet orange. It has benzoin and frankincense to counterbalance the freshness of the herbs and citruses but is remaining throughout its life a forward citrusy, green scent. Davana and petit grain have such a strong presence here and are the notes shining the most in Porto Bello in my opinion. Props to Jean Claude Ellena for taking a slightly different route than 80% of the perfumers who create citrusy centred scents and for creating finally a strong fragrance! His citrusy, fresh, floral, herbal or green creations for other houses smell amazing and realistic but some really lack in the performance.. Porto Bello is a flawless blend of warm and green notes, long lasting and strong and for the price, it’s a gem! But you need to like green or citrusy scents to like Porto Bello!

Le Couvent dubs this "Sweet orange & woody incense". Real notes from the website are: Top: Sweet orange (it's citrus sinensis, the common orange: 'sweet' as in, not bitter orange) Heart: Davana Base: Incense wood resin, Cognac Porto Bello is beautiful. It's a warm cozy boozy smoky resinous amber scent. Comparisons to Jazz Club are accurate, but I prefer this. Like Pasha Parfum with less booze and solvent smell - to me this seems softer and more rounded. I recommend trying this in the summer sun too. Unisex, not too sweet, not too strong.

This is a really nice find. Im suprised I dont see woody notes listed, I smell a huge dose of woods (cedarwood maybe) . The scent opens up smoky wood with a sweet citrus twist. Dries down to a woody scent with resinous, spiciness and a little sweetness. I wouldn't say this is a fresh scent for the warm weather, I would use it in the fall and maybe beginning of winter. Nice and unique smell I like it.

Warm & sophisticated, love how it keeps changing on my skin.. Aromatic orange with incense, herbaceous touch of davana.. Balsamic. Warmer weather daytime scent -- sweetish orange, green herbaceousness and vanilla/tonka.... a weaker version of Pure Azure by Phaedon. Doesn't last long. The green is the first to dissipate leaving behind mostly orange and vanilla. I don't get much Dhavana. There is a slight synthetic quality.

Beautiful. I don'usually wear unisex fragrances but I loved this one . The opening is all about orange and smoky vetiver . After it settles It becomes sweet on my skin, balsamic and ambery but you can always pick up the incense.

90% similar to Soleil de Jeddah, by Stephane Humbert Lucas. Porto Bello is slightly sweeter, and less challenging. SDJ has better longevity and projection, and smells more niche.

You obviously need to be careful about blind buying this one. I can't make up my mind about it for a month. I'd echo calling it a "warm cozy boozy smoky resinous scent". It also has something green and herbal about it, like some peculiar mixture of mint, wild carrot and eucalyptus, and this particular addition makes it probably a pass for me. So it is a cocktail of smoke, sweetness and green notes on my skin, absolutely interesting for a man but I don't feel it "feminine enough" for myself to wear. Speaking traditionally male/female scents, I'd say it is very sexy and mysterious for a man, not at all sexy for a woman. It is also quite linear on me, drydown doesn't change much in the overall experience. The performance and price are remarkable so definitely worth testing and buying if you happen to like it. It is also very wearable for a niche creation. Somehow Porto Bello and Fort Royale share the same minty-bitter-herbal vibe on my skin, which might be ultimately a show stopper for me and potentially for someone else reading this. All in all, check on your skin.

To me, this smells like an old-time wooden pharmacy where someone burnt some resinous incense a day or a few ago and hasn't aired the place since. It's sweet and a bit stuffy with an herbal note somewhere in the background, yet pleasant. Not my type of fragrance but I sure can see where its beauty comes from.

It's too masculine for me..very woody, somewhat dark and resinous, also not sweet enough. I only wear it when I'm in the mood for that. But if you enjoy the scent, it's really good on lasting power 10+hours ( i can still sniff it after I shower) and sillage.

On me it's very herbal and aromatic ..i only get a bit of amber and no citrus

Blind buy. For me it smells unpleasant, like black shoe polish paste Big no.

Wow reading the reviews for this perfume is a wild ride, it seems like everyone’s experience is so different! Personally I had no expectations going into this perfume, I bought it mainly because I used to live in a place called Portobello and found this bottle really cheap online. However I have been so, so pleasantly surprised. On my skin, this is a sweet (almost berry-like) fragrance with a background of woody, resiny warmth. It’s also got some green notes to it, and a tartness from the citrus. This is the perfect warm summer evening fragrance. It also has surprising sillage. Interestingly when I spray this on clothes it’s a LOT more wood-dominant. There’s more citrus, and I don’t get the berry-like note at all. I would say this is unisex, but on my skin it leans MUCH more feminine. I want to spray this on a few more people to see how it develops on other peoples’ skin - I imagine (given the differing experiences in the reviews) it’ll develop quite differently on different people. Overall this is my best blind buy yet. I love it, and wear it really often. Unsure how it’ll stand up to colder months but for now, in the summer months, this is perfect

Porto Bello is wood dominant scent, which opens as a smoky wood with fresher citrus, mainly orange, contrast. It later develops into solid and rounded wood scent with resinous, spicy and fresh, yet creamy accents. I mostly get frankincense and orange - both rind and pulp - on the cedar like woody base, however when inhaled deeply I also get sawdust vibes. When worn in minus degrees Celsius the orange deliciously mixes with vanillic benzoin, which I cannot detect in warmer weather at all. Definitely, it is worth to give it a try in cold temperatures for its almost gourmand potential. Long lasting, moderate sillage, widely appropriate, unisex (however leans masculine as I see this perfume easily worn by men throughout the year, but for women mostly as an autumn and winter perfume). Rather original for mass appealing (or inoffensive?) scent, not overly complicated, yet put together and graceful.

Sort of fresh, sort of woody, sort of spicy, a little bit citrusy... It feels like it's in between different characters without having a very clear direction. It's pleasant enough, but also kind of bland in my opinion. A bit soapy and generic. Definitely unoffensive, and not bad, just not very interesting.

Porto Bello to me has a sweet coconut vibe :) fortunately it has some smoke to it as well as a tart note that keeps it interesting, but nothing special as an overall offering. It has synthetic elements but not harsh and best to be worn in colder months, so temperatures can keep this frag in check.

I love orange and benjoin but I absolutely hate everything about this perfume. It somehow reminds me a lighter version of La nuit de l'homme, from YSL, which is popular. I don't like both. I find them too sweet and unoriginal. They also give me crazy headache. Nothing spectacular here.

I have bought this a week ago and i must say i am in love with it.Tried this in a perfume store and it was love at first sniff.It's such a unique fragrance a little citrusy,a little sweet and a little bitter but blended to perfection and it is very affordable for the juice you get.

This is smoky, sweet and easy to wear... beautifully blended, with the warmth of burnished wood and a hint of jungle. Like drinking rum on the veranda, watching the fireflies. Then your lover joins you, and you melt into strong arms with complete trust and comfort.

For me this is unfortunately borderline cloying. The citrus is really overshadowed by the sweetness. It smells a bit cheap, like VR Spice Bomb. I wanted to like this, but my olfactory senses is bothered by it. No resemblance to Soleil de Jeddah here in my opinion.

Nice, airy, orange with benzoin. I probably am allergic to something in it, I keep sneezing and my skin burns where I sprayed. Performance: 40-60 minutes, 3 hours a skin scent (most perfumes don't project well on my skin though). Full bottle? nope.

For sure it's smoke. See there the association with Jazz Club. But that is probably the insence raisin not tobacco as in Jazz Club. Although I don't wear it often enough to a proper review, for sure this is better than its price tag indicates.

I tried this one in the shop and I must say, like one of the reviewer here said, it does smell like Penhaligon's Halfeti that I actually own. So if you like Halfeti and want to have it for less than half the price then you should get this one.

Nice citrus amber. The citrus lasts just a few minutes and then the scent turns into a soft amber.
